While VPNs are allowed to be used to connect to GW2, I strongly recommend NOT to remember this network, because a hacker who got your password can then use Battleping to get into the same IP Address range as you and evade authentication.
If it is too much of a hassle to check for E-Mails on login, use mobile authentication instead.
I should not have to be level 80 to run level 35/50 dungeons, plain and simple
Nobody prevents you from starting your own dungeon group if you are not okay with the rules and specifics of already existing ones.
I once used “know the path” and “2kAP+” as a requirement, and tbh, it not only increased waiting time, but also was detrimental to group quality because it was more likely i’ll get ragenerds.
I nowadays only use “Lv 80 only” and dropped “know the path” as well as any kind of AP requirement; I get some 600 to 800 AP dudes, but they either know the path or are able learners, plus it seems to drastically reduce fill time. Really had no problems with them finishing the dungeons in a timely manner.
However, I nowadays always attach “english” (not the flag, as that one tends to be confused with an american guy playing on europe or someone on NA servers) as well to make sure i don’t get <non-english language>-only guys who refuse to speak english or read the reqs altogether.
It’s nonsensical to require zerker gear because it is unethical to enforce a playstyle on someone who might not feel comfortable with that playstyle. Also, even gear posts can be faked by copypasting prepared tag strings.
Still, dropping “Lv 80 only” is out of question because below level 80 it’s likely you are missing essential skills and/or traits for your planned playstyle.

Also, the seek time of an HDD vs SSD is also relevant in WvWvW due to how individual each player layouts his/her weapons and armor.
A 10ms delay for a sword model/texture or a headpiece can really slow down the FPS (sure, your system reserves unused RAM to cache sectors, but if you “see” some gear for the first time, you’ll notice slowdown. And that each restart).
And yes, the GTX570 has more shaders, but heed this warning: The GTX 500 series is intentionally undervolted to lower it’s power consumption at the cost of hardware instability and bluescreens

GW2 is a CPU-Intense game. Getting a dedicated GPU will certainly help in non-zerg situations to get a better FPS, but you’ll still encounter low FPS issues during world bosses and zergs. You should get a CPU with at least 1,900 Passmark Singlethreaded Points from that list: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
GW2 uses DirectX9 which is still strictly single-threaded. You cannot use DX9 in a multithreaded rendering context, thus AMD CPUs (strong in multithreaded apps, weak in anything single-threaded) are out of question and cannot be used with your mainboard anyway.
There are no non-SM3-GPUs anymore, so this is no longer an issue regarding compatibility towards GW2. You should get a GPU with at least 1 GB VRAM and 768 Shaders (or Compute Units). Anything below that is not effective for better details and/or a high FPS.

Let’s say it this way: At least ArenaNet did not remove the key from the first chapter. Thus it’s still feasible (about 1hr) to get the key, which is okay.
At least they let you farm the key, in contrast to other greedy P2W companies.

Flash Memory = Storage Memory = HDD = Delayed loading
RAM = Working set memory = fast memory = Instantly there
Besides that, 25 GB available memory will hardly be enough in about a year, the gw2.dat is already at 20 GB (or 22 GiB if you use the 1k = 1000 instead of 1k = 1024).

You are not the one who actively exploited. You clearly involuntarily took part in that exploit, as that can be seen from your active behavior after the event. You’ll likely not get punished. Next time though report the exploiter for exploiting, then file a bug report (use the ingame function – posting exploits publicly is forbidden) reporting the exploit.

Report it as a game bug here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs as it clearly is a bug.
I highly doubt that there are 20 times more users on a PS4 than on a PC.
You’ll most likely have loading issues (pulling data from swap) and anything else seems to run like on a slow Commodore C64 with a datasette while GW2 is minimized (Don’t try to buy gems via PayPal with only 2 GB of RAM, you’ll load longer than the timeout permits)
Yes, you can run GW2 with just 2 GB of RAM, but it’ll not be fun.
You should have at least 4 GB, better 8 GB (and 64Bit OS) to have a flawless experience. Also don’t try to push graphic and textural details too far on a 32Bit OS because the memory management of GW2 has “glitches” on 32Bit and may crash.
This is an issue with your ISP’s DNS caching mechanism. You can try using Google DNS instead:
On Windows 7:
1st:
Start -> Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center -> Change Adapter Settings -> Adapter you connect to the internet to -> Right-Click -> Properties -> Internet Protocol Version 4 -> Properties -> Use following DNS servers:
First line: 8.8.8.8
Second line: 8.8.4.4
Ok -> Ok
2nd:
WinKey+R -> cmd
Enter: ipconfig /flushdns
now try again.
NOTE: Undo it after 24 hours because you usually won’t be able to access your router’s configuration page because your local router hostname cannot be resolved through Google. Also, DNS caching issues usually fix themselves after 24 hours because that is the maximum allowed caching time.

Note that you cannot play with players from a different server region. (I.e. you are EU, them are NA)
If you have an HDD as a secondary drive, try installing (do not copy your existing GW2 installation) it on your HDD.
If that works, your SSD might be damaged.
You probably exploited a safespot and a GM catched you. Also note that you’ll not be warned if you try to sell the exploited dungeon instance. Next time might be permanent.
According to the assertion, your GW2.exe wasn’t patched correctly.
Normally, this would require a re-installation of GW2 to force updating the executable, but you can download the executable separately here:
http://cloudfront.guildwars2.com/client/Gw2.exe
Replace it with the existing one in your GW2 installation folder.
NOTE: If this one fails too, the only solution would be getting GW2 from someone else as the cloud servers were out of sync. I could upload my gw2.exe but I’d risk an infraction doing so because it might give the assumption that I may try to phish other people’s accounts.

China < – > America is a laggy route. Same counts for China < – > Europe. This is because of the route distance (both being 9000+ Kilometers). Nothing can surpass the speed of light and the computation speeds of routers as well as it’s queuing and using the VPN services enworsens it, due to service congestion and rerouting.
By the way, there’s no transfer option from NA/EU to CN. You’d have to repurchase GW2 in China (which is for a fact even P2W [imho]) and start over from scratch.

It will worsen performance. The AMD FX-8350 is good in Multithreading, but lacks everything else in Single-Threading.
Single-Threaded performance is actually the most relevant indicator for everything that still uses DX9 (and thus for GW2 as well)
Keep the Intel Core i5 4670K.
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
http://www.cpubenchmark.net/common_cpus.html
FX-8350: 1509 Single Threaded Points | Overall: 9024
i5-4670K: 2220 Single Threaded Points | Overall: 7723
Though the FX-8350 might be a slight boost in overall performance, it will do worse in single threaded applications which most DirectX9 games are. Unless you plan to play DX11 (and only DX11) games with enabled multi-threading, you should not change.
EDIT: You have sold a better CPU than you are planning to get! Bad idea.

Trading: You can trade via Black Lion Trading Post. Other ways of trading are neither safe nor intended.
Stats and Effects on weapons varying: We don’t need another Diablo or WoW. Also, this would lead to a vertical progression system in which you’d farm for the perfect copy of that item which is against GW2’s Manifesto tenets.

Considering your Mainboard you have DDR2 RAM, which means if you wish to upgrade your CPU (Intel preferred because GW2 is yet another DX9 game and thus strictly single-threaded), you’ll have to replace MB and RAM as well.
Your GPU has, depending on the 3rd digit of your GPU type, between 640 and 800 shader units. Unless you plan to play DX11+ games, your GPU is yet suffcient as it is equivalent (shader count wise) to a GTX750.
You should consider upgrading your CPU to an Intel Core i5 or i7 with at least 1900 Singlethreaded Points in this sheet: http://www.cpubenchmark.net/singleThread.html
Multithreaded benchmarks make no sense in context of GW2 despite some dual-threading, because the DX9 rendering pipeline is still strictly single-threaded (thus a CPU which is strong in Multithreading but weak in Singlethreading makes no sense).
If you wish to upgrade your CPU, you’ll need to replace RAM (newer CPUs support DDR3 only!) and your mainboard as well (because it supports only DDR2 RAM), but DDR3 RAM is by far cheaper than DDR2 RAM because DDR2 production has been phased out (and the working remaining DDR2 RAM modules are sold expensively).
If you wish to replace your GPU (not yet necessary) as well, you should better consider saving more money and buy a completely new system instead. Upgrading your GPU and keeping that old CPU together makes no sense because the GPU would get bottlenecked.

Make a virus check. If you are completely unsure, format your computer without data backup (virus can transfer/be transferred in a new/existing backup) and reinstall Windows.
After this, let your e-mail address be changed again, change your password and use mobile authentication. Remove all authorized IP addresses and never save your network again.
Hello,
If you use a VPN service to connect through to GW2, do not save your network for authentication. Because the VPN service provider usually has a very small range of IP addresses, a hacker could skip authentication by using the same VPN service as you to get into the same range!
If you wish to continue using a VPN but dislike the hassle to always check for e-mail, setup mobile authentication. Grabbing your phone is faster than checking for e-mail.

Set anti-aliasing in your driver to application-specific (not ingame). It’s conflicting with the in-game settings and messes up the depth filter.
The best middle ground for world bosses would be mechanics that may require cooperation but not as much organization as in Tequatl or Triple Headed Wurm.
Some interesting mechanics that may enhance The Shatterer but not force organization like on Teq/Wurm:
- You could make The Shatterer’s breath weapon spew a crystal powder AoE as an aftermath result for 5 seconds which could work similar to the electric field AoE Golem Mk 2 uses (and of course as deadly!).
- You could ocassionally let The Shatterer harden it’s scales which requires crystal shards to be picked up (perhaps from the healing pillars!) and thrown at him (like on Karka Queen) to continue damaging him. If there are insufficient shards or none at all, the mortars have to break his scales.
- Let The Shatterer turn around and spew it’s breath to the direction where most players are standing, forcing the blob to disperse and move around him over time or get wiped by the breath and/or the crystal powder field.
- Make The Shatterer’s bombard attack more deadly. Let it spawn exploding mobs which could not only put you near death if they explode, but also deal vulnerability for 5 seconds so that you have to put them out from range.
- Occassionally, mobs that were spawned by bombardment could wander to the mortars in order to damage/destroy them. Without the mortars you can’t prevent The Shatterer from hardening it’s scales. They are of course reparable.
- [OPTIONAL – Remove that idea if it is too much “organized”] Mortar ammunition could have to be brought by players to the mortars. Without someone carrying and placing the ammo, the mortars can’t be fired. This way players can either take turns to fire or if the mortars are safe carry ammo to them.
These mechanics would make The Shatterer a Tequatl Lite and require only 2 groups to be built: Those who defend and use the mortars and those who attack The Shatterer directly.

Can Chinese players get onto an NA/EU server?
in Account & Technical Support
Posted by: Ettanin.8271
You can only play on the american and european servers with a non-chinese GW2 license (You should still be able to register a non-european CDKey in China). The GW2 license you can purchase in China can only be used to play on chinese servers.
The Ministry of Culture as far as I know did not ban access to the NA and EU GW2 servers. However, I do not know whether ArenaNet/NCSoft is contractually required to ban Chinese players from entry into the NA/EU servers. (Riot is contractually required to ban Asian players from entry into the non-asian servers of League of Legends thanks to Garena). You can test this using a chinese VPN server. (Change your password and de-authorize all IP addresses immediately after testing)
Also, the chinese and non-chinese clients are fundamentally different. You cannot use the chinese client to connect to NA/EU and you cannot use the NA/EU client to connect to the chinese servers.
Also note that chinese language is not available on the NA/EU client.
The use of VPNs is deprecated on GW2 due to how authentication works. If your chinese friend still wishes to play behind a VPN, she somehow has to get Google Authenticator on a mobile phone (I do not know whether this tool is banned in China) and use mobile authentication while never saving her network, because some hacker can abuse the saving methods by using the same VPN service as your friend and then could skip authentication.
TL;DR:
- GW2 bought in china:
- Usable on chinese servers only
- Usable inside China only
- GW2 bought in non-european, non-chinese region:
- Can only be registered outside of the European Union (due to tax regulations)
- Usable on american and european servers only
- Usable everywhere, unless the MoC banned it or ANet is contractually required to ban access inside China
- VPNs:
- May breach GW2’s authentication security
- If you use one, never save your network because a hacker can abuse that using the same VPN service to skip authentication if he has your password.
- Use mobile auth definately if you wish to use a VPN. You can access your phone faster than your mail account which can be a hassle because you should not save your network.

This is a known issue regarding memory management of GW2 on 32Bit OSes.
The only solution currently is upgrading to a 64Bit OS.
And the only way to improve would be to either move countries
A possible solution, albeit not easily feasible.
Or transfer my account to the closest possible region which would be EU
It will likely improve the latency but you’ll likely still not get a sub 100ms latency. More like 120ms to 160ms.
It is still playable though, you’ll just need to react a bit earlier.
EDIT: Using German Telecom LTE (Base latency 40ms) i get 100 ms from Welver, NRW, Germany to Tehran, Iran, about 140ms to Dubai (Host: Etisalat) and about 100ms to Baghdad, Iraq (Host: Earthlink). A sub-200 ms latency is possible, but a sub-100 ms latency is unlikely, depends on where you live.
(edited by Ettanin.8271)
Correct. It’s not a bad latency by network congestion but by distance.
Would upgrading my internet package would help . And what upload / download speed do you recommend me upgrading to that would help greatly
Upgrading your internet connection wouldn’t help as you can’t send signals physically faster than the speed of light. It’s the distance to the servers that is the problem, not your internet connection.
If you change from the american region to the european region, you’ll likely still get a not-so-well latency (within the 200ms region, perhaps inside the 100ms region), but it’ll certainly be lower than what you get from the American servers. It depends on where you get routed through towards Europe.
A two-figure or lower latency is not possible from the UAE, that would require a server that is at most distant as Turkey from you.
I believe the datacenter of GW2 EU is in Frankfurt(Main), Germany, near the DECIX, which would give good to moderate peering to all of Europe.
Hint: If you delete all characters, then relog, server transfer will be free. Note though that you can transfer (free and paid) only once a week.
(edited by Ettanin.8271)
@Sariel V not entirely true.
I was once disconnected in the swamp south of TA while running. When i reconnected, i found myself at the border of the swamp, despite never walking there locally.
Steps to not let it happen a third time:
1st: Change your e-mail password, do not re-use a password or a variation thereof.
2nd: Change your GW2 password, do not re-use a password or a variation thereof.
3rd: Account settings -> Security -> Remove all authorized networks
4th: Since e-mail based authentication is too insecure for your usage (it is the bare minimum of security), get an Android or iOS smartphone and use mobile authentication (Account settings -> Security -> Add mobile authenticator). It uses the Google Authenticator.
5th: NEVER save your network again. Otherwise some shady sites or malware can use your IP as a VPN to intrude into your account again.

The price of cloth will fall as cloth will be more common and farmed by all cloth professions. Good idea.
Anet should have gem sales 50% off few times a year to boost gem in the market, right now to much gold in game and to few gems…
On conversion? This would mean that even less gold gets converted due to the 50%.

Much like we had Dhuum during GW1, what about:
A randomly chosen Elder Dragon’s Lieutenant swooping down,

Any nearby city guards draw their weapons and look in shock towards the occurence (if the ban is commencing inside one of the capitals).

Jormag: Similar to Claw of Jormag
Zhaitan: Similar to Tequatl
Kralkattorik: Similar to The Shatterer
