It’s very true what the OP said: if you try to level up two very similar skills that share the fine materials and even the more mundane materials, you’re going to end up in a situation where you got to spend tons of time in an effort of keeping them both going.
However, crafting is pretty rewarding once the leveling period is done with. It was a gold sink for me all the way up to 400/400, but been a profit ever since. I can even buy all the materials from the TP and still turn a decent profit (something like 30 silvers per sold exotic item even after reducing the listing and selling costs that TP takes).
As far as I know, there’s 5 nodes of orichalcum on Cursed Shore, 4 nodes on Malchor’s Leap, and at least 2 nodes on Frostgorge (might be more, I don’t really go there much). The spawns stay static for a good while if the server stays up. The node respawn timer is somewhere close to 5 hours. Every time there’s a new patch, or something similar, the nodes move and you need to search them again.
I’ve however noted that the movements aren’t totally random, as each node seems to have certain area on which it can spawn. So you don’t really have to comb the entire map every time.
Same logic would probably work on ancient wood as well.
I’ve got the tallest possible Asura male, and If i park it next to some human (used multiple ones of different sizes to get general idea), I’d say the height is just slightly bellow 4ft. The 3ft for smallest sounds about right as well.
And if I had to pick my character up, I’d assume it’d be something like 100-110lbs (again, pretty much the largest possible). Smallest ones could easily be around 60-70lbs.
Discovery tab is where the magic happens. What you want to do at start of each new ingredient tier (0-75 is the first tier with copper ore etc) is to craft all your materials to ingots, bars, planks, etc. This will get you some levels. Then proceed to make insignias or inscriptions out of the fine crafting materials.
Once you have the insignias and inscriptions done, make the base parts of the weapon/armor. If you have for example 4 berserker insignias, make 4 different 2-part armor components (armor and casing), and then go to discovery tab to combine the 3 parts of the item.

Anyone else using hammer as their weapon of choice? I switched to hammer somewhere around level 60 to try it out in comparison to the more popular greatsword, and was really impressed with with powers it provide. When I later on switched back to GS, it felt like a total downgrade to the power table.
It might not deal damage as hard as the GS, as there aren’t as many traits related to hammer damage as there is to GS, but the interrupt, knockdown and weakness give unreal survivability in PvE when running solo, and the utility in groups is really nice as well.
I guess I’m mostly looking for your insight into this weapon that isn’t really widely used. What are the reasons why it’s not more popular than it is, is it really lot worse as damage weapon compared to GS and possibly axe/axe, etc.
Afro is the only way to go.
One of my guildmates loot Dusk from Veteran Scount on WvW, so it’s not only rare drop from event chest but overall rare world drop.
Good to know that it’s on those loot tables as well, rather than just the chests.
So only armour not weapons?
Thanks for the quick replies!
Any salvageable rares or exotics of 70+ to my knowledge have the possibility to drop them on salvage attempt. Just note that rares have far lesser chance of it, since the globs are exotic materials, and I believe you need to hit the 25% chance on master’s kit to even get them from rares.

You salvage exotics and rares of level 70+ with best quality salvaging kits you can get your hands on (master’s). These attempts yield 1-3 globs.
I have to agree. As an asura warrior my initial storyline experience was kinda funny: I bashed stuff to get things done with a hammer, and all the cutscenes were about inventions, about being a genius with no peers. I guess I got what I deserved for breakng the canon. It was however mildly amusing and ok story. Nothing spectacular, but ok.
Things went on, joined the Vigil, and it appeared to fit my warrior class far better with kicking doors down and solving things with brute force. Still OK, nothing super great, but decent. I however really disliked however how fast I climbed the ranks in the order from mere recruit into warmaster in couple of quests.
Then came Claw Island, and things simply got out of hand fast.
My order got attacked, and apparently they were so incompetent in their defense, that they required my personal help to get some catapults firing and saving the day. Surely the Vigil is large and powerful enough to not rely on my character so completely. It’s ok to have such event where the Order is in threat, but the solution was terrible.
Then to get Claw Island back, and instead of helping to build a huge army for it, I’m sent to find single persons to aid the effort. Surely you jest?
The whole combining the orders was totally cheesy “together we can achieve great things”.
Rest I don’t even want to bother remembering. The general tone of it was bad storywriting that could have been far better if it wasn’t aimed for audience that has troubles following bit more complicated storylines.
Is there no recipe? Surely there must be.
To my knowledge there is no recipe besides a possible recipe of materials to be used on mystic forge to accurately get the item. And like stated that is currently unknown even if it did exist.
This is also the reason why the “of rage” exotics sell for considerably higher gold amount than the similar other weapons that can be crafted.
You can kinda predict which materials you get from which mobs by looking at the thing. Does it have scales? If yes, good chance that it drops scales. Does it regenerate, or seem to be really healthy type? It probably drops blood vials. Sure sometimes you won’t get what you expect, but in most cases it’s pretty accurate.
My pick at after hitting 80 was to spend some gold on buying a set of magic find (explorer’s) rares from TP, and socket them with traveler’s and pirate (major ones, as I was poor, and they’re significantly cheaper than superiors), and bunch of masterwork explorer’s jewelry with opal gems. With the consumable omnom bars that boost magic and gold find for 30 minutes you can hit easily and rather cheaply above +100% magic find.
Now I’m using this setup to get the so called end game gear, while having a respectable magic find to make a ton of money while at it.
I felt that the copper stage of my armorsmithing was by far the hardest. Maybe it had to do with the fact that I was totally new to the game, and had no clue really how to go about getting things done.
It wasn’t that bad in the end to get to 400. At some times I had help from friends (mostly cloth scraps, and occational fine materials), sometimes I just had to go farm certain mobs for an hour to get a stack for 50 (like you get vials of blood from skales, trolls, minotaurs, etc). When I had accumulated some money I just simply bought these materials from TP.
It’s a bit of a money sink. I probably spent close to 5 golds total on it from 1-400, but it’s still quite reasonable.
It’s a good thing that the legendaries are really really hard to obtain. They’re no better weapons than exotics, just usually far better looking skins on them. Something for those to work for who commit to the game, and eventually get rewarded for it. I’ll probably never get one if those requirements hold true, and that’s fine by me.
There’re currently two known ways of obtaining these exotic weapons that can be converted later on to legendary items. First one is to put 4 rare or exotic weapons on the mystic forge (in dusk and dawn case greatswords) and hope for the best. Second one is to get it as a “drop” from event chests in 80 zones.
It’s also quite possible that there is a more viable way to get them, like making them in mystic forge with spesific ingredients, but as of now I haven’t heard that anyone found out about these.
So, you either try your luck, or get the needed gold to buy them from trading post.
