Really nice paper, although i enjoy the kitten out of dredge with a good party ^^
It is safe, no nerf………….
A++ for the party chat.
It is going to be everything you ever imagined it would be.
Also… Go catch Scarlett
The answer is obviously subjective, but still…
Nothing beats two enigneers(i mean fun wise). And in PvE they kill fast as well. WvW roaming is very fun if you know each other and have communication.
Warrior+warrior is a good combo, but not fun at all, imho.
Most of the time i play with my friend(wvw roaming). I play ele(might stacking and healing power) and he plays a balanced warr. So far it has been a blast.
Don’t attack people with retaliation.
My argument stands. Elementalist is not a joke anywhere.
The factor of FUN is totally subjective and thus should not be the basis of any argument.
The best thing to do is is try it for yourself. Take every opinion with a grain of salt.
Try some builds from subforums(mesmer and elemntalist) if you don’t want to come up with your own and make your assumptions from there.
I main an ele and i can assure you that ele is definitely not a joke in any part of the game.
I also have a lvl 80 mesmer. And to answer your question then mesmer is very useful in wvw(more so than elementalist). But in wvw their playstyle differs. Mesmer in a zerg is the guy who lays down null fields and makes portals and veils. He is more a supportive rather than combat derived character. Outside of zerg mesmer can be a deadly roamer if played correctly. Staff mesmers clones are better than most other clones he can produce.
Elementalist(staff) in a wvw zerg is on of the best ranged characters you can have. He has long range attacks, big aoe and useful fields. Outside of zerg elementalist can be a good roamer but only with the right builds.
So for zerg wvw their roles are different. For roaming wvw, mesmers have more reliable builds but they both can do it.
As for pve:
Mesmers are sometimes favored to certain paths in dungeons (cof p1, coe p2) for their quickness buff and portal.
Elementalist have more varied role in Pve starting from healing power and cleansing and might stacking to raw damage.
Outside of dungeons i find elementalist easier to play for their out of combat speed(constant speed buff with most of the builds). Also they have more aoe which is crucial in pve.
Again it all comes down to your preferences. Don’t believe people who say one certain class is crap to others.

Rejected unanimously by the GW1 veterans.
You can’t speak for someone else. It’s bull.
On topic: i wouldn’t like a level cap increase
Then our play style is different. I buy armor satchels and weapons for my low level toons. And i enjoy it. I don’t do it angrily. For me it’s more realistic as well. I wouldn’t understand if the armor my sylvari once wore, suddenly fitted to my charr as well.
You pretty much answered your own rant.
If there is no soulbound then the demand of items goes down. Soulbound is there to keep the demand up and make selling items semi-profitable.
I’m not sure what you mean by “behind” in dungeons. But ele was very easy to level in PvE. I never had a problem when running the dungeons(levelled my elementalist to frac lvl 28 and also ran Arah enough times for a full set).It all depends on you’r skill level.
As for engineer, I’m not so experienced. I have had him at level 80 for a long time. I am currently rediscovering him(mostly in Wvw). I remember running Sorrow Furnace and Fractals with him frequently, with no problems. Again, it all depends on you skill level.
Elementalist can dish out reasonable damage, but imo his main use in Dungeons is healing and cond. clearing. As for engineer i found that his cookiecutter grenade build was best for PvE. In wvw it’s a different story.
All inn all, both are very fun to play and you shouldn’t have any problems in dungeons.
Thank you guys for the indepth answers. The first build is a mistake, it should have same utilities and weapons as the second one. meaning pistol-pistol, bombs, toolkit and rocketboots. THe only difference between the builds is the armour (should i take carrion or rabid, for a roaming cond. build w bombs and toolkit).
Hello,
I recently picked up my engineer again(was my first character to reach 80, which happened about 8 months ago). The next two days were very enjoyable. I finished the gauntlet and was roaming around in Wvw, enjoying engineers unpredictable combat(comparing with an elementalist or a mesmer). Or maybe it was something else, doesn’t matter really.
What matters is that i decided to beef up my engineer and devote more time to him. Until now he had knight’s gear and was throwing ‘nades. Now I’m more inclined on condition dealing, rather than direct damage.
Thus I am looking advice on gear to wear.
Here they are:
The difference is only armor and one trait(Explosives VII vs. V).
But the stat allocation is quite different.
What build would be best to bring to Wvw roaming? I tend to avoid zergs and usually run around alone or with a friend capping camps and harassing other roamers.
Also, thank you for Wolfrar for the build.

All those skills are available between Mesmer and Elementalist, also Necromancer. Isn’t it better that they have managed to create 3 different professions, rather than one generic mage?
I don’t see any point in this…
Mono teams usually tend to do well..
I have had two instances with only elementalists in team(8v8) and we won both games pretty fast.
I think the reason is that you understand the syneriges pretty well if you are playing in the same team with same professions. Especially as it is hot-join the level of players is pretty low and those synerigeis come over the top.
I’m pretty sure that in tpvp a group of necros(5v5) would be slaughtered pretty fast. That said i have never played against a mono team in tpvp, so i am just guessing.
So imo it is not a “proof” that necros are op, same would have happen with any mono team imo(in hot-join of course)
Would definately love a video of this build as well, looks very interesting.
Engineer – 80
Elementalist – 80
Warrior – 77
Necromancer – 20
