I devised a litmust test for an elementalist that I like…if you WvW – can your ele solo a supply camp? So take out the veteran guard that does mele, the two veteran guards that shoot guns and whatnot, the quatermaster, the veteran guild claiming npc and the dolly’s that usually run in and try to kick you.. Can you come in and take them all down?
Many classes can do this fairly easy, ranger for example. But I don’t see too many ele’s attempting this in WvW…my ele can do it and does all the time…can yours?
(I use DD…so this was prepatch…Im guessing now it’ll be a bit easier to do)
The downed state change is fantastic. (haven’t played yet though) If they didn’t nerf the RTL skill I would be the happies GW2 player in history of GW2. Now Im just at mildly excited levels.
Aww man, one of my favorite things about my ele…gone. Im not sure why they did this….was there some sort of exploit that you could use it for that people complained about? If it was a nerf just for nerf sake…I’m not too happy. Wish I’d seen this before giving props to AN for the ele changes.
OMG I could not be happier with the changes. This literraly just made my day and I wasn’t going to be able to play tonight but Im actually changing my plans now just so I can play GW2 tonight. Thank you AN for your response on the eles….especially the downed state!!!
Death count as in how many times you’ve died? No clue. but I also do alot of suicide missions so that prob doesn’t help my stats…though I do tend to make it out alive often.
Or is this WvW kills? If so, I have about 5,000.
So why would anyone try to take the orbs? So they can have a penalty? At that point you might as well just do away with the obs completely. There have been many valid suggestions, such as just lowering or layering benefits, swithing the outmanned and orb buff, etc but I don’t think this one does it.
If ANYTHING I would argue that the orbs should give a BUFF to the gates/walls and not players. So close to what you said except no buff to players at all, and where you have penalties, I would have buffs. There should be SOME benefit/insentive to get orbs, otherwise what is the point of orbs?
Thanks. Would you happen to know if they’re more steardy? I’m actually prob slightly more worried about that than damage output.

Some people would like to be able to show and see the names of the players they’re fightinign against. I can understand both sides of the issue as to why they want it and why it may be bad for business and discourage players from joining.
So here is an incredibly SIMPLE fix…make it OPTIONAL. Default is nothing shows and you cant interact with the other side. However, if you CHOSE TO, you can show your name, see the other persons name and speak to them (or any degrees of that) if you want to. And then there is no complaints because only people that will interact are those that choise that on both sides and thus will be like minded individuals.
Can somebody tell me what the issue would be with this approach?

PvP or Player vs Player is about the players.
And World vs World vs World is about…you guessed it, the world.
I don’t understand why people assume these have to be mutually exclusive concepts. Yes it IS about the world and keeping/capturing points. But to do that, you usually have to interact with and fight against players. So some people here are asking for that part to get some tweaks.
I figured this is the best place to ask this question as you only use siege in WvW.
I can not find the stats of superior siege and I want to make sure it’s worth it. For example, to get an Omega Golem is a huge money investment and right now I have no idea if I’m better off having 5 golems and not getting the other ingredients or making one Omega. Any help/info on this would be great. TIA

I really think it should be an accomplishment…after AN puts in a rank system hopefully. So you get through soldier, corporal, etc….then something like Pentultimate WvW’er which also then displays your name.
I’m IOJ and I hope we do well but realisticly we have little experience fighting T1 servers and logic would indicate us not doing so great. I’m going to be there friday but out of town all weekend so I feel kinda bad I wont be there to help out my server. Good luck to all.
Agreed Wyrm. We did well IOJ but this is a game and we should be talking about what we did well and should continue to do and not about what the others did “wrong” or anything negative.
Yesterday I found without my armor on a few times because I thought that would just about balance out the orb buff and would make my 1on1’s more fair and interesting. I actually ran into a a group and let them kil me (naked ofcourse) because I felt bad that they weren’t allowed to do anything all day. I’m a softie like that when we’re dominating someone. When its an actual fight and my side needs me I’m a crazed killer!
I tried to communicate with the other side using the /me command but I must be doing something wrong. I wanted to say “good game” as well as “I know being forced to stay in your citadel sucks, don’t get discouraged”

Mishi, whats so hard to understand about that? NObody here said – make this game EXACTLY like this other game. If they love the other game exactly as it was more than GW2, they’d be playing that game.
But it is only logical and SMART to say ’hey these aspects of certain games" make for a more enjoyable game for gamers that are looking for x, y and z.

You need to chill. I made the statement because a ton of people in the forums are complaining about something not being like another game. Also the reason there are so many games is due to the fact everyone has a different opinion of what they want. 1 company can not, nor will they ever make everyone happy. Anet has taken some ideas from past MMO’s and also twisted some old ones around, and brought something with many different aspects and options.
It has some new things, as well as some old.
They haven’t stopped listening, however how much extra time do you think they currently have on their hands?
I mean between constant bug reports from millions of people, thousands of people who get hacked due to poor passwords and such, game coding, testing, and so on. It’s not like things will happen 100% over 1 night, or even 4 months. As you can already tell Arena Net has been listening and has been making changes to the game since day 1.Players just need to learn some patience, and to use the suggestion forum more often. Heck GW2 is only coming up on 2 months since release.
Why am I chilling? I already said I don’t see AN makign that change. I just exposed the flaw in your line of thinking. Don’t get mad at that, learn something from it.
The other one is more of a move I do every once in a while…5 enemy players are chasing just one of ous….iI see them get crippled and they go down. Well I don’t let my teamates down. Ride the lightning in, knock back…prevent the stomp. Pop shield and start rezzing….then while rezzing I attune to earth and cripple everyone slowing them down…then I stop rezzing and another knockdown…then continue rezzing while popping mistform…which is enough to get that person up. Then we make a break for a keep. DId this many times where I saved a player from a certain stomp.
We were losing that week so the enemy would often own things on our side of our main map.
At one point they were holding a supply camp and had a bunch of ranged players with siege as well so it was impossible to get to. (About 10-12 players) We weren’t getting great participation and had about 5-6 players fihgting them from a distance (other hill) but nothing was getting done at all.
So I quickly flanked them (I travel fast) and because they never tunred around to see me (plus some were on siege)…I laid down my most devastating attacks and all my knockdowns and had half of them downed in a few seconds. The rest then fought me and while this was happening the guys from my servers started to run over. Eventually I got stomped (I was still fighting 1 on 6) but with the damage I did and the players I donwed (while taking them off siege) made it so my 5-6 guys could run in and take out 10-12 players with siege and rez me. It felt good. Ive done similar things like that but this was the first time.

I’m from IOJ (just for full disclosure) and I haven’t heard anyone talking about this as a strategy or bragging that they did it (and I’m WvW every day). Honestly it wasn’t needed for this weeks match up so I’m not so sure this had to have been sabotage, rather dumb players. Heck yesterday somebody put down a flame ram on the side of the keep to attack a wall and it got built so at least 3-4 people also thought it was a good idea. Some people just don’t understand siege fully.
Now if this WAS sabotage, well that ridiculous. I’m 100% anti these 24 free server transfers as they are set up now. There are ways around it, transfer but you can’t WvW for that week or at the bare minimum FOR THE LOVE OF ALL THAT IS GOOD, you can’t transfer to the server you’re fighting that week. Is that REALLY that hard to understand AN? It ruins the integrity of the game. I know there is sabotage in real wars…BUT HERE IS THE DIFFERENCE, generally wars are not fought for FUN! This is a GAME and one aspect of having fun is fair play.
OP I trully hope nobody from IOJ did that. If they did, they are not indicative of the general attitude of the server as I know it…nobody has every said anything in chat about trying any hacks, cheats or any expoits in all my time there. So if anything, either a rogue individual or a rotten guild.
I hope AN addresses this by simply fixing the transfer issue.
how do I say this….you’re probably right that it wouldn’t make a difference for you. For somebody with a GOOD build, it makes a ton of difference. That’s from experience of having a tried a bunch of builds (or spending a bunch of times coming up with the best build for my playstyle) and seeing the vast improvement in results once I got it figured out.

This is my first MMO so I didnt come from OP’s background and I couldn’t agree more. I’m assuming this will appeal to the competative and probably skilled players but with AN attempt to make this very “friendy/accessible” to the average/casual player, I can’t see it ever happening. Which will probably mean that the hard core games will get bored much faster, while the casuals will stay, well casual and in the aggregate, AN will likely lose out on players/money because of this choice. JMO obviously.
Daish incorrectly believes he’s some sort of commander. Daish actually just spent 100g so he can have a commander icon over that particular character. You purchased a consumable for that character, albeit an expensive one. If Daish wants another character to have that icon, he should have another 100g handy.
Daish should also understand how gold sinks work. Not sinks made of gold, they work just like regular sinks but with extra opulence, but the gold sink mechanic in MMO’s.
How would weapon swap out of combat make us op?
If its out of combat, you can already do it Sorry you have to click TWO buttons instead of one. I don’t see AN bothering to program a non combat weapon swap button that becomes inactive once in comabat just for elementalist. And I’m fine with that stance.
rhodoc, you can already control the direction of RTL. Turn of autotargeting. Make sure you don’t have anyone targeted (click off somewhere) and your RTL will go in direction you’re facing.
Now if you want ot control RTL’s PATH (so once you’re actuall in lighting form you want to be able to turn mid ride) I don’t see that ever happening. I just want them to change it so you don’t hang in the air once your enemy changes direction….let me RTL in that direction until the end. Easy peasy.
I AM getting to #3 quite a bit. I dont know why you dont. Sometimes multiple times, ever extending backwards.
Maybe because I choose my battles appropriately. If I cant outright win the enemy will be pressured enough that they will have a serious debate as to whether to risk a stomp and be interrupted or not. You are not the only source of interrupts for stomps, in a good battle many are flying around.
You are focussing on 1-1 aspect maybe. But all these interrupts you speak of wont save you there either, unless you luck out and someone else comes around. I am talking about the whole metagame. You speak of interrupts like the holy grail, they arent. If they have time to stomp you once 99% of the time they have time to stomp you twice.
Where do you play? You get to 3 in sPvP? You must be playing some terrible teams. Because in there you will get stomped asap. Will not make it to 3.
In WvW…you might make it to 3 but either you will get stomped or the AOE will down you in those 8 seconds. Would be much nicer to be able to move to a different location like thiefs can right away. Our of AOE and c;loser to allies if applicable.
Yes, if I had a 2 that worked correctly (rooted players, not a random wolf nearby) and mistform was available right away I’d be ok. I don’t need my downstate to tbe the best or OP’ed…just not completely useless.
If anyone PvP’s here and disagrees, please let me know what you are doing differently.
Weapon swap would make us op. Not going to happen and it shouldnt happen.

In PvP you are never getting to #3. Never. In WvW, down state is a joke, you can’t knock back or portal…you’re done. Very rarelly can you mistform…but the key here is YOU have no skills ot prolong the down state before the mistform…can’t knockback, can’t stelath, can’t teleport. So yes, if somebody falls asleep for 8 seconds and doesn’t stomp you, you can mistform 10 feet away and hope its enough to get to allies.
or you can be a thief and just teleport that far right away. Then stealth. Or knocokback people. Or be a mesmer with their clones.
Feel free to make a poll with my topic…I can’t believe you’re saying the ele downed state is as good as if not better than mesmers. This topic has reached concensus for the most part in the ele community. It’s really one of those “decided” topics.
Yeah, rangers are not at all OP and not an issue in WvW in the slightest. Mesmers should be looked at imo, with portals and time warp….its too much power….if you have a few skilled mesmers you can do things and take keeps 10 times easier. No other class is that valuable.
I’m guessing you were taken down by heavy arrow cart fire. and.or balistas.
Plus waypoint can be build in castles…its an upgrade option. If your servers is decent, that’ll be something they do because it obv increases movement speed and reaction times thus helping you win. But with swiftness, it takes 5 minutes from one end of the map to the other so I feel there’s a bit of overexaggerating going on here.
This is all you need to know Kilger…if the mesmer downed state (or most others) were offered to elementalists I would wager >95% of people would take it. If the ele downed state was offered to every other class I would wager <5% would take it.
That’s all you need to know about the ele downed state.
Any news to eles in toughness gear getting 2-shotted by warriors?

Stun break, dodge. I have zero trouble with warriors, actually it is the single easiest class to take down for me. I’m not bragging because certian thief and mesmer (and condition necro) builds still can give me trouble; so I’m not some super awesome sPvPer, but I don’t think I’ve ever lost a 1on1 match against a warrior and its been over a 100 fights easy.
Knock them down, keep them down, have vigor, dodge. Must have stub/immobilize breakers. Then proceed to stomp.

Did you have all 3 orbs? Your hp is 24k….so Im assuming that is the case or you have 0 toughenss. With my ele I can beat two opponents with 80% health without using a heal or any utility skills with 3 orbs.
Go to sPvP and try it out..I’m not saying you wont do well, I do quite alright but this isn’t anything that impressive because of the orbs and the fact your opponents didn’t seem leveled/skilled. At one point you down a guy and stomp him and the other guy starts rezzing him mid fight? That’s not a level 80 player.
To the people trying to roll an ele, you should try it, it’s a great profession and if the dev address the downed state and give the Dd a little more love and I say just little, it’ll be very fun to play.
OP, if you ever want to really test your build, PM and we can set up a 1on1 pvp match….not because I think you’re no good, but because it might be a good test of our builds and I’m always looking to learn something new.

It should be just one more option…Say to All or something like that. I 100% agree with this…not so much for trash talk but I’d like to say to the other side…hey the top guys are crushing us, lets join up for a day. Or “gg” or “hey I’m not going to kill you…keep going your way”…and then if he doesn’t and I have to kill him I can say “now did we learn anything today?”…etc…it would make WvW twice as good imo.
Am I ridiculously stocked up on siege right now? Yes yes I am. Will I be turning some of those intro superior versions with the forge before friday, why yes yes I will. Win or lose (and most likely lose next week) I hope IOJ comes out swinging friday…I know I wll be there, armed to the teeth.
Yes, most rational people aren’t saying Eles are so broken they’re unplayable. I do ok with my ele and I enjoy playing it. But I created some alts just so I can take them into the mists and try them out to learn their mechanics so I knew how to beat them (esp thieves, but mesmers and others as well)….and during that time, knowing next to nothing about the mechanics of those classes and their playstyle and optimization (not like knowing my ele having leveled it 150-200 times already)….I was more dominanti with almost every other class.
That means with same keyboard skills, same brain behind the player, less knowledge….and much faster better results. I mean, with thieves I needed 3 buttons one of them being quickness. I can’t believe how fast people go down….Im like her I just started, 3 seconds later you’re down?
Still play my ele becaues thats what I chose from the start and thats how my brain works, but right now its not up to snuff with other classes , regardless of the videos you see of people destroying others with eles, because those same people investing that much time and effort in other classes would do just as well and better with them imo.
Man I’m IOJ from the start but this IOJ chest puffing is a little over the top. We’re a good server. But since there’s nothing magical about our server that AN put in place, we can fall victim to the same things because the population is allowed to change and its naive to think otherwise.
If our server would become full of trolls and people not contributing but taking up WvW server spots thus making game play constantly bad and not fun…you are foolish to think that won’t impact us negatively.
Not everyone at IOJ thinks our poop doesn’t stink.
Here is my solution: The “Truce” mechanic. Once one world has a score greater than the other two teams added together, the other two teams become unable to target one another. They become the same team. Points scored from then on are shared 50/50 between those two teams.
When their score becomes higher than the formerly dominant team, they split back to normal and all keeps/towers go to the default owner except those in enemy lands which go to whoever contributed most. Done.
Im not sure I like this BUT I would like to simpler way to communicate with the other sides….because in real war two enemies would often make quick truce/arrangements against another enemy and then get back to their own fighting. I’d like a chat option where we can talk to the other side…I know it can be abused, but so can anything so report people who are mean/abusive.
I’d like to say to the other team sieging Stonemist…hey we’re ok with you guys capping this, don’t attack us right now, we’ll siege this other side and keep presusre on. Sometimes this works wihtout saying but some noob from either side doesn’t get it and then starts something because without better communication, things break down.
Why would i pay for ugrades and lay down siege if its for 1 day only? Most of the current WvW options would become useless then.
There are many fixes to WvW but I don’t think this is one of them.
Come on, I’m from IOJ and I try to make the game fun for my servers as well as our opponents. IOJ is normally filled with really nice people that work together and have fun….but that’s been changing just a bit lately. I’m not ready to cry doom just yet.
Heck on several occassions we’ve had chats with random players about how we feel bad for the other guys because we know it can’t be fun for them, and it’s not fun for us (ok most of us) to pick on a few players…but there’s not much else to do so I understand why some people do it.
I didn’t realize people had a negative view of IOJ because to my knowledge (and Im in WvW alot) we don’t have a lot of bots, hackers or really toxic play. I continue to enjoy playing there. I hope that doesn’t change with the tier 1 move. I have posted in other threads that the 24 server transfer is KILLING the WvW game and is a travesty. AN doesn’t care. I guess if things change and game play becomes not fun any more, I’ll switch to a different game. We all had things to do before GW2, we can all find things to do after. Its up to AN to decide if they care about their players or if they want to continue having a completely moronic system in place that they’re fully aware is a huge issue.
If orbs got me those lame outmanned bonuses I would argue with anyone trying to organize taking orbs until my fingers were bloody. The outmanned bonus is bad and it should feel bad and if the orbs gave you that, you might as well do away with the orbs.
Again, I’m repeating myself but I think power buffs should not be part of this game, it should be a level playing field between players and the orb bonus helps with items.
I think there should not be any power boost to either side. Orbs should provide a benefit but to KEEPS!!! So you’ve fought to get the obs, you should get some reward, otherwise whats the point. So your orbs make your walls/gates 5%, 10% and 15% more durable depending on the amount of orbs. Perhaps even get more supply.
But I personally believe that when two players meet in WvW or anywhere they should at all times be on the same level so when somebody wins its because they were better in some way shape or for (skills, spects, etc). Orbs right now are a disaster.
I can’t believe you guys are complaining about this. Serously. I have been outmanned many times, to the point I couldn’t leave the citadel so its’ not that at all.
You’re not even talking about downed state but dead….do you know HOW MUCH longer is takes to rez a dead player than downed??? (and that why if rezzing you should always try to run over and rez a downed player because once they’re dead its so much more hassle).
Guess what, if you’re fighting a 30 man zerg with 7 people YOU WILL MOST LIKELY LOSE, that’s not because of rezzing, it’s because of common sense and math. Its not impossibly, but highly improbable. 30 people SHOULD BE able to kill 7.
Lets say you have 10 fokls fighting 30 and you kill 3 of theirs…now it takes 1 or more people per dead person, some non arbitrary amount of time, to rez them….effectively taking them out the battle. If you killed those 3 guys and now you’re in trouble and on CD…what you think now 10 vs 27 all of a sudden means you’re not getting stomped? No, so you’re actually better off having 4-5 people rez those guys so you’re fighting 10 on 22 for a bit. There’s a cost associated, those people rezzing are just sitting there taking damage and not dealing any out. So they’re paying a price to rez that guy and you’re fighting less people for a while. But you’re not even thinking about that, you’d rather complain about something that is a total non issue.
Right now you can become a commanger for 100g. I feel like there should be some interim ranks you can purchase. Leuitenant for 10g for example that maybe doesn’t have an icon but is allowed to make parties of 15-20 people instead of 5. So the zerg doesn’t have a neat easy icon to follow but if there are no commanders on your map at that time, this person can still try to organize some semblance of an army.
They already responded zero…and they said “wait, we actually are like every other company….gotcha!”
Im not on your server or the ones fighting you but wanted to say that I feel bad for you guys. That really sucks.
AN was sold to me by some people as “different than other companies”…but I’m not a GW1 player so I don’t have any super loyalty. So far for me personally, the more and more AN reacts and doesn’t react to certain things, I’m becoming less and less happy with them. I really like the game and still continue playing but a story like this gets added to the pile and at some point the pile gets high enough that you say “hey this is just a game and I’m deciding not to play it any more and go somewhere else”…which usually means, I will not buy or play GW3 and whatever else AN might be working on. That’s just how these things work….
Which is sad because I had hoped that AN would be different that other gaming companies but I also believed in the Tooth Fairy once…
IOJ does not have 24/7 ques…I played alot Friday to Monday since I’ve been home sick and during the day there are no ques and the pop is not crazy high at all. But we did coordinate and plan and did well during those non peak times as well. I really like IOJ and hope it doesn’t change.
I feel bad for ET and CD because I’ve been on both sides of this issue and I know its not fun feeling like you can’t leave your own citadel and after a few days that you’re facing insurmountable ods given the supply, fortification and orb situation. I hope An makes some changes to give losing teams more of a fightinig chance.
On sunday I found a ET or CD guardian…and the poor guy was just trying to get from his citadel to their north most camp….but I engaged him and he was good. Very tanky build with the right skills used at the right times…I never dropped below 70% and never used a heal…but this fight lasted almost 5 minutes and he made it very close to the camp before I took him down. But I had all 3 orbs and I can’t help thinking…this guy was skilled and built properly, he would have been a really good fight if we were even and felt bad that I knew I was going to win because with the orbs I’m unstoppable. I actually felt IRL bad about it and wish I didn’t stomp him. To the point that I now sometimes beat opponents and then when downed just leave, and let them rez (as long as they’re not a threat to anyone/anything there)…I don’t want to turn that person off to WvW because they can’t even step out of a door without some OP’ed person rolling them because their server is far behind. If you’re the ET/CD ranger for example I did that too….the others aren’t going to be that nice so when you try to leave your spawn point…remember, there is a back exit, other can and obv did stomp you.
It doesn’t help that the server transfers are making it hard to build a community and a servers makeup from one week to the next can completely change, making it hard to actually match servers up in the tiers they belong in.
This is a big issue for me too. I seriously and still dumbfounded that free transfers are allowed. I actually at this point want and demand a explanation from A.Net about this. It appears to me that these free transfers are causing all kinds of server community issues in WvW.
This is insane imo. Free transfers should have ended weeks ago. If you had friends other places, you should have switched by now. How can you balance servers when populations are constantly shifting.
It makes ZERO sense and lessens the fun of the game so I’m COMPLETELY BAFFLED as to why AN is doing this. I can’t come up with any GOOD explanation.
