Just ran into the Canach bugs, where he doesn’t drop his shield, and Evil Canach went totally immune on the next try.
What made it worse was that I’d already run through the mission last time around, beaten Mordremoth, got the “press F to vanquish dragon” prompt and was composing my victory speech in my mind … and a power outage rebooted my PC.

Same issue. I did the first Verdant Brink mission where you rescue the captives with Laranthir and fight off the attack with Rytlock, but exiting the instance jumped me back to the Silverwastes instead of Verdant Brink. The gate to Verdant Brink won’t work for me now, and there’s no way of earning mastery points or progressing outside it.
Just finished running around on my new druid. The bear and feral cat forms were fun (and pretty OP – perma stealth on cat?) but there was a stupid fat owl-thing form that shot lasers that was clearly some sort of joke by the devs. Also, the beta zone (some place called Asswrath, no idea why) actually seemed to have much worse graphics than anywhere else I’ve seen in game, and no waypoints at all. Clearly still a lot of work to be done there. I frankly question whether it’s ready for primetime, it really doesn’t look like it’d ever be popular in its current state.
These WvW threads usually devolve fairly quickly into “Server A blobs/spams siege/runs from fights, whereas my own Server B is wonderful and stomps enemy zergs at 10 to 1 odds.” Then people start getting tetchy and it all goes downhill from there. Most of the threads that got locked were the usual tedious examples of this.
This is the Mobile burn build i have been using since the patch.
Interesting build. The linked build doesn’t show the type of pistols you recommend though. I assume they’re Dire or Rabid like the rest of it, which do you prefer?
Sure, but if you’re not taking sustainable damage, you’re dead regardless. In the second situation, both builds would be dead in another 5 or 6 seconds no matter what. The main point is that rabid (toughness) makes it easier to keep your damage at a sustainable level.
The nature of incoming damage, specifically the ratio of ‘normal’ power damage taken vs condition damage, also affects the optimal armour set.
I’ve been playing around with some modelling of this in a dps over time to live scenario (affected by heals, armour, etc.) and it suggests for scenarios where the incoming power:condition damage ratio is about 2.5:1 or above, a pure dire set is best. As the condition damage ratio increases, the optimal armour set includes more and more pieces of carrion gear. At equality, where incoming power damage and condition damage are the same, the model prefers all carrion over dire. I think this is because as the condition damage ratio increases, toughness becomes less important, so trading it for power gives increasingly better results. You still die just as fast, but you do more damage first.
Interestingly, rabid gear is never optimal – possibly because dire gives better time to live in a low condition damage environment, and rabid’s toughness is less valued than carrion’s vitality in a high condition damage environment. I should also stress that the model is crude and no doubt flawed – I’m certainly not claiming you shouldn’t take rabid or anything – but thought it might be of interest.
Incidentally, if anyone has thoughts on either a typical incoming damage profile (i.e. the broad general average ratio of incoming power to condition damage one could expect in a scenario like WvW – my wild guess was 3:1) or other means of evaluating an armour set besides the simplistic ‘dps done over time to live’ I’d be interested to see them.

Nice video, but ‘aclarity’ all the time was bugging me.
4000 times per 40 mins = 400 clicks per minute = 400/60 = ~7 clicks per second
Er, no. 4000 divided by 40 is 100, not 400. 100 clicks per minute = 1.67 clicks/second.
Been a Yak since launch and couldn’t have asked for a friendlier or fairer server to call home.
The dones flied too perfectly with us to be minions unless there will be a major AI update for pets. I think they will “stick to us” and do additional effects. Can’t say more about that topic atm
That’s true, they behaved almost like an aura. Revenants have the Vengeful Hammers skill that makes hammers encircle them and damage foes, maybe the drones are similar. Different auras (dmg foes, heal allies, remove condis, buff allies) for each drone type?
It’s a bit sad that LA was more convenient and easier to use when it was in ruins. The new Disney version of LA has clearly been designed for looks rather than for usability. The bank, trading post, vendors, crafting tables and waypoints are all spread out so far that I’m wondering if it was deliberately designed to be somewhat inconvenient in order to spread server load to more usable hubs such as DR and RS.
A design team that decides a shield, of all things, is more appropriate than a MH dueling pistol for a class with a trait line called ‘Dueling’ is beyond rational suggestions.
While an interesting and useful exercise, I think this build demonstrates the poor synergy and frequent lack of choices the new skills tree gives PVE phantasm users.
You took Chrono I (Time Catches Up) for perfectly adequate reasons – the other two options in the Adept line are even more underwhelming – but Super Speed for illusions seems rather pointless to me. Phantasms usually spawn already in attack range, and unless you’re fighting that super fast moa in Dry Top, run speed for them has never been a noticeable issue. So this tier seems to be largely a waste. The fact that it only works on shattering also locks you into Chronophantasma, which I have reservations about too.
You then pick Illusionary Reversion for the Master tier. This seems actively counterproductive as you risk overwriting a phantasm with a clone. But, as you say, the choices here are all rather poor for phantasm users. Then for the Grandmaster trait, Chronophantasma. As Krispera says, the fact that phantasms respawn in melee range means this might not be very effective for a phantasm user. But of course it’s a little early to say how this will work out. The two alternatives in the GM are either shatter based or aimed at PVP, so not especially useful.
I’m rather a fan of the Illusions line, so it’s nice to see you pick that next. However, again it shows the weakness of the traits tree for phantasm users. Your choice of Illusions II, Persistence of Memory, takes 6% off the recharge time of all phantasms in the best-case scenario. With Illusionist’s Celerity locked in already, your longest recharge time on a typical phantasm (iBerserker, Swordsman or Duellist) is 16 seconds. A 6% reduction of that is 0.96 seconds. Taking less than a second off your recharge times in the best case only once (because Chronophantasma only works on the first shatter) doesn’t really seem worth it. I would probably pick Illusions I, Compounding Power, instead.
Next you pick Phantasmal Haste, which is so obviously the correct decision I won’t bother to say anyting more about it. After that is Illusions VIII, Master of Fragmentation. Of the three GM traits here, two are shatter based and one is a buff to blinds, so all three are marginal for phantasm users at best. A disappointing end to a trait line that looked promising.
Finally, you pick the Inspiration line, whch as you note, might not fit in and might not be a good choice. The minor traits have some uses, and Inspiration VIII might be handy in group situations, but we’re really making the best of a poor situation here. Inspiration doesn’t have a lot to offer.
Duelling does seem to be a better line, with Duelling I, Phantasmal Fury being an obvious choice as you point out, though as a pistol user I’m going to miss Duelling III, Duellist’s Discipline, for the pistol buffs. The second minor trait, Sharper Images, is also an important part of phantasm damage. But again the Master and Grandmaster traits offer very little to phantasm users. Duelling IV, Blinding Dissipation, works off shatters again and seems more aimed at PVP in any case. Evasive Mirror is too new to say much about, and Blade Training, which would be my personal choice, is nice for the iSwordsman recharge but not especially worth taking for the +50 power, which is only a touch above 2% extra crit. As for the GM traits, Harmonious Mantras might end up the default choice for phantasm users. Mistrust doesn’t seem compelling for phantasms, and Deceptive Evasion, while undeniably useful, does overwrite phantasms and is much more useful for shatter builds.
The other trait lines show similar lack of synergy. Domination starts well, with Domination II, Empowered Illusions. However, the Master traits either buff shatters, signets or interruption, none of which are particularly exciting. The GM traits have Greatsword Training – perhaps suboptimal given the superior performance of iSwordsman/iDuellists, but far from useless – but the other two traits buff shatters and interrupts again. And Chaos doesn’t seem to have a lot to offer unless in a support role.
Given a remit of ‘make a phantasm build using the new trait line’, you’ve made the best of a bad situation. But when half your choices as a phantasm player are “I’m picking this because it’s the least useless” then there’s a problem. Of course, it is early yet and we can hope for more reorganisation of traits to create more viable phantasm builds. I am also far from the most knowledgeable mesmer player, so no doubt there are inaccuracies in the above. But right now it does seem that the new trait lines are poorly laid out for phantasm builds.

For PVE phantasm builds, it will be tough to pass on the Illusions line, as it has both Illusionary Celerity and Phantasmal Haste. However, the GM traits are useless for phantasms, so your choice of the Inspiration line instead looks pretty reasonable. It’s a shame that Duelling I and III are mutually exclusive.
It is something of a concern that phantasm builds do seem to require taking poor or useless traits no matter which line you pick at the moment. Still, it’s early days yet, and hopefully traits will still be shuffled around by the devs to make some more viable builds available.

This is incorrect. 10/20/0/25/15 is superior even when using GS.
Is that because of Sharper Images?
phyrrean victory
Minor nitpick: it is Pyrrhic victory.
I could continue quoting here, but we are already off course. Logistics is not the most important thing, which was stated earlier.
“In war the only sure defense is offense, and the efficiency of the offense depends on the warlike souls of those conducting it” – General George S. Patton
“Gentlemen, the officer who doesn’t know his communications and supply as well as his tactics is totally useless.” – General George S. Patton
No doubt we could both go on all day. It’d make for more erudite PvF than usual but I’m sure we both have better things to do, enjoyable as it was.
“Soldiers usually win the battles and generals get the credit for them” Napoleon Bonaparte
“There are but two powers in the world, the sword and the mind. In the long run the sword is always beaten by the mind.” – Napoleon Bonaparte
Good soldiers > logistics
“The amateurs discuss tactics: the professionals discuss logistics.” – Napoleon Bonaparte
In retrospect, this was all too predictable.
I’m excited to meet yaks or Ebay again. Without their puss-mode, scrub alliance….
I too am shocked and appalled that a server like Yak’s Bend, that was beaten by a large margin the last time they fought SBI, would resort to using strategy and common sense to reverse the result and achieve victory.
Do these bounders and cads not know that their duty is to lose and donate points to SBI? Instead, with quite detestable enthusiasm and the connivance of those ill-bred ruffians in Ehmry Bay, they are deliberately trying to win!
It is all quite disgraceful, and I should like to horsewhip the lot of them, see if I don’t.
Oceanic here, could I get an invite please? Cheers.
While we’re wishing, I’d like a mesmer-themed gathering tool that spawns a phantasm that mines/chops for you. Actually handling some grubby tool to mine ore or chop trees down yourself like a common peasant is so demeaning.
id like to have a mh pistol but we need another mh welee weapon way more than range
I’d like another 1-hand melee weapon too, but bear in mind that we already have a really strong 1-H melee weapon in the sword. We don’t have a good 1-H ranged weapon, only the scepter, which is widely regarded as rubbish. The MH pistol would fill this missing weapon slot nicely, and I’d love to see it.
We contribute class and style to what would otherwise be an unseemly brawl.
Came here looking for a thread on this. This issue has affected me and a couple of other people I asked. The automatic jumps that don’t make you aim are often lethal because you’ll end up flying over them, and even the targeted aim can be unpredictable. Falling to your death over and over again because the jump simply doesn’t go where it’s supposed to gets annoying rather quickly. Anecdotally, a number of Australian players seem to be having this issue, so perhaps it’s lag/latency related – the rubber banding you get with the #2 skill being another example.
I’m surprised and somewhat disappointed that this acknowledged issue is taking so long to resolve.
Fingers crossed that a fix for this will be in the patch on the 26th, if not before.
Grenth is currently open on Yak’s Bend.

Yes, just ran into the oozes problem below decks. Not impressed given this is a main storyline mission and the issues have been known for at least 5 months.
