Wow look at all these people calling each other biased, pretending that they aren’t biased themselves!
The portal device doesn’t hurt mesmer’s role in anything. Ya’ll are all just a bunch of quickness/alacrity bots anyways.
Ooohhhh boy, is that the Demonoid logo? tsk tsk tsk
First day I got three ascended chests. Granted, that was from all the boxes I had saved up.
Though since then, one infused ring with bad stats, and a 1-use salvage kit.
Whoooooooo~~~
Oddly enough, human females are the only ones I’ve ever seen with properly moving Unbounds.
Oh, and it’s still not fixed btw
I’m pretty certain they said it’d be available around the time people could start building Unbound……. I’ll have to go find that, and I’m feeling pretty lazy.
Regardless, I’m not sure what’s holding it up. It’s kinda sad just sitting on the precursor.
inb4 someone pulls the “Legendaries are supposed to be hard” card.
Anyways, it’ll be fixed eventually… Maybe next patch if you’re lucky, but don’t hold your breath. Honestly, I’m not really sure how this got in after they said some time ago, as far as I remember, that this wouldn’t be a thing anymore. But uh, well… here we are, I guess.
I love the use of the term, “new technology” used to describe an animation applied to the skill bar for revenant swaps. As if it’s some amazing breathrough or something.
Anyways, someone should develop a plug-in for Chrome that blocks Vayne’s nonsensical forum posts. That’s some “new technology” I could get behind.
With reaper, you can actually just not take Death Perception, and instead go for Decimate Defenses. Assuming you’re keeping up 25 vuln, which you should be, you’ll have the same 50% bonus crit chance Death Perception would’ve given you.
You can then take Dhuumfire for a bit of extra damage on top of your swings, or Foot in the Grave because stun breaks are nice.
How do you acquire viper gear?
From Auric Basin. First, you need 250 aurillium to buy the recipes for insignias, inscriptions, and exquisite jewelry. Then you need to buy the recipes for particular weapon bits. You can either buy these off of the TP, or get them via random drops from Exalted Chests from the Auric Basin meta event.
So do we all need to grind crafting to be able to make these armor sets or can we have a friend make it for us? Can the armor be purchased from the TP?
I’ll complain about grind as much as the next person, and perhaps even more. But I’m not sure getting crafting up neccessarily is a grind in most contexts.
No Viper’s can’t be sold on the TP (for better or for worse). You basically either gotta farm up the recipes and diamonds, which can be kinda grindy, sure. Or you can buy it all with gold. Either way Viper’s is gonna be very expensive in either gold or time. So I often think that people requiring Viper’s for raids which I see once in a while is a bit over the top.
Of course, you can always do the super short HoT story for the Viper’s Equipment Boxes that you get at the end. That’s one way to do it for free, and for some people, repeating the story over and over might be more attractive than doing a billion AB metas, or throwing all their gold away.
Gonna start a firestorm here but..
Option for upright stance on Charr.
/smokebombNot to say I’m a proponent/opponent either way, but some players have asked for it in the past.
That aside: More custom colors for head accessories!
This, please.
All my charr are gonna have awful back problems.
Saying something is wrong doesn’t make it wrong.
That’s true but stating my opinion is wrong is ABSOULTELY wrong. I stated an opinion. An opinion which many share. How can that opinion be wrong? It’s wrong to call an opinion wrong.
It’s my opinion that blue is a superior color to red.
It’s my opinion that tank thief is effective
How can my opinions be wrong? What you’re saying is absolute nonsense. Normally I’m not much a fan of people who just say, ‘oh your argument is bad’. But seriously, I’m not sure you’re reading what you’re saying. In fact:
It’s my opinion that you’re not reading what you’re saying. And you can’t say I’m wrong. Because it’s my opinion.
Wut?
Saying something is wrong doesn’t make it wrong.
I think it has more to do with farming competing with event. People who farm do so because it’s a better source of XP. The problem is, if too many think in that way it screw the meta-event for the rest of us. If they just give events more XP they shorten the time required to get mastery. So if they don’t want that, they have to nerf what compete the meta-event: the spiders being one thing.
Yes. Think of the meta events guys. That’s why they made sure not to put the entrance to the raid in Verdant Brink.
…oh wait
Sight
Did you just, like, read 2 posts above you? The one where I said the entrance to the raid being in VB was a mistake?
Sight, indeed.
The precursor crafting is about the journey, not the destination. Yes, I could buy and have bought precursors off the trading post. The experience cheapened the experience of making a legendary. I didn’t own that experience.
There have always been two types of players who play MMOs. Or rather two poles of players. Those who play for immersion and those who focus on mechanics. Most of us are somewhere in between, but many of us lean to one pole or another. And these poles are mutually exclusive. If you’re focused on numbers and mechanics you’re looking for the most efficient way to do something. Where as an immersion player cares more about what fits their character’s style. A greatsword might be a better weapon but my character is definitely an axe man…well plant.
The point is if you’re a mechanics focused player, buy it from the TP and don’t craft it. There’s no reason to. But as a immersion focused player, I’m happy to be able to craft it, and making the journey cost more takes nothing away from it for me.
I apologize in advance for how rude this is going to sound.
What you’ve just said is absolute nonsense. It’s a complete BS dichotomy that wouldn’t hold up for a second outside the magical land of theory. I do plenty of “journeying” in MMOs, and have done in GW2. That doesn’t stop me from thinking the entire legendary system is a convoluted mess that only resembles a journey if you consider a journey to be “actively ignore the legendary system until the pieces fall into your lap.”
If you don’t ignore the system, it’s a convoluted process of numbers (yes, numbers, you can’t wave them away and pretend they don’t matter), RNG, and exceedingly complex time investment so that you can make a single sparkly item.
A single. Sparkly item. In a video game.
And if that just happens to be the kind of thing that gets your rocks off. If that’s what you call a “journey,” then fine. More power to you. But don’t sit there on your crystal tower and talk down to people who are willing to acknowledge the numbers sitting in front of them. I expect you’ll give me some BS line about how you’re not talking down and you’re just explaining how it works.
Just don’t. The tone of your post is clear: If you don’t like the system, then take your lumps and deal with it in the way that fits your special little box.
I’ve had about enough of peoples’ haughty behavior toward other players. If you disagree, just say it, for the love of Mordremoth. Drop the gold paint and say the words. I’ll take a blatant insult over a sneaky one any day.
^
I want to take this and just post it absolutely everywhere. Plaster it on the backdrop of the forums, and smear it all over reddit.
<insert facepalm image here>
kitten it is 12 days although tbh it doesnt really matter if its 12 or 100. thats what it takes to get this item and you either are willing to do it or you are not
It’s comments like this that make me lose faith in this community. I often wonder to myself if a large portion of the GW2 community has ever played another game.
Having to start and stop on a quest after small steps because of a time gate is just not fun. People want to have fun playing the game. It’s as simple as that. XD
I logged into a map doing the VB event today, and we got T4. I even got the coat box.
Though, that was probably just a fluke.
I think it has more to do with farming competing with event. People who farm do so because it’s a better source of XP. The problem is, if too many think in that way it screw the meta-event for the rest of us. If they just give events more XP they shorten the time required to get mastery. I’m getting extremely persistent crashes since this latest patch.
I still don’t understand how people can miss the point. I’m going to try using small words.
It’s not that people don’t want to work.
It’s that what they had worked for was taken away.
Progress was reset.
This is not rocket surgery.
Everyone who refuses to hear this simply seems to want to make themselves feel superior. If you’d take a moment and actually read what is being said, you’d see that you are countering arguments that very few people are even making.
That’s what this community is.
And if you get annoyed about it, they just dismiss you as a “whiner” who “wants everything now”.
Oh no, you will have to play the new content, woe is me.
Buck up and do a bit of pve, it wont kill you.
The complete and utter lack of respect some players have for the way other players prefer to play a game that is supposedly all about, “play how you want,” is astounding.
You can also blitz the HoT story. Doesn’t take that long because, well… it’s not that long.
Not to say that’s an amazing alternative, but it’s a thing.
I guess.
My over feeling about the expansion is how I feel about just about everything as a whole that arenanet does. They come up with a GREAT idea, they start working on it, then realize “OH kitten, this is gonna be so much work, and we are so under staffed cuz our business model doesn’t make kitten for money, and its all on me and my meager pay check that barely feeds my family and i gotta make this deadline. I guess I’ll cheese kitten this kitten, make it look pretty and cool to disguise the fact that theres no real depth and the underlying mechanics and engine are shoddily build and held together by bandaids.”
Anet does try to do a lot, that is for sure.
However (puts on critic hat) they also waste a lot of time on unnecessary things. It’s the Harry Potter movies syndrome, where there are all these cool details that they have time for, but that they ignore because they see a butterfly and go off in some other direction that they thought would be cool in the moment.
Anet is great at having visions and making things from those visions, but they don’t seem to be that great at sticking to a vision in the long-term. I don’t know if it’s because of staffing, because of money, because of players, because of workplace politics, or a variety of other possible causes… but whatever the case, when Anet revamps a system they go all out and they make it super new in the process. Except they make it so new that it barely fits into the existing structure of the game.
I would argue that Anet’s Achilles Heel is feature creep. They have big ideas and even bigger expectations from players, but they can’t possibly fulfill all of those ideas. And I don’t think it’s just being under staffed as you said. I think it’s more a matter of losing themselves in those ideas to the point that they forget they need to integrate every new feature into the game in a way that is both meaningful and doesn’t disrupt the existing design.
With unlimited time and resources, their game would have every cool feature ever asked for… but it would also be a hodgepodge with very little in the way of centralized design.
In a macabre twist of fate, one of the few centralized design trademarks this game has is the endless grinding for items that have virtually no impact on gameplay. And a lot of people despise it. Probably because, in a contradictory twist of fate, one of the few centralized design trademarks of this game is that most of the content is soloable, with limited investment in skillful gameplay, and a general sense that most of the game is made for whimsically whittling away free time more than it’s made for any sort of competitive seriousness.
These two are at war with each other because anything that vaguely resembles a “grind” is against the whimsical whittling design. There is little whimsical about farming 1,000 Doohickeys to make a Doodad.
With HoT, the design philosophy appears to be leaning in the direction of abandoning whimsical whittling entirely. Which, if true, is probably motivated by monetary concerns more than anything. It’s just weird to me to see a game that seems like Red one minute and Blue the next.
Meanwhile, the playerbase seems to regularly fragment on this contradiction. The one side begging for whimsical whittling and the other begging for more Doodads to make, even if it requires farming 20,000 Doohickeys. Anet cannot fulfill both of these desires at the same time in every kind of content and retain their sanity as human beings.
They also cannot make the game perfect and, in my unprofessional opinion, should take better care in the future to reel in their enthusiasm a decibel or two. Sometimes the best ideas are also the simplest. And sometimes the most fun ideas are not ideas that require years of development, but simply require careful consideration of each detail.
It is easy to run away with ambition and forget that the goal is to make a game that’s fun and will last the test of time. GW2’s history is littered with cool features and temporary implementations that simply didn’t last the test of time. Which is not a shameful thing, but it is something to learn from.
When I play this game, I can’t help but feel at times that I’m a guinea pig for someone’s artistic experiments. I’d rather be a participant in Da Vinci’s Mona Lisa, if you get my meaning. Not really into being the guy who bought his paintings when he was moderately good at it.
It just kills me that this game has so many half-finished ideas with so much potential and the bloatedness seems to increase over time, instead of many of those half-finished ideas reaching their full potential.
More people, especially at ArenaNet, need to see this.
I PvP every day, and the worst I ever see is ocasionally someone gloats about how amazing they are at dragonhunter or something. Nearly 1200 games.
I stand by the belief that the OP is just extremely thin-skinned.
It’s not like the way they’re using these “profane words” are going to somehow magically circumvent the block feature. lol
I wonder how GW2 would look to people on the outside if people were actively and consistently being banned for saying “bad words”.
Do you mean like people in real life when you say on the outside?
I know in some establishments you may be asked to leave if you are being vulgar or disruptive. If you refuse and continue your actions there are legal ramifications.
No, I mean people in other games who might consider playing this one.
“Yeah just don’t say any bad words or they’ll ban you.”
I wonder how GW2 would look to people on the outside if people were actively and consistently being banned for saying “bad words”.
No thanks
Implementation of a Code of Conduct is the first step in a SJW takeover of a space.
Pretty much this.
A code of conduct isn’t necessary. This is the internet, people say things. Get over it. It’s not gonna hurt you. etc, etc, etc, things we’re all already thinking

Honestly, it’s been how long since the mac beta first came out, with limited to no support?
Yeah, nothing’s gonna change.
Eir died like a tertiary character. I would’ve never guessed she was important had I not seen the previous story arcs.

Like I said before, I just hit enter after selecting the invisible gw2 application. Usually gets it to pop up for me.

I guess a late 2013 mac pro doesn’t meet their ‘minimum requirements’ considering I don’t have any startup programs and it still runs like I’m trying to run on a TI-83.
To run GW2 on a mac, you must need the latest and greatest 2018 mac desktop.

Crossover does good work. I don’t know whether or not they support Guild Wars 2, but as a temporary fix, it might suffice.
Still, though…Mac client, pl0x.
crossover is getting better. I know that I can run the 64 bit beta on wine. I gotta admit. wine has come a long way.
how’s that perform compared to the cider wrapper?

Oh, people have actually been able to load up the mac client in the first place? It’s been about a year since I was last able to actually even see the launcher.
Reinstalling and clean downloads have changed nothing, time and again e-mails have directed me to the same rando troubleshooting pages that have nothing to do with my actual problem because no one knows why it even exists and no one knows how to fix it. Seriously got a suggestion that said “now try accessing the trading post again” just because they threw everything else they knew at me.
Is it that weird invisible launcher bug? Sometimes on a patch, when you open the game, the launcher won’t open. I don’t know if this will help you, but when I click the GW2 icon on my dock after I’ve launched the game, (and it’s come up invisible), just hitting return seems to magically make it pop up again.

This lack of communication, and any care in the world for mac players is pretty insulting.
That’s because maybe you didn’t know, but, this is probably the 4th or 5th thread that gets this many pages of mac users begging for some help and they just ignore, all the other threads get burried under the windows one.
I’m so tired of this crap honestly, i’m about to go on my 4th break of gw2 because it’s so stressful to play this game. Everytime I play it i can’t enjoy myself and it reminds me that i put money into this game, all because of false advertisement….
Tell me about it. I literally can’t do Dragon’s Stand or the Verdant Brink meta without crashing, and thus losing the map.
There goes a pretty big portion of this “challenging group content”

I actually can’t even do the Dragon Stand boss without crashing at least once. And often times, that means I lose the map, can’t get back in, and GG there goes two hours.
Quick, someone link that how-to video. Maybe I’ll work this time.
I want the shield too.
This is lame. I don’t even feel like logging on anymore.
So nothing?
Nawp.
You get nothing!
Last Gem Store update was 3 weeks ago and we didnt get anything in the gem store last 2 tuesdays.
Yeah they’ve even been cutting back on gem shop updates.
Historically, when they’ve "missed patchdays", something big has released. (Specializations, big events, etc) But I’m not really sure what’s going on right now.
I’m surprised there aren’t more people going “ermergerd just because they’ve released content/updates/gemshop stuff just about every tuesday for the past forever doesnt mean you get to have that stuff omg so entitled #tumblr”
ewwwwww….. imagine the abuse and massive flood of Logan/Rytlock yoai fan fiction.
To be fair, there’s already a lot of that in CoE story.
heh heh heh
They should bring back Aetherized at least. I mean c’mon. There’s less than ten (guestimate) on the trade post right now. And no one in their right mind is gonna buy something like the Aetherized Greatsword for 3000g.
My guess is they’re gonna just do something about mesmers being able to 1-shot people from stealth.
Though honestly it’s not just mesmer that’s a bit over the top right now. Burn guard can knock you down stupid fast if you’re not closely watching conditions, warrior’s got about a million auto-activated defenses, sword ranger is surprisingly strong, etc. I wouldn’t be surprised if the way things are balanced now is right about where we’re gonna end up staying.
Honestly the only build that is more or less a non-issue for me these days is LB ranger.
and stealthing off of every steal with quickness….man it’s soooooo fun.
This statement alone says you do not actually play a thief with any regularity. Stealth on steal has been broken for many months now. You go into instant reveal. you would know this if you had actually played thief with that skill in the last 5/6 months.
Only way the skill can work, is if you turn face so the opponent is behind you, then hit steal. If you land right, the auto attack won’t reveal you. More then 50% though, you are revealed.
Turn…
off…
autoattack…?
O_o?
Conditions now are the best reason why Anet should split PvP and PvE balance. I don’t understand why they just don’t do this. “Oh we don’t wanna split the community” isn’t exactly a valid reason. The community is already fairly separated as it is when it comes to people hanging out in LA versus HotM
In PvP, I agree with most of what you said.
In PvE, if you make condi builds weaker than zerker, but tankier, everyone will run zerker because this game is largely very easy. Tank isn’t entirely neccessary for a large chunk of its content. It’ll just be more efficient to run berserker, and that’s what everyone will go back to.
Condi damage is largely fine. There are some weird ones where Elementalist can burst someone with 17 stacks of burning and tick for 7k damage. Considering what Meteor Shower does, that’s not… entirely outrageous, just a bit over the top maybe.
On my guardian, I’m lucky to maintain 10 stacks of burning with burning duration runes, sigils, and food. I can get bursts of burning stacks that high, but they don’t last very long. Unless I’m doing something terribly wrong…
Anyways, Resistance is a thing that’s not entirely there yet. I figure a lot of world bosses are gonna start getting Resistance or something, or maybe a form of defiance that weakens condis as they stack up. Because let’s be honest, 20 second Shatterer fights are hilariously silly.
I’ve tried to change the asset server, but on mac it’s kind of difficult. There’s not really any indication of how to do it. So far I’ve got this round-about terminal command that will open it when I end it with -assetsrv, but if I put a server ip in, it just tells me it can’t find it.
Oh well… I guess I’m stuck with an 18hr download unless it speeds up sometime in the early morning.
