Ferguson’s Crossing
I really don’t see why not if it bears no resemblance to the Sea of Sorrows from GW2. There’s plenty of books out there with the name just by a simple Google search. It really would just depend on the likeness between the two, and thus if yours is an intended copy.
I didn’t know this exists! Pretty neat.
Yeah I’m sure they will come out with the Living Story at some point. Or another feature pack
Yes I believe so.
Just give us option to show/hide mentor tags. Or I will have to start block all crazy mentors which I don’t really want to. Or add some “Help” or “Tutorial” option to settings and show mentors only to people who enable this.
Or allow mentor tag only to people who has commander tag and allow them to change icon to (i).
I was thinking exactly this. All players should have it on by default (Since new players would need to see mentors/might not be able to find the setting). But if someone doesn’t want mentors visible to them, they can just toggle a setting in options or something.
Like it or not, there are map mechanics that some people don’t understand on maps 40+ so limiting the use on map level isn’t smart. For example, the new magumma maps. If someone WANTS to mentor or be mentored on those map mechanics, they should be able to. And when you’re done, turn it on/off.
The way I see it, a Commander Tag is easier to acquire than a Mentor Tag. The 300g + 250 Badges is not that hard to get if you buy your gold with gems. You can technically have complete noobs running around in commander tags.
On the other hand, Mentor Tag is a mastery and masteries are for only level 80 characters. You would have to grind to level 80 if you’re new to the game. Then you have to unlock the mastery after that even.
You could make the argument a new player can buy the gold to craft to level 80 (which may or may not be cheaper than buying 300g). That would skip the 1-80 grind. But that seems highly doubtful because why would a new player want to skip all of the PvE and story content of a game they just bought?
To me, you see quite desperate in trying to get 8 person parties. Maybe if you weren’t so aggressive and sarcastic to the others on this forum, more people would be willing to reply to your idea positively.
IMO the party limit is fine. I’ve never really thought much about it and it really hasn’t been an issue for me. I imagine that this is the case for most players as well considering most people have replied that there isn’t no need for 8 person parties.
Yes, they would be nice for some, but not for others. I play on a less populated server and don’t always like guesting to other servers. A party limit increase would make it more difficult for me to fill my party with players to do dungeons and fractals.
TBH there is no need for 8 person parties. That fact alone is reason for them to not put them in the game.
This is something that would make it easier for some players. Some players would be happy. Anet wants to please as many people as possible though. So they will add things that make people happy. Like more detailed and better LS and more skills.
I would like to see more of Ascalon—specifically its northern reaches—the Blood Legion homelands. Additionally, there will probably be more story regarding the new alliance between Ebonhawk and the charr, since Ebonhawk is controlling the entrance to the crystal desert and whenever that opens up, it will require political moves on the part of charr and humans, mainly.
I would enjoy going back to the Charr homelands as well.
Changing your race would change any race-related skills that you have. Also, it would change and affect any cultural armor you have. You would have armor bound to a character and that character isn’t even the appropriate race.
Not to mention the personal story is an integral part of the game. GW2 is an MMORPG. How many RPG’s don’t have a campaign (which is what the personal story is).
I agree with the other posters who say if you want a “generic” personal story, you aren’t a fan of the game. You can make a new character and level them with crafting.
Don’t be lazy. If you want another character if another race make one. If your character slots are full, buy another. Anet still gets your money that way.
Would you be disappointed? I know I would. I know that may not be even her true target. However, if Anet had this living story end with an Elder Dragon’s death, that’s one less for us to kill. Granted, if she did kill Primordus, I would assume the players would finish him off after she somehow fails.
Many people have assumed/mentioned that each Elder Dragon could be add as part of an expansion pack. But what if they are thru the living story? Would you rather have a DLC campaign to kill each Elder Dragon or have it cumulate at the end of the LS arches?
I do agree as well. There should be more diversity in the LW Daily that’s “Boss Thumper XXII”
Okay, I have been curious about the Jungle Wurm and the energy probes that have woken/attracted it. As far as I know, I assume the energy probes across Tyria will disappear once Scarlet is dealt with, but what about the ones present at the Jungle Wurm sites? Will they disappear? Will they stay?
In my opinion, it would be kind of out of place to only have those three energy probes left on Tyria. I think it would make sense if they go away as well — plus it doesn’t effect the wurm because it is already there and awake.
I’m not quite sure if this has been covered in another post, though I have looked. So if you have any information, I’d be glad to see it!
Having played GW1 for a number of years, I love the Ascalonians as well. However, the issue is they can’t create a story really with them. Essentially, the foefire turned them all into ghosts who reanimate when they are slain.
The issue is that they see literally everyone as an enemy to their kingdom because they do not learn or evolve. (The way I see it, when they are slain, they have no memory when they rise again of how they were killed) Pretty much, they believe that Ascalon still exists as it did when they were alive. That means they see everything as an invader.
They would have no goal for world domination or destruction. But, I agree, Ascalon is awesome.
I didn’t agree with a lot of posters in the thread that was closed, but I do understand the concerns. Since I don’t really care about the extra sprockets (I have the home node), I thought this might work as an alternative:
Modify all ore nodes to include sprockets as a “jewel”. Include it in the list and leave the jewel chances the same.
— everyone, new, old, indifferent, will have chances at getting them. The home node should still drive enough supply to keep the prices reasonable and a fair amount of supply continually in game. I would imagine the prices staying less than most lower tier gemstones, which, to me, is reasonable.Modify the new watchwork pick to be instead, a 20% increase in extra resources, which stacks with the gathering booster, or not, depending on how the gathering booster works with guild banners.
— this still provides 1. the “extra” incentive that most think might have been the point of the new pick’s properties, and 2. an incentive that already exists through other means and is consistent with other items in the gem store and in the game. It also shouldn’t unduly affect players that choose not to buy it.
While I’m not sure if it’s possible, this is a very reasonable way to solve the issue some people have with the pick. On the other hand, the players who have the pick can still get sprockets.
Your reasoning would be sound, if not for the fact that defensive/support roles have little to no use in this damage dominated game.
Depends on how you want to play, really. I enjoy helping other players stay alive/be more powerful. Damage may be king, but if you look at the boons you hand out as part of your own damage output…I wouldn’t mind standing next to him in the zerg.
Sucks that it doesn’t get appreciated though. If you’re in an intense fight you’re not likely to notice you have some extra might or fury except by the fact that you’re still standing at the end.
This. Many people would believe that support is useless, but its really not. I enjoy helping people in zergs when I play guardian. This armor set would definitely give a boost to the players I buff and myself.
All depends on play style and how you enjoy the game.
I want Cantha back.
I’ve played a vast majority of the LW content (besides the few over summer 2013) and I have felt like the over all mood of the LW is just too light-hearted. Looking around the forums, I’ve seen a few old posts discussing the same topic about the mood GW2 sets. However, I would really like to see what all you other players are now thinking about the mood (and hopefully receive dev input as well
). I think the mood needs to be darker.
Anyways, as mentioned above, I believe a major issue regarding the presentation of the LW content and the Living Story is the mood it sets. Many of the updates that I’ve played have had this light-hearted and almost jovial mood. I know that many players feel like the entire Scarlet LS content has been kind of bad and presented poorly. While I’m not sure if a darker mood would of fixed the LS, it would of helped certainly. Perfectly honest, I sometime’s feel like GW2 is geared towards little kids. This has resulted in many of my friends abandoning the game for other MMOs that have a more mature feel.
What I miss the most and what I think the LS really needs to do is look back at GW1 and the mood that it presented. That game was certainly dar more dark than this game, yet the plight (Elder Dragons) is far greater than in GW1. I don’t understand. The mood in Ascalon in GW1 I felt was pretty good. The entire storyline of Prophecies was pretty good I think – and the mood really helped. Anyone who has played GW1 knows what I’m talking about and if you haven’t played GW1, I certainly recommend you do so.
I also played GW Factions and the mood was never like the mood is like in GW2. All of the threats from the first GW and its expansions managed to set this darker tone. That’s not achieved here in GW2 sadly.
Out of all the LS content, we haven’t really had that wow fact or felt anything in the emotional department. I want to be able to walk into a city and feel the sadness and the fear and the worry that the elder dragons have caused. Or even that the LS has caused for that matter. I don’t really feel much of anything as I slay the countless beasts Scarlet has thrown at us.
I haven’t read anything or heard anything about how the future of the Living Story is gonna play out, but I’ve read that the devs have listened to players and plan to make it better. I really hope that the new LS season manages to give off a darker vibe than this season.
Anyone’s input or information would be welcome!
Okay, so you kind of get the point. Multiple events happening in the world at once. Players get to help rebuild and repair the world around them slowly. Maybe they helped a farmer by gathering tons of food ingredients and rebuilt his windmill. Now he gives x amount of random food ingredients to the players daily. These NPC’s won’t forget the players helped them. They will be thankful.
AND, players have a sense of achievement. They can say they contributed to the world. They rebuilt something. They made it even better than before. And all that they have built stays in the world. Months later when players walk by and see that little fort they helped build, they will get a sense of nostalgia. Maybe ANet let the fort fall into ruins now 3 months after the events or whatever. Maybe the fort has some NPCs living in it now. That doesn’t matter! What does is the players think back to that epic fight with their guild members and love this game a little bit more.
Now for the new players… It’s not fair they don’t get rewards for doing the LS that happened a month ago, right? Well, I don’t think they should get the little Candy Corn Node or the Krait Shard Obelisk. So I am suggesting that EVERYONE who does those certain achievements maybe gets a rare loot bag as well (or something of that nature). So, if you did the LS when it was actually going on, you got the unique item and a rare loot bag. If you didn’t do it when it was out, you get the loot bag.
The issue for repeating LS if you haven’t done it? You guys can place a LS historian or something of that nature in LA and all the other main cities. Players can talk to them and relive the events that they missed. Or maybe they are in the location of the event…and they meet a storyteller who remembers the events that took place. That NPC whose house everyone rebuilt two months ago? He’s here to retell that story! Players who missed out can talk with NPC’s like that in the zone to relive LS content as well.
So in summary:

I’m more convinced turning to a traditional content release concept rather doing this episodic thing would be better for GW2. The instances with Roxx and Braham, Scarlet’s playhouse etc could have been triggered after one finishes their living story as the next chapters so people can do them at their own pace and experience a personalized story. Doing it that way would allow for things like recognition from NPC’s or slight alterations based on our characters past choices.
Meanwhile the Molten Facility or Aetherblade retreat would have been better as new permanent dungeons, with explorable paths as well as their own rewards and armor.
In my opinion a game just shouldn’t try be a TV show.
I’m not sure the two need to be mutually exclusive. What if every X amount of time that seemed reasonable, the story simply kept being expanded in the way you’re discussing rather than be released in one big chunk?
But if you’re not up to that point in the story arc, you can play it when ever you get there.
Hi Colin, I agree with you that they do not have to be mutually exclusive either. However, TV shows show decisions, actions, themes, etc. in episodes later in the series. I believe that ANet can definitely exceed in this living story if you were to tweak a few mechanics and ideas regarding the LW.
For one, the living world should have permanent or semi-permanent impacts on the world. The way the LS is set up currently, the world seems like an instance (even though it is the open world). This is because the content leaves no lasting impression on the environment – or the players. I’ll give you a couple examples of what I mean:

Okay, so there are a few examples. Now how do we make these Living Stories more alive? Well, one way I believe to do that is something you guys often do. I know that many people do not like heart quests that say to gather X amount of whatever. But that is what I am suggesting. But here is the catch!
So you have all this destruction caused by the current or passed LS right? Houses destroyed, bridges burned, farm fields ruined, and lives destroyed. You get the picture. Now every server has to come together to help these poor people. All of this would be server based, and take a few days or weeks to fully complete. For example:
There is seriously no reason for temporary content. I understand they want to make the world feel as if it’s living and changing constantly, but that isn’t how people play MMO’s, people actually want to experience the story, not to have to read about all the things they missed playing. What about players who start in a years time, are they going to have to find all the old articles and summaries of content online to have a clue what’s happened…
I agree. That will turn new players away and confuse the kitten out of them. It’s not fair to them really… Not to mention they’d come to a game that has no new content. Expansions and perma content make MMO’s way better. Even as a new player IMO.
When I saw this topic I was SO HAPPY.
I’ve been saying for awhile now that the living story is wasting Anet’s money! They spend time on great additions and then take them away sometimes a few weeks later! When was the last time Anet has added substantial PERMANENT content? Not to say the somehow to manage to create more bugs with every update…
One bug for example is the commander tags in WvW.
Anyways, I think Anet is losing their touch or they are being mislead thinking people want this temporary content. I’m down for a living story. But leave the stuff there. Add more. People forget about old content anyways, so why take it away?
I just want some awesome kick-kitten permeant content.
From what I’ve seen it’s like all of IoJ are glass cannons! Lol. Ferg zergs have wiped IoJ all afternoon! We plow right in and their entire Zerg just collapses…
I’ll see you IoJ on tonight! (Ferg night crew)
There is a limiter! A tier 8 server can’t play a tier one. Someone on my server (FC) posted a link on how it works and that there are percentages for each server. There were just a few unlucky matches! I for one can say the IoJ-FC-DR is a decent match up!
Yes, the touch pad would help. However there are issues like, the sheer amount of menus, and how would you move your character at the same time as you view a menu? That’s something much simpler on a PC. And if this would happen, if the console and pC versions share the same world, I think consoles are at a sever disadvantage.
You would lack all they keys necessary to access menus.
Menus are over complicated anyway. They can be simplified without losing of the games features.
PS4 controller has TWO touchpads. Menus can also be controlled through them.
There’s one on the front center… Where’s the other?
You would lack all they keys necessary to access menus.
I agree to an extent. I like the living story. However, the fact that they make entirely new maps and dungeons only to be used in one event for one moth seems like a waste to me honestly. I also think the living story is unfair to new players who never had the chance to do things. They should leave everything open, but just add more.
Anyways, yes! More dungeons.
And if you would use a keyboard somehow with a console, you basically have a computer with a flat screen.
You still usin a CRT over there?
I made no mention about CRT? And if you’re insulting me, then you’re quite pathetic.
I’m saying, GW is too complex for simple controller based controls. You’d use a keyboard and mouse. So basically you are using a computer. That makes the need for GW on next gen consoles nonexistent. If you wanna play, get a PC. And if you want a larger screen, I know someone who players GW on a 48 inch.
Sure.
As long as it will never, ever be available outside of an NPC. Preferably one that is permanently stuck at your Hill/Citadel/Border.
I agree. I was thinking your main spawn in each WvE map. That way you can’t do it on the fly.
Badges of Honor to reset World Ability Points. It’s simple and it would allow players to not commit to a certain skill(s). Maybe someone decided 20 ability pints wasn’t worth that one extra supply.
They mean ‘WvW skills’ not ‘skills’
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/World_Experience#WXP_Upgrades
This is what I mean. WXP. I think this would be a great use of Badges of honor if you disliked your choices.
The controllers wouldn’t have adequate support for the game. Not enough buttons. And if you would use a keyboard somehow with a console, you basically have a computer with a flat screen. I don’t think they will do that. Plus are you forgetting that GW2 is more than 24GB? That’s a lot to run on a console.
I’d hope architectural style would be selectable as well. Some guilds might want Sylvari trees or Norn mead halls or Asura labs …
I think of all the MMO’s I’ve played LotRO did the best guild areas. For those who haven’t seen it: A zoned area of each architectural style is set up. When you enter, you pick which iteration to join; it has a list of number of available houses inside. As the instances get sold out, more get opened. Individual guild members can each buy and decorate a home in the instance.
I would like to have different architecture as well. But I don’t think you should ask too much from Anet all at once. I would expect a single style at first with more releases at later dates.
However, individual homes are iffy. I’m not sure about that. This isn’t the Sims after all. We would need a balance.
Mounts and GW don’t go together. Guild Wars has never used mounts. I think that makes Anet unique and innovative. They think of different ways to travel quick (waypoints). I wouldn’t want the Dominion of Wings ruined like that. I personally hope that they will introduce a new race (Tengu) as a playable race. So, that would make the Dominion into a city or newbie area.
It’s part of the group event daily (complete 2 group events), you just get to pick which group events you want to do rather than having to do specific ones.
This is true.
I think it should be an extension of PvP maybe. Not many players do PvP, and opt to instead do WvW
I think a good idea would be to have a set amount of Badges of Honor to reset your WvW skills just like you can reset your traits. That way players can experience which skills they like most and aren’t bound to certain ones.
Maybe a stack of 250 badges or something to reset your points.
Yes, this is such a great idea, i miss the Guild Hall in GW1 so much. It make the Guild more like a “Guild” instead of a “list”/“tittle”.
I agree. Guilds are hard to see as a “guild” without a Headquarters or base. All the factions in the game have bases. I’d like to have a home for my guild just like the Vigil does.
Great idea man! I agree.
I vote for an asura made blueish box that is bigger on the inside. We have seen it in the SAB. Another enterprising asura could appropriate that tech and use it to start up a lucrative business of creating customish gathering places for guilds, councils, peace treaties. Choose from 5 themed layouts and choose from 7 amazing color schemes. Enjoy you hall.
Warning the space is known to rarely glitch and aspects of its original programming may leak thru. These claims of digital monkeys, rabbits and more are pure slander and have never been proven
That is also a good idea for how to get to the instance. SAB after all is an asura invention. The asura are known to take things to the next level. Your Homestead wouldn’t even be real at all! Just like SAB. I actually love that. No need to create a new area for a Homestead.
SAB-like instance guild Homesteads. Lets make it a noticed suggestion!
and other guild could invade your land! Guild Wars!
this is so great! like the idea.
Eh. I wouldn’t say that. I agree there should be a GvG element in the game. By bit in your instance like invading per say. Maybe an arena is an option to build if you want GvG in the Homestead.
I agree. I hate seeing my asura being cut off
Honestly, all they have to do is center the asura. The rest of the races are fine.
I like the mists idea. Anywhere near Southsun would make the Sea of Sorrows too cluttered. I would assume the portal would be in LA, or a button in your guild menu like in Gw. As I said, I like the idea.
Yes, a portal in LA probably. The button idea is a good one too. Just like the buttons for WvW.
Kinda long post but a good read. It be nice if Arena net dig into their past lore and resurrect this central part of GW1 as a new class.
Seeing as there’s 3 adventurers 3 scholars a new soldier to finish the trios would be a logical next step.
Hoping arena net takes something from this post and make some awesome.
I agree with that. Three from each armor class makes sense. I’d like to see a third Heavy profession. This class seems like a reasonable one. And I love GW1, so past lore would be amazing.
I am totally pro for this idea Herschie, but one question: Where would they put it? Where would they have all these villages? I mean it has to make sense lore wise. Other than that, I would love to see Guild Halls implemented at last. Maybe then they will add GvG and Alliances.
As I said, similar to Southsun. Or any other location even in Tyria which does not have a developed area. Or even this, somewhere in the mists. I mean, WvW is in the mists after all. Huge castles and towers…why not simple Homesteads too.
And, every guild would use the same “portal” or entrance to the Homesteads. The Homesteads would be instances. This means that they would be like your personal instances in the personal story line.
Everyone can go in, but everyone in different guilds sees their own guild’s Homestead.
Well, personal houses as cool as that’d be, they weren’t part of the original idea
The point of the Homestead is that the guilds would have a place to call their own. The most powerful guilds on the server deserve to have something they can call their own, right?
Basically, it just gives guilds more things to do together and allows them to make something unique. It allows guilds to build something and be proud of.
This suggestion is bad. This isn’t just a PvP or WvW game. You are supposed to get to 80 yourself and you have different races to make the story each time a bit different. If you want a game just for the WvW or PvP action, go play CoD of Battlefield. I think they both offer the Player vs player experience right away. XD
Seriously, play the game the right way. The crafting to 80 is good enough if you want it. And like others have said, it would probably be cheaper.
Can someone close this topic? It’s the worst idea I’ve seen. XD
Ow and also make it so that we can loan money from the bank. If you can’t pay it of the game even sent some goons after you wich are of increasing difficulty depending on how far your behind on payment and how much the debt is.
That would be awesome idea. Having goons spawning in randomly behind and attack you while you are busy with something else… Man, this is brilliant
If the goons defeat you they take your armor and T6 matts as collateral.
So I’m just going to take out a loan for 211G and not pay it back, they can attack me all they want because I have enough money to just buy back the armor.
OR
I take out a loan, and don’t pay it back. I don’t have the money and they take my armor. They keep attacking me because I didn’t pay it back. I have no armor so I die ll the time. I can’t make money to pay it back. Game = Ruined.
Terrible idea.
Idea:
Okay, so I love GW2 just like all of you guys. And I know that Anet has said that they may add guild halls in the future. Personally, I don’t understand how GW can be GUILD Wars if the guilds are one of the most neglected parts in the game. I love the missions, and it’s a step in the right direction for sure, however, I couldn’t believe that they excluded content like guild halls in the release.
I was thinking today about guild halls as I was destroying some Hylek houses in an event chain and watched them regenerate. And an idea struck me.
What if instead on a single guild hall…guilds had an entire homestead (a large plot of land). This homestead would start off as a small town with just resident NPC’s, but you could upgrade them with guild merits, influence, coin, and crafting materials (more on this later). This upgrade system would be similar to the WvW system for camps, towers, keeps, etc.
Research/Building/Upgrading:
You would “research” or “buy” an NPC, say a banker for influence, guild merits, coin, and materials (green logs for building & platinum for the vault). Then in the banker NPC would be “invited” to your homestead and set up (meaning that you town would now have a bank building). And every merchant, armor, weapon smith, etc., would add a new building to your homestead.
Now, the small town would grow eventually as you invite new NPC’s. But your grand town shouldn’t be made out of old thatch and wood…so there is an “upgrades” NPC. Maybe he’s called a contractor (Another NPC that you have to invite). He and his builders would upgrade your homesteads into nice and smooth stone and steel.
Location:
How does Anet make every guild that purchases a Guild Homestead aplot of land in the world? That’s easy, an instance basically. Just like how you race’s main city has a personal instance, maybe out in the Sea of Sorrows or south of Southsun, an island was discovered and guilds were invited to found towns on it. That’s not my decision. Anet makes the stores!
Getting There:
So, the question is how to get there? Easy answer. Just like everything else, and Asura gate. Those little guys can go anywhere!
There would be a gate in Lion’s Arch (possibly). This gate when walked thru would take you to your guild’s Homestead. You could even take your friends from other guild’s along as long as they are in your party.
And if you don’t have a purchased Homestead for your guild, you go to a little area with a guild NPC from which you can buy a Homestead or go thru the gate again. An outpost on the island. This would be a public place like any other area (LA, Divinity’s Reach, etc.)
Events:
These Guild Homesteads could even have their own events take place in which the guild helps out. Maybe a house catches fire and guild members have to run buckets of water to the house in time before it burns. (event chain here) And if they fail, they would carry lumber to the house in another event to rebuild the house. Maybe you need to fend off a bandit attack or stop the local wildlife from eating the sheep.
In return for doing these “events”, there would be a stockpile building which stores items that the NPC’s make such as logs, ores, or foods maybe. And only guild members who are allowed to access it would be able to take these materials. Remember how I mentioned crafting materials would be needed to make buildings too? Well, you could also deposit materials into the stockpile to upgrade and build buildings with.
Conclusion:
In essence here, the guild is responsible for an independent town. This town would (slowly) gather crafting ingredients on its own – making it self sustaining. However, guild interaction is a must. If neglected, the event chains (fires, bandits, etc.) would destroy the Guild Homestead which would have to be rebuilt in other event chains. This encourages guild interaction and creates a nice guild community. Literally.
Obviously, this would involve some work on Anet’s part. So, I would imagine only one version or style would be released at first. However, like the different locations of Guild Halls in GW1, I would hope there would be different locations on the islands for the homesteads (forest, beach, valley, plains, etc.) This would help make a guild hall more unique.
Breakdown:
-Guild Homesteads
-Upgradable buildings
-Evolving town like the personal story instance
-On some new island
-Events in the instance
-Great way to get to know your guild mates and create a close guild.
Okay, so I was thinking about siege devourers today, and I thought it would be a great device for WvW. I looked it up and saw a topic on it.
I imagine it would basically be a mobile catapult. I mean, the catas have wheels but don’t move already. And it also brings back a bit of GW1 nostalgia. I loved that game.
And I personally think that things like the siege devourers and other GW1 elements. And just imagine, Anet would erlease all these GW1 elements on a month that is special to GW1.
WE NEED SIEGE DEVOURERS.
