HoT Elite Spec Needed Before PoF Elite Spec?

My question is what if I want to level a HoT elite spec, such as Chronomancer, but don’t wnat to play HoT zones? Can I just level it in PoF? I’m guessing yes, but would rather know than guess lol.

You don’t really “level” an elite spec, at least not in a traditional sense of gaining experience. You just spend hero points to progress it. And hero points are universal, there’s no such thing (at least in the current game) as regional hero points or anything.

My thoughts exactly, but wanted to verify as maybe something was said by Anet. All my Google searches didn’t find anything, so thought I’d ask here. Thanks for the reply.

At this point the only question is if PoF has enough “spare” hero points to fully unlock both the PoF elite spec and the HoT elite spec. Unless you don’t want to unlock the PoF elite spec at all and just want the HoT spec, I guess.

My guess on that would be probably not,

They could though. If they had 10 point Hero Challenges. At 20 per map, that is 200 points per map. It would only take 2.5 zones to reach 500. This is mere speculation though. I just know that usually devs. want as many players as possible in new zones so their latest, highest priced, content has a high pop. Then again they don’t want old content being a ghost town either as new players leveling up might start to think the game is dead. So, there is reason for Anet to force peeps back to old content too. So one can only guess at this point. I just hope they set it up in a way that if I want to play exclusively in PoF on my 80s that I can.

Why elite specs will never work

OP, while there is logic in your questioning why elite specs focus on weapons that aren’t at the core of a profession (like why not have GS for Guard elite spec?), I think the counter to that argument is the ability to swap weapons. So, you are not forced to use the weapon to take the elite spec. At most it is 1 of 2 of your weapons. Even then, you don’t have to take it at all, opting to only use some of the 6-0 abilities from the elite spec, as some builds I have seen do.

By adding a new weapon (which oftentimes requires adding in one that doesn’t quite fit the theme of a profession), elite specs don’t just give us a new 6-0, but also a new 1-5 (or more in the case of ele, or classes that have F1-F? such as guard and engi).

I think it just adds an unnecessary step. How does this improve the game?

DPS meter really?

IMO…

Are the mobs and bosses dying, and at a pace we all can accept?
Are whipes infrequent to none?
Everyone in team seem competent and thus surviving majority of the fights?

If the answer is yes to all of these, then play the game!

I’ve had friends turned down for raids due to low gear score (WoW), low dps, etc. from raids they had ran before and had no issues at all. I like the system where games have imposed levels at which certain dungeons unlock. Yet players demaning more and more and more has gotten out of hand. I remember the days when peeps didn’t care. Yes we all wiped more, and groups sometimes fell apart. Yet it made the game more fun as every fight was something we had to focus on. A bad pull could cause a whipe. It added suspense and made victory all the more rewarding. Now, the “you all are here for me, so I can get item x” mentality is ruining games. I’ve even seen groups disband due to a wipe on the 3rd boss in a dungeon when we 1-shot every boss before it. People just have no patience and see everyone else as servants to them, to help them get the item they need.

The Issue With PoF

Bringing in content from GW1 is pandering? LOL, I’ve heard it all. Ya, no other reason Anet would want to make GW2 feel as if it was a sequel to their previous game in the same series OTHER than pandering! No way they would maybe just want to continue a story of a world they created, right?

Now for those of you who don’t like mounts, don’t use them then. Walk and cast your swiftness when not on cooldown. Problem solved. The rest of us who love large worlds but hate spending 80% of our play time on auto run to the horizon applaud this great addition. I never felt I had to have a mount in GW2 and gliding helps a lot, but a bit of a speed boost is nice sometimes, and the addition of mount-specific abilities is an awesome addition. To me it just makes sense. Why would anyone NOT have ground mounts at least? It just makes sense. Flying mounts ruin immersion as they allow you to just straight line it to anywhere, and avoid other players, but ground mounts don’t do this. They just speed up travel time a bit. As long as the mounts are not running at insane speeds (they aren’t), then they don’t ruin immersion and in fact make things more fun.

Last of all, if you liked the Jungle of HoT, then more power to you. Yet why would you think a desert should be built the same way? HoT could be fun, but trying for over an hour and a half over two nights played time just for 1 of the 11 mastery points I need isn’t fun. I ported over to Divinity’s Reach and logged in an alt.

Games are things we should look forward to playing, not ones that feel like a 2nd job. As Angry Joe said, in his GW2 review on YouTube “how about a game that doesn’t feel like a f&^%ing chore!” He was right, GW2 had a great flow/pace, and there was always somewhere to go next. You got there and started the content in that area. There were places you had to climb for vistas, and other challenges. Then HoT drops and….CHORE! Fun at times, but far too often it was all about spending forever trying various paths to get to a mastery point, hero challenge, etc.

As much as I am burned out on HoT, I think the jungle was designed like a jungle should be. Lots of open area would have not fit. I’m glad we having more open areas in PoF with the desert. Lets not act as if it too should look like a jungle, as that too would not fit.

This expansion took all that fun out of the game. It was my fav. MMO ever, but now it has to be near last on the list. Goodbye Anet, you lost a customer.

Is anyone bored?

This expansion killed this game dead with no hope of rally or res for me. What once was what I thought to be the best MMO I’ve ever played is now just an endless series of frustrations as I can’t even get around the world to accomplish basic goals. One POI in VB (in the upper level of the canopy) I spent 3 to 4 hours over 2 nights trying to get. That was it for me.

The devs. did a horrible job in the design of this map. It looks cool, and the events are cool too. Yet they took exploration and turned it into a arduous chore of epic proportion. If a game isn’t fun, then I see no need to log in. GW2, you were a great game… WERE!

HoT has really sucked out a LOT of the fun of GW2. I’m really getting sick of gliding everywhere and still have the POI, vista, WP, HP, MP, or whatever I’m trying to get to listed at Above me. I finally get it below me and while flying to where it is, BAM I land and its above me again.

Come on Anet! Your creative department can do better than this! How about a better map! I’ve always hated the map as you zoom out a bit so as to maybe get a better idea of what is what elevation-wise and BAM it all blurs out into a painterly adstraction. Especially with HoT zones, you guys really need to work on have a 3D map of some sort. I don’t want to be given some arrow that says “go here” but what you have right now isn’t enough.

I love the idea of a jungle, but it is like you all forget this is a game, not some puzzle where we all log in so we can try to find the right path, stairs, jumping mushroom, vine, way point, inclined or declined path, or area to maybe fly too via a network of wind patterns so we can MAYBE complete something while we are logged in. After 2 hours tonight of trying to get to one POI, I gave up and logged off. I’m sitting thinking what the hell reason is there for me to long in tomorrow, or ever!?

Ranger - good class, or are others better?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Harvestr.6052

I’ve always had a hard time choosing a class, but in the end I find you’ll go blind trying to get an answer because really most of them are opinion based. So, in the end, play what role sounds most fun: Pally like class or woodsman?

Seriously though that is what I have to do sometimes. I think in terms of actually role playing….who do I want to be? To hell with the number crunching and theory crafting. Simply who to you want to be? Then save the nit picky research for how to maximize your build.

Great info, thanks guys. I’ll be configuring a system on ibuypower or newegg as they both seem to offer the best customization.

Help on chosing new comp

Hey GW2 gang,

I’m looking to replace my aging computer in 2 or 3 months and was wondering what you all might recommend. The cheaper the better but I want a system that can run GW2 great even when its a WvW zergfest particle effects-palooza! I want a system that will be a great gaming system for a few years too, so want a good vcard and cpu.

I’m looking at the Alienware Aurora but get mixed reviews on Alienware. Some praise them, some say avoid them, so what is the story?

Otherwise, I’m thinking of custom-built via either newegg.com or ibuypower.com. Any recommendations there? So many video cards, so even just tips on chosing one of those would rock.

On my 80 Elementalist I’m lucky if I get 1 badge for 50 kills, no exaggeration. They are literally a MYTH to me now. He is d/d and thus high into toughness so I’m melee. I guess that nurfs my dps even with staff and thus the reason I see no badges regarless of what weapon I’m using.

I created an Engineer, and at lvl 15 with his granades I’m getting 5 or 6 badges and hour. So, it does seems range and AoE gets badges faster. The drop rate shouldn’t be based on your build or class, it should be random with each kill. Maybe those that join in a fight late get lesser chance, so people are not just tagging and running but we should not be penalized if our DPS isn’t the best because we chose to go tanky or support build. Healing and tanking for others should help you earn badges. Basically the current situation is go glass cannon and get badges or go tank or heals and support and watch the drop rate drop to .00001%
