It certainly requires more kiting than it used to, with the damage being higher, but it is definitely top tier viable. Those who watch the EU esl cups will notice that many teams are running them now, including orng, the current wts champs.

The all too common mistake with bunker guard is bad rotation. Though it is tempting to have your BG sit on mid, they should be rotating to teamfights. If there is a 3v3 on the map, they should be in it, and if they are in it they will probably win it.

That said the the possibility of losing 1v1s, which I would say is more dependant on the skill of the guard player than the build in this case, is largely irrelevant as they should not be in them!

tldr;
No they can’t facetank everything
They are great if you rotate them correctly

Purity is now part of this trait. it slows degeneration in downstate by 33% and removes 1 condi every 10 secs

How? Max vit you can have is like 1800 or so, so you have 180 extra healing power when you heal allies.

What are people’s thoughts on using meditation mastery over purity or strength in numbers in the standard 0/1/6/6/1 bunker? (or the 0/0/2/6/6 I suppose)

The reason being the reduction to of renewed focus’ cooldown to 72s from 90s, now that it is a meditation.

Very strange graphical bug with new gpu

So I got a new gpu a while ago – AMD r9 270x
and it runs great on everything but gw2. The graphics are good, and fps is fine but I get this ridiculous bug all the time;

Sometimes it seems to come out of people, for example in the third screenshot the targeted guy had the grey blob thing coming out of his head and moving around with him.

Before you ask, yes I have the latest drivers.

Any ideas? It makes rated pvp pretty much unplayable

Think of it this way;

Soldier’s – PTV gives a bunkery power build, but power damage requires precision and ferocity to get to high levels of DPS. That way, no bunker can have high critical chance and damage

Dire – CdTV gives a bunkery condi build, but almost all the damage from a condi class with a dire amulet is from the condition damage stat. The condi damage of a dire amulet condi class is the same as a rabid amulet condi class. As a result the only reason to take anything other than dire would be to proc things on crits i.e. incendiary powder (though sigil of intelligence would be a better option for that).

gratz op, I know the feeling of finally getting on the lb after months of playing so enjoy it! ;p

Regarding the Jump to 773, you will drop back down and off the lb if you don’t play for a few days. It’s not just decay but more the fact that those you jumped above will play again and probably overtake you.

A more accurate ranking would be an average over a month or so I suppose

There are some classes/builds which are strong 1v1, but it doesn’t matter so much because there aren’t that many forced 1v1s in the game.
e.g. you play offguard and go far, turret bunker engi on their close, you know you cannot win so what do you do? Go mid, simple as that, and you completely negate the engi’s 1v1 advantage. If he comes up to support mid, it’s a teamfight where aoe can kill the turrets.

My point is, it might not be good game design for 1v1s, but the game is not about 1v1s.

Matchmaking is based on MMR (matchmaking rating) which is closely related to leaderboard rank. PVP rank i.e. dragon, dolyak, bear etc has no effect.

However, if the game cannot find enough people at your MMR, it will slowly expand the MMR bracket until it finds enough people. This means that after a long queue at non-peak times, those with high ratings can get matched with low rated people and vice versa.

once the ten players are found they are put into teams, based on the average MMR of both teams being roughly equal.

In short, if you want better matchmaking, play at peak times and don’t queue for more than 4 minutesish.

So occasionally there are two people down very close to each other, one an ally and one an enemy. Sometimes it’s better to ress your ally, sometimes it’s better to finish the downed enemy. Due to them being the same button, the game requires you to click on the one you want to stomp/ress, which can waste valuable seconds in a teamfight.

So I’m asking for an optional keybind, along the lines of the walk key (not bound by default so as not to complicate things for new players) for ressing/stomping.

I feel like this would be a nice quality of life change, especially for bunkers.

Leaderboard is still on GMT, we are now on BST (GMT+1) in the UK. Not a big deal but the ‘last updated’ and ‘next update’ are one hour behind.

I think it would be useful to have a bag which pvp weapons automatically go into, in a similar way to an ‘uncommon equipment box’.

Just to avoid deposit all collectibles after weapon switching.

Invisible bags do the job but when you switch from say mace/focus to greatsword, the main hand goes where the GS was in the bag and the focus goes into the first free space in your inventory. If you then deposit all collectibles the focus will be sent to the pvp locker.

Just a thought but i think it would be a nice quality of life improvement.

So I did some testing and found a few things.

I originally thought it was simply half damage in spvp/wvw, but it isn’t.

So on a guardian with 1800ish power, these were my results;
223 spvp (1839 power)
336 hotm (1839 power)
338 pve lvl 80 (1862 power)
226 wvw (1902 power)

The wiki formula;
198.45 + (0.075 * Power) is for pve and, strangely, the heart of the mists.

spvp/wvw seems to be something like 198.45+(0.0135*power)

So as a general rule, Spvp/wvw retaliation is 2/3 of pve/hotm retal.

They have said in the pvp roadmap that they are removing pvp crafting. Keep in mind if it’s a 30% rate it’s 30% every time, it doesn’t get more likely the more you do it.

Also; a 20% nerf tops would be sufficient. Any more than that and it’s completely useless AGAIN. x.X (don’t play warrior)

I’m not asking how to play my classe; much rather how a good bunker should behave
in different situations.
Let’s assume I go close first, is it a good idea to help out in mid
after that considering my low mobility or stay in case the enemy has
roamers for decapping far?
The easiest maps are foefire and spirit watch because of the little time
it takes to get from mid to far/close so i’m specifically asking for kylo
and niflhel.

Is it even a good idea to go close first as a bunker in forest considering
the capper normally bursts the npcs or should I straight head for mid?
There’s also the danger of the enemie having burst roamers who can
gank the person guarding close easily. (I have seen enough thieves with insane
burst potential)

Is it considered useful to leave home in kylo to treb mid during a teamfight or should that always do a light armor who is not as useful in team scenarios?

Is it the bunkers job to secure the buffs on the kodan map?
If yes, which ones? Tranquility seems a little bit of a hassle, again
because of low mobility.

It sounds like you are trying to be a close point defender, rather than a mid bunker right?
If so;

A: yes if no one comes to your point, but don’t fully engage, be ready to get back to your point quickly.

A: Depends on your team comp, if you are the bunkeriest bunker on the team, go to mid, though you should have that role in mind when buildcrafting if you want to be a mid bunker. Don’t worry about bursting the npcs, only kill them if the enemy team are killing it and you can steal. (as a general rule)

A: You may hate me for this but, this one is a matter of practice. As a bunker you should not be being killed ‘easily’ by thieves/glass cannons. It might take some time, but keep practising.

A: you may get away with this, but treb is far too far away from close to really justify this unless your team needs the help on mid that badly. I would suggest trying to help the teamfights in other ways.

A: It is not the bunker’s ‘job’, but it is important. Try to help your team with tranq/still, don’t worry too much about ferocity. I commonly help at tranquility as it really is a game changer. I would say don’t go to a buff if you are in a fight on a point that you own.

A: I really don’t know, not a warrior, though I do enjoy a good banner res. You should be aware that you aren’t removing conditions from allies with CI/zerk stance

Just in case the devs haven’t noticed, leaderboards are still saying next update at xx:xx BST (british summer time), we are in GMT (winter) now in the UK. Its basically an hour ahead.
Not a big deal, but just should be easy to correct.

For starters, I NEVER afk because I respect that other pixels represent humans.

But what in the hell is my motivation to do otherwise when I know I’m going to get the exact same amount of points? Top player rewards don’t count, you know who will get them before the match ends and it’s a small amount. It’s REALLY depressing with this new point system. I have to audibly tell myself to not stop playing every time we are about to lose.

On a duel server, sure it’s fine, but on a tPvP or even sPvP? Zero motivation.

Because points/glory/rank points don’t matter. Its about the game.

Gold gives a higher chance of dropping better gear which can then be salvaged for slivers. If you want powders, just buy bronze and salvage everything.

Here are some stats from hotjoin games, feel free to add your own so we can figure out how this works.

game 1 – loss 192rp
game 2 – win 284rp
game 3 – win 277rp
game 4 – loss 160rp
game 5 – win 259rp
game 6 – win 274rp
game 7 – win 149rp – this one was less than 7 mins, gives less than a loss.
game 8 – loss 134rp
game 9 – loss 161rp
game 10 – win 276rp
game 11 – win 261rp

And that’s all I’ve done so far, we can see that it is not a completely flat rate, perhaps the rp is adjusted by rating/mmr/rank? Also, a serious penalty for winning in less than 7 mins, we’ll see how that works out.

I’ll post some results from soloq later on, but please feel free to add your own.

Play whichever you enjoy, the balance issues discussed on the forums are only truly relevant in high end spvp. If you are just starting, skill is a much bigger factor than class.
