I don’t know if it’s bugged, or if it was taken away to dumb-down this starting zone (as with a few other hearts throughout the 1-15 zones), but I can’t manage to get an arena fight going for the renown heart “Help Paenula train troops (level 9)”.
It used to be very fun I remember being in there with loads of Charr all fighting the waves of drake and minotaurs, even if it was only for a short time. Can any developer tell me if this is a bug or NPE change?
Hey Predator, requests seem to have dried up a little recently so I though I’d ask for another
I have a female Charr necro, and I’d like an outfit that has no elements of skulls/death/green/black/evilthings in it. I’d like it to look almost sexy, classy and dignified, only please stay away from typical girly pinks + purples
Just checking back in after requesting the Achilles looks a couple of weeks ago, thought Predator might want to see some results from his ideas.
Only level 50 on my warrior so far, so I haven’t unlocked the Vigil Helmet or the Honor sword, other than that it’s already looking great
I agree with the above for Staff elementalist, it can be pretty chilled out – compared to double-dagger anyway.
Never played a Mesmer as the pink everything gives me a headache.
You are right, the necro forum really is one massive whinge zone. Necro might be good for you as the F1 Death Shroud is a whole other life bar to fall back on. The trouble with both Ele/necro is they both potentially use a lot of ground targeted skills which require more hand-eye coordination and speed than normal spells, just something to think about.
@ Helos.3215: At points of these we see how few really good authentic warrior armors we have Your setup is;
- Vigil’s Honor Helmet
- No Shoulder
- Rampart Warplate with your skin colored sleeves
- Militia Gauntlets / Heritage / Tempered
- Pit Fighter Skirt
- Splint Greaves
“Honor of Humanity” Sword & “Shield of the Wing” ?
Whenever its a part that shouldn’t be covered, dye it your skin’s color. It’s a nice little trick.
I’ve used Charred & Sand, could yet use Earthen.
Thankyou so much, it’s perfect! You must have so much knowledge of all the skins in game to come up with these. Motivated to get all these pieces now
Hey Predator, love your work so far :-)
How about an armour set to look like Brad Pitt’s Achilles from the film Troy?
If it could be done, it would look great on my human warrior.
Things to make it easier:
- Pretty much only one dye is needed thanks to this being a monochrome outfit
- Vigil’s Honour Helmet is perfect for headgear
I don’t know of any chest pieces that are sleeveless like that, though
Edit: Main weapon set will be the classic Sword and Shield
Google search for “achilles brad pitt troy armour” got the best image results for me.
Thankyou and good luck!

Thankyou both for your replies
I think I’ll try AC storymode and see how that goes. So I do storymode to unlock Explorable mode which is lvl 35? And I save the tokens for when I’m lvl 80 or are they used for buying lvl 35 armour? I’m up-to-date with my Leatherworking and Huntsman so do I even need this dungeon armour for levelling?
What server are you on? I’d love a partner too, it is boring on your own doing the Hearts and things :/ I’m on Gunnar’s Hold (EU, not US)
I’ve been playing my Ranger upto lvl.35 atm and I realised I don’t know what I’m supposed to be doing. What I’ve done so far is do my story and complete the zones that each story quest is in; I now have 34% map completion.
My question is, is my only aim to get 100% map completion and finish my story? What do I do along the way to 80 apart from ginding out the Hearts?
I noticed the dungeon in the Charr area but don’t dungeons give level80 armour? Should I be doing that dungeon now or lvl80? Also what other dungeons are there to do and for what levels? (please don’t use abbreviations, I’m a newb). I have no idea either of the gear progression system at end game either.
Finally, WvW: I’ve been afraid to go in since I don’t have all my traits or lvl 80 gear yet. Should I wait till 80 for WvW too?
TL;DR questions in bold

I’m subscribed to a youtube channel for an elementalist (daphoenix555 in case you wondering, he’s a monster), and I’m looking for a similar Warrior fix on youtube.
Someone who regularly uploads content, WvW dungeons sPvP, doesn’t matter as long as it’s impressive/decent. I haven’t been able to find anyone yet :/ aswell as gaining me as a sub, I’m sure other people will likely be interested so please reply anyone out there on youtube

I have not laughed so hard in months, that was the funniest kitten ever!!!
(you gotta play Ranger to understand)
Personally Banners create a lot of faffing about when a battle is moving because you gotta pick em up and put them down again, during which you can’t attack properly.
Regen Banners vs. Healing Shouts
Healing shouts are instant and provide an OK heal on demand
Banners provide regen for a long time however it is much more HoT and doesn’t quickly save your life like a shout can.
However I reckon if you spec for banners and use them properly you can do well, it’s always nice to see variation in warriors perosnally, and I’d say go right ahead and use them.
With banners, go for Mending for condition removal as you won’t have Shake it off,
banners already give you regen making healing signet less useful.
I’m just wondering the difference between these two in terms of their role.
I get the feeling Hammer is Dmg/control
whereas Maces are Defensive/control
Any explanation please?
Blood
Warrior
Guardian
Elementalist
Necromancer
(Ranger)
Iron
Engineer
(Warrior)
Ash
Theif
Mesmer
Ranger
Just my opinion, Necromancer is the odd one out, doesn’t really fit anywhere. (profession) means it could fit but a different legion seems better.
Quick question, does companion’s might even work? When I used it about a month ago it only gave pets about 1/2 second of might, so it was rather worthless since you couldn’t get more than 1 stack on the pet at all times and couldn’t even guarantee the pet was able to attack while under the effects of might. If they buffed it to 5 seconds or something it would be much stronger.
Truth be told I don’t know, there’s might coming in from so many places it’s difficult to tell.
This is my Beastmaster Boon Bonanza build which I use to great success in sPvP and regular PvE although admittedly untested in dungeons so far. (so yeah, it’s for sPvP). I got tired of running the same old Shortbow + trap conditions build and wanted to try out other ways of playing the ranger. This is melee distance mainly so if you ain’t prepared to jump right in wearing medium armour this isn’t for you.

Sword / Warhorn
Axe / Axe
(you can swap the offhands around and change the offhand Axe to another of your choice, but Axe 5 does fantastic AoE, better than Torch 5)
Use with a Lynx(F2 huge bleed) and Jungle Stalker(F2 5might-stacks)
It’s so powerful because the Sword auto-attack gives your pets Might every 3rd strike so the longer you use the sword in combat, the more damage your pet does.
Weapon swaps grant yourself Swiftness and Fury
Pet swaps grant 2s quickness and your pet another 3 Might stacks.
Fortifying bond – any boon you get is shared with your pet. Weapon swapping also gives your pet Fury and Swiftness(actually helps when the enemy is moving).
Dodge rolls grant Protection, helps to keep you both alive, on top of the Regen and Condition removal signet.
Critical hits ALSO give your pet Might and i’m running at ~50% crit chance currently so my two Felines (traited to bleed on their critical attacks + increased condition damage) end up with massive stacks of might. AND THEN using Sick ’em…..the carnage….AND THEN using Rampage as One….words need not be said…..
Pet Might Gain Summary
- Sword auto-attack (1)
- Jungle Stalker F2 (5)
- Pet swap (3)
- Any critical hit (1)
- Rampage as One (every attack you do…… drool)
- Sick ’em (invisible might)
- Fury from weapon swaps + Warhorn 5
The synergy between traits and skills is massive in this build, enemies just drop so fast. Try it out, let me know what you think.

Dagger for the most part, focus is very situational.
Use want you want to use:
Staff can feel quite slow/clunky at times…
but Scepter feels quite weak to me
so I use D/D
6 – I like Ninelives, but Grimlock sounds too much like Rytlock for me.
Lesus Goldmane is mine, (wanted the first name to sound Roman so ends in -us [masculine] and he is gold coloured)
1 – for the pun, atroscious as it is.
My Theif is called Luca Da Firenze (Lucas is my real name c:)
From your experiences, which of these two professions do it better? (standing on a wall casting big AoEs into zergs)
There are blue moas there, on the fortress island, west side of the patch of water. They are in a pen towards the NW side of the island.
Ok thankyou all for such…inspiring replies. Can anyone actually tell me, which races elites best make up for Ele weak elites?
I’ve seen a number of threads complaining about how bad elementalist elites are. Which race (for its elite skils) do you recommend to make up for this?
That’s an interesting way of looking at it, I like your thinking. This is mainly for casual PvE where pets shine so I will definitely be trying that
Thanks for your time
Does anyone have a build focused around maximising the sword damage? The animations are just beautiful on the auto-attack, I don’t care about the root, I just want to use the sword!!
I only found 1 trait which affected the sword, and it was something like “reduces cooldowns by 20%” which is pretty useless considering you don’t use sword 2 ability much.
I’m feeling slightly stale with my characters at the moment, and I want to give engineer another go. I previously had one upto level 14 but lost all interest when I learnt that grenade kits were the only real good damage; grenades are just so boring…
I love the dual pistols and I would love to know if anyone runs a successful build using no grenade, flamethrower or bomb kits, instead just pistols + utilites (turrets I do like though). Or it the engineer destined to just spam grenades?
Used with a MH axe mostly, although I like to change to a sword when killing trash just to freshen things.
Dagger – 4 poison + evade, 5 ranged bleed + cripple
+looks good with a sword
+poison condition is not provided by MH axe so gives more different conditions to cleanse
+cripple helps to close down distance
+heal debuff
+bleed stacks with axe’s bleed
+shorter cooldowns than torch
-sword 3 is poison anyway
Torch – 4 ranged burn, 5 fire combo field + burn
+looks nice with sword + axe
+burns do nice big numbers
-fire trap provides a fire combo field anyway
-no cripple to close down distance to runners
-no built in evade
-both burns, compared to poison, bleed and cripple on dagger
So which is better? This is mainly for PvE, but dabbling in WvW too. I use traps mainly as utilities.
Everytime I hear that line in the opening, I get a semi………..skimmed milk drink to cool me down. It just sounds so powerful!
That is all.
That’s exactly the point, all the weapons are just auto-attack + use up the cooldowns —> switch set and use up cooldowns. The difference being the ranger attacks look plain boring and don’t feel ’good to use in comparison to other classes. You can get the whole weapon swapping experience from all the other classes anyway. I just find it frustrating a class I was really looking forward to playing is so boring/stale.
Ranger to me feels so vanilla, especially the longbow, compared to main who is a guardian. Most of the weapons feel so boring and work with little thought and simply pressing things when they come off cooldown. I love the idea of the class but I can’t seem to enjoy it at all.
Obviously don’t say “well don’t play it then” because I won’t be at the moment, but I would just like to know before I delete the ranger, does anyone know how to make it fun?
