Would more Elite Specs save PvP?

Breaking up build diversity would probably be good for the game’s health, since at the moment we always know what to expect; that Thief’s a DD, that Necro’s going to corrupt boons and that Ele is going to be a healbot. With some more elite specs we might see some shaking up in the meta, but they’d have to balance the new specs properly for that.

I’m somewhat positive that they’re going to be over-the-top powerful at launch though…

Dear OP, tell me what class/build can deal with warrior without external help and without losing point. According to you it is a l2p issue so teach us, noobs, how to deal with war.

Old question but want to give my opinion on the matter as a regular Warrior/Revenant player myself. I’ll just assume that the Warrior we’re talking about is either Demolisher GS M/Sh or the standard Condi War.

Warrior is powerful and easy to pick up, don’t get me wrong, but a fair amount of classes are able to hold their own against them, in particular DH, Revenant, Druid and Necromancer. DH with the amount of blocks and blinds will prove a very frustrating fight for the War as well as all the heals, so even with Signet of Might it’s not fun to fight especially if the DH knows what he’s doing. Revenant is going to demolish Warrior if played correctly due to the life steal that goes through Endure Pain and blocks/evades that are hard to predict. I’ve often held a point against condi warriors as a rev, and I played on gold/platinum level this season. Druids shouldn’t die to a power warrior nor will a good one die to a condi warrior, so they can hold the cap. Necromancer is going to ruin their resistance thanks to corruptions and the chill will keep them running out of CDs, so they should fare well.

Now, since you seem to play Thief I wouldn’t quite suggest going into a 1v1 with a Warrior in an sPvP scenario (Thieves are better at decapping than at dueling) but they can win regardless. Blind and stealth are your best friend, try to predict their headbutt and save those dodges, you want to avoid the most important skills (Rush, Shield Bash, mace counter and mace primal are all obvious animations) and make them waste their Berserker Stance so you can comfortably blind them (don’t forget weapon swaps cleanse it tho). Stealing while they’re Berserking is also viable since their stability will be ripped off and you could proc a Pulmonary Impact. It’s a hard matchup but not an impossible one

Now I’m not the biggest expert when it comes to Warrior or PvE but since this would most likely have to do with raids, I’d suggest no, that’s not a great idea. Warriors will mainly want to be on their GS for the fast attacks and the ability to stack might quickly, but the second set is extremely circumstantial (Mace/Shield for hard CC) and will generally lower the DPS dramatically. Air offers decent DPS while Force would possibly decrease the DPS (mace isn’t known for majestic numbers), so I don’t recommend it.

Were the changes good? Yes, in general they were. The small tweaks to druid, rev and DH just fixes a few of the things that should’ve been implemented in the first place.

But was it enough? No, no it really wasn’t. For me, the changes made here, what we’ve waited for for months now, is definitely below average of what we normally get. The Halloween update is no excuse, it’s the same thing as every other year. Warrior, Necromancer and Thief are almost untouched, when they clearly need some tending to (Necromancer performing well in PvP? Debatable with the lack of survival) or Engineers getting YET ANOTHER NERF that is not needed at all (The daze on gyro destruction is understandable. The 2s Gear Shield is not). And it’s not like that physical damage of BOMBS is going to solve a lot of their issues.

I get that Anet is trying to make some skills more attractive than others, but it’s just not enough. If this is all the balance we’re going to get, it’d be way better to be doing it every two weeks instead of every two months.

You really expect condi mesmers to go for the Domination trait line which is focused on raw power? :p
Really though, most condi mesmers can’t benefit a lot from that rework, if they want to use it they’d be forced to lose a LOT on tankiness (Inspiration) and most wouldn’t think it’s worth it.

i think they expected mes running famous op meta build since 2012 which is 6 /6 /6 /6/6/6/6 build

Yes buff mesmer and remove necromancer as it feels like a close to worthless pvp profession already. Why should i play necro when mesmer and other professions are a lot better at everything and can survive on their own, better dps + kite/reset fight better? I can’t see where is the fun when 2 or more enemy players jump on my necro and im insta killed even with all defensive utilities.

Mesmer isn’t in a good spot, necro either. But you guys still have loads of CORRUPTION with boons (which boosts your damage) whereas mesmers NULLIFY then for a short duration. Also if two people would jump a mesmer, they’d die just as quick as your necro, anything would save for professions with a Get-Out-Of-Jail-Free Card (Engi, War).

Necro needs to have more open builds than being cornered into being condi. That way they’ll become stronger and more reliable.

No, we don’t need MORE power to conditions. As soon as nullifying all boons becomes a thing, using boons will be pointless.

They need to tone down the power creep, not add to it. Otherwise they’ll keep band-aid fixing stuff with more power stuff to counter the stuff that just got added.

Maybe lower access to Stability is a better alternative no? Surely your not dying to Swiftness, Regen or Vigor now?

Well, when Resistance came out, we didn’t immediately think that nullifying all conditions on us would make them useless, did we?

And obviously Swiftness is way too powerful, hasn’t been nerfed ever since launch, hope it gets the nerf hammer after the season (sarcasmsarcasm)

Best thing to do at this point is to reduce all the Aoe damage, Aoe Conditions and Aoe CC being thrown around as well as toning down the amount of boons, then we would be in a better game state the power creep needs to be reduced then all game modes would be healthier and balance would be easier to maintain.

I agree with you, it’s been off the roof ever since HoT came out. The suggestion I proposed was more just to make the shatter mesmer seem more reliable with a buffed trait (OP, maybe. But hey, what isn’t in the game anyway?)

Mesmers are overpowered enough already with their moa, portal and burst or condi spam

Moa has been nerfed, portal is one of the main reasons why you’d bring one into your team, as well as the only condis being minor annoyance is confusion and torment. Mesmer is barely holding on in ranked and if they get any more nerfs they’re most likely out of the meta. This would be mostly for shatter mesmers, meaning power focused and not condi (condi mesmers have nothing to do with Domination) and both the moa and portal have a pretty decent cooldown compared to other very powerful things other classes have.

I’d agree with you if they still had 66% alacrity, mad phantasm uptime and 100% stealth duration, but now? Eh… they’re not so OP as you’d think.

Currently, Resistance is mostly exclusive to Warrior and Revenant, and the latter barely uses it due to the legend being pretty mediocre. As for toning down boon/condition output, that simply won’t happen after the release of HoT. It’d require a complete rework of multiple traits and skills that pulse boons, and that’s a lot more complicated than simply giving us a new condition. As well, this one is very centered towards Mesmer and Necro, so almost no other class will have access to it.

Adding a new condition won’t only effect PvP, it effects everyother game mode. Just because something like resistance isn’t an issue in PvP doesn’t make the issue nonexistent. Fixing some of the underlying balance issues maybe complicated, but that doesn’t mean they should be looking at throwing a quick Band-Aid on it.

Of course this condition would also effect other game modes, and in fact it’d be a serious challenge would it be introduced into say, raids. But even so, the trait Mesmers have, as well as other classes, just simply don’t cope well with the boon/condition output the game is headed in, and I doubt it will change any time soon. The condition would also be very useful to PVE and WvW, and obviously it is still cleansable and dodgeable (shatters) so it has counterplay. As well, the condition is about as rare as taunt; not all classes have access to it, making it a fairly rare encounter.

It was a mesmer thing, ironically. Necro could also benefit from this condition if they’d get some access to it, but it’d also remove the mechanic of boon corruption which is currently a necro’s theme, so it’s one thing for another.

OP: I like the idea. Naturally, resistance would be corrupted into your ‘exposed’ condition and conversely, ‘exposed’ would be transmuted into resistance with corresponding skills/traits, making things more symmetric than they are now. Adding this kind of condition to suitable skills/traait could allow for quite interesting gameplay.

On a technical note, it would have to be decided what happens if you have BOTH resistance and your new condition one you – one would have to override the other (probably the one who was applied first counts).

I have already stated that in the first post, the condition would be prioritized but the Resistance can still be on you, just not effective. As an alternative, Exposed could remove Resistance and vice versa, though it would make the condition a lot less effective.

So, yes, I was bored the other day and tried theorizing something that would help shatter mesmers get back into the game and hopefully help them a bit. What made them so good back in the day was not only their good burst, but also really good boon stripping (trait in domination which lets every shatter remove a boon) since it was really easy to kill a Warrior’s stability and might with a single shatter.

But now, meta and game in general has changed. We got Revenants pulsing boons, Warrior’s pulsing stability, Engi stacking might faster than Mesmer can strip it. In general, the trait has gotten really mediocre. So I thought: “What if we rework the trait so that it will give a condition instead of a minor boon rip that nobody would notice?”

Here’s the suggestion: Would it be too much to ask for if the shatter would now apply a new condition (no name for it currently, so let’s call it Exposed) that nullifies all boons, duration of about 1-1,5s per clone hit. It is basically the opposite of Resistance, and in that matter, overlaps it so it becomes uneffective, meaning the only way to get rid of Exposed is to cleanse it.

An alternative to this would be to give a special uncleansable debuff similar to Berserker Stance, that is someone is unable to gain new boons for a set amount of time (most likely the same as previous suggestion, 1-1,5s per clone). This would make this solely Mesmer-themed, but the condition idea will also let other classes benefit from the condition like Thief or Necromancer.

So, what would you think? Is the idea something noteworthy, or just plain ridiculous?

Do not pair Diamond division with Legendary

All right, this isn’t even funny anymore. I get that matchmaking can take a while sometimes, but matching Diamond leveled players with those in Legendary just doesn’t work, at all.

I mean, it should work in normal circumstances. But what I’ve been seeing, on the last stretch to the legendary division, is people already in legendary that just throw away the games for the others? Why? Because of the acheivements for the legendary backpack.

Okay, I know that SoloQ can always be a risk and a pain in the kitten, but people that have hit Legendary just don’t care if they win or lose anymore. They got it already, and some people just don’t care about the other people in their team.

The result is a lot of pips lost for those in diamond, while the people in legendary can keep doing this for 0 punishment. I hope this can be fixed ASAP, or at least not occur in the next season.

Which food/sigils?

Geomancy+Doom on both sets will always be a safe bet, since geo does damage and therefore makes doom also take effect. You can also try to take Sigil of Cleansing (forgot the exact name, removes a condi on weapon swap) or sigil of Draining if you can rupt a lot. Sigil of Energy is also good if you want more dodges. It’s generally just what you prefer the most.

You seem to favor condition duration of confusion but don’t have anything longer as a condition. I’d suggest taking Super Veggie Pizza to bump your condis to a +20% duration (or 18%) and further improve it with a Toxic Focusing Crystal for another +10% duration, making for a total of 30% condition duration on all condis, and a massive 93% confusion duration.

Tested out Reaper lately and gotta admit that the gameplay felt intriguing. Now, the thing is that I really dislike condi gameplay and everyone seems to be going Carrion or Viper, so I was wondering if there was a build for WvW that can work out for a power necro?

I’ve been testing out D/D with Tempest and it’s the most fun I’ve had on the weapon set so far. Overloading air just deals tons of damage and I can keep up a ridiculous amount of upkeep time on the shock aura with Rune of Surging.

The original caster will get his scaling of condition damage, if you get my saying. There are countless amount of times where I try to burst a necro with a condi overload on my engi, only for it to backfire due to their plague signet and clearly the condition damage is from myself (Or so I think)

I’d test out this theory to be sure when I get home from work if confirmation hasn’t arrived yet

Wouldn’t that ruin the Fast travel vibe Gw2 has got going for it? No idea how it works in WoW as I gave up on it, but I’m pretty sure that if the WHOLE map of Gw2 had to be loaded at the start a lot of PCs would never handle the insane amount of graphical jump and a lot of complaints from lower end PC users (Like me). In short, great idea, but so not worth it.

Although, I will add, putting it as an option would definitely be cool if PCs can handle it

I think a rather complex solution to this is to equip the kit, then take it off and stow your weapon (Assigned in the control settings). I usually do it even on my Asura since I love their stowed walking and it works all right for me. Maybe it’d work for your charr as well?

I’ve seen no shortage in engineers anywhere, and I play all gamemodes. Perhaps it’s just the complexity of having multiple kits which makes people stay away from them, but they definitely have one of the most fun ways to play (Only reason I even bother with PvE is because of Engi being fun in it). PvP they are crazy on the condi and even on power, so celestial engi is in a great spot. Really, the least played one I see are Warriors or Thieves…

Seems like a solid build for the most part, though if you want to go TRUE glass cannon you’d maybe want to take Viper amulet? Also maybe take Sigil of Energy instead of the Hydromancy one (Though I just really am in love with the Energy one on Engi/Ele). But I’ll definitely spend some time testing this evil build in sPvP and see how it goes

Connection problems during gameplay

While I’m playing, every 30 seconds or so all enemies stop moving and I can’t use any abilities or interact with anything, then suddenly everything moves in fast forward and it’s back to normal for another 30 seconds, where it happens again. This is ruining the game for me, this only happens to Guild wars 2, other MMO’s work without this problem… any ideas to fix this?
