WvW exploiter, used "botting" option

Thanks for these answers.

About the matter if my issue was or was not covered enough – yes, for any average programmer it was covered really well enough. The game server should cache all things – positions, all text anyone anytime write in any game chat and all skill actions – for some time (or even indefinitely) in a database (like it is in other MMOs), and when a programmer write script which will search that database and mark all timestamps when “shortbow-5 skill” were used by this and that character between this and that time interval (that’s reason why i wrote an roughly estimated time when the exploit happened), they can quickly checks starting and ending locations of that skill, so catch that abuser very easily and quickly.

Personally, this was a very rare situation when i report someone, because if a famous game developer of a world-wide known MMO don’t create an easy method for reporting (or even informing enemies that they are using non-allowed ingame interactions), its for me a clear sign that the developer actually don’t care much about exploits being reported. For example in the MMO “Planetside 2”, im almost everytime whisper the enemy player like this : “hello, you are using an exploit, shooting through our spawn room energy shields is abusing a bug, stop that or i will report you to gamemasters”. Actually, two times they stopped that, so its a proof that even informing enemies about the fact of their exploiting can be better and more effective than just straightly and immediately ban them without any thinking about situation.

On the other side, in GW2, i cannot whisper enemies (well, it was possible once, an year ago in EotM map, didn’t tried that again anymore) – so again, it seems like ANet don’t care much about abusing exploits anyway. Well, so i should probably go back to my usual habit of not report anyone, even these speedhacking/blink-porting (basically the same effect as “lag-wizards”) warriors distracting ppl from our compact zerg, personally its not worth those 20 minutes of checking universal UTC time, location, describing situation etc – they even dont kill anyone after all, just distract ppl, so not that much harm to gameplay .. not worth to lost time to reporting.

Anyway, i thank both of you again for your time to reply to my post.

Date: 24 / July / 2017
Time: around 14:25 UTC
Map: Eternal Battleground (Gandara vs Augury vs Seafarer matchup)

I reported a thief using well-known (but still not fixed) shortbow 5 movement exploit to get into otherwise normally unreachable locations in WvW game mode, but i have to use inaccurate “botting” option, which i thought was the closest report option to exploiting.

BTW:
Do I really have to write such forum topic like this one EVERYTIME i reported some exploiter to avoid me myself being punished from Arena Net for not precisely selecting the proper reporting reason? Do i really have to write this forum explanation (and screenshot it as a proof for eventual future lawsuit action in court if some Arena Net dude really ban my account for inaccurate reporting option) that i did not actually reported botting, but exploiting, and precisely explain why i used the wrong “botting” report option?

Cannot Arena Net just simply add “exploiting” option to report dialogue window even after 4 years? Or, even better, add a small text window where player can explain a little bit more about the reported action?

Bug Date: multiple times, last time around 11:40 UTC 24. June 2017
Game Mode: WvW
Map: Eternal Battleground
Bug type: Graphical – Character visibility disappear

When I leave an Omega Golem, I become bugged (my entire character disappear, all I can see is just only small circular “shadow” bellow my character). Happen already at least three times for me. If it helps, heres some details: im necromancer, NOT using shroud when i enter golem, NOT using anything which changes character appearance (tonics, etc). Full golem WvW mastery. Bug seems to be repeatable after some game patch, happen everytime when i leave omega (didnt tried with alpha). Nothing helps, for bug fix i need to relog entire game – annoying to wait in queues nowadays.

Asked other ppl , they see me normally, so it seems visibility of my character is bugged only for me, not for others.

I am from SFR, but if I should vote only for one most unforgettable commander, it would be Troma from enemy server Vizunah Square. What he did with Vizunah ppl in first WvW Season 1 tournament was fantastic. (Vizunah won all rounds in that season, never been 2nd or 3rd so it was an unbeaten WvW Season 1 Champion.)

OP, it seems like you wanna kill the WvW mode even faster than its already dying, because almost all changes ANet did in WvW were from bad to even worse. Oh wait, to be honest during the WvW history I can remember one map design change that was actually a good one – deleting the “valley” and bridge at Quentin Lake in EBG.

This topic is one of the very few occasions when I am actually happy that WvW developers abandon their own official game forum. (Well, if there are any WvW developers at all. According to official Arena Net announcement that WvW will be the priority after HoT expansion, one can easily start think there are none of them.)

Is GW2 Worth Getting Into? (2017)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Faenar.8036

Faenar.8036

The answer to your question depends of what you are most enjoying in GW2.

PvE and/or Story:
One of the best MMOs I know about, definitely worth to stay here and enjoy literally hundreds of hours in various maps, finding secret places, unfolding great and deep storyline etc. Also new content is added more frequently than in other MMOs.

structured PvP:
Game mode I do not have expert knowledge about, but I can say this: Arena Net don’t have any clue what class balance means, especially when you compare HoT (Heart of Thorns =expansion pack) classes with pre-HoT classes.

World vs World vs World (called WvW):
Throughout the years, Arena Net basically always chose the worst possible option how to … ermm, “improve” … WvW gameplay. Even Electronic Arts and Ubisoft are known for better communication with their customers and implementing players ideas and suggestions than ANet WvW staff. Enough said. Result of this? Most WvW communities are dead, WvW mode and its playerbase is slowly dying, many experienced players left the game or play just ocasionally until Camelot Unchained/Crowfall goes to betatest.

TL;DR:
PvE: stay here and stick to GW2, one of the best PvE/Story MMO nowadays
everything else: Not worth to stay here. uninstall GW2, start looking for something better

Did GW2 lose its identity?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Faenar.8036

Faenar.8036

Back at the days when GW2 was still in betatest phase, it was advertised (of course among many other words) as a “Game of Freedom”. Freedom to do what you want, freedom to walk where you want, freedom to change your armor style/colors etc. Now, more and more aspects of the game are either time-gated (i.e. crafting) or locked behind elite content (i.e. legendary armor from Raids). But thats not the main change. The worst change is that more and more things are NON-tradeable (account-bound or even soul-bound). This is a huge loss for the game freedom and enjoyment.

A game where you cannot trade half of your inventory is not “Game of Freedom” anymore.

Bannering the Lord

Faenar.8036

In first matchup of first WvW tournament, there was a moment when Seafarer’s Rest EBG Keep (green) was double-team sieged by both Vizunah Square and Piken Square working together, Vizu attacking from north-eastern gate, Piken attacking from broken wall Jerrifer side. Both sides had at least 5 Arrow Carts, but SFR was still able to banner-rezzing Keep Lord for more than 1,5 hours, until our commander told us to stop it, let them cap our Keep, and regroup in homeborder to do something else.

From this point of view, I think bringing back banner-rezzing is not a good idea, otherwise any Keep/Garrison can probably be flipped only in ghostcap night-time (or if defenders are greatly outnumbered) scenario, not even mention Stonemist Castle. So there is a real possibility that no one will even try to attack any Keep, so WvW will become more boring and with less fights.

WvW borderland rotation poll

Faenar.8036

This is a classical example of a “tendentious poll”, a method well known in propaganda. ArenaNet intentionally do not include the option “No DBL at all”, so the poll result will be more towards ANet demanded option (force DBL to stay in the game).

So in reality, this is not a poll what WvW playerbase wants, this is just a comic opera and wasting of WvW players time. Thx ArenaNet for reassuring me that you do not care about what WvW playerbase wants, you just care only about your own wishes.

What if anet replace EB with eotm map?

Faenar.8036

“What if anet replace EB with eotm map?”
Well… They would solve the queue problem…
And CU and crowfall would get more preorders…

^ This.
And in fact, this will happen even without this change. I have talked with some WvW (I mean normal WvW, NOT EotM) players and commanders on my server and many of them answered me exactly the same thing: “ANet finally did a killing blow to WvW, so Im just waiting until Camelot Unchained or Crowfall get at least into Beta-phase, then I will immediatelly pre-order it and then bye bye GW2, Hello CU/Crowfall”.

So their answers just strengthen my own thoughts that ANet already “succesfully” killed one of their game mode and also confirmed that my own solution to this problem is the right thing: Move to spend my money in another game where developers actually listen to their playerbase. And as I see in your post, this tendency to move to other games with developers listening to playerbase is even more spread across WvW community than I thought.

(Personally, I prefer Camelot Unchained)

This is definitely not a “thread necromancy” at all. You should realize that HoT was released on October 23, so it is already TWO-MONTHS-old gamebreaking bug for many WvW players which now feels really scammed according to this whole thread and these confusing statements/rumors/whatever 1) it is a bug, will be fixed “soon”™, 2)not a bug, working as intended, 3) we are looking for a solution etc…

And don’t even try to tell me that business company with that high profit like ANet have doesn’t have resources to fix crucial expansion pack feature for WvW players after TWO MONTHS since it was reported.

It shouldn’t require HoT thoug,

Agree.

But even if the “Autoloot-working-in-WvW” thingy will require HoT, it will still probably persuade me to buy that expansion. Otherwise, as a mostly WvW-only player, I do not see any major feature in HoT interesting enough to justify that expansion is worth to buy for me.

P.S.: Yeah, I know that without HoT expansion, I cannot use a Shield Generator, but this fact alone doesn’t make HoT worth to buy for me, its only a minor disgust.

Or were these all small mistakes that, when put together, created an unpredictable perfect storm of fail?

All these small and big mistakes is probably the right answer. After more than 3 years of playing GW2 (right from beta), personally I think Anet don’t care about WvW at all. In fact, it sometimes seems like they even want to completely destroy this strategic game mode and change it to another casual-friendly easy-mode map (for example removing upgrades and implementing autoupgrades without needed supplies). It seems like they have 2 main target player audience: 1) PvE casuals (and in this case, I think GW2 is probably best MMO game nowadays for these players), and 2) ranked-sPvP enthusiasts (Anet is trying hard for whole 3 years right from beta to constantly advertise this game mode, they are praying that sPvP will become an e-Sport, and they want it to be as reputable and world-wide known as for example League of Legends).

As for WvW game mode itself, I don’t believe that Anet will recover WvW to be again a game mode suitable for strategy and tactic enthusiasts. A map where you can kill other players? Yes, you are still able to do that in WvW. A map where you can precisely plan your strategy, for example wreaking havoc in enemy supply lines to deny your enemies to be able to improve their last stronghold with cannons and mortars, and many other big strategies and small group tactics? Not anymore.

Faenar.8036

1) WvW rewards are terribly bad to be honest
2) agree
3) agree
4) disputable, probably depends on which server you play

Generally, GW2 is game for casual players, not hardcore players, so personally I see only one reason for playing WvW -> because you like massive PvP with sieging enemy fortresses in a fantasy-themed MMORPG game. Thats all. Otherwise you really do not have any benefits when you finally capture an enemy castle, and your guild don’t obtain anything valuable for it (in fact, your guild do not obtain anything at all for capturing enemy castle, even when the name of game itself is “GUILD wars 2”). Technically WvW is meaningless battle arena, just a little bigger than 5v5. There are VERY FEW mmo games which have precisely developed and rewarding open-world mass PvP, and GW2 is not one of them.

GW2 is imho just story-oriented PvE game (and don’t get me wrong, in this aspect GW2 is awesome MMO game, in fact probably best I have seen in the last 10 years), with two battle arenas for ppl who wanna “kill” other players – one for sPvP, second for WvW.

And btw if you have good friends to play WvW with (especially if you are communicating with each others on Teamspeak), it means a whole new dimension of gameplay enjoyment, when compared to just a single-player GW2 PvE gameplay experience.

Separate PvE from WvWvW Players (Full Server)

in WvW

Posted by: Faenar.8036

Faenar.8036

This suggestion is very bad for me, because I almost periodically play in the manner “2 months play, 2 months break, and then again 2 months play etc”. Second fact is that I am proud of being a part of Seafarer’s Rest WvW (#1 EU server) since game release (and I never transfered anywhere else), to be more precise even from 3-day headstart before game release, and after I finished PvE content (map completion etc), I play almost entirely only WvW mode, with a few exceptions like when I want some nice PvE things like a nice skin or for example Sinister atribute insignia/inscription.

So even if I did a lot of things for SFR, you want me to be disassociated forever from my trusted SFR WvW community only because I play periodically with breaks and because somewhere will appear a mark “full”? Btw where would you associate me then? To Kodash, or Vabbi, or where?

Thanks for your suggestion, I maybe understand your reasons for it, but my vote is “No”.

how many ppl can join on 1 wvw border?

in WvW

Posted by: Faenar.8036

Faenar.8036

I am not sure about Borderlands, but for Eternal Battlegrounds for blue side it seems to be something around 80 players. So it should be the same for all WvW maps. Although as ppl said above, ANET never tell us any exact numbers so it is only a guess from what we see in game.

Maybe for more precise number, it would be a good idea to start capturing a video recording a little bit before you get into WvW map at the time of WvW reset, then stop recording when ppl on Teamspeak starts calling “there is a queue, I cannot get into WvW now” , and then afterward replaying that video and do a player counting. If you get into WvW very quickly (in a second or two) after reset, it shouldn’t be too much hard because at WvW reset, all players on map are concentrated around single spawnpoint.

Commander focus meta needs fix

in WvW

Posted by: Faenar.8036

Faenar.8036

To be honest, I don’t see any problem with commander sniping at all. Just to inform some players here: at the times when the game was launched, no one had commander tags because they costed 100 gold and rich players had 70 silvers in their inventories. But we was still able to fight very precisely and organized. Todays “follow the color pin” easy-mode is just a simplified method of organized fighting developed to be easy enough to be understandable even for casual players with no experience how to fight cooperatively.

Oh, and in before someone will say “omg what??? zerg need a tanky guardian/warrior commander with color pin infront of them to know where to move O.o” … no, that is not true. We had range-classes commanders (with or even without tag) located in our back line too and we was still able to fight and win. It just needs players willing to come to TeamSpeak/Ventrilo/other voice communication application and willing to actually and quickly obey commander’s orders.

WvW Passive Upgrade System….[DISCUSS]

in WvW

Posted by: Faenar.8036

Faenar.8036

Here’s what Anet should have asked from the start:
“What do you, the comunity, think of this idea?
What changes, if any, would you as the comunity like to see?”

If I remember correctly, there was only one case since beta when ANET really care about players thoughts and actually asked players community what they want – an ingame event called “Captain’s Council election” where developers let GW2 playerbase to decide a winner – (Evon Gnashblade vs Ellen Kiel, 52% of players voted for Ellen Kiel). So don’t expect this attitude from ANET too much, you would be disapointed.

Make keeps worth 15 points at T1 , 20 points at T2, and 25 points at T3. Towers can go from 5 to 10 and SM can go from 25 to 35.

This is an excellent idea!
+1 for this one

WvW Passive Upgrade System….[DISCUSS]

in WvW

Posted by: Faenar.8036

Faenar.8036

When I first read about Guild Wars 2, it was almost a dream for a tactic and strategy enthusiast: “Even a single roamer can play very important role for his server if he breaks enemy supply line to prevent enemy tower from upgrading. There is a logistic strategy part in the game”.

New “WvW improvement” patch: camp->tower/keep supply line don’t play role into upgrading objectives anymore, they will upgrade automatically over time no matter if a supply line exist or not, it will just take more time.

<irony> Am I understanding it correctly that you are ripping an important strategy aspect from the game strategy mode(=World vs World)? That’s exactly what WvW-oriented playerbase is crying over 2 years, great job ANET! Keep up the good work! </irony>

TL;DR:
upgrades cost 0 gold – good idea
upgrades cost 0 supply – more or less “not good” idea
automatic upgrades – bad idea
upgrades will continue (and will finish) no matter if supply line from camp exist at all – terrible idea

What makes you a judge, what kind of evidences – acces to game’s code ? game server logs ?

You probably misunderstand the purpose of report option. I am not a judge, ArenaNet game administrator is a judge, report dialogue serve as an option to alert ArenaNet staff to something very suspicious they should investigate. It does not work as “I am judge, he is hacker, ban him”. I just miss these two options in report dialogue to better identify the reason for reporting, thats all.

Anyway, I use my brain and common sense before I report anything. I am playing right from headstart of GW2 and still I used report option only for maybe 3 or 4 times, I don’t abuse it for some kind of dishonourable revenge . If you will see two thieves right around 10 meters infront of Stonemist inner gate, and then after few seconds you see the same two thieves “jumped up” on the wall inside inner Stonemist and killing the castle lord and capping it, despite the fact that each inner Stonemist gates were at 100% health, what you would think about it? That just a miracle happened? Oh c’mon, keep in mind that character movement is client-side (=easy to hack), and I use report option only when I have serious reason for that, I am not trolling or joking. By the way, when I write about it on map chat, other players confirmed they saw them and reported them too…

I hope this explanation sufficiently answer your question.

Hello, I am missing two things in the “report dialogue window”, where fair-play customers can report non-fair-play customers. ( For more info why I am missing them, feel free to read this topic about hacking accident which happened yesterday here https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/WvW-walljump-hack-into-Stonemist-Castle/first#post4561929 )

At this moment, report dialogue window have only these options:
1)botting
2)inappropriate character name
3)spamming
4)verbal abuse
5)scamming
6)selling gold
7)LFG system abuse

First suggestion:
It would be good to add at least these two other options:
8)hacking/exploiting
9)other abuse (which is not specially mentioned above)

Second suggestion:
In many online games I played, there is also a second section in report dialogue window, where you can write a small description (usually with character limit 1000 letters) where you can further describe any usefull information about the reported activity (for example exact location or improved description of abusive activity). I think it would be a good improvement if GW2 report dialogue window have this text section too.

WvW walljump hack into Stonemist Castle

This evening I saw 2 thiefs from Kodash server repeatedly using “walljump hack” to get into Stonemist Castle lordroom: Stonemist inner was absolutely not broken anywhere, and I clearly saw them when they “jumped” up on the wall. Unfortunatelly ArenaNet dont give fair-play people the possibility to easy identify WvW enemy names/accounts, so I dont know their account names so I was able to report only one of them. I used “botting report” because there was not any “hacking” option.

For easier identify in server activity logs-
location: near Stonemist south inner gate
date: October 15 2014
time: 0:26AM GMT+1
match: Seafarers Rest vs Elona Reach vs Kodash

1) Why there is no possibility to see enemy names to identify them when they use hacks?
2) Why there is no possibility to target dead bodies to identify their account names when they catched at hacking?
3) Why there is no “hacking” or “other abuse” option in report dialogue window?

ArenaNet, show how you treat hacking in your game and give us these possibilities. Thanks
