I was going to post this in the Heart Of Thorns section but as it happens this is crossing over to WvW as well.

With the induction of Heart Of Thorns we have seen 8 new stat types come out. But one stands different from the rest…. Commander’s. Yes Commander’s stats are extremely difficult to obtain. The insignia or inscription? Easy. The armor/weapon recipe? Impossible. As it stands the only way to obtain the recipes are by opening noxious pods.

Alright sure lets play Dragon Stand and open a few boxes get the recipes and be on with our day. The drop rate is so low, in over a year playing Heart of Thorns I have never received a Commander’s armor or weapon recipe book. Obviously it must happen because you can buy them on the TP. Assuming you want a full armor set on the TP currently (Nov 14) each recipe sells for 18g-80g. What? 80g for a recipe to build an armor set. Comparatively if we look at Wanderer’s armor books go from 10s-1g.

Now Wanderer’s also only drops from Noxious pods, but in my year of playing Heart of Thorns I have unlocked all the recipes. So what’s the deal with Commander’s? Why is Commander’s so much more rare than every other Heart Of Thorns stat?

If you want a set of Commander’s your best bet is to currently run fractals and get enough ascended boxes (or do achievements that reward ascended boxes) and stat swap them to Commander’s.. How does that make any sense? Why does an exotic set of armor cost so much gold compared to it’s competitors?

A quick solution would be to increase the drop rate of recipes from noxious pods. But I believe that you should not be punished for wanting to play other game modes (pvp/wvw). The reward tracks should drop recipes for the respected zones, or recipes should be able to be purchased with proof of heroics/memories of battle or pvp league tickets/Shards of Glory.

For the guild mission collect 10 power cores in the desert borderlands during the oasis event. Can that be scaled down as it was already hard enough to get 10 in with the cap at 20. Guilds will have to tell other players to get lost and not help to complete the challenge.

This skill needs a change. In WvW this skill can be used, Hit multiple targets over the course of its 5 target cap per tick then places multiple traps around. These traps are 90% of the time invisible. As well you get locked in for the full duration. There is no counter play as you cannot dodge out. The only thing players can do is pop stability but this skill can hands down take away all of a guardians stacks of stability kitten traps can be placed down. Each wall takes away 1 stack of stability meaning if you walk through at the wrong place, it will strip 2 stacks of stab instead of 1.

Let’s talk too about these ridiculous WvW tactics.
Assuming you got through the stupid rock walls on earth keep.. which are just annoying you face…

Dragon banners… Yup – 1 Shotting an entire zerg.. seems fair
Chilling Fog… Yup – Perma chill.. seems balanced.

I have left WvW before because when we are attacking a keep I get perma chilled then Dragon Banner attacked. Where’s the fun in that?

We can all agree the best fights always happened in Fully upgraded Garrison with all 3 Servers colliding.

Yeah I pretty much completely agree except for the part about air turrets being to op. Gotta remember revs will have plenty of stab to go around. But yeah just at a first glance I can see it forcing people to use more small team tactics rather then blobing for sure. Defense should be fun and exciting again, and yes it should be difficult to take towers and keeps that makes the reward that much sweeter. I to would be perfectly fine if it was released tomorrow and was the starting point for the new era of wvw. I was worried going into it because of all the negative talk in this forum, but after experiencing it first hand I can say I’m pleasantly surprised and excited for future beta and release of these maps!!!

What i meant to say was that the air turrets are OP compared to the fire and earth turrets. I rarely noticed getting crippled or damaged from them. I had to search out and get hit on purpose.

First of all, I wanted to say that the map is amazing and
Now, let’s talk about roaming. The map itself is really fun to roam through and there are many spots to hide and make plays and this is really fun. On the other hand, you can’t really capture a supply camp by yourself now since there are more guards and this kinda lowers the importance of roamers by a fair bit.

I honestly don’t know what you’re talking about, I was able to solo supply camps very easily. Upgraded camps yes take more than 1 person but that’s how the game should be played.

First I’d like to say thanks for inviting me to participate in this beta, and good job to all anet staff. I love this map.

Things to improve.. based on first impressions.

Air keep turrets.. Holy crap they are powerful. They can knock everyone off a cliff to their deaths (i know by design). But the other turrets for the other keeps go unnoticed. I rarely ever got crippled by the earth ones, or got damaged by the fire ones. I do feel though that the air ones are a little overpowered as they are placed in very dangerous spots. If I’m fighting an enemy zerg and I’m on the stairs with 4 air turrets, we are dead no doubt. They have the high ground, and we have to either waste a stab or a dodge roll just so we don’t get knocked off the cliff.

Infernal hounds.. Their damage seems a bit high, I was one shotting backline characters. Also while in mist form you can activate profession abilities (at least on guardian)

Supply depots. I found myself constantly looking for supply depots in keeps. Either it was me just not knowing where they are, or they were hard to find. They’re in weird spots. Mostly in the middle of a room, there’s no real indicator as to where they are. A map icon or the default supply hut would be nice, something to give people some clue. I felt like there was only 1 in each keep that I could find.

AC wars 2. I know defending is suppose to be a big part, but it would be so easy to defend the keeps with just 1 or 2 ACs. With shield generators it is possible to take keeps, and no waypoints mean the world, but there needs to be a way you can take out the ACs. Attacking zergs are starved for supply whereas the defending zerg has tons of it.

NPCs, there’s this one cliff near the earth keep where there is just way too many bats on it.

Guard respawn times. While attacking keeps guards respawn insanely quick.

What I loved..

The size of the map. It’s perfect. It discourages omni blobs, it’s great for roamers, and guild groups. To be effective you really need at least 2 forces on the map. It takes too long to travel from 1 side of the map to the other so it’s really effective to have 2 groups each taking a side. For not home BL taking shrines as 2 groups then combining forces is a great tactic to taking a keep.

Air keep jump pads. What great additions. It’s awesome to own air keep and use them.

Infernal hounds. Love em, it’s something new that really sets the tone of the fire keep.

Shield generators. Perfect for sieging a keep, and defending a keep. Many uses. Amazing traits.

Something for everyone.. Havoc can take towers, camps, and shrines. Roamers have room to hide away from zergs, pick people off in sandstorms or from above, guild groups have the ability to run around and be effective as 20 people.

Contrast from Air to fire keep zones. Air keep zone is very close combat but very vertical, whereas fire keep zone is very open and flat (except for the keep part which is very cool)

Oasis event. Really cool idea, everyone can tag in. It really forces all servers to join in and fight it out in the middle. havocs can still go and take objectives behind people. Very cool gameplay mechanic. With great rewards for winning.

Keep lords. They finally put up that last line of defence against an enemy zerg. They do REAL DAMAGE, and have a REAL HEALTH POOL. They have fears, stuns, shadow steps. Fighting against an enemy zerg in a lords room is a ton of fun. Taking a keep isn’t suppose to be easy.

With all this said, balance will still be an issue when organized guild groups get their full guild into a map. It will be interesting to see how it plays out.

To all people saying that this map is no good, I think you’re calling it way too early. All we’ve seen are pug zergs, and really this map could be released tomorrow and I would love it. It a very fresh idea and beautiful map.

How was this even not fixed yet!?!?

Considering you can get the buff from…
1. Getting in and out of a golem
2. Killing a golem
3. Dying in a golem

Players may be getting it by accident, you can’t ban people for that.

The event is only for a few more days. Take a break.

Sure, please do show which guild exploited it. I’m not talking about random havoc group or random person_01 in a zerg. I’m talking about a guild running a guild zerg where majority of their players had the supercharged buffs on them. While at the same time, none of the other blobs did, not even a blob from TC’s side.

That said guild ruined the fun we were trying to have tonight. Again, this failed event should’ve been turned off 2 days ago.

Considering you can get the buff from killing an Omega it’s not really exploiting if it happened by accident. I’m sure lots of people didn’t even realize they had it.

Saying a guild ruined the fun.. more like anet ruined your fun, they implemented this event and gave the bug.

We would have been happy with a WvW spring / summer tournament, but we got this terrible event.

Servers already can’t handle reset night or any night where 3 servers are fighting each other. But add 50 golems spinning in garrison lords room.. jesus. double damage was way too much when you have no cap on how many golems are on a map.

Did anyone of actual importance get into the beta? I haven’t heard of anyone who plays WvW regularly on NA servers that got in.. All i’ve seen is PvE main content creators and their opinion is invalid when talking about a WvW situation.

EU opinions don’t validate anything as when I was on an EU server the game was played very differently than it is on NA.

As a WvW only player I have some concerns.

From what I understand you need hero points to become more powerful in game. How will this balance in WvW. I have every character level 80 and there’s no way I’m doing map completion 8 more times just to be as strong as someone else. If someone mains PvE or has all the hero points they can get; will they be able to overpower me because I don’t?

You haven’t experienced lag until you’ve experienced T1 3 way blob fights in garri. On April 3rd we started with 35 people from our guild playing. An hour later half of us had Disconnected from the servers. I was always 3-5 seconds behind everyone else. What was my ping? 90. Unacceptable..

This is insane. Its like my character has 2 – 3 seconds of delay on all of his actions. I just cant play and its been like this since the latest patch!
118 ping at this moment, average 121!

You’re lucky this week I’ve seen lag in the 600 to 5,000 range. Never really saw lag like this until this week.

5000 in generous. There’s fights at garrison and I’m still lagging getting out of spawn

Since the new patch the lag in WvW has gotten ridiculous. It’s as if anet bought new servers put HoT on the old WvW servers and put WvW on the new worse servers.

Honestly it has become unplayable for most people and a lot of people aren’t even bothering to log in because they know they can’t play properly. When a whole guild starts lagging out with no control over their character when just entering a supply camp for 5 seconds.. there’s a problem.

I know it will always be laggy, I’m not expecting the servers to be able to handle 3 way fights in garrison (although they used to). Just a regular fight though with maybe 100 people maximum? The servers should be able to handle that.

I really hope anet fixes this problem because the way I hear it if it doesn’t get solved a lot of players will not be purchasing the Heart of Thorns.

PPK is just going to encourage larger servers to run as one big group instead of having smaller groups run around and control more of the map. Full 100 man groups aren’t fun to play in or play against. A good part of WvWvW is trying to coordinate all of your groups together to take a heavily defended keep or tower. We might see servers win purely off kills and no objectives.

Although a much needed change PPK might need to be implemented a different way.

Maybe a guild buff that grants PPK while in proximity, that way when all servers have left is their garrison they have some way of getting points so they aren’t blown out with no hopes of coming back.

As for the white swords if you do remove them, allow scouts to sound an alarm or something of the sort to make the white swords appear (Would probably need to be an upgrade). Then scouts can be given a bigger reward towards the success of a defence of a keep or tower. Such as more experience, karma and gold (probably just more silver).
