I believe they must have had a reason to leave the gw1 system behind, we just can’t guess that reason because we have not enough insight into it.
but what we can do is inspire them to make the system in gw2 better.
They don’t have to do what we say them exactly but we may be able to inspire them.
That also means they don’t have to respond to this thread!
That said we don’t really have to stick to the complete gw1 formula, they are able to change it any way they wish. but the large advantage that system had is that it was a pretty social system with a more fun experience overall.
You can’t straight up copy the entire system over for gw2 it’s a different game so requires different ways of solving this feature but we can still be inspired by the gw1 system.
Also the reason the gw1 games ended faster as well was /resign.
Having that in place in gw2 would save me hours a day. because sometimes you just know it’s not going to work, 10-200 for example is a pretty dire situation.
Guys, if you compare GW2 Conquest to GW1 mechanic wise etc…
You should look on it like GvG since both have objectives, unlike Anihillation.
we are not comparing game mechanics we are finding a way to improve on the gw2 queue system.
(edited by Enektric.4527)
As much as I think the ideas in Gw1 were superior in every way, I don’t think we can port this one over unless it is with a different game mode. Matches in Random Arena probably averaged 2-3 minutes, more if it was a good fight, whereas in conquest it is probably 7-10 minutes. I don’t think many people can put up with the same consecutive matches system here with such long games.
We don’t really have to stick to 10 matches. 5 matches could be possible as well.
and If you’re out of time you just leave between matches that happened in Gw1 a lot as well.
We have a great Queue system in gw1 and I am wondering why we are not using that here as well.
The system:
- You solo queue for a match and you get a random map (in gw2 this can use the current voting system)
- You are placed with other random players just like it is now.
- After winning the match you will be requeued with your current team members.
- You get the same map selection system again and are pitted against 5 random
members that random queued or a team that has already won a match before.
- While being queued for the next match you can leave the queue and without penalty you will be replaced by another random.
- After each win your rewards are heightened.
- After 10 matches your team is placed in Team Queue and will always be going against full teams that queued directly in TeamQ
- There is a separate teamQ for full 5/5 party groups they will always be pitted against other full groups and will get the same ladder reward system (more wins = more rewards. or rating?)
The pro’s:
- Teams are being created within the system in a social way.
if your team wins 10 matches in a row by the 10th match you will start to know one another and this creates friendships that can lead to a team being born.
I have experienced this myself as a gw1 player and it created the most fun moments.
- You don’t always fight the same people
In the current practice mode it becomes a sport after 3-4 matches to hunt a specific player down. You may not be aware of it but it happens.
This creates hatred between those 2 players and ends in 1 of them leaving that match.
- Leaderboards can be made simpler then they are now, you get more rating the more Team fights you win in Team queue and let the random Queue be without any rating only with matchmaking.
- New players get a more pleasant experience in the new system than in the current practice mode.
They will Learn conquest or other game modes as they should be and won’t be thrown in a confusing deathmatch/conquest.
the cons:
- You might as a random queuer get pitted against 9 time winning teams and be granted a guaranteed loss.
this might be fixed by only letting winning teams be queued against other winning teams, I don’t know how long those queues will get but that’s something worth looking into.
- What about 2/5 ; 3/5 ; 4/5 party groups?
In the current system you can queue as those but I think it is an unfair advantage to that team.
In this System I would let them queue random but be pitted against winning teams and never full randoms.
It’s worth thinking about a better solution for this.
Do you know other Pro’s or con’s to this system?
Or have a creative Twist on it then please share them.
Be constructive!

I don’t really think that every class should have a “kryptonite” because that defeats the purpose of a skilled match for example there can be this very hard trained mesmer that is in the top 200 rating and then there comes a rank 1 necro along pressing 1-2-3-4-5 and defeats the mesmer without even thinking about it.
it’s like Tyrions Brother: Thump-Thump-Thump…
the mesmer should be able to counter that necro by playing better/smarter.
A balance that makes risk vs reward would be better for example if I use this huge cannon skill it would give myself a disatvantige putting me in a defensless position.
like all dodge-evade-invun skills could use up 1/4 of the endurance bar this way it can’t be spammed and your taking a risk using it at the wrong time.
Or a skill like Endure pain would lower your movement by 50% so you would be taking the risk of getting knocked offpoint and having problems getting back on.
Now it’s just a skill that gives the free slam time for pressing a button with no risk at all.
I am getting the feeling you guys want to take the “kryptonite” of a certain class more to the front and this scares me.
I know if I am playing mesmer that thief will be a hard target but I still try it because maybe I can outplay him.. but then you would just say dam a thief let’s get out of hes sight.
and because you guys made it so that you can now switch characters mid match (no slightest idea why you guys did that) it would be possible to completely counter the other team just because you switched to another class:D where is the competitive nature in that?
The problem with Pistol-Whip is that there is no risk and a TON of rewards.
jump in do a load of damage (evade in while your doing it) and dodge heal-dodge-dodge-switch shortbow- evade- evade – evade – dodge out
The possible solutions I see for this is:
- the most useful solution I see is making skills that evade/invul use initiative so it can’t be spammed in any way. this also creates a risk to attacking.
this fixes issues in dodging for a lot of annoying stuff. like rangers, s/d thiefs.
adding initiative usage to any skill creates a risk to use it and will make the player recuired to track their initiative more and not just spam everything in the hope to dodge/evade.
- remove the immobilize in the skill.
- make the charge up longer and a lot more visual.
- remove the critical haste on it so it doesn’t do 50k damage in 4seconds
the damage on it is fine if you do the above. standing in it while not CC’d is pretty stupid if the thief has no haste.
would be nice if you nerfed it without killing it. there is some nice tactical play to this build together with your team, like pulling them together as a mesmer and the jumping on them all with a pistol-whip.
It is because of the high population that your getting that issue.
I am guessing this has something to do with the memory or FPS, when you go below a certain FPS value or run out of memory it crashes.
I have 32gb ram but wine only uses like (I think) 1024mb of that, so it runs out of memory pretty fast:/.
What you can do to fix this is stay away from busy places like LA, Big world events, WvW zergs, etc
I tried putting everything on the lowest setting but that does not seem to work at all.
This issue has been in the game since the mac client launched.
I have also noticed that when I use my faster Westen Digital Thunderbold drive to run the game it seems to occur less frequent but it does tend to happen when 2 or more zergs meet each other in wvw or when I am in a busy spot in LA.
I guess we will just have to deal with it and be happy we don’t need to run windows.
I am having the same issue atm.
so I logged in today in heart of the mists after like 5 minutes of loading and I was greeted with this:…
not really sure what to make of it.
pic 1 first attempt
pic 2 second attempt
attempt 3 looked the same as pic 2
movement also doesn’t work camera turns weard and skips back
I was making some file transfers at the time but nothing big.
Imac late 2011 27"
3,4Ghz Intel Core I7
12GB 1333Mhz DDR3
AMD Radeon HD 6970M 1024 MB
After restarting the issue resolved itself, still an odd bug
I have a tip for everyone having key bind issues.
If you have the money for it go get a gamepad like this one http://www.belkin.com/images/product/F8GFPC200/STD1_F8GFPC200.jpg
what you might also like is a Razer Naga or Hex.
I do strongly suggest not putting any skill on the naga or hex that you use very often or in moving situations since your thump is steering your mouse for most people It will slow your movement and reaction time down if you have to use that finger for clicking all the time. ofc I assume your not a keyboard turner.
If you have 0 budget and you just wish for a quick fix then move your movement keys on your keyboard to the right, example:
on azerty, zqsd for moving becomes esdf
you will have an extra row of keys at your pink and ring finger while at the same time being able to reach further on the right side.
check out this video if my explanation confuses you(I know it’s a wow guide but the same applies here and it’s a good guide)
I would very much like to see a Bomb run mode:
1 railway towards the enemy team with lot’s of narrow parts and strategic opportunities around the track.
A cart with a big bomb on top is being pushed by the red team towards the blue teams castle, when the bomb reaches the castle in time it will explode if not the blue team wins.
there has to be at least 1 person pushing the bomb to keep it moving.
I understand that balancing this map is hard but a lot of fun stuff can be added along the track like big rockblocks coming down blocking the track or maybe something that pushes it back a part of the track, maybe some rail crossings where the cart can be redirected in a longer route by the enemy team. loads of ways to make this map.
yes this is inspired by TF2:D
Thanks for the update bill, I only have 1 question.
What about the Mac client?
I had crashes after the update every minute, so I removed the folder described in the sticky… now nothing is happening at all..
yep seems the EU servers are down unannounced for the first time in like a year?
I have been running a shatter spec sword/focus Greatsword and occasional staff, with null field and arcane thievery both of those keep me alive vs condition specs for a longer time but in the end I still end up face down..
I have no problem with any melee damage dealers including thief’s with the exception of s/d.
I can kill most d/p;d/d thiefs fairly easily.
I found that if I run sword/focus greatsword I have a greater chance of winning vs necro’s since I can keep on bursting for a very long time in the hope killing him before I am stacked with nasty stuff. for spirit rangers it doesn’t matter what I do I always die..
I have been playing mesmer as my main in pvp since launch and I really enjoy playing it…but when I dare to enter solo queue I am immediately barked at for being there.
examples of stuff that people say to me:
- dam a 4v5 we have a mesmer
- mesmer get out of the queue
- and other more offensive stuff
Am I wrong to queue as a mesmer?
I do notice that I die lightning fast vs spirit rangers and necro’s even with condi removes.
I find myself turning a 180 whenever I see a ranger spirit or a necro because I know even if I play at my very best I can’t win.
Is there something I am missing here, is there a counter against those two meta kings or am I doomed to reroll or play hotjoin?
Getting quite desperate here and I could use some help:/
Thanks
their priorities seem messed up, instead of fixing the balance, fixing all the problems with matchmaking, getting us some more game modes and countless other very important stuff they decided the minimap was way more important:D
this seems like fixing stuff that isn’t broken and screwing it up in the process.
I understand the thought why they would do this but for a lot of people with eyesight problems it might be 2 zoomed out. hell I have no eye issues at all and I have to peek at the icons to see what they are and I have a 27" screen:D
I can’t imagine what it’s like having bad eyes looking at a 15":O
I really don’t get why devs are using Directx, the only OS in the world that runs on it is windows. If they used OpenGL they could use it on ANY OS in the world even on playstation and xbox since those run on OpenGL as well.
you would think they do it because Directx is better but in fact the difference between the two is very minor.
Even if it’s a pain to convert everything I am still putting all my hopes up for a native client until then I am forced out of wvw because I just can’t stay there for 10minutes without crashing.
Game crashes every 5 min, am I the only one?

Likely not directly related to this problem, but since many of the people in here seem to be using a 2011 iMac with a Radeon graphics card, have a look at this:
http://www.macrumors.com/2013/08/16/apple-initiates-graphic-card-replacement-program-for-mid-2011-27-inch-imac/
This is not the issue we are having here.
like you can see on the screenshot on the macrumors post the entire desktop will appear in rainbow colors and that is not the case here.
I am having no issues with any other game then gw2 both in osx and bootcamp.
Simply amazing once again!
First of I am trying for the last month now getting the pvp apprentice pants, I have bought quite alot of deer boxes of all versions(copper;silver;gold) and I have tried crafting it in the mystic forge with no results whatsoever except for Magician and student leggings.
what I am wondering is does this item still drop from chests and the forge or am I spending my glory on air here?
also it it normal that all apprentice gear guaranteed salvages into silk scraps in pvp?:D
Thanks a lot this will help me greatly
I find it strange that there is so little footage of necro gameplay around while there is loads for (my main) mesmer. Like Xeph and kirmora
I started my necro for Tpvp a few days ago and I was looking for good streamers/guides/video’s on the necro. In specific good Tpvp builds and tactics.
I am having a hard time finding any of these the only one I was able to find was rocking a 20/30/10/10/0 condition build with full nightmare runes, but any gameplay footage of this is lackIng.
If any of you Know A good streamer/guide/vid or even some general tips on necro that would be much appreciated!
The main problem with the daily right now is that it becomes a chore very quickly and that now with the laurels in you are really forced to do them each day even if you can’t play that day.
Now the solution to this issue is quite simple, merg the daily with a weekly achievement.
So that the people that wish to do it daily can still do it and the people that for example can only play in the weekends will not miss out on any rewards.
The system might work as following:
The requirements for each daily all combined into a weekly achievement ,doing a daily or part of a daily will progress you in the weekly.
If you complete 1 daily your reward if you completed the weekly would be lower.
So you can do for example do 3 daily’s and complete the rest of the weekly in the weekend and get 4 more jugs and laurels from doing that. It total you still end up with 7jugs and laurels in total each week.
Thoughts?
This is a suggestion that is in my eyes pretty eazy to implement and will make a gigantic difference in immersion in the entire world from pvp to pve.
Binding for example: “lol” to /laugh , “good job” to /cheer, thanks;thx;ty to /bow, the list can go on for ages
Stuff like this should only happen if you say stuff in /say and never in any other channel, this can create very odd situations.
A good example of a game that does this is Aion and it creates a whole new level of polish to the game there and I would love to see something similar here.
going 1 step further with this might be adding environmental bound emotes like for example:
“it starts raining” characters complaints about the weather and takes up an umbrella
or “character stands with he’s feet in water” starts splashing the water up or tosses in a paper boat and starts looking at it excited.
example of this here:
http://youtu.be/BCw6L5wf0qg
thoughts?
In my guild we like to organise small events like : hide and seek, dungeon/fractial weekend, pvp events, WvW, etc
We have loads of fun doung this but we struggle to get everyone in the guild involved.
We use a forum and TS3 as our main channels to plan these things and we try to advertise them in guildchat aswell.
But for some reason people are too lazy to check the forum and not everyone is on TS so we have a relativly small attendance to these events.
We don’t want to force people to come on the forum and ts because we would like our guild to stay casual.
Do you guys have any tips to get the word across eazyer and get a more active guild in general.
Greets John
It is very clear there must be an issue here.
Every day I do my daily in orr and before the november patch I ran after the daily to the MF to toss my rares in hoping for something better to pop out, I was able back then to toss in 4-12+- rares each day!
Now I run to the MF every month to put 4 rares in. And that’s when I get lucky!:D
yea a venom thief would be nice aswell for the might stacks that I can double as a mesmer, but the guardian was more of a random choice really:D
we sticked the boss to the right in the middle of the cave
I think we just still lacked dps there I am sure that if the setup was 3xwarrior, 1 mesmer, 1 guardian we would have made it.
But I am not going to level alts or hire warriors that leave after dwayna just to do this.
I will wait for the dungeon redesign and pray for improvement.
it was the same drama in november and we lost 2 of our most active guild members on that boss after 8 hours of pure torture, they just burned out on the game when we did P4.
no we were quite fast (in my opinion never saw it faster) with the sparks the 1 was in in like 2sec and the 5 was in in around 6sec.
after 5-1 we ended up with 10% left on her.
Thanks to the original poster for his thoughtfull response. Me and my guildies had a similair experience. We we’re with 4 guildies and 1 pug. When arriving at dwayna, we knew we had a hard time coming. Boy, did we knew it would be so hard. First of all, the pug in our group wasn’t full exotic, no biggi for us normally, we don’t discriminate people on that. And he was kind of a beginner, but we didn’t mind. But when we got to dwayna, after two hours being stuck on the boss, we we’re forced to kick him, simply because his lack of gear and lack of knowledge, being more of a beginner. This really saddened us, that we had to do such things.
Furthermore, at that time, it was already late. So there were no more guardians or warriors in our guild online. Again, we thought, no biggie, we’ll just take another mesmer and be done with it. Again, problems occured. Since we we’re an unconventional team, 1necro/2thiefs/2mesmers, we didn’t pump out enough damage. We tried everyting, speccing into expensive food and undead potions, all possible tricks just to dps enough, chaining timewarp etc. In the end it was just void.
Now i’m sure it was because of our inexperience, but still a boss encounter shouldn’t be as bad as this. If all bosses in the game don’t require perfect skills, why should this one?
Were you trying 4-1 or simply running sparks?
I was in the same run as jelmew and we tried 4-1 and later we tried a 4-1-5 with timewarps like 4-1-warp-warp, 4-1-warp-5-warp, 4-1-5-warp-warp
it was 1 dagger necro, 2 classcannon thief’s, 2 greatsword mesmers.
1 of the mesmers(me) was tossing the tears piled up. we had no problems with those btw, ppl were instantly back up.
the 2 thiefs ran for the sparks
Edit: btw something to note: we used ember’s to maximize our damige even more but at 4-1-5 we noticed they pulled aggro from the sparks and they got stuck.(wasn’t this fixed?:D). I also noticed that my illusions still pull aggro from them, which caused us to fail multiple times
(edited by Enektric.4527)
the tacts on this boss are fine, the requirements on the dps is not! If this boss was the first one in Arah P4 it would be a lot better, right now if you go in with a group and you get all the way to dwayna after 6 hours and then all of the sudden you realize that your setup just can’t handle it and you will have to kick someone just to have the slightest chance of killing her, now that’s a problem.
At a certain moment we were thinking about inviting 3 new warrior pugs so we could have the dps we needed for dwayna and then after dwayna kick them again so we could have the 3 guildies back in and complete the dungeon. but we just thought that something like that should not be done ever.
I really hope they think about tweaking her rather good, and this time I am waiting for Thank you! posts until I attempt a run again.

Same issues for me. most of the crashes are in WvW and while accessing the map.
The map also tends to lagg very hard having a delay of 5s. while the rest of the game runs at a smooth 60fps.

I did not have these issues before the wintersday patch.
Last night I found an exploitable bug in the communing of a skill point somewhere in the world.
When you open the dialog menu of the skillpoint and wait until you get downed you will be free to commune the skillpoint without the interference of the enemy’s in the area.
you just get up and get channeling while the enemy’s are attacking you.:D
First I thought this was only the case at 1 specific spot but after trying it some more it seems every communing skillpoint has this issue.
When using the mesmer skill “Phantasmal warden” on a graveling breeder in AC explore(any path) while he is casting hes breath skill all the minions he spawns will be yours.
these minions will attack there mother or any other mob in the area until the mother is killed or the minion is killed.
this can be used as an exploit especially in path 3 at the burrowers boss with the 2 engineers(forgot the exact name).
In the screenshot you can see that all the minions are friendly.
I was hoping for a mac version since the first gw2 announcement, and honestly I started to give up hope 1 month before release. then when I saw the ArenaNet tweet at work I jumped into the air of happiness.
Arenanet just made an awesome game tons and tons better!
THANK YOU ARENANET
I would love the title bar to be gone behind the client but pops on top when I click on one of the other screens(like in windows).

Question: Will there ever be a native OS X version?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Enektric.4527
he means that the client is actually running on an emulator called “transgaming”.
running it on an emulator causes big performance drops on some systems. and It may occur that you can perfectly run the game in bootcamp but when you go to OSX you suddenly can’t because of FPS issues.
They can only make the client native if they use OpenGL instead of DirectX.
It’s weird that they took DirectX over OpenGL since they were experimenting with console ports which uses OpenGL as well.
the only operating system that uses DirectX is windows.
but we should be happy with what we have and that’s more then nothing.
I am happy to give 10fps to get rid of bootcamp.
