Ability to inflict high dmg without getting revealed. When power thief attacks me, he gets revealed, which gives me opportunity to strike back. There is no such thing when fighting Ghost thief. Only way to force him out of stealth is to use optional utility item which is very easy to predict and avoid. Standing in black powder doesnt rlly work, because you have to predict movement of invisible player and thieves with brain wont stack stealth near you. I even tried staff to interrupt stealth stacking, but 3rd skill got evade frames, so he wont hit you with heartseeker.
Few days ago I was roaming with druid. Suddently I received load of conditions. I removed them, placed stealth trap. Thief got revealed, but got away with shadowstep and shortbow. He kept me following for hour. I spend 12 traps and got him to 1/3 of hp once. It was like playing wvw with fractal instability: you receive stack of conditions every 25 seconds and all you can do it is to remove them and go on. Is that kind of build and play-style you want to defend?
Yes please. Show us video of killing people with engi/mesmer/druid/DH without being revealed.
PS.: afk players dont count.
PSS.: feel free to try it also with warrior, revenant or ele.
Mesmers could always apply damage even when stealthed via clones.
I keep seeing this used in these threads by ignorant people. There is a clear difference.
1. Those clones in a condi build don’t do much, they either shoot winds of chaos or backfire for a whopping 3s of burn every 6s.
2. Those clones are incredibly easy to kill and finally the biggest point…
3. You can actually see what is attacking you.
Don’t get me wrong I’m against stealth camping mesmers and I do appreciate a mesmer can shatter clones to apply conditions but it also reveals the mesmer.
…
I think facts alpharma pointed out are quite simple to understand. Yet it seems people cant comprehend it.
It’s pretty clear, what he’s trying to say. Good players left to play OW and he plays agains average/bad opponents. Comprehending of written text can be sometimes difficult :P
Cool build, but its got a small problem…
ObstructedObstructedObstructed
WTF??
I think you should apologize to Swagger, because he was most polite to you.
Its old power death shroud necro build. Seems like you just took it, gave it a name and made pretty video about it.
I know why it looks bad: you have big white wings…
I have to agree with Sadu – no, just no.
If you want to dps with scrapper (althought standard power grenadier is better for that), I would go with something like this:
Just a detail: because of RF and Barrage cast time you can use only 1 barrage and 2 RF in 30 seconds of fight, which is minus 12k for longbow.
I always play staff ele, but I have practised scepter and noted the build and so on just in case. Today I was in a low end AC PUG with another staff ele who asked me to switch, which I did.
God it was miserable.
I got my pre-stacks off, 18 might, not bad for a beginner I thought. Alas, few people deigned to stand in them.
Then I tried to stack might on the Graveling trash… knocked all over the place, no stability/aegis, lost half the might and both the conjures.
It hit me during the first skip: scepter/dagger has no realistic swiftness, and neither the guradian nor the warrior are applying group swiftness. I failed one skip (back aggro), first in AC for a while.
For utilities I used Arcane Wave, LH, Icebow. Nobody would use my spare bow for love nor money, it was sat there on the ground at the end of every fight. But the guardian kept stealing the lightning hammer, oh yes.
I dropped a few fire spells on one of the big Graveling burrows in the room just before Reilquary WP in P3. It didn’t die. This is, like, cognitive dissonance. Lava Font + Meteor obliterates any burrow, and associated wildlife. I had to turn around and go back for another Dragon’s Tooth.
Oh, and the other ele, the one on staff? Clearly not a believer in lava fonts. But the guardian did keep placing symbols, so I probably blasted something with LH.
It sure felt like I got more aggro than normal. Could it possibly be that some of the other “zerk” people were telling fibs?
There is a splendid moment in one of DEKeyz video guides where she says something like “if you believe you will have perfect defences, you can use Arcane Brilliance as an extra blast finisher”. Would anyone like to give me some advice on playing scepter/X might stacker in groups that aren’t like that?
My advice is: play D/F in PUGs instead of scepter/x.
Bump bump bump bumpidi bump
There is no tanking in PvE as you may know it from other MMOs. PvE is about dmg, support and crowd control. Check Obal’s guide.
Dark side is good side. It’s just matter of bad PR. So from now, Dark side is looking for new PR manager. Reward: weekly big box of cookies.
Iam afraid that this build is so outdated, that it wont work in PvP outside of Practise mod. You lack dmg, you lack survivability. Even skilled player wont make this build work.
Had a great experience a short while ago in fractals where someone criticised my Warrior build (Regen Tank) because I wasn’t running the full zerk meta (Which I personally hate on Melee based characters)
in the end 3 guys dropped out/rage quit and I found a new party and finished the Aetherblade fractal
about 3-4 weeks ago I was again in the Aetherblade fractal with the same Warrior build and with a very friendly group this time
we got up to the Boss (ya know that annoying Asura with the golems and the room with the laser beams) and unfortunately my party being mostly glass canons got whipedsince I was the only one alive it was pointless to stay on the stack spot so Instead of just dying like most teams would start saying
instead I started running around the room with nothing but melee weapons (Greatsword/Sword+Shield) and completed the boss Solo by killing the last 3 golems on my own..
it’s moments like this which have happened to me many times in the past that make me look back at those comments from arrogant players mocking my builds and think.. yeah who’s builds sucks now lol
Yours build m8. If you did damage, your party could have survived.
Im sorry to say, but its bad build for dungeons – its too selffish, you have almost zero group support and dmg isnt so great – youre missing important dmg modifiers. Iam sure it works in open world – everything works there.
It may work for wvw roaming, but there are much better builds and youll get eaten alive by other good roamers.
Many people in PUGs dont care, that they are carried, that they waste time of other players. They just “play in the way they want and you cant tell them whats wrong, or GTFO”. Thats pretty selfish a rude behaviour. As Harper said, they have to be kick swifttly and mercilessly, because theres no other way to deal with them (no matter how nice you are, when speaking with them).
PS: Iam not talking about first timers, but about ppl who play for longer time, yet they dare to bring 4 signet guardian, flamethrower engineer and bearbow ranger to dungeon group.
1. shield is not effective in PvE
2. Pure heart works on teammates, but healing is low, even with cleric gear
3. Unscathed Contender works only on guardian, and those 20% bonus wont help you, cause in cleric gear you deal low dmg
4. you have no projectile defense (except shield 5, lol)
5. you cant effectively blind trash mobs, because you dont have at least 3 points in radiance trait line
If it works for you, use it. But I think you can bring much more to party with metabuild or its modification. It looks more like wvw build.
My apologize, this video was in Rethmar’s topic, I thought he was its author.
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/guardian/The-Immovable-Object-Tank-Heals-PvE
Actually Rethmar is serious. He made this video about healing guardian in PvE: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oueBpmhAU-o. I couldnt stop laughing when Í saw that
PS. also he is usings shield in PvE
Number of condition removals in this build is… exactly zero!
Edit: Pardon me, Overcharged shot removes cripple, chill and immobilize. Yeeey

You can keep pewpewing with longbow, knockbacking everything and doing pitifull damage, just use spotter and frost spirit, pretty please…
I would also like to thank you for your polite and intelligent thread.
Longbow has high burts but low sustain dmg, compared to greatsword or sword. Closer you are to target, lower it is and in dungeon many times youre very close to target. Its unefficient against multiple targets. A many rangers use PBS when it goes off cd (same goes for other classes, yet KBs skills are most annoying). Those are facts.
If youre not that kind of ranger, I dont know why you take it so personaly and youre so bothered by this thread.
Please, use frost spirit and spotter when being in dungeon group. It can be easy incorporated in your built. Please…

Haha, sure… As long as you are playing your class specific meta, complete with party buffs, and can stay on your feet for more than 5s. Otherwise… I might just drop all my pet boons for healers clarity (to mop you off the floor) and swap frosty for protect me so
I don’t get downed while kneeling by your corpse…To nail the last stake in the coffin, I’ll even swap out spotter for arrows shoot through targets if I detect low DPS allies. If you see skilled Rangers running non-meta it may have more to do with you being horribad.
Thank you for “polite and intelligent” reply.
But I actually havent seen skilled ranger WITHOUT spotter and frost spirit.
My build is for support and healing. Frost Spirit is a standard for me, as is my massive healing over time. It does a fair amount of damage, but it’s much better at getting the group as a whole to do tons of damage while living through big hits.
I didnt start this to criticize ranger as class, you dont have to defend yourself. Its a very good class with interesting mechanics capable of doing great in groups. I meant it to criticize rangers who brings nothing to group, camp in longbow and refuse to learn. Thanks to those ppl you can see in LFG: “P1, no rangers”, “Zerk rush, no rangers”, etc.
(my main in engi, but I have ranger, so I have clue what this class is capable of)
I don’t mind if people are optimal I’m doing my best to have fun. My focus maybe different that yours. My point is if you insist that other are optimal check yourself first.
I rather you have fun. I rather you stick it out when the run isn’t perfect. I rather players learn to get throw cm without stealth or ac with out ice bow. These thing are optimal but often hide a players inablility to dodge or deal damage. Sorry if it doesn’t matter to me that we finish a minute or two faster.
Iam not talking about optimalization, about finishing as fast as you can, about skipping half of dungeon with stealth.
Youre playing with 4 other ppl to overcome a dungeon full of loot. And I think every player should somehow contribute to group and support it. What else can ranger bring to group except spotter and spirits? Water field, 10 sec lasting, with 30s cd? Soft cc in form of traps?
Yes, we all just want to do what we want and we live in hippie-land :P
With spotter and spirit your party can do things faster and smoother. Whats wrong with that?
Please, use frost spirit and spotter when being in dungeon group. It can be easy incorporated in your built. Please…

Is this trolling or you mean it seriously?
A few PvE tips:
Activating signet of fury gives you adrenaline that you can then use for your longbow F1 skill to drop a fire field and then you and your team can spam blast finishers.
Using burst skills gives you an extra dodge if you have 15 points in strength which can come in really handy if you really need that evade.
Sword 5 will block everything for its entire duration as long as they aren’t melee attacks.
So warrior tricks are in fact skill and trait tooltips?
What about setting in game options “self-priority”, which will gives you priority to finish your last combo field. And when you uncheck this setting, you just finish last combo field placed on ground. So you could check/uncheck it depending on your build and gameplay. Also idea to overwritte enemy combo fields is very interesting.
Yep, this could work for WvW, but its hard to decide what gives more survivability: Tool kit or Shoes. Also Throw wrench will allow you to deal more dmg.
And when you get immobilized, your only way to remove it is Overcharge shot, which may hit enemy and cancel your stealth.
I wouldnt use SD berserk for roaming, its better for small grp where others can cover your weaknesses.
Weapon: Berserk rifle + Superior sigil of fire
Armor: Berserk + Divinity runes
Trinkets: Ascendant berserk
PvP: Berserk amulet + Divinity runes
Utility: Med kit, Tool Kit, Rifle turret, Utility Goggles, Supply Crate
Traits:
- explosives 10: incendiary power
- firearms 30: sitting duck, rifle mod, modified ammunition
- tools 30: speedy kits, static discharge, adrenal implant/scope
So far I tested this build in hotjoins and few dungeons. Its dmg is superior to pre-patch SD rifle build, but it share all its weaknesses.
Rotation: magnet+prybar (1st condition – confusion), immobilize (3 conditions: immobilize + vulnerability and criple from Sitting duck), burning from Incediary powder, bleed from Sharpshooter or Blunderbuss ? 6 conditions on target = your dmg including 20% dmg increase from rifle mod and enduring dmg x (1 + 6x 0,02) (I believe modified ammunition is multiplicative)
Yes qjons, its should. All your direct physical dmg is increased by 2% per condition when wielding rifle or pistol = doesnt work when you have kit on.
This trait is clearly made for power or hybrid builds using rifle or pistol to deal dmg.
This trait is awesome for SD power builds:
- I think its multiplicative, not additive (iam not 100% sure, still testing)
- rotation: magnet+prybar (1st condition – confusion), immobilize (3 conditions: immobilize + vulnerability and criple from Sitting duck), burning from Incediary powder, bleed from Sharpshooter or Blunderbuss →
Your dmg including most traits (Rifle mod, Enduring damage) X 1,12 (6 conditions on target)
- allmost all the time youre using rifle
