WvW and PvP Ascended Armor Upgrades

Hi,

Can we assume that those wvw/spvp gifts will be a lot cheaper than their pve equivalents, given that the resulting items will come without skins (historically the only reason for legendary prices) and that wvw (and pvp ? not sure) specific ascended armor is already a lot harder to get than its PvE equivalents ?

Hi,

More information about the bug occurence for my group, which may help find why a lot of people didn’t get the free armor but claim they were eligible. It happened on the tuesday, we started raid approx at 18:00 CEST (after updating the client if I remember well).

For us, the bug happened on Matthias. When we killed him, he disappeared but nobody in the team got a chest (neither bouncy chest with magnetite, nor big chest in the room). We went on to Wing 3 and came back to Matthias after that. The exact same thing happened again.

What’s more interesting here is that when we came back with all same players, the boss was there again along with his pre-event, as if we never killed him. So there is a good chance that the kill was not registered at all as a bugged successful kill, which would explain why we were not found eligible for the ascended armor.

Meanwhile, a lot of other players who talk about the bug, got no reward on VG, Gorseval or KC … so basically they were able to move on to next boss, proving that they did kill the previous one.

In short, is it possible that your detection queries missed the people who got the bug on the last bosses of wings (Sabetha, Matthias, Xera, Deimos) ?

The data supports the distribution that was made, and in fact included some players who initially would not have been included. Feel free to contact Customer Support with your concerns, by all means.

Hi Gaile. According to your previous posts, I should have been eligible. Yet, I didn’t get anything. I’m not going to accuse the company of lies or stuff like that because I don’t think you have any reason to do such things, but I do think that some mistake was made. for example, one of the queries that were ran to find eligible players was not run on EU servers, or some of those players who claim that they got stuff despite not being eligible were mistaken for people who were.

I did try to contact support, a few hours before your “all done” post. But unfortunately, they replied to my ticket with a standard message pointing to this forum post Apparently, your post came along with an instruction for them to now reject tickets on this matter.

Additions to Material Storage

I know you can’t include everything and I didn’t expect you to. This list looks amazing and it will free up quite a bit of space and let me deposit some new things which is fantastic.

I am curious why many of the scribe materials that I have on my scribe weren’t included.

Lumber cores, Pruning Shears, Giant Mushroom Spore, Badges of Tribute and the like.

I generally don’t make the intermediary things like wood pulp/dowels until I’m actually crafting something but the other things I have hanging out in my inventory until I get everything else. I’d love to deposit all of these things too. They’re not consumables, they’re not components, they’re a base crafting material that comes from nodes, drops and chests. I would personally give up all the dowels and wood pulp to get these items added. I’d love to play my scribe again but I can’t easily do that until her inventory is free. (See relevant bit of her inventory attached)

This. There are still quite a few items that are base crafting materials, that we get unintentionally, and that are not on the list. Right now my wvw characters all have strategic defense maps of the mists for example.

I feel that those items are more important than some items that are in the list (or already in storage) that don’t really need it because you should only get/buy/craft them when you need them so they don’t require storage. Example : 1-use legendary stuff that was recently added to the ascended panel.

About the 10 targets limits

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

AMA thread got locked while I was typing T_T

I understand that changing target number for ally buffs, especially passive, is hard to manage performance wise.

But I would like to give my opinion about this. I heard that the limit to 5 for aoe effets was made for wvw. I don’t know if it’s true but it makes sense to me. In other game modes especially pve, this limit (both for ally buffs and dps aoes) don’t feel natural at all. They have bad effects (like enemies getting invulnerable to some skills just because they have 5+ minions and lucky rng ; too much randomness for buffs in open world pve …). In raids, they bring gimmicky squad groups play which again doesn’t really feel right.

IHMO, the 5 target limits should be removed as much as possible outside of wvw.

I am OK with any raid boss buff that would be required to compensate for our new ability to only have 1 of each buff and probably have more dps builds.

Hopefully there is no performance issue for enemy-targeted aoe or even active buff skills. (at least in GW1 I could damage a lot of targets with savanna heat without ruining servers … and it was so much fun). Passive buffs with performance issue are another question.

A Suggestion For Raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Accessibility in terms of “Hey, my 5 man Fractal group wants to try raids, but we can’t find 5 other players!” is also something we talk about. It’s just a much more difficult problem to solve.

This is a major problem for me and my friends. I would love to do raids, but haven’t done them in months since my raid grouped dissolved out of nowhere.

I have the exact opposite issue. I have fun in raids because I have a nice team composed of 10 players around my level (people who can do mistakes from time to time but good enough to reliably kill bosses). I had fun even before having this team, because going to raid was a time investment, I knew I went there for long training sessions, I knew I was there to not give up, with people who were also there to not give up in case of fail.

But fractals ? No. My raid team doesn’t do fractals. And fractals are not raid : I don’t want to plan ahead, be there at given time, try a lot or whatever. Fractals are where I’d like to play casually, do my daily T4 when coming back from work for example.

But for me it became a pain with latest updates where anet wants to turn fractals into a training room for raids. It just doesn’t work anymore. I simply gave up after quite a few terribad experiences and now don’t play Fractals. Getting a team is not that easy, stuff is too hard to your average pug, people rage easily, ragequit (or even team as 3 bad players and kick those who don’t carry them hard enough), and even if people are willing to try you get a lot of teams who are not very good and end up spending way too much time/too many tries to beat bosses, which is NOT what I expect from fractals. You’d tell me “go t3” but tbh I’m more than capable of beating t4, there are less people in t3, and doing t3 is not what I want.

So please, keep doing nice raid bosses, I really like what you said here about the next wing. But reconsider using t4 fractals as raid training room.

Edit to add: If you’re referring to a comment about data-mined content, we do not engage in conversation on the topic of data-mined content any more than we engage in conversations about alleged leaks.

Nobody is asking for you to engage in conversation about data-mined content. But when said data-mining let people discover such critical bug and make you aware of it, I don’t think it would be insane to imagine you take advantage of this situation (and free pre-release QA) to take a look at the bug before release. Not engaging in conversation doesn’t mean putting hands on your eyes, ignoring stuff, and suddenly discover the bug when it goes live for real and then have to rush a fix and disable stuff …

edit : also, I got crashes in wvw, supposedly because of the outfit (other than that, didn’t get any crash since DS was fixed – also a lot other people around were blaming a guy wearing outfit). I have every settings on max already. So the workaround doesn’t work for everyone

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Hi,

I have played my main account in sPvP, especially Friday and Sunday in order to complete my 200 warrior wins. I was already in Diamond, won 35 matches and ended this further in Diamond after win/lose/win/lose/…. and a “normal” win rate a little over 50%.

With that done, I decided to play my other account (Eowin the Second.6807) for the whole Sunday. Won 35 matches in a single day. I don’t know what kind of win rate that is, but it’s much more than I ever got before and much more than my own skill should produce. Went straight from late ruby to legend in a day.

Today I decide to go back to my main account so I may get a second Legend. Guess what ? I am only losing match after match after match. Win rate 1%. I get teamed with people who play like in emerald. I was 12 pips away from Legendary, I am now 24 pips away from Legendary despite gaining 2 pips from a win from time to time. Again, this is way worse than any bad streak I may have had over the past 4 years.

I am the same player playing the same profession and the same build at the same level, only using a different account. At this point I can’t just blame RNG, the streaks are way beyond what RNG can produce.

It would be nice if a dev could look into my pvp history on both accounts , because at this point it may point to a bug in the matchmaking (the infamous mmr hell/heaven some people rumor about ?)

Thanks

Eowyn

edit : after 6-7 hours straight of losing matches, I decided to give up and go back to my other account. Instaly won 542-24. This may be anecdotal evidence for now …

Legendary weapons

As much fanboy as I am, I will have to “rage” on this.

A full set (minus underwater) of legendary weapons was one of the things that were supposed to be part of the expansion we paid for. You simply can’t scrap or even “put on hold indefinitely” something that is part of an expansion that was already released, only to free 6 developers, while you have 70 working on an expansion we’re not waiting for yet. Also, I sincerely hope that those 6 guys got pretty far into the development of some other legendaries because, even after spending myself sometimes 2 days fighting a bug that looked like “5 minutes easy” a few times (I work on a 1M lines app maintenance), and even after being amazed at how nice the precursor/legendaries collections are, I have a very hard time believing that it takes 6dev*6months = 3man-years of work for a single one. If that’s the case, there may be an underlying problem to address.

IMHO, we should have the full set of 16 new legendaries by October (is it insane to expect that something initially tied to and promised with a given expansion, even if we knew it would come over time, will be completely available 1 year after the release of said expansion ?)

It’s cool that you are setting a bigger focus on new LS, but even this is disappointing : by past experience and given that it was supposed to start again after HoT, it was not insane to expect it to restarts 3-4 months after release … 5 have passed and you’re still moving devs to LS teams.

ATM I have a very hard time figuring out what people are working on. 120 devs on live content (and 70 on expansion) means equivalent of 20 teams of 6. One was on legendaries and goes to LS, one is on raids, if we judge by past numbers we heard of about ls1/2, ~4 are on LS3 …. some on WvW overhaul … a few guys on bug fixes … and the rest ??

Oh and BTW, this announcement can really not sound nice when it comes right after you also confirmed to be ignoring stuff like keyring (or even putting key-like items in existing wallet).

a) They have repeated countless times that the max level DOES NOT change with HoT. It’s still 80.

b) 100 is a fractal difficulty level, it has nothing to do with your character’s level

c) HoT is not released yet, you didn’t just “buy” it, you “pre-bought” it. In other words, there is no reason to avoid logging in just to not “spoil” yourself. If you want to minimize spoilers and discover a maximum of things, avoid forums, don’t read or watch Anet’s announcements (the amount of details we got over 1 year leaves no place for discovery …), and maybe close the ingame chat channels (guild and map). But you can play the base game all you want :-)

- When ca we start downloading the patch ? (a while before content is unlocked ? during downtime if there is one ? at 12:01pst without time to pre-download ?)
- When will full patch notes be released ? Can we read them during download, or during downtime if there is one ?

I’m in France so release is at 9:01am. I’ll take afternoon off work, but depending on the answers to other questions I may take the full day. (for example if download starts on release time, I’ll just start download before going to work for the morning, but if there is a downtime or a pre-download time, I’ll get up in the night to start download and take full day off to start playing on Minute One)

Contrarily to a lot of people, I don’t think the whole event is bad. There are good and bad things.

I… honestly cannot see the good things about it. Its incredibly poor design that is based on tagging a single mob, then moving on to the next event. And that is all there is too it. There is no end bosses, no loot, no xp, no nothing until you get your tag reward you worked so hard teleporting around the map for.

Its like a lesson on how to do the most anti-social event possible. For GW2, which prides itself on its community and doing events together… that’s just horrible to see. Its sad.

Maybe you could read further than the 1st sentence. Btw, “… tagging a single mob then moving on to the next event … all there is to it” isn’t a problem with the events themselves but the reward structure with the max reward being too high so it encourages the behavior you describe. I talked about this somewhere in my post. Now maybe you could try actually playing the events, like all the players that do and let you get the stacks (because you would get no stack at all if everyone was a leecher like you).

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Contrarily to a lot of people, I don’t think the whole event is bad. There are good and bad things.

Event itself (ignoring rewards)

The events are nice. The problem comes from the time schedule. Waits should be shorter with new maps having the same countdown as the other ones (currently a map created at xx:40 will have an event that ends at xx+1:10 ). And there should be no downtime between each series of 3.

And of course the boon should not go away if we disconnect. You have technology for anti-dc boons (=> boosters). There is no need for another change anyway since they disappear when we get the end reward.

edit : also the scaling of events and the awarding of bronze/silver/gold medals are much better than average.

Rewards

Rewards are only awarded through the blooms, so everyone focuses on the bloom reward rate and associated prices. I think it’s not the way we should look at it.

Blooms

Currently, it requires a lot of investment to get one of the potions, and a descent investement to get skins that used to be in the gemstore (getting daily rewards 3 times => 1 skin, much more investment needed to get more skins). Imho this part is well balanced : ex-gemstore skins should not be awarded easily to the whole playerbase, same goes for potions that required playing a lot during the relevant LS1 episode.

Even the Scarlett boxes are probably OK : they are expensive but contain a lot of rare things. I guess they were made to lower the ridiculous TP prices of some items, but their bloom cost was balanced to avoid completely crashing their price.

The problem with blooms, is that there is no option for people who want to (casually or not) take part in the event but are not interested in the higher rewards that require saving up (or can’t get them). The choice is either save up for higher rewards, or gambled with Scarlet Boxes. There should be interesting low-price items that everyone else can buy at the end of each event. For example, make the bag of rare gear much cheaper and remove the gold cost (seriously paying 50s in addition to the blooms for a 40s item is not a reward !).

The other problem is the scale of blooms/boon-stack. 20 stacks for max are way too many as the ONLY way to get that much is to kill a mordrem and rush away, letting the other peoples complete the event (and get less blooms at the end!). It is OK to make sure that people participate and scale the rewards depending on that, but the method is broken. My idea : give stacks of participation depending on the medal (bronze => 1 stack, silver =>3 stacks, gold => 5 stacks). The medal scaling is well done : hit&run usually grants bronze, and getting gold requires staying for a while and actually helping. Then set the maximum personal reward at something achievable easily by anyone playing “as intented” (=> 25 stacks = 5 gold medals or 25 ‘hit&run’ bronze). In order to encourage spreading and completing the events instead of just killing mordrems, make the end reward depend on map event count – but not with a too wide range, otherwise people will taxi all the time to megaservers with a higher count and a few people who can’t get a taxi will be left with low reward.

Other Rewards

As explained above, the bloom rewards seem to have a given balance that makes sense. The problem is that they are not enough to reward the whole 30 minutes events. The gameplay feels really dry when you don’t get anything for 30 minutes, then only get the blooms.

At the very least, monsters should all have a regular loot table (only disable the champion boxes to prevent problems with people stacking near a few events instead of completing everywhere on the map, drama between people farming champs and people wanting blooms, …) ; and sub-events should have regular reward (small amounts of karma, xp and silver).

With this, we get a regular (even if not as high as farm) reward rate, and the blooms come as a nice end reward.

Yes, you have players who play for only AP and nothing else. Do those players really add that much to the game?

You have players who play for dungeons and nothing else, players who play for sPvP and nothing else, players who play for WvW and nothing else, and players who play everywhere and lots of other categories. Do they add anything to the game ? Should Anet stop doing anything and have everyone quit because each player doesn’t add anything to the game ?

kicking others for low AP

OK I see. You focus on the lfg issue with AP requirements.

Achievements are much more than just a way of raising the total of AP (=> fun things to do, possible AP hunt for people who like it – for example ex-gw1 title hunters, progress shown for players who are happy to unlock achievements when thy randomly complete something, short/mid/long term goals for people, activities, …). Achievement reward system is much more than just something thereto go along with a number to show in LFG (=> long term goals, dedication rewards, results for people who like to focus their gameplay on achievements, …).

And lastly, the total of AP, even if it can be displayed for pride and compared between AP hunters, exists as the consequence of the previous 2 (= achievements + reward system) and not as a tool for making lfg teams.

lfg AP requirements may be an issue, but it’s really not what I’m talking about in my 1st post. It’s completely separate. And AP requirements have nothing to do with what you call “the AP cap” and top achievers … top achievers are currently at 28-29k, and most AP hunters are beyond 20k. LFG requirements are most often much lower than that. Letting top achievers get more AP to advance in the reward system and letting AP hunters get more achievements to work because that’s what they like, will effectively raise what you call “the AP cap” but should not seriously impact the lfg ap requirement issue. People are asking for 5k not because it’s a given fraction of the max but because it’s what they deem the result of being experienced enough for their party without being an AP hunter. Now if you have a problem with the AP requirements in LFGs, please make a thread about this specific issue (which, again, is completely separate from what I’m talking about here), and create your own lfgs or join the ones without that requirement. And guess what, there are plenty of them.

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Hi,

Like a lot of fellow veteran and/or dedicated players, I happen to be an AP hunter. Right now I’m not very happy with the state of AP in the game : on the one hand, objectives are high and on the other hand we’re in a very long AP-drought … that I hope at least ends with HoT release.

Goals

Well, hunting AP is fun for itself but the overall score is tied to rewards, which sets sorts of goals.

  • Full armor : you need 30K AP to fully unlock an armor
  • Titles : datamined titles reach up to 60k AP

The AP drought

In addition to the non-addition of new content, hence nearly no new AP to gain in months, none of the basic achievement tracks have made it through 3 years of hunting (except WvW achievements in their current form, of course …).

Also, new AP rewards introduced since the last months of 2013 have been very tightfisted.

Lastly, AP hunters have been out of things to do for a long time now, outside of dailies.

Top achievers and AP over time

Top achievers are reaching 29k. In fact, a single player is over 29k (Kast.4053 is now the only owner of a pinnacle skin in the game) and a few are close to it (4 EU players and 2 NA players between 28900 and 28999).

Not being one of them (I’m far behind with 24k due to not farming dailies), I don’t know if they reached the 15k daily limit yet. If not, they’re probably very close to it, so we can safely assume that, after 3 years, top achievers gathered a grand total of 14K AP outside of the limited daily source. This includes both base game achievements, and all the living story, festivals and other temporary achievements.

My opinion

I think that being a top achiever for 3 full years should be enough to get the armor, without a need for a few more months or an expansion.

I also think that it would be reasonable to make the top goal (currently “Uncontrollable Achiever” title) attainable for said top achievers withing 5 years.

Both would still be longer for less dedicated people like me.

With the current situation, the first one is failed (top achievers missing 1100-1200 AP on 3rd anniversary) and the second is very unlikely (assuming expansions and living story bring as much as base + past temporary, it will take 10 years for Kast to reach 60k). Unless the daily limit is changed, but this is unlikely and ihmo would be bad : 15k AP is high enough and takes more than 4 years for a new player, while a lot of old players will be happy to hit it.

Conclusions

Please

  • Increase the AP rewards introduced between late 2013 and now, at least to the point where current top 10 achievers immediately reach 30k (+ whatever they gained between 3rd anniversary and today).
  • No more AP droughts like the current 10 (!) months. This should please everyone as this is closely tied to content drought. Maybe don’t announce next expansion 10 months in advance saying that things are going to happen fast ?
  • Make sure that future expansions (including HoT) along with in-between festivals and LS, bring enough AP over time to at the very least do as much as base game + what we got over the past 3 years, over time. In other words, give us wayt to make at least 5k/years (6k for 1 mini-chest/month). And at best to let top-achievers reach 60k title by 5th anniversary (which, unless my 1st point gives much more than expected, would make 15k/year … nice : 1 skin each month)
  • 1 AP achievements should not exist anymore. Go back to the old 2012/2013 way of estimating how much an achievement is worth.

- Focus on French translation and report translation mistakes through the ingame tool. Talk about my experience on French forums.

- Focus on general gameplay (not necessarily language related stuff), and write in English in the bug report tool.

Hi,

I just encountered 2 bugs with the gemstore :

a) I decided to buy the Griffon Mail Carrier. I press O, spend 500 gems, press H, use it => nice. I relog to my other account, press O => “You have already purchased the maximum number of this item”. Press H => of course, it’s locked. If you’re going to track my purchases cross-account so that I don’t have to buy the same item twice, it’s very nice but please actually unlock the item on the other account. Or let me buy it again.

b) My accounts were respectively deluxe and collector since BWE, but because of the discount I decided to buy deluxe upgrades so I would get armor + bonus for the price of the armor. I was told that I would get my items the next time I log in, but immediately got the package with heroic edition items : armor, mithril box, XP boosters. Relogging in doesn’t matter : I don’t get influence/rank-glory booster or even my 2nd Rytlock.

Also, I’ve seen horrors that hurt my eyes, coming from ‘creative’ players.

This.

I also prefer armors over outfits, mostly because I can chose exactly where the dye go.
But armors mixes are inferior to full armor sets 90% of the time.

People doing them don’t even realize that a dye doesn’t have the same color on all parts …

I am not completely against mixes (I even have one character with one, and had one on another character for a while), but they are rarely a choice over a full set, and I don’t really understand why people clamor that much about them.

I remember about another idea I had : I’d pay extra gems to be able to control GW2 instruments with a midi keyboard.

This probably sounds silly, but I think that it may not be that hard to implement : add midi library, bind midi notes to instrument skills and ignore notes that don’t exist on that instrument.

====> lower the soft cap on Megaserver population for that specific daily map.

The goal of this daily is to have fun doing events and re/discovering them. Not to struggle to get to events on time and be able to hit some bad guy before he dies. With soft megaserver cap lowered (by half !), we won’t have hordes of players rushing to each event.

All Champion Titles

Posted by: Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

This is one my my goals. I achieved 58% of it.

But I have a question about those titles. Here are my “scores” :
- Ranger : 200 victories including a very few number in hotjoin back in 2012 and rest in solo queue. Has both achivements.
- Mesmer, engineer, necromancer : 200 victories in solo queue each. Have all 6 achievements.
- Elementalist : 129 victories in solo queue/ ranked arena, according to achievements.

I’d think I have a total of 929 victories toward “Conqueror” and a little less toward “Champion Brawler”.
But those 2 have respectively … 904/1000 and 916/1000.

We have at least 3 puzzling things here :
- total victories in all pvp modes < total victories by profession
- total victories in all pvp modes < total victories in “tournament”|ranked
- total victories in “tourmament”|ranked < total victories by profession – the max 5 games won in hotjoin.

Oh and my pvp stats say I won 906 ranked arena games (so we have a 4th different number), 3 team arena games and 886 solo queue arena games (those 2 were wrong before december update, but don’t know if they were equal to any of the 3 numbers above)

Hi,

I have a dual screen too with HD7970. Here is my setup :
- windows extended desktop
- left screen as main screen because I play on this one
- taskbar moved to right screen (I have win7, don’t know how it works with win8)
- game options => display => “fullscreen windowed” (not sure about the English name of this, I’m not at home right now)

That option lets you move your mouse out of the game so you can do whatever you want on your other screen. GW2 will always run on your main monitor if you use fullscreen windowed or fullscreen, which is why you may want to move your taskbar like I did.

Make me buy all gemstore instruments

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Hi,

I’ve refrained from buying gemstore instruments since the start, for only one reason. As soon as that reason gets fixed, I’ll buy most if not all of them (right now that’s 4000 gems).

==> Let us play flats (b) and sharps (#).
Also, make sure that there is 0 cast time/aftercast or anything breaking rythm. I know organs are impossible to play properly because of that. My new Choir Bell doesn’t seem to have this issue.

How to make this with current game mechanics ?
-> F1 = b
-> F2 = normal
-> F3 = #
F1 to F3 would either replace the skills like 9 and 10 already do, or apply a modifier on the next note played (we already have combat skills like Sharpening Stone that change the behavior of the next skill used, so I guess that this mechanic can be reused for instrument notes). Paying a Do after pressing F1 would sound the same as playing a Ti, playing a Fa after pressing F3 would result in a currently impossible Fa#.

Better idea but may not be possible with current game mechanics : F1 F2 F4 F5 F6 for usual altered notes.

Btw, several other gemstore items don’t feel “finished”. Given how they are priced, we would expect a better finishing of gemstore items.

• Permanent Royal pass/Captain Airship should let us reconnect without being kicked out of the place (especially for captain’s Airship as it causes double map loading – triple if we want to go back on it). Also, we should be able to use them from instances or from heart of the mists … just like the home portal stone.
• Total makeover / haitstyle kits should be available on character creation and used from bank if we choose one of the additional haitcuts/faces.
• Account bound items that are priced for full account use should give unlocks like Hall of Monuments Portal Stone or Zenith weapon skins. Or at least have a soulbound version of the items available for people who want them on several characters. The price change that came with account bound gathering tools felt really bad. This idea is for : gathering tools, both salvage o matics, home instance stone, and even toys (instruments, bobble head, water bombs, broom/tunneling/carpet).

Note : any dev looking at my account will see that I’m not joking when I say that I’d buy all or most instruments as soon as they get properly playable. The amount of money I’ve spent on gems over 2 years is very high (and check my second account too, just for fun…)

~Snip~

Your math is a little off, under the new system it will only take someone 4 years and a little over 1 month to reach the new maximum 15000 pt AP total for dailies, not 5 years. For you specifically, it will take another 2 years and 4 and third months to reach the daily maximum, so it will be sometime in 2017, not the end of 2016.

I know that getting 15k AP with 10/days is a little over 4 years, and not 5 complete years. But chances are, most new players – even hardcore – will miss some dailies. If I had to start now, I would count 5 years and probably actually need 4.5.

For me specifically, I would have been done before the end of 2015 with the old system (I still need 3861 points to reach the 10k limit, which would let me finish on the 2015-11-02 if I grind ALL dailies EVERY day … I miss some of them so I had plans for 2015-12-31). With the new system I’ll miss 3861 + 2694 (how did you calculate without knowing my current monthly score ?) = 6555 => if I don’t miss any daily [and if the system is not changed again before that] I’ll be done on the 2016-10-01, not in 2017. That’s 11 more months, my previous rough calculation was not too far from reality.
Of course it’s earlier than my “end of monthlies” date in the old system (march 2017) but I liked the idea to be done with the daily limit earlier as monthlies are not the same kind of preoccupation.

Hi,

The forum reorganization broke all forum bookmarks or external links (from reddit for example).

Redirections should have been made to avoid this.

Example : I just clicked one of my bookmarks to a pvp thread -> 404. I opened a new tab to the main page of the forum, clicked my way to another pvp thread and compared URLs. Then I just had to replace “/forum/pvp/pvp” with “/forum/game/pvp” -> no more 404 so the thread has not been deleted and is just missing redirection. Not all players know how URL works so a lot of people will not be able to do the redirection manually.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Hi,

I really like the new Daily system, but the “AP” side doesn’t seem very good to me : we go from a max of 360 dailies/month + 100 monthlies/month to 300 total/month.

- For veteran AP hunters like me who did not max dailies before april feature pack (I felt like it was an endless grind so I only got 5-10/day, until the 10k limit was added. At this point I started trying to get them all again in order to reach the limit and keep playing the game without worrying about them). It pushes the maxing of daily AP much further away. I thought I would finish them by the end of 2015 (I currently have 6117 on my main account), now I’ll need one more year. When I saw the blog post, I really hoped that we would get a way to get MORE AP/day in order to reach the limit sooner (= satisfaction to reach limit, no more worry about dailies, and catching up on people who farmed them when the system offered up to 23AP/day). Instead of that, we get LESS AP/day :’(.

- For new players : with the current system, new players could max dailies in 3 years and monthlies in 4 years. Long enough. With the new system, they will max the total in 5 years. Which leads us to a point where GW2 will be as old as GW1 was when GW2 game out. Retaining players for a long time is good, but a 5 years system is not a good idea and really removes the benefits of the 10k+5k limits.

My (independent of each other) ideas :

(A) After giving 10AP for completing a set of 3 dailies in a category, also give 5AP for completing a set of 3 in a second category, 3 AP for completing 3 dailies in the last category, and 2 more AP for completing ALL dailies. Total 20 (still less than the 5×5 we had in january 2013, and less than 20-25×1 before april’s patch). People who care about AP but don’t want to grind dailies will go for the best time/effort option : complete a set of 3 in one category and get 10 AP. People who like all areas in the game and want to move faster toward the new 15k limit will be able to get 15-20AP depending on the days (playing all 3 areas each day being hard).

(B) Add 1 point for each additional daily after the first set of 3. Max = 19AP/day if I’m not mistaken.

© Don’t modify the new daily system as it is really good and part of its purpose is to completely remove the incentive to grind them for AP. But don’t merge monthly and daily AP limit (so daily limit is still 10k). Keep current monthly achievements (I don’t really understand why they have to be removed as they are not a grind) either as-is, or until a new monthly system similar to the new daily system is designed.

(D) Similarly to ©, don’t change the new daily system and don’t merge daily/monthly AP pools. Give 100 AP for completing the new 28-days tracks, and count those AP as “monthly”.

Premades vs soloers.

in PvP

Posted by: Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

So, solo players that are not “serious pvp players” (I understand “pvp-only players”) should go to unranked ?

Here is my story, and I strongly believe I’m not alone : I mainly play GW2 toward goals. I enjoy the whole game (in which pvp is just a small part). My current goal in PvP, as I just reached r80, is to finish all profession achievements. That means, 200 ""tournament"" (now : ranked) wins (yes, 200. I know it was 150 tournament + 50 hotjoin but I preferred staying in solo queue up to 200 for game quality and rewards. Now I may as well go for 150 ranked and 50 unranked but that’s still mostly ranked). I still have a lot to do : currently have 104/200 on my 5th character (out of 8 ).

Which is why I immediately started playing Ranked after the update. For my next 3 characters I’ll probably play 50 wins in unranked so that I can master their builds then go for 150 more in ranked.

I had fun in solo queue. It was not perfect, there were often new players who didn’t know about hotjoin, some ragers … but the overall match quality was OK for me. Now in ranked arena, I face premade teams (btw I’d be very interested if you can get my data for yesterday) and there is no fun as I have no chance to win. In addition to that, my current goals became much longer : 200 victories with 30% wins = 667 matches take longer than 200 victories with 55% wins = 364 matches. And even more longer as my motivation to play PvP will decrease since I know that I’ll most probably face premades.

Second point : guilds. I feel that after discovering how the new system allows premades to farm, a lot of previous solo queue players decided to go premade. One of my enemy teams yesterday (a guild) openly explained that they are PvE players … but they also said that they got 37 wins out of 40 matches in the day : they just realized how farmable the new PvP is and went for a whole day of PvP (remember, they are PvE players). Not everyone is able to do that, and real solo players can only get farmed now. About my own case (this time I may be alone) : I don’t have a guild anymore. I have been playing alone for months now (my last real guild was destroyed, and the leader of the next one – that I joined just because it was the last EB guild in my server but was full of trolls – kicked me before switching server as he knew I would voice against that). And even in my previous guilds, I would not have been able to form PvP teams at the times of the day when I currently go to PvP.

Also, I don’t want to join a guild for PvP. I’m really happy about the solo queue playstyle and freedom. So I will not be among the ones who start making teams to exploit the new system.

Premades vs soloers.

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

It’s not just about mmr score / ladders.

Losing again and again feels bad. Not fun especially when I realize that each match is against a premade and I barely have any chance of winning. And in addition to the feeling, this is still (a) loss of rewards vs winning ~50% matches (tracks, rank up rewards), (b) loss of rank progression for people who are not r80 yet, © loss of time for people who work toward profession achivements.

So even if the algorithm is OK and doesn’t take a single point off my score, constant randomVteam fights are not good.

edit : and (d) it ruins stats in the pvp window.

I don’t know if I’m in the right thread for this.

Yesterday I read a dev stating that the weight of team size in matchmaking depends on a parameter that is currently low.

He said he would be happy to change the parameter once he gets more evidence in addition to initial forum reactions.

So here we are : today, I played 4 matches. 3 of them were against premades (maybe 4, not sure). The 2nd team told me (10 mins ago) that they lost 3 matches out of 40 today. They are taking advantage of the (broken) system before it gets fixed.

btw : didn’t win a single match today ! It’s simply impossible now with all those premades taking advantage of the situation.

edit : premade vs randoms can’t be completely avoided even if you set a higher value on the weight parameter. But one thing could be done : when the matchmaker knows that one team is premade and one is random, it should eliminate the “new” map as premades will mass-vote it (and they will be prepared for it while others will not. This map is too different)

But but but … there is a vote choice.

So either you are right and this is universally silly -> no one will ever vote it -> no problem.

Or you are wrong, and some people actually like this map -> they vote it -> the proportion of times when you have to play on this map = the proportion of players who vote for this map in the PvP community -> no problem.

So. No problem.

Btw : got it earlier, had a fun time. I’d not want to play it too often, but it’s kind of refreshing.

4v5 all day long. Dishonor not working ?

in PvP

Posted by: Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Hi,

I’m currently spending the day in PvP (solo queue). I’ve had as many 4v5 matches today as I had over the last 2 months ! Most of them on my side, of course. And often the leaver left while we had a little more points than the other team.

It does not look like a server side issue as there is always exactly ONE leaver.

After more than 10 4v5 matches, I suspect that a single or a few players are ruinning solo queue in EU either on purpose or by not understanding after the 10th disconnection that they should not keep coming back to PvP.

In any case, it seems that they are/he is not properly stopped by the dishonor system as they should. If that’s someone doing it on purpose, he may have realized tht the dishonor system is down and is exploiting it.
I just can’t believe that exactly 1 player in each match (or every other match over the last 2 hours) gets a random DC. This can’t be bad luck after 15 4v5 matches in the same day !

Anet, plz re-enable the “old” dishonor system until the new one is up. Also you could see the list of players in the matches I played today and see if a single account (or a few) leave matches repeatedly and suspend them.

So the forums and reddit are on fire, because of the currency exchange rate.

While I disagree with how loud people are ranting and think that this is not a core system and should ignore it while it’s in the current state and just enjoy the Halloween event; I have to agree that the change is bad. (big buttons and instant view on price scales are nice especially for new players, but the lack is choice is severe)

Even if it may be right that most of transactions were over 400 gems before the update, fact is, they may not have been multiples of 400 (buying 450 is more than 400 but not 800!). Other fact is, the community is on fire, so calming the fire would be a good idea no matter how few players anet think a change would help.

Since I don’t know how the system work, I can’t tell if adding a box to let us choose the exact amount of gems we want is as easy and it seems.

But there is probably a solution that is easy to implement in the short term and would calm the community until a better solution is found
-> remove the 1200 gems option (clicking 400 + 800 is easy if people really want 1200)
-> add a 50 gems option

The 50 gems option will let people round the amount they need to a much finer scale while still not requiring too many clicks.

Longer term option ? Add a second button near “buy more gems” : “buy another amount”. Clicking on this new button displays a textbox that lets us choose the exact amount we want. Don’t know if this one is easy to implement since the back-end system may have been replaced with an Enum of options for example, don’t know if it’s ok regarding the real reasons why the change has been made (insert theories about money greed from ncsoft) , this is why I came with the above solution that should be ok at least for short term.

Devaluation of mini carlotta and prince thorn

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Eowin Of Rohan.2619

Eowin Of Rohan.2619

• Devaluation of Thron has a reason : his introduction last year was as a candy sink, but this sink was failed (and Anet admitted it) as it was triple (x1000 candy corn need for existing recipes, +20000 and 15000 candy sinks with mini and bag, decrease by a big factor of the candy corn sources). So they tried to repair it, hence the cheaper price on Thorn (also because now Thorn is not that single goal you may have to use your corn : there are many new items). Problem of course is that it is not cool for people who bought one last year at its too-high price (but as someone said, those people enjoyed it and the +14k corn prestige for a year)

• Devaluation of Carlotta is a very bad thing as it was a real money thing. Worse : one of the minis that require buying a second pack. I think this one deserves a refund of gems (but not corn).

• Why do they devaluate these things but not the 2012 skins ? The answer for 2012 skins is always the same but oddly doesn’t affect other items. Anet will have no probleme devaluatin gemstore items that were supposed to be one-time-only (special dies, BL skins …) or IG items that were also supposed to be one-time only but not as expensive (karka event items => shark tooth skins, shoulders, breahting masks)
This may feel like a very bad conspiration theory and I may be completely wrong (in that case, apologies; but I’d like to have a real explanation about why some very expensive items are not re-introduced “to keep their value for first acquirers” while some others less-expensive ones don’t have this rule ?) —-—> Very-very expensive items like the 2012 skins are the property of John’s fan club, the guys who are everywhere in the BLTC forum, and explained a lot of time how angry they would be if those items would return. The other supposedly-one-time items people may have invested in are owned by the average casual or non-trader players. Again , my conspiracy theory may be wrong, but it’s really how the double-standards feel now.
