I agree with you. Anet is definitely making their stance shown about alts. Fortunately the ascended bonuses only effect PvE but give it time and I am sure ascended gear will have a +% to players add on in which things will get even worse.
It’s been 9 months since GW2 came out and very little content has been added to WvW and in turn WvW is getting stagnant. Servers are fighting the same servers over and over for week long matches with nothing to show for it at the end of the week. General tactics have evolved into follow the commander and take unprotected bases while occasionally fighting the enemy zerg.
I think a gameplay dynamic to bring some life back into WvW would be to add server relics to each of the WvW maps. There is a ton of lore in the world of Guild Wars so it should be easy to come up with some relics from the histories that give a server a sense of pride in holding it. These relics would start at the safe outposts in each of battlegrounds and at the start of a new match up would be placed by a Commander in one keep or tower. The goal would be to defend that relic from falling into enemy hands. The longer a relic is held then the bigger the bonus that entire server gains at all times. These could be expanded on from the existing WvW bonuses like an even further increase in gold find, karma gain or magic find.
This would give a strong incentive to fortify the keep that the relic is located in and to defend it at all costs from being taken by an enemy server. If a relic is taken it would act like how the Orbs of Power were before they were removed. You have x amount of time to take it to a keep or tower of your choosing and place it there to defend.
Another interesting dynamic would be to allow captured relics to be kept after a server reset by the server that holds it. The only way to retrieve a lost relic after a match up had ended would be to fight that server again and try to take back the relic.
Obviously any ideas need to be expanded on but we need something to bring more server pride into the game, something to mix up the dynamics of WvW a little bit and something to bring more PvE players into WvW.
Better and more PvP options like balancing how WvW matches up servers better by looking at player numbers during certain times rather than last weeks score. Adding random arenas without objectives and adding Guild vs Guild battles.
Better drops (not better stats) from NPC’s especially boss mobs in dungeons. Give them a chance to drop ultra rare versions of the dungeon armor and weapons with additional looks or effects. Maybe even a chance to drop legendary weapons.
Add many of the Mystic Forge recipe weapons to the loot tables for world champion mobs with a small chance to drop.
Hiring more people in the art department to continually come up with new armor and weapon looks that can be found from world drops. We have “named” sets in game like Mhenlo’s armor http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Mhenlo%27s_Armor_Set but it looks no different than the level 70 range exotic set.
A level 80 story line should be added and it should be a throwback to GW1. Take away our pre 80 choices of race, background and faction and give us an awesome story to play through like what we had in GW1. Many of us want something engaging that takes us to places that may be a work in progress (a few quests in an outpost in Elona, or one district in the Dominion of Winds for example). These places aren’t finished and will probably be in an expansion but these level 80 story lines could give us a taste of what is to come and a peak of the incredible lore in the world of Guild Wars.
There are already plenty of things to expand on for the endgame. It sort of feels that everything was put in the game half way done and they are wondering why it’s not working so their next plan is to introduce a gear treadmill.
Where are our mission challenges from GW1? Where are the really hard mobs from GW1? Where are the unique named “green” items from named bosses from GW1? Why does GW1 offer more PvP options?
I’m biased because I posted my opinion but just a few of my ideas could be expanded on and introduced to the game to offer an “endgame” without a gear treadmill. We were promised a game without grind and without a carrot on a stick and sadly it looks like the developers have changed their minds.
Edit: The new dungeon sounds great honestly, but the whole issue we have at hand could have been prevented by copying the gear infusion from GW1. You can even make the infusion process change the gear color to pink so people can show off their PvE Fractals of the Mists infused Exotic gear that doesn’t include a gear with better stats but still allows players to venture further and further into the dungeon.

I have an 80 Ranger and an 80 Engineer and I regret my choice in making a Ranger. The Engineer can do everything the Ranger can do but is is more fun.
Remove maximum number of targets that an arrow cart can hit, and possibly increase damage. Arrow carts are supposed to be anti zerg weapons.
Smaller parties can spread out more easily and avoid the arrows, larger groups cannot spread as effectively and many more will get hit. Right now a few arrow carts doesn’t phase a zerg and that should not be the case.
It’s not cheating.
The level scaling bumps your stats up, but you will never be as powerful as a true level 80.
Here are a few examples why.
*You don’t have access to all your traits which can add a ton of points to your stats
*Your gear doesn’t add to three different stats (only available starting at level 60)
The reason your thief in the mists isn’t getting these outrageously high attack numbers is because the dummies you are fighting actually have better stats than a level 16 player in WvW. You can’t get an accurate measure on what your attacks can do when you by comparing those two like that.
Thieves may or may not need to be tuned down a bit, but the correct way to balance something like this is with actual level 80 characters.
This is coming from someone whose thief is only level 22, but I have a few other level 80 characters, and I may or may not level him to 80.
I get the same thing on any character trying to load into Divinity’s Reach or Queensdale. It just happened today. This still occurs even after doing the automatic game repair. If you have fast internet I would say just redownload the client, but for me it would take a very long time at 300kb/s.
