Very sad to see you go, you did some really great work encouraging constructive feedback and were always super responsive to questions, but onwards and upwards!
Huge congrats on the new job! and best of luck, we’ll miss you!
Really looking forward to this new system, I’m a bit of an altaholic and most of my alts are in the mid-level zones right now, it’ll be nice to see other players around again
Will we get told which zones it’s been activated on, when it’s released? It’s pretty easy to know which zones are the low level ones, but low population is a little bit more difficult to tell (I’m guessing maps like Brisban Wildlands, Timberline Falls, Fields of Ruin?) It’d be nice to be told which maps have been switched, so we can go and see how it’s affecting those maps, when the system is released
I personally don’t see it as an issue at all.
Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve never had much of a problem relating to characters of any gender, provided they’re written well enough that I’m able to emphasize and feel for them o:
It might just be because the large majority of games I’ve played haven’t had female characters in leading roles within them, so maybe I just learned to relate to characters of the opposite gender, although I’m inclined not to agree with that. I believe good writing makes characters relatable regardless. I know not everyone agrees, but the bi-conics all have pretty distinct personalities, in my eyes. We know their aims or aspirations and if asked how one of them would react in a certain situation, I think most people could come up with a reasonable in-character guess. Different characters interact with each other in different ways, Rox and Braham have more of a ‘bro’ friendship going on, whereas Taimi and Braham seem to have more of a teasing brother/sister kind of relationship. I feel I can relate to Braham just as much as I can relate to Kasmeer or Taimi and him being male doesn’t change that one bit, so I’m not so sure why having a majorly female cast would make them less relatable to some people.
As characters the four of them shouldn’t be overlooked and just discounted as ‘too many females’ or ‘a gender imbalanced cast’, they all have their own personalities and goals, some are headstrong and confident, some are more subtle. I’d understand the complaints if every one of the bi-conic females had the same, damsel in distress style personality, but they don’t, Arenanet has built a pretty diverse cast of different characters from different backgrounds, with different motivations that work together and their gender shouldn’t make them any less interesting, I’m sure if the roles were reversed and it was 4 males to 1 female, this thread wouldn’t exist.
As others have said, it’s very refreshing to see well developed, strong female characters in leading roles that aren’t just there for sex appeal or as a ‘prize’ or someone to be rescued.
I thought it might’ve been something to do with the toxin too, at the start. Turns out she hiccups when she’s scared, bless her ;w;

Really, really great climax to the season The ending scene gave me shivers and the mechanics of the scarlet hologram boss battle was really enjoyable and intense too! I love the AOE’s and mechanics for that fight
Kas and Jory was adorable too and it was nice to have some emotional moments and scares in that instance, with Braham getting injured and telling Rox to go on but also with the Marjory getting knocked down….. Kas was seriously, seriously kitten in this patch Particularly with her taunting of Scarlet, when you’re trying to land the finishing blow o:
The final cinematic was beautifully done, really epic Very excited for season two and to see what all this dragon stuff is about
Season 1 although it’s had it’s flaws at times has seriously been a joy to play through and that ending was just the perfect finisher to it all ^^ Very glad to see all the biconics still standing too c:
That said, the cutscene has also raised so many more questions xD It’s kinda a shame we didn’t get to hear Scarlet out in the end, I’d have liked to hear her stance on what she did…also Caithe’s secret, we never got to hear it o:
But I completely understand that what she’d done by then was far from justifiable, so it does make sense that Braham ect wanted to rid Tyria of her as soon as possible before she played another disappearing act on us xD
Overall, amazing patch, amazing ending to the season! ^^

Your style is really unique and nice This is really cool ;u;
I’d say that lore is very important to me, the storytelling and characters are as important as the gameplay itself in my opinion. It’s definitely the main things keeping me around ^^ It’s kinda funny because I joined GW2 because I loved how free the combat was and other MMO’s hadn’t hooked me…..yet I probably spend more time listening to idle dialogue, talking to NPC’s and speculating than I do fighting things lately :P
It’s what makes the world seem real and believable and it plays a big role in how immersed you are whilst playing. The event system, for example. You see an event on the map, run in to help, someone wants you to collect eggs for an omlette he’s making, you help him out. He thanks you and then runs off. Most people would leave it there and get on with what they were doing, but if you were to follow him he’ll go back home, presumably make the omlettes and then sell them as a food item for karma. The world continues to run regardless of if you’re paying attention or not, NPC’s will talk to each other, move about the world doing their daily business, some will get in trouble and need help sometimes. The whole world doesn’t revolve around the player character, which I think is great because it allows people who are interested to stick around to witness these interactions and those who are not, to carry on playing the way they want to play. Much like real life :)
The base lore of this game is really interesting, I love the variety and backgrounds of the races and Sylvari being an almost blank canvas I find really awesome, I can’t think of another game that has such a young and naive playable race in it. I’m pretty new to the Guild Wars universe, I hadn’t heard of the original and only became interested in GW2 during the second beta weekend. But the lore interested me enough to go back and purchase the first game as well as read all the books, so I could get a stronger grasp on the world Tyria is.
I’ll admit I was a little cynical about the living story idea, back in Flame and Frost, but it’s grown on me a lot. I love the speculation that goes on before each update, I really love seeing the characters progress and the story continue and that my character can be a part of that. The biconic characters are really endearing in their own unique ways and I’m loving the interactions between them, particularly Kasmeer and Marjory and Taimi and Braham, it feels like we really do know them. There was only a handful of characters from the personal story that I even remotely cared about, wheras the new characters that’ve come about as part of the living story really do feel completely fleshed out and believable and I think loosing any one of them would feel like a huge loss.
There seems a lot more focus on storytelling recently, which I’m really thrilled about and hope continues :) I don’t think there’s any other game that lets you grow alongside the characters and the world like this. Things like trees being cut down in Kessex before the nightmare tower patch and the very subtle character development is a huge breath of fresh air. It’s nice to gradually learn about the characters we’re fighting alongside, rather than have it all chucked on a plate and handed to us in one go, something I’ve been used to with single player games ^^ I’m excited for the future of this game and seeing the lore continue to be built upon.
Overall, yes lore is very, very important to me :)
I like Taimi a lot, especially for a character only recently introduced, maybe even more so now, knowing that she’s had such a positive impact on someone.
Your post made me well up ;w; Thank you for sharing your story with us, and all the best! <3
Here’s one of mine The harbour is beautiful <3
I almost choked on my cereal xD This is brilliant!
This is beautiful xD Entertaining read
Another FemCharr player over here
My main actually A Guardian, I also have another female Charr Mesmer, who I haven’t leveled too much yet
Pretty sure it’s located in My Documents/Guild Wars 2/ rather than in the program files It’s in the same place that screenies get saved too
Edit: Also, welcome to GW2
Came here to say just this It’s been a while since launch that this game has gotten me really intrigued and excited about something
I stumbled across Yavvi and Ketto’s conversation in Rata-Sum, when banking something at the accountancy waypoint and was immediately taken by it, I spent a while looking around for where I was hearing them from, then spent a good couple of hours camping the two NPC’s for dialogue c:
I absolutely adore subtle lore like this, story that’s not necessarily completely in your face, and not needed to be able to play the game, but adds more depth to the story for those who go looking for it
I also loved the touch of the "avoid the genie" books in the shops in SAB xD It has me curious as to whether the genie was implemented intentionally by Moto or was more of his subconscious that slipped in o:
But no, the cutscene was awesome, the new voice acting is awesome, the subtle New Krytan comments are awesome, I just really, really love this patch, if anything because of the extra subtlety and the new lore it’s brought to the scene Also SAB is a ton of fun c: Can’t wait to find out more about this little Krewe!
Edit: fixed formatting so the spoiler hiding worked xD

Maybe this is a little bit of a nit picky topic, but I’ve noticed in the last 3 days, the accessory hair piece on my charr has changed from a rusty silver colour to a bright red colour. I’ve not used any make over kits, so I’m not sure what could’ve caused this, I just thought I’d post here, so you’re aware of it and see if anyone else is having the same problem.
They’ve been silvery from launch and I’ve never had an issue like this before o:
Below are a couple of screenies showing her hair on the 31st August and then today on the 3rd September
Mufasa Onyxclaw – 9/10 I really love this name and your back story behind it too, ‘Onyx’ is unusual but it seems to fit pretty well c:
Maximus Padeous – 7/10 Really sorry to hear about your cat :< It’s a nice, thoughtful name, I particularly like the sirname Padeous It has a nice ring to it c: Love the though behind the pet name too
Heres two of mine
Nesk – A rough around the edges, male, Iron Legion Engineer. (I was supposed to put him in Blood Legion..but made him at launch and can’t bring myself to re-make him)
Aerynn Shadowfang (The only Charr I have with a lore friendly name >.< and that’s only because Aerynn alone was taken) – Female Charr Mesmer Again part of the Iron Legion c:
Like others have said, just change your culling options to ‘low’
I personally really, really love that they’ve removed it, I had no idea that you could even have that many players on the map o-o I dare people to say GW2 is dead now, after seeing this
Elbegast, you need to fo 5 of the events that spawn once an hour (Location is shown on the sidebar ‘Clockwork Chaos’ section Portal events spawn during invasions and you just have to complete 5 of them
But yus, I agree with OP, really a big improvement in the Living Story Achievements lately Especially since Dragonbash and Aetherblades, with the ‘Smash 200 pinatas’ or ‘Kill 100 aetherblades in *certain zone’
I love that there’s a real sense of story progression, with the achievements and I also really like that some require you do the event, along with a small skill element, such as the ‘Swift Closer’ achieve which requires you to close 5 portals in 15 minutes A bit more of a challenge
A step in the right direction methinks
I actually really enjoyed the cutscene c: She seems like quite an interesting character that I’d love to see develop in more ways. I particularly loved some of her lines where she was scoffing about the pale tree not approving and such c: I think this is probably one of my favourite cutscenes to date I can’t wait to hear more about her motives and such c:
The only thing I’ve not been so keen on with her, lore wise, is that if she’s so high an mighty, in terms of graduating from all of the Asuran Colleges and other racial education facilities too, why have we never heard her mentioned before? (other than Mai Trin in the Aetherblade Retreat dungeon)
Of course, I understand that with a tight schedule and such, it’d be hard to implement something like this. But even a couple of NPC ambient city chatter audio clips, just mentioning it and snuck into game in the middle of the month, would do amazing things for piecing together the lore c:
Something like (NPC Chatter) “Hey, you know that Sylvari that graduated from the college of statics last month?”
“Yeah, what about her?”
“I wonder what happened to her, what she’s doing now? …It’s not often that the colleges let…y’know, bookah’s into their ranks”
…..I know this is a terrible example, I’m no writer xD but just something like that would be really cool c: Even if it was just a couple of them dotted around.
Chances are, at least a few people would hear it, and with some of the people invested in and helping spread the lore, in the Guild Wars 2 community (Wooden Potatoes anyone?) I’m sure the word would get out quickly, when it was found c:
and even if it was a case of you worrying about whether it’s worth it, if it’s not guaranteed to be noticed, why not put something in the patch notes for the Release 2 weeks prior to introducing a big character/event implying NPC’s are talking/rumours are spreading, so people interested will actively go seek them out c:
I really love the Guild Wars 2 lore and I’ve really been enjoying the living story a lot too. But I feel, in order to make it believable and seem..well…like a ‘Living Story’ the characters need to be built up a bit more, before shoving them into the story with…….“this character is evil, help stop them” kinda thing.
Just a few suggestions, I think would be good c: I get that you guys are on a tight schedule and I’ve seen so much improvement in the last few living stories, keep up the amazing work Keeping GW2 in one of the MMO topspots
Oh, also? “Eeeeveryone’s heard about Scarlet!”
Yeaaaaaah. The writers really need to work on building villains instead of pulling them out of thin air like this. Especially if they’re so super special that they apparently are a master student of all three asura colleges and mentors from every other race ever.
It was kinda easy to miss, but she was mentioned during Dragon Bash, in the Aetherblade Dungeon, Mai Trin, I think it was, said something at the end of the dungeon along the lines of ’Scarlet’s not going to be happy’ …Don’t quote me exactly, but she was definitely mentioned c: Not a huge mention, but still a mention xD
Zott’s not following over here either, he’ll follow me half way, say ’She’s still breathing, she has to be’ before we’re even at Elli and then he’ll stay still and not come any closer Leaving only the ‘Vigil Warmaster’ able to be revived :S
Having the same issue with only being able to revive the Vigil Warmaster and no-one else
Edit: Restarted mission several times, let Zott go into the water first, nothing seems to be working and it’s halting progression

Heya, I’m pretty much an Alt-aholic and most of my friends are busy getting their Legendaries and world completion now, whilst I still have 9 characters I’d like to get to level 80 before even starting that
I’m looking for a couple of people to level with, so it’s not so lonely xD I’m used to leveling with 3 or 4 friends and with them all busy, leveling is pretty lonely whenever I’m not following a string of events with lots of people
I have alts ranging from level 40 to level 2 c: I’m on Aurora Glade (EU) but am happy to guest to wherever I’m usually on from 8pm GMT until midnight, every day and sometimes a bit longer on weekends c: Just shoot me a message in game if you’re interested
I’ve been on Aurora Glade since the start and it’s never seemed dead to me o:
Have you been to Lions Arch? there are always plenty of people chatting there and most of Kryta (Queensdale ect) always have people helping each other on map chat o:
If you want some company though, I’m always happy to come level with you c: I’ve to tons of alts and am always looking for people to level with
A video I worked on with a friend from College c: She’s an avid World of Warcraft player and I’m a Guild Wars 2 player, so I got her to send me some videos of her character dancing and edited it together with videos of some of my GW2 characters, to make this short dance video
A long outdated video of my just my characters dancing is here c: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cg_5-WZKwmQ
But I’ve make-overed a few of them and have a couple more now, so I’ll be making a new one of this soon
Yes please I have had so much fun with these boxes xD
8/10 I love the first name Zarr c: and Forge in the sirname is really fitting
Not sure about how well the Hate fits, but it still sounds epic
Gwylen is my Guardian Charr Ash Legionaire and proud member of the Durmand Priory c:
Ahh, I love some of these suggestions <3
I asked the same question on Reddit and got given the song Clarity by Zedd, which I think also fits really well, especially when used from Caithe’s point of view c: Here are the lyrics
“High dive into frozen waves where the past comes back to life
(Possibly Caithe entering Twilight Arbour to confront Faolain? The frozen waves could be a metaphor for memories)
Fight fear for the selfish pain, it was worth it every time
(Caithe’s fear of loosing the dream? The selfish pain of standing her ground, even though one word and she could be with her lover again?)
Hold still right before we crash ’cause we both know how this ends
A clock ticks ’til it breaks your glass and I drown in you again
(The hand print from the Destinys Edge book, eating away at Caithe? before Faolain confronted her again on her sick bed)
‘Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn’t need
(Self explanitory)
Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don’t know why
(Could be used to refer to how Faolain seems to follow Caithe, or lure her into situations like in Twilight Arbour)
If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love’s insanity, why are you my clarity?
If our love is tragedy, why are you my remedy?
If our love’s insanity, why are you my clarity?
Walk on through a red parade and refuse to make amends
(‘Red Parade’ could be used to refer to the nightmare court) _
It cuts deep through our ground and makes us forget all common sense
_(Refering to how Faolain no longer believes in Ventari’s teachings, which is used as ‘common sense’ by the Sylvari and how it cut deep through their relationship and everything they had known up until that point)
Don’t speak as I try to leave ‘cause we both know what we’ll choose
( In Destinys Edge, Caithe told Faolain to leave, in order to get the curse Faolain cast on her, removed)
If you pull then I’ll push too deep and I’ll fall right back to you
‘Cause you are the piece of me I wish I didn’t need
Chasing relentlessly, still fight and I don’t know why"
One of the songs I’m really considering Only problem is, it’s quite a long song and I’ve got lots of other animation things to do in the holiday, so I’d have to cut it down a lot, or make it more of a moving lyric video than an animation, if I wanted to get it finished before I go back to uni
But I really like it, so It’s definitely one I’m considering
All of mine were named after some form of plant or herb
All one word, as no Sylvari I’ve seen in game have had a sirname o:
I love some of the moss ideas here also the cactus idea sounds pretty fun c:
I’d love some more bark-like hairstyles, similar to the what Faolain has but with tangles of branches sweeping back over the head (possibly even like a plait). I also really like the idea of using plants like ivy, with more interesting shaped leaves, to create thick, but short hairstyles on Sylvari
…I’m just afraid, if more hairstyles were ever added, I’d need to make more alts xD
I was wondering, who are your favourite characters you’ve met in game? either in the storyline or part of an event, renown heart, dungeon, anything really
Personally my two favourite characters are Caithe and Sieran
I really love Caithe’s back story, particularly in Twilight Arbour, but I also love how she had nothing bad to say about any of the Destinys Edge crew, how she seems calm but deadly and how she seems very strong and dedicated c:
Sieran I love just because of how much fun she was as a character, she always seemed really upbeat and jolly and that’s just what you need to keep your spirits up when fighting for the fate of Tyria
How about you guys, who are your favourites and why do you like them? c:
I’ll join you c: I’m on Aurora Glade (EU) but they’re both EU servers, so I’m guessing we can guest (Never done that before though) o:
Electro is right c: It’s a Ranger skill as far as I know, Sylvari have Grasping Vines which targets only one, whereas Entangle targets 5 if they’re in range o:
Orange here Love the glow ;u;
I’m thinking of working on an animation, over the summer holidays, about Caithe and Faolains relationship and was looking for songs with lyrics that suited their situation c:
Does anyone have any ideas?
Sarah Mclachlan’s ‘I will remember you’ is one of my current ideas, just because of the
“(Caithe) I’m so afraid to love you
But more afraid to lose
Clinging to a past that doesn’t let me choose
(Faolain) Once there was a darkness
Deep and endless night
You gave me everything you had, oh you gave me life "
I’d love to find others though
8/10 Really awesome thought put into the name too o:
Giloy is my Ranger Sylvari Named after the common slang for Guduchi herbs c:
I’ve found that around the Hoelbrak area, the textures on the doors and the pelt pieces hanging off the smaller lodges seem to disappear or flicker to white when moving the camera. I’ve not been able to capture a screeny of it doing this, as it only does for a brief second, but here’s one of the area’s where all the lodges are doing this c:
This has made my day so much more awesome xDD All of the win, all of it :’3
Okay, here goes c:
Aurora Glade (EU) both of us in the main world.
What map you are on – Harathi Hinterlands
How many people in your party – Me and one other (I’m a Charr, She’s an Asura)
Any other details you can provide – Doing the level 47 Durmand Priory Quest ‘Set to Blow’ with one other person. We’re both in the same area, not in the overflow either, but whenever one of us is a little too far away from the other, their blue dot on the mini map stops moving and their portrait disappears, even if we’re in the same area still. When I go into the instance, It’s just me there, my friend didn’t get the option to join me and the story starts as if I was alone.
