Laurels as map completion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

He means 15 laurels for one map, which is just insane.

laurels are meant for daily/monthly to keep people playing, they are not being added to anything else.

also, adding extra rewards to map completion per map just creates another grind. speedrun queensdale for 100% map completion etc.

I think it’s fine as it is, just some extra small reward upon map completion.

Please stop spreading fake data about how GW2 is just behind WoW.

WoW is measured in active subscriptions and GW2 is measured in sales. Games likes GW2 and League of Legends are hard to measure with a subscription based game.

Both LoL and GW2 post data about “active” players that should really taken with a grain of salt, because the definition of an active player is vague.

It’s blatantly obvious that WoW is miles ahead of all MMOs still, which shows in many small things.. ie. more twitch viewers, EU WoW forum being more active than NA/EU GW 2 forum etc.

Anyway, both games are totally different MMOs. I have quit WoW long ago as I don’t have the time and disagree with its direction, but GW2 is nowhere near WoW level right now.

I think its overrated.. sure damage from full glass ranger is “OP”, but one half decent thief can insta kill you so easily.

Yes I play ranger a lot. I can agree that shooting from 1500 range isnt always healthy gameplay, but neither are turret engi’s, but they are still here too.

Its hard to def a base as power ranger too.

I don’t think there are any way right now, but I too would love to see one.

My solution has been to run the game in windowed mode and just resize the window so I will hopefully see when the queue pops.

Thank you very much, I’ll try this out. I should see the loading screen pop up this way. Is there a way to quickly switch between windowed mode and full screen?

Karma and the reward system..

Gervaise.4163

I have been away for a while so excuse me if I am mistaken, but from what I have seen most if not all updates only add armor and weapons to the game behind a gold/RNG gate..

I understand Anet wants to make money just like any company and I
m perfectly fine with that, but I find it strange that many people have no use for Karma anymore and convert it to gold.

Karma is such a good concept. Currency that you get from participating in events. I thought that was the whole concept of GW2. Playing the game the way you want.

People tagging champions/bosses for bronze so they get loot, because who cares about Karma, right?

It’s fine that world bosses and champions have some extra loot, but because our current rewarding system revolves around gold we are pretty much forced to do this content, because events give nothing.

Why can’t we make Karma valuable again? Some weapon set added to Karma ever once in a while instead of adding every single weapon set to BLC… or some extra armor set every once in a while..

Without the zergs it’s impossible for anyone to get anywhere in GW2. The zerg is the only way to get good coin and gold is the only meaningful currency. It’s actually pretty sad from a gameplay perspective.

And yes, they are just cosmetics, but isn’t the point of a game like GW2 to do stuff for cosmetics instead of upgrading gear? Kinda feels like it takes weeks if not months to even get a single skin…

If we could spend our Karma on new stuff every now and then it would make doing events without champs more meaningful.. even if these new items cost 100.000 karma or more..

Gems prices and current Gem store sale

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Gervaise.4163

Gervaise.4163

I dont mind items like unlimited farming tools being expensive, but the inflation has made the gemstore prices kittened.

It takes ages for a casual player to get 800 gems together nowadays. And the only rewarding gameplay is joining a zerg and spamming 1.

BLC skins being locked behind a 100g/RNG door. It’s hard to get even one skin.

You can argue that it’s just cosmetics, but aren’t cosmetics the end game of GW2?

Not saying we should be able to get everything, but by playing about 2-3 hours a day u can barely accomplish anything unless u only do the zerg and spam 1 which I would hardly call gameplay..

No money = No e-sport

in PvP

Posted by: Gervaise.4163

Gervaise.4163

GW2 will never become an e-sport. Even WoW struggles to be an e-sport because MMos are not really made to be an e sport, unlike MOBAs, they scream e-sport.

WoW e-sports are 2v2 and 3v3. Very limited compared to LoL 5v5 map with objectives and such, also easier to follow similar to a football match.

Regarding GW2, I watched half a match before I gave up. Watching a particle spam gets old really fast. As someone mentioned, even the casters have a hard time keeping up with whats going on and are just yelling things they notice through the particle spam.

Is a Ranger just a Warrior with a pet?

in Ranger

Gervaise.4163

You’re looking at things in terms of mechanics, rather than terms of flavor. The professions exist to give flavor to the game. It’s not about being a warrior without a pet, flavor goes much deeper.

Ranger’s attacks are very mobile. You’re jumping all over the place. Not a big bashing attack but an agile, fleet-footed attack. A mechanics player sees only how much damage you do and the fact that it’s melee. But the melee feels very different to me. Blowing a warhorn as a ranger doesn’t give me a charge…it calls down three birds to attack my target. It’s a mechanic, but it’s the flavor of the attack that makes the difference.

I feel completely different playing a warrior and ranger, because I’m not focused on mechanics.

Warriors can’t be trappers either.

I’m not seeing how my Ranger is more agile than my Warrior that is literally jumping all over the place. Thief is an example of an agile class, Ranger not so much.

I understand that flavor is important but I do believe that classes need to be significantly different. Like the Mesmer and Elementalist. Completely different classes. If Mesmer was just a reskin of the Elementalist with different particles than I think it’s a bad design.

Rangers were marketed as “Unparalleled archers”, but I’m failing to see what makes them unparalled. This was supposed to their niche, but I’m failling to see how they fill this niche.

Anyway, I’m not hating on the Ranger class. I just think that they were poorly designed and don’t really offer anything unique outside of the pet system.

Is a Ranger just a Warrior with a pet?

Gervaise.4163

“Rangers rely on a keen eye, a steady hand, and the power of nature itself. Unparalleled archers, rangers are capable of bringing down foes from a distance with their bows.”

I was expecting an archer class, but my Warrior can also use ranged weapons quite succesfully, while being dominant in melee.

It’s not about which class is better, but I am purely talking about class identity. I feel like all classes have very unique kits that make them completely different from the other classes. Except Ranger, which in my opinion doesn’t really fill any niche nor seems to bring anything unique as a class except having a perma pet., which at the end of the day is just some AI

Maybe I had wrong expectations, but the official art and text projected Rangers as the archer class of GW2 and I normally love archer-type classes. Short bow feels very stale, having all my power in AI and auto attack got old really fast..

Why are people so salty?

I logged out for more than a year and when I came back the game was the same as when I left.

LS2 is a great step forward compared to LS1, judging by what we have now, but we do NOT know what the future brings, so how can you say that logging off for 1 year gives players an expansion worth of content? You can’t.

Anyway, that is not the main point of post. It’s an improvement so I’m fine with that.

However, when you see people ask for an expansion they mean content that enhances the game(play). You know, stuff like weapon skill and utility skill balances (Not just tooltips and some numbers, but actual changes). Lets be honest, there are so many weapons that serve no purpose in any environment since launch.

People want new maps, weapons, dungeons etc. and not to mention in game rewards that are rewarded for play not bought with gold.

Currently farming gold is the end game, but I do think that gold should be important and I’m fine with the gem store, but right now the gem store is end game. This made champion and EOTM trains end game (cause all that matters is where u get gold and karms the quickest). How is this healthy gameplay. Spamming 1/AoE in a group as end game instead of dungeons/events and PvP battlegrounds…. we NEED an expansion to fix the many design errors that are in the game.

edit: “Can you Say” is censored apparently… I’m such a bad boy, excuse my language

Gervaise.4163

If you are unable to do content for whatever reason (be it a disability or incapability) then you’ll just have to ask help from other people and external sites.

You can’t expect Anet to take everything into consideration when developing content simply because the game would become very boring and stale.

Some people may have a slow reaction time, should Anet make all projectiles move on snail speed? These people often can’t play PvP competitively because PvP allows fast reaction time and quick thinking.

You enjoy the rest of the game and if you can’t do the jumping puzzle just ask a mesmer for a portal and the next chapters will likely not all be jumping puzzles anyway.

If Anet takes every group of people into consideration they would be forced into just making LS easy hack and slash so anyone can complete it easily, we don’t want that right?

Did Megaservers ruin Events?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gervaise.4163

I started playing in the early access weekend until a few weeks after. Then took a break.

Came back a few months back and leveled again. I did notice that the world was a lot emptier and I was playing on a full world. I was basically doing a lot of events by myself.
I do agree that changes had to be made in order to make the game feel more like a MMO again, instead of a solo player games.

I recently came back again from a break and it has been my first experience with the mega servers.

So far I have leveled an elementalist to about level 60 and a thief to 30 by completing maps, but there are WAY too many people on the map now. The amazing thing about GW2 PvE are the dynamic events, but all the events are the same. Tag with AoE abilities before everything dies. How is this healthy game play?

That being said, champions and group events in Kessex Hills were fun, but most of the other events are just AoE for gold medal and loot and it’s starting to get really dull after a while.

So should events scale better now that there are so many people around, to make it more challenging and enjoyable?

World Completion Suggestion

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Gervaise.4163

Your suggestion doesn’t work for the reason people stated. Getting WvW map is a lot easier thus its unfair.

Secondly, Anet wants players in the world. This way PvE players do some WvW and WvW players do some PvE on top of the game mode they like best.

I just came back like 2 weeks ago. I’m shocked by how little has changed.

I do love the new race in Festival of the Four Winds and the Super Adventure Box was fun too, but lets be honest, those are temporary fun content.

No, content added to the Gem store is NOT real content. I’m talking new PvP modes, new dungeons with new rewards etc.

Right now end game is farming gold for items in the gem store and doing some achievements every few weeks..

To Those Who Have Quit This Game

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gervaise.4163

Gervaise.4163

The problem is that Anet did a lot of wrong and many people have quit over the company’s fails and fail in gameplay design.

I last played at launch and only recently came back, only because there is no subscription really. To my surprise very little has changed and I have been away for a long time.

Balance patches and living story are NOT actual content, neither are skins in the Gem store. Store is understandable as it isn’t a subscription based game and gems can be gotten by playing as well, but the Gem store is all about gold, which kinda makes the end game of GW2 come down to gold farming in order to get the new content.

The living story season 2 sounds promising, but only time will tell how that turns out. Still feeling like the game doesn’t have any actual content updates though, most other games out there offer patches (and expansions) that bring players back..in GW2 there are just mini updates with balance changes.

We have yet to get any new lands, with new events, new bosses, new craftables, new dungeons etc.

Why the Guild Wars 2 Internet Hate?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Gervaise.4163

Gervaise.4163

Because Guild Wars 2 gameplay is considered awful by many people and rightfully so.

On paper GW2 is the perfect game for me as I am a casual and have no interest in raids. However, I quit the game after about a month after the head start weekend.

Guild Wars 2 has amazing graphics and the innovative way to level is great too. Events are a nice concept. Classes are amazing concept wise as well.

But in the end it all comes down to the gameplay of combat, which is VERY lacking. There’s almost no variety in monsters and those all share the same abilities. Ettins everywhere doing the same thing, predictable and boring. Feels like a lazy design.

Combat is also very repetive. Spamming spells on cooldown while occasionally dodging.

I like GW2 because I play it with a friend and we play casually and thus prefer a MMO without a sub…… but so few has changed since I last played which was 1 month after launch.

That’s like 2 years without any significant changes being added. The game had potential then if they actually actively worked on the game and fixed things beyond class balance..
