I can’t tell what you’re trying to do. Some sort of hybrid? If yes you need at least some form of might stacking, aka HGH. HGH nades is an absolute beast for small groups, since others can take the hits and you can just melt people from 1500 range

https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/engineer/HGH-might-stacking-power-vs-condi

Yeah, it seems a bit all over the place. I used to run a pure condition build, and happened to have the rabid left over from that. My only other armor set is berzerker and soldier’s, which disppointed me. I had decent success but I wanted a change of pace and ended up with, well, that. Never tried an HGH nades before.

i believe this build is along the lines of what you want
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vcEQFAUlUUpkrtbxELseNiMSRnJaiUkf63nHv1DChA-zUCBYjAkIAZmKrJqCiVhFRjVVTQWtATVKp+EKrkCAmhRA-w

-power dmage comes from power, crit damage, and crit chance. with celestial you get those stats as well as defensive stats that you need to survive without losing a huge chunk of damage from rabid gear.
-tool kit sets up kills and blocks attacks. it’s amazing and you need cooldown reduction on its abilities
-you need permanent swiftness for wvwvw. you need it to escape. you need it to chase. and you need to dodge to survive any kind of onslaught. without vigor or an energy sigil you will die. every time.
-this build focuses on battle sigil, enhance performance, and noble runes to really stack might. you get a LOT of might from this combo. yuo get hgh caliber might stacking without wasting trait points to get hgh. this really improves your hybrid-ish damage though you are more power oriented.
-healing turret is superior to med kit in almost all scenarios.
-if you don’t want to craft celestial gear, then knights is a suitable replacement.

I used to have speedy kits in there, but I changed it out for Energized Armor for the extra power. I can see what you mean though, lack of swiftness has gotten me down more than I’d like. And yeah, Tool Kit is a skill that I’ve pretty much never gone without no matter what build I go for. The utility is just too kitten ed good lol.

Hello all, this is my current engineer build.

http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vcEQFAUlsTpkrtbxELseRiEqgECSRe5XiKoffe8WtFEC-zkxAUBgcYR0YrkFRjVtgpKJiq9JFRrGA-w

I’d like to ask, what can I do or change to make this a bit better for WvW? Particularly solo/small group fights? I especially have no idea what to do with the armor. I tried going zerk, but that was a bit squishy, and pvt cranked out far too little damage for the extra survival to be worth it. Any and all help is appreciated.

We all do. If the AA was interruptable, and maybe pets dodged with you, I’d be content with ranger.

I dunno, population charts would show classes are pretty evenly spread.

And if... GW2 didn't had leveling?

People want a carrot. Simple as that. Take away the carrot in GW2, and they move on to a game that provides a carrot.

People don’t want a carrot. That would be what OP proposed. People want to have an unobtainable carrot dangled in front of them.

Doesn’t mean the sword is uuuuseless. The #2 and #3 have saved my life a couple times.

No. There’s no real workaround for the rooting. You just have to kind of predict when heavy attacks are coming and then just not attack like half a second in advance and dodge.

You’re assuming all players are new to MMO’s or video games in general. I’m quite sure most of the playerbase has played action games or MMO’s in the past, and aren’t just walking around going “kitten kitten I don’t know what to do!”

Sun Tzu famously said that if a general gives orders, and his soldiers fail to carry out the orders because it is unclear what they’re supposed to do, then it’s the soldiers’ fault. But if a general gives clear and unequivocal orders, and yet the soldiers fail to follow them, the soldiers must be disciplined.

A leader with bad communications skills is a terrible leader and should be removed from his position. That is hardly the soldier’s fault.

What future "Kits" do you want?

Not that this will ever happen, but if it did:

I would want race based kits. An Asura Kit or a Charr Kit could be really interesting.
A golem kit (Asura)
An experimental weapons kit (Charr)
A Nature Defensive Sap/Elixir kit (Sylvari)

Racist.

Hello. Lemme start off by saying engineer was the first class I truly loved playing after purchasing this game, and I’ve always and still do have a blast playing it. With that said, I completely suck at playing it.

I’ve started to get into WvW recently, and love going around in small groups to fight. Hate zergs though. Large groups scare me. Recently, as well, I sucked with my ranger too until I started using a condition build, which worked rather well. So, I figured I’d try the same thing on my engineer, but I’m having no luck.

That is what I have so far, and its gotten me trashed more than I’d like.

Please, rip this to shreds and help me to improvement.

Dude, I love you. I absolutely suck at ranger. I saw this thread and grabbed the first build, though I used different runes and rabid armor, cause I’m poor and can’t afford new armor. I just really wanted to not suck. Grabbed a party of like, 7 people and went around. It was absolutely incredible.

For once in my ranger career I felt as though I was contributing at least something. Also, you say this isn’t a great 1v1 build, but with this, I won most of my 1v1 fights. Only a tricky mesmer or theif could really get me down. It was unbelievable to me that I was actually getting kills, when all prior builds I tried landed me with a dirt nap. Thank you, thank you for this. I never got into huge zerg fights, but smaller, 4-10 man groups and 1v1s, this is pretty nice.

So, I recently came back from a hiatus and decided to look up new builds for my engineer. I see people are like “eww, grenades” and I sort of agree, so I see a few bomb builds. I try a couple of them, as well as a flamethrower build, and they worked okay, but thieves keep sending me my kitten on a silver platter. I can handle other classes OK most of the time, but I can rarely get a thief down below 75% HP it seems before they bend me over and fist-ram my balls into the dirt.

Now, I’m talking about WvW 1v1/small group situations here. Any advice?

Is it always going to be this difficult?

I’m currently a level 27 thief, and as I consulted the forums for advice, I’m finding that what looks great on paper does not equate so well to actual gameplay. For example, I’ve read posts that swear by both D/D and S/P. The problems I am having are that while D/D is great dps, it burns through initiative so quickly that I end up running around hopelessly trying to find the back of the monster that I usually take way too much damage… and don’t even get me started if there are two enemies, and i’ll be kittened if one is ranged. So, I read that D/D is good for single target DPS and I figured that was my problem in the open world where it’s not uncommon to aggro two or three enemies at once. So, I shelved the D/D until I come across a vet, and pull out my D/D + cloak + backstab + cloak and find that the veteran is only at 60% health and then I’m out of initiative and, alas, I get killed trying to dodge until my initiative regenerates.

The problem is, you need to have at least one ranged weapon set to give yourself a breather — which you definitely need at low level. The best one for leveling is either P/D or P/P. Having both weapon sets as melee will only get your killed…evidently.

Agreed, though I never used P/D or P/P. I always ran with D/D and a Shortbow. Problems went away real quickly, esp. with multiple foes.
