Agreed, one skin does not cover the feeling of accomplishment a player should get from wearing a glorious armour-set received as a reward for their good deeds by the Priest/Priestess of a God, when there are six differently themed Gods with different values in terms of what they perceive as rewardable behaviour. The armour should, in my opinion, reflect the way a specific God leaves his/her/their (yes, I even thought about Lyssa) mark on the world. I mean, let’s be honest: armour that in PvP is called: “Armageddon armor” and has a skull-helmet in its heavy variant doesn’t exactly fit my picture of Dwayna-approved armour.
So yes, I completely agree with Marcus in this. Anet has the creative talent, passion and ability to make even this part of the game feel more alive.
One last added thing: I do really, REALLY love the concept of how to obtain these armours. From the Event-chains to the requiring of Karma to buy it. Awesome concept given life in an awesome manner!
Want! No really, this should be added into every game at least partially driven by customization. Modular Weapon Customization is fun, it gives players a reason to collect various weapons and allows a sense (if through the illusion of-) of uniqueness.
It will be hard to implement though.
Regardless, I would be a very, very happy Guardian for this to be added!
I like this idea! The amount of time you spend with a certain pet (this could be measured either through a timer or through obtained experience) determines how “grown up”, which is to say: big/mature-looking, the pet will be. There should, of course, be a maximum size/look to that. Also, “growing up” shouldn’t influence the stats and skillls of a pet in any way in my opinion; this should be an incentive meant for fun and immersion, not a way to force people into a certain playstyle because that’s the stat-wise “best” way to go.
Anyway, great thought, Pure Heart!
Pile, slice, roast!
This is the build I have grown to love most. It’s essentially a Greatsword-based mob killer and, though probably not the best one here, I will tell you it is extremely fun to play with! Allow me to show you:
The build pretty much explains itself, but still…:
1) By using Binding Blade, you bind 5 of your favourite mobs.
2) You then proceed to cast Symbol of Wrath, which has been upgraded to cover a larger terrain and will cause vulnerability on all surrounding foes.
3) Immediately after casting Symbol of Wrath, draw your bound lovelies to your newly made killzone and activate Virtue of Justice, blinding them and giving you added Might.
4) Activate Whirling Wrath and start chopping with whatever you have available. Notice you’re healing yourself by doing so.
5) Keep an eye on your Virtue of Justice activation timer and notice that, when the first of your new fanclub falls, it is recharged so you can activate it again, giving yourself more might and blinding your enemies.
6) Repeat the activating of Virtue of Justice for every critter that dies by your hand and marvel at the fun.
Utility Skills are pretty much free to choose, though I tend to go for at least one of either Signet of Judgement or Signet of Mercy (if not both) for added survivability. Signet of Wrath is also useful, as it increases your burning damage, of which you will be dealing out a lot with this build. Judge’s Intervention and Purging Flames can help greatly in giving the build momentum to your first kill.
As an Elite Skill I highly recommend Renewed Focus as this build does not really… build (Eh?? Eh??? …Oh alright…) itself on taking too much damage in a short amount of time. Activating and then quickly “reloading” Resolve and Courage can greatly help in that area, especially since Renewed Focus gives you a few more seconds to get your Signet of Resolve’s reload time down.
Have fun with this build and don’t get those lobbed-off-head-stains on your armour!
Awesomely done Kestrel, I’d like to thank you for the immense effort that likely went into this. So too should everyone. You’ve made us an amazing resource!
As another silly Dutchman, I would appreciate it greatly if Anet added iDeal as a payment option. It’s simply more direct and convenient in use than Paypal.
Definetely agreeing here. I would love to customize my sword to match my armour.
Hello everyone,
Two days ago I was busy getting supplies for my new Draconic Armourset. I was running around in Orr, you know, re-killing undead, when I came across a Karma Merchant who sold pieces of armour; gloves and gauntlets, I believe. By now I can almost hear your mind asking: “Why the heck should I care about you talking to one of like fivehundred Karma Merchants, Escildan?! I’ve got better things to do, darn it!”
Well, because this merchant gave me an idea for fun little addition to the game. You see, most Karma Merchants sell equipment with quotes from them in it. An Aqua Breather you buy from a Quaggan, for example, ever so fittingly quotes: “ooooOOOoooo”.
My idea is this: allow ingame crafters to place a similar quote on their Masterwork, Rare and Exotic products. Use profanity filters to keep crafters from using insulting/offensive language in their quotes and keep everything about gear the way it is right now. Every “powerful” piece of armour you craft could then have a bit of uniqueness and recognition in it, even (or maybe especially) when you sell it.
“Signing” your own armour should, of course, be optional. Something you, as the item’s crafter, can do by selecting to do so by, say, right-clicking on the item before it’s soulbound/out of your inventory.
I would love some feedback on this. What do you guys think? Is the risk of people writing isanity/profanity on their items too great?
Well guys, I for one take the latest nerfing of our favourite class as a compliment.
Clearly Anet thinks we can Save Ourselves!
Though I am a Guild Wars 1 veteran, personally, I would not mind mounts if they were introduced into the game well. Yes, they would feel out of place at first as Guild Wars has never been a game, nor had the lore for them, but this is a new game set in a new time with new mechanics. Mechanics that allows to find a use for faster movement. Let’s face it, when exploring for points of interest, most of us eventually end up using our increased speed signets/skills. Apparently increased movement speed within limits doesn’t ruin the game for a lot of people, as much as it fulfills the desire to sometimes speed it up a little. Why not give that increased movement speed a face… or… head this case? I’m not talking about mounted combat or anything flashy like that; that wouldn’t fit Guild Wars 2 at all.
What I’m talking about is a future expansion in which mounts are given a valid lorewise reason to be inserted into the game as a way to replace the sight of players who run around with 35 km/h by casting Swiftness every 20 seconds by something that feels a bit more compelling.
I think the fees are indeed somewhat insane, but yes, I can see this working as a part of endgame gear. It fits with how Guild Wars 2 works (given the whole transmutation stone system and all that). Maybe they can incorporate this as a special legendary reward for an enormous quest chain. This could be the result of an experiment done by a collaboration between Sylvari and Asura in which the player does all the work. The player might then be rewarded by the chance to have an armour like this be build.
Is this a suggestion that could work for your idea?
See we don’t need dire or elder pets anymore…cuz we have 40 different animals that have their own unique stats & abilities. In GW, the only difference between most pets was whether they were elder or dire or playful….now we have blue moa, pink moa, raven, eagle, jaguar, fern hound, brown bear, black bear, polar bear, cave spider, jungle spider…….need I go on? yes, it was neat to tame a lvl 4 wolf and raise it to be your own. Only now if you tame a lvl 4 spider, it instantly becomes your level and always will be. Maybe it breaks immersion, but I like the variety we get now.
Your arguement is non sequitur
Guilwars has 36 pets.
This isn’t about quantity, this is about having the pet play a specific role to your build
Hence Hearty, Playful, Elder, Aggressive, Dire which werent about pet abilities. And all tameable pets in guildwars were level 5
Okay… factual errors aside, would you not say that, with 36 different pets having several differing stat- and skill build ups, there are enough ways to have your pet play a specific role that goes with how you built your character?
Still, I am kind of in love with this idea. It deepens out the Ranger class on a more personal basis. I love the concept of actual physical evolution of your animal companion and these five stages mentioned However, the only way I see to realistically make this idea useable in GW2 would be to to have all your tamed pets match your current level, as leveling them all individually is… well… brutal!, and let the playstyle of the ranger individually influence which pet evolves in which manner. The problem I foresee in this concept, however, lies with the issue of constants:
Either a pet evolves into a certain type permanently, which makes it unchangeable and so not very forgiving for possible mistakes, or it can evolve into any type at any time, which may render your hard work in getting, say, a Hearty Pink Moa, worthless when accidentally using a quick DPS build with the wrong-coloured Moa. The problem with permanent evolution can be partially solved by the use of items and/or NPC services to “reset” your pet. (Anyone notice the rhyme there? No? Well…. alright then). The loose form of evolution may be crackable as well, though I’m less of a fan of it.
This would make for a nice bit of endgame content for Rangers; trying to obtain every type of Moas in all 5 evolutions and such. (Yes, I like Moas. Say you don’t, I double dare you!)
I would not mind an expanded form of official character profiling in the sense of being able to post a nice picture of your character (“Say cheese!”), a description for the story-lovers among us, a list of the names of your other characters, what world you play in, maybe even a your-favourite-weapon/item-spot. Your in-game title could even show on the character page. As you the OP said, it’s a good way for your friends to look you up and see what you imagine your character to be like.
What I would mind is anything that encourages players to judge eachother’s skill in gaming based on nonsense like gear before ever having seen them fight. In theory, being able to check other players out, gear included, sounds great. I heartily agree on that. You may get ideas to improve your own item configuration, trait build, etc. But the point is that the people who are saying that similar features will be misused by players to create stuff like Gearscore are right, because they will be.
I want to see this game the way I see it now. The closest thing to greatness in a community I’ve ever seen in an MMO.
I agree in that downing the effectiveness of a Greatsword Guardian seems almost random. We are not more powerful than other classes in terms of damage and though I can understand Anet’s desire to experiment on retaliation, which I agree is part of what makes playing a newly released online game fun, however, what I do not appreciate is that this has to happen at the expense of what is essentially our combat effectiveness and thus gameplay fun.
As a player, I have faith that Anet has our best interests at heart, but this patch feels like a really bad typo; a mistake.
There are a few things that spring to my mind that I would want to see added in Guild Wars 2, aside from what is already planned and added (which is, mind you, AWESOME!). I hope I’m not just repeating the words of others with this post, but…
- I would like to see a bit more progression in the crafting of weapon models. Of course there’s room for the standard weapon model and the “native” one (i.e. Krytan, Shiverpeak, etc.), but it wouldn’t hurt for default Weaponsmithing to feel as varied as Armoursmithing in terms of what the player actually produces. As a Weaponsmith it doesn’t matter whether your weapons are bronze or darksteel, their skin does not change. If possible (and I don’t know how the rest of you feel about this), I’d love to see the same system used in Armoursmithing, tailoring and Leathercrafting , wherein equipment forged from new materials has a new look to it, applied to Weaponsmithing, Artificing and . I think that would make the discipline a lot more enticing for lower level player.
- Here’s a suggestion for a “barber” system. I’ve been hearing a lot of people asking for a way to change your character’s appearance in terms of haircuts, choice of face, etc. Why not introduce a system in which the Asura have developed a series of Tonics in different forms to change your character’s appearance. You could call it Asureal! Because Guild Wars 2’s worth it!
Think of these tonics as a somewhat cheap (to keep them accessible) Gem Store product. They would work through alchemical magic, transforming the parts of your body you want changed, into whatever you desire.
An alternative to the Gem Store suggestion is to distribute these Tonics as rare loot. You could split up their functions as such:
> A “body lotion” for the body features; skin colour and/or fur colour (Tan-in-a-can!), body shape, etc.
> “Shampoo”, or hair dye, for… well… the hair costumization.
> A sort of skin care product parody I can’t think of for the facial details.
And that’s the pretty much the high and low of it. You’ve done an excellent job so far in delivering us this fun, engaging and detail-filled gameworld. Thank you for that Anet. I look forward to what you’re going to add to it in the near future!
When you pick up an apple and are surprised your skills haven’t changed accordingly.
“Apple Übersmash Attack go!”
