A bit of an update, I went into my BIOS and saw that the processor multipliers were set to 8 so I put them up to 33 and now it runs at 3.3 GHz and everything is smooth, I’m still confused with what caused the multipliers to go down all of a sudden and will still take the CPU to the place I bought it from just in case..

I’ve not installed anything, played with any setting for at least 3 days before things went wrong. I tried reseating the processor but to no luck, BIOS reset didnt do anything. I’m gonna have it replaced on Monday, I’ve got the receipt and garauntee still, thanks to all of you guys for your help, its really appreciated!

Why would it thermal throttle? The temps are around 30C, the mobo has no reason to lower the performance of the CPU around those temps (If I have an adqequate understanding of what thermal throttling is..)

Reseating didnt fix it.. Anyone got any idea what is causing this? I tried all compatability modes, 32 vs 64 bit client, and the FPS is still low..

So a little bit of background. I purchased a new PC around 2 months ago setup being:
Intel i5 4590
8GB Kingston DDR3 RAM
Ge Force Phantom GTX 960 4GB
700W PSU

I had played guild wars with with this spec on max setting getting 80 FPS in LA, was using Windows 7.
I made the jump to Windows X two weeks ago and the game ran perfectly fine until today. I now get around 15-20 FPS in hotm, I would normally presume its the OS fault but seeing as the game ran perfectly fine for around two weeks with the same or even better performance, I am almost certain its not the OS.

I think strength will be the choice. You will get might from mirrorblade, eles ect. Pack I do not see place for as the swiftness you already have and you also have perm. fury from traits, but hey, there are also new runes coming out so we may end up using some of them.

@ Haste if you have 5 people in a 240 radius grouped up, thats a mistake from your part. you catch 1-2 people in gravity well max and they can blink out of it or if they can’t they’ve probably got an invuln of some sort. Its alright because the mesmer used a 90s cooldown and you used a 30-50s cooldown to negate that. You are in profit here. I do agree with Csplit being a bit too much and I think limiting the # of skills is a good solution, however, I wouldn’t exactly say 3 skills, rather around 5-7.

Your post makes 0 sense. You can’t say anything to make it alright for a 10s CD skill to force a double dodge or a defensive cooldown every time it is used. There are ways to avoid it, sure but they cost too much in comparison to how much the revenant invested.

Sword skill is also kittened. You either have to double dodge or take 10k damage. If you double dodge you don’t have any dodges left and then you have to distort ect and then in 10s you’ll have to double dodge again when the cooldown is up for the revenant. Its not ok for a skill to force a double dodge every time it is used. It can’t be avoided by positioning, you can’t blink out of it, you can’t do anything but double dodge, distort or just tank the damage. The damage needs to be nerfed on it or it should be given a xyz range from where the skill started casting (like that if you leave out of a 460 radius from where the skill started casting that you just outrange it).

Could you at least make it appear on the minimap for your whole team? It would be great to have in soloq. People wouldn’t have to take it to see where it leads but see on the minimap straight away. Put like a P where its opened and a P where its placed or create some cool portal icon to put there.

To the OP → Don’t play PU. No mesmer that actually likes the class for what it is and played it pre patch does. I hate playing PU and only did so in pugquest for 1 game yesterday as we had no thief and didnt know if we would need the stealth. I play full zerk no vamp runes and illusions or the occasional CI (I also always run staff) and I do perfectly fine in soloq. Don’t shelf this wonderful skillful class just because of 1 skilless build that exists which you don’t really have to play. Thats like shelfing mesmer when you enjoyed it because PU condi existed.

IMO CS is nowhere near OP. You basically have stun on diversion which is a 40s CD. By that logic necro ds 3 is super super super OP because its better than a stun and on a shorter cooldown. PU I agree with and Blinding Disippation I don’t. You basically have only 2 blinds. Mind wrack and CoF, using distort and diversion for blind is just stupid + you need to be close range. This all with PU is a bit over the top but once chrono becomes meta it will be needed for mesmer to function properly and everyone will see that CS and BD are not OP.
So CS and BD crying is invalid, PU crying I support.

I run air blood on gs and energy generosity on sword/staff. I dropped fire when the damage nerf came, blood gives you extra sustain and about the same damage I think and it can not be dodged, unlike fire proc.
Generosity I think is a good thing to have since it is good condi removal. It won’t save you from massive condi bombs but it will allow you to sustain a lot longer by removing the small condis which is what basically does the most condi damage to you as a mesmer since you probably won’t be tanking anything big. Its also good vs burn guard when they don’t put ccover condis on. Also I can’t count the amount of times it removed random poison from me which in turn allows you to heal earlier. I think its very much so worth it. Only alternative I’d go for is maybe if you put fire on gs and put blood on sw/t to which will synergize well with say blurred frenzy, you’ll do damage, heal a bit and avoid attacks. Also doom on staff/sword is good to negate enemy healing.

With the PU things I meant that if when he plays PU he kills things and doesn’t die but then if he tries to play illusions for example is food the entire game. That isn’t a good mesmer thats a player that is getting carried by PU. I didn’t express myself well. Playing PU in itself doesn’t make you a bad mesmer but I don’t really see how a good one can find PU fun. Thats like being able to play the guitar like John Mayer /Clapton /Hendrix /SRV for example and then having a lot of fun just playing the standard D chord into A the whole time. It not really a valid part of the definition but its mostly true in my opinion.

Good Mesmer
- Knows every matchup (Doesn’t = good at 1v1, rather just knowing enemy skills and how to counter them)
- Has great positioning
- Realizes how stupid PU is and doesn’t have fun playing it because its actually really boring
- Doesn’t rely on cooldowns to survive, rather knows as many kiting spots and pr in the game as possible and knows how to perform them while being focused and make a solid judgement on if he will be able to survive by using those spots or will he have to use a cooldown
- Stays calm during the whole match, no matter what but still has sharp reactions
- Great map awareness
- Unpredictable
- Fake casts skills to pull dodges and cancels skills if he decides they’re not needed during cast time(reactions)
ect.
Bad Mesmer
- Plays PU all the time and can’t play anything else
- Most likely picked mesmer up when it became “OP”
- Doesn’t dodge anything on purpose, rather random doges a lot
- Relies fully on cooldowns and wastes them heavily (ie when the enemy mesmer stealthes you insta 1s distort and then get blown up because you’re a moron)
- Can’t kite for jack sh…
- Exteremely predictable (Stealth stun burst and run away)
- Only bursts with mirrorblade
- Questionable rotations
- Wastes all offensive cooldowns, not something people think of when people say cooldown management but if you do mirror blade into mind wrack into izerker into mind stab into gs 5 when I’m distorted, you kittened up with your cooldown management, son. Its not just decoy, blink and distort that you’re supposed to ‘manage’
- Can’t cancel cast

How about a totally different trait?

Arcane Generosity – Trigger Arcane Thievery while having at least 3 different conditions and taking damage under 50% health or receiving up to at least 3 conditions when under 50% health.

This doesn’t work because arcane thievery needs a target. If it triggers while you have no target, it would just fizzle.

It could work the same way as the necro passive signet it randomly chooses a target.

Why not do something similar to Improv on thief? For it to randomly recharge 1 utility skill when you drop below 50% HP? This would be good because it wouldn’t be specialized but it could give you a decoy, a portal or a blink that you will be able to use. Granted idk if it’ll bug out if there is already a portal placed down. I think this would be a really good change. Maybe also to keep it in the theme of the profession special skills recharge like steal on thief, make it on shatter but put a 25s ICD.

I’d be very happy if it was to get removed and replaced by a trait that gives you protection when you lose more than 10% of your HP in a single hit or when you get hit below 50-75%. This would make Chaos + Dueling together a bit too strong seeing as you’d get protection from the Chaos minor traits as well as this trait.

Please, fix this trait, put it back to 25% or something like that, it keeps randomly interrupting your casts and it can cost you duels, teamfights ect. I can’t count the number of times that it cancelled my heal and made me go into vamp form or just die when I could have been okay. Like for example now I was dueling this reaper and he was using the reaper shroud 5 on me in a place where I was gonna kite him, I wanted to use my knock to prevent this and not have to use distort ect (that stuff can crit for 8k, its insane, not in a bad way.) basically desp. decoy procced, interrupting my knock at the last second, it kills you more than saves you at the moment.The trigger % is too high.

Huge +1 to the transparency stuff, I don’t think gamemode or the fast paced combat is really an issue. If you watch dota for example I can’t tell whats going on for the most part. All I see is people destroying towers and randomly running and from time to time just whole team dies in a second and I’ve no clue what happened. Guild Wars 2 isn’t that hard to understand. Its basically kill people, win the nodes by standing on them while the enemy team isn’t on it. The instant bursts and the skills people of course will not understand but you can’t really understand what a skill does by just looking at it being casted, same way with all skills in all MMO’s. I think some animations on ele and engi mortar f5 should be reduced to allow people to see whats going on more clearly because sometimes it just takes up the whole screen, same with the GUI, lastly the casters aren’t exactly on the level of dota casters ect, they don’t neceseraly know how the game works truly so they can not point out some interesting plays which people don’t notice. We need casters with great rotational knowledge. That is why for example dota is easier to understand → the casters explain things better. Lastly I think allowing <18 y/o players to be able to compete in WTS, this will allow a lot more competitive players to go to WTS, making the competition bigger, more teams ect.

Quarry has A LOT more places to kite, they’re just not as obvious. You can jump on the rocks around it, you can also jump on those ironsmithing type things, ect, A LOT of areas, you just need to learn them.

I had a pretty bad computer and I recently (a few weeks ago) upgraded everything besides my graphics card. Normally I can get 80 FPS on best performance with the following setup:

i5 4590 CPU
H97 Pro4 mobo
560W PSU
8GB DDR 1600 RAM
GTX 630 GeForce GPU

Sometimes the FPS just randomly drop to ~14 and doesn’t change much no matter if I am on lowest graphics or max graphics. Restarting the game fixes is but I’m looking for a perm. fix. Any help would be appreciated.
I will upgrade my graphics card to a Radeon 390 soon but I still don’t think my graphics card is causing this as before it ran at 60 FPS on lowest settings normally.
I also occasionally get a Norton message which says that gw2 is using a high amount of CPU power (full potential of at least 1 core), not sure if this has anything to do with it.

Kudos for not crying “mesmer is OP” but asking for help (I wouldn’t say mesmer isn’t OP, PU is over the top at the moment and it carries a ton of bad players). If you are on EU, I’d be happy to meet up with you in game and show you the tricks of the mesmer trade. I’ve been maining mesmer since ToL1 (aka the time where mesmer was complete and utter kitten), so I will be able to show you more things than just simple mirror blade bursts and how to counter them + I used to main engi so I’ll be able to help out also by telling you what you need to do with your skills ect instead of just what to avoid. You can beat a mesmer 1v1 as an engi if you use the correct tactic. However as of the PU days, if the mesmer starts losing he can easily just stealth up and leave, that is presuming he doesn’t use all his stealths during the 1v1 which most will do.

I will be testing out The Flash Shatter Mesmer

Damage type: Power
Playstyle: Shatter
Intended role: Doing everything a shatter mesmer would do but at high speeds
Things of note: Focusing on buffing the mesmer rather than debuffing the enemy. Staff/GS or Sw/t still not decided. It will depend on the meta upon HoT release. Chronomancer may but probably will not be the meta if PU remains as strong as it is currently. Chaos is at the moment just too good of a traitline and while we have options, none is as strong as PU when it comes down to the roamer role in conquest PvP. Upon choosing staff, you will want to swap Mental Anguish for Powerblock. Also there is the option of going for the Fencer’s Finesse instead of Blinding Dissipation if you are using sword.

Also another bug that has been introduced with the patch, if there is someone in downed state, stealthed, next to you, you have the option of starting a stomp, you can’t complete the stomp as the player is stealthed but you can see where he is at.

Try these:

AC shoulders, T2 human for the rest of the armor

arah shoulders/chest, carpace boots/gloves, embroidered legs

Hotw chest/legs, glorious shoulder pieces, carpace gloves, exalted boots

CoF set dyed full black with shoulders and helmet removed

Those are all the ones I really like for mesmer.

EDIT: Just saw a few of your posts and thus deleted mine to replace it with this
Mesmer not having any counter -> Thief because of the amount of gap closers and blinds it has and any kind of condition class because mesmer actually has no condition removal in a build thats worth playing in an actual game.
You also complained about mesmer doing 4 3 clone shatters on you in 10 seconds, what did you do with all your dodges? Like woot. (+ blocks ect as I see you’re playing burn guard)
Basically you have L2P issue and I don’t mean this to be a D but seriously, its just a matter of L2P.
Mesmer wasn’t really in the meta for a long time and people before had to know to just dodge mirror blade if they saw one, now that mesmer isn’t underpowered anymore and more people are using it, people don’t know how to play vs it and they die really quickly and then go QQ on forums. Thats a really egocentric, lazy, pathetic way of going about issues. (Not targeting you in specific). There were a few mesmer related things that were too strong and people aknowledged that and there is still a few things but overall 99% of the things people complain about are very easy to deal with if you actually take the time to learn the matchup.
Also if someone runs the 1 clone + chronoplantasma kitten they’re missing out on traits that are actually good, who the hell would be running that? Thats like not deceptive evasion. Oh wait..

Beta So Far [PvP]

I’m gonna be posting my limited experience from what I’ve spent playing the beta features in PvP.
I’ve tried everything so far and here is my brief overview(excluding rev because I already posted in the rev forum):

Chronomancer -> The amount of alacity that you can get is really, really good, maybe a bit too much. Shield I don’t like that much, its basically a better focus but I don’t find it enjoyable to use (the block doesn’t seem that good for anything other than a block and the tides of time skills is somewhat funky to use and easily dodged. and basically in a shatter build torch is better.
The slow is kind of not as good as I thought it would be, I thought it’d be OP but I don’t get that feeling, with the grandmaster trait there is maybe a bit too much application of it, should be reduced. The trait combo of 222 meaning superspeed to shattered illusions, quickness + alacity to yourself is REALLY good and I love it, it makes you play super super super fast and really fits the chronomancer theme might be a bit too good but seeing as it’s just to the mesmer it could be okay. I’d just suggest maybe reducing the amount of alacity one gets by shattering a clone.
I’ve not tried all of the wells but the elite well seems very underwhelming, the cc is great but its basically only good for the 2s float on downed bodies to prevent ressurections ect, I’d really like to see the damage it does increased or something added to it.
F5 is just pure awesomeness. Its not easy to use but rewards good use, has many applications.

Reaper -> Greatsword is very bad for PvP, its VERY easy to kite the necromancer given the slow speed of the attacks and the class itself. This is where chill was supposed to kick in but it doesn’t really work out, the meta staff + d/wh will outpreform greatsword, maybe increase the attack speed a tiny bit.
Reaper Shroud is REALLY fun to use and really good, I wouldn’t change much about it. Dhuumfire + shroud 1 is a great combo, especially if you take the +15% attack speed trait. I feel like reaper shroud won’t really work that well for condi builds except a possible burn build. There are a few combos which are really basically useless if you run both gs and reaper shroud, if you use greatsword 4 into shroud 4 it sends out a bunch of leeching bolts which don’t really do anything.
Chilling Victory + Bitter Chill + Deaths embrace combined seems like it could be a bit overpowered if you manage to hit shroud 5 into shroud 4 onto the enemy, that will basically give you 25 might + 25 vulnerability on the enemy.
Most of the shouts I see as very situational. The Weaklings shout could be good in some PvE scenarios. Overall I’m not a huge fan of them.

Tempest -> I’ve not played much of tempest. What I’ve observed is that it has gross amount of protection uptime, the overcharging atts is very easy to interrupt. For now I don’t think anyone will use this in PvP because of how standard d/d elementalist is like at the moment, everything is basically irreplacable. Even if d/d gets nerfed I still hardly see it being used because of the simple fact that the things elementalist has currently just outpreforms tempest.

Dragonhunter -> I feel like its very cc aimed and rewards ccing enemies with the ccing cripples enemies, deal more damage to crippled enemies trait, the traps I don’t necesseraly see being used except maybe for negating shadow refuge or resurrections via the reveal trap.
Longbow 5 I’d say is really strong and maybe a bit too much, thats potentially like having 5 ring of wardings that have +1s duration + damage all from range at kitten cd compared to hammer ring 5s duration on 40s cd. I know people will leave the AOE most of the time but say if you use it during someone resurrecting a player it could mean the end of the fight if your team follows it up with damage. I’d perhaps tone down that skill but other than that I like it. The virtues are really good, the F2 especially.

One of the main things I feel like revenant is lacking is healing. I’m running a s/s + st zerk build and its neraly impossible to play because its a zerk melee class with little healing, the shiro stance requires me to use the quickness + the sword shadowstep with multiple attacks if I want to heal quickly which is very resource heavy. It is true that revenant has a decent amount of evades, damage negating traits and elites, and no one has gotten to grips with it yet but I feel like even if that was mastered, some more healing would benefit revenant heavily.

Well even though half this thread is just well known trolls, I’ll say what I think.
Mesmer is perfectly fine at the moment except CS and PU. The air fire nerf as well as the mirror blade makes it hard to 1 shot, its almost impossible, I’ve gotten mirror blade mind wracks ect into thieves and I’ve yet to 1 shot a thief honestly. Max I’ve taken is 90% HP and given the fact that thieves generally are really slippery, especially for mesmer and that you can’t 1 shot anything else at the moment, the damage is perfectly fine. Portal has always been here and no one complained about it for years, nothing has changed that would make people change their minds.
PU needs a bit of a nerf and CS ICD increased to 7 or 9 seconds. Most mesmers SUCK big time as is and the reason people are still doing bad vs them is because they don’t know how to play vs them, same way no one has even half a clue on how to fight ranger. It takes some time. I NEVER die to mesmers in soloq. Why? Because I know how the class works and how to counter it. When people will learn that they will see that its not as OP as they think. Before the crying was sort of justified because the mantra is indeed carrying really bad players and it was just too good (talking about stun mantra, not the mantra build, that one sucks) but I don’t see reason for crying aynmore. The ICD on CS is loooong now because the only daze we have is diversion, lockdown builds will still run the mantra but it won’t be as often as before because of the mantra cd fix so I think even CS is fine right now.

I’ll test out builds and I’ll be doing reaper vs x duels (so people can try to duel me on chrono if they’d like, tired of playing mes vs mes, had too many of them lately.) I preordered HoT just so I can get my hands on Chrono first, I can’t wait!

Why do mesmers have so much stealth?

This is wrong on a lot of levels.
If mesmer bursts from stealth here are all the mistakes he did:
1) Mirror blade won’t bounce -> Loss of around 2K damage + 3 might and 3 vuln on you which further decreases damage
2) Mind wrack only hits from the 1 clone that spawned instead of from you as well -> Loss of around 2-4k damage
3) PLENTY of time for the enemy to dodge it -> High possibility of the entire “burst” to be avoided.
So the thing is, if you can’t react to a mirror blade from range, then maybe PvP is not for you and I don’t mean this to be insultive or anything, that is really easy to avoid.
You may say “oh well he will mantra stun me”. Stun break into dodge but honestly, the amount of damage it will do if he range mind wracks you is just low that its almost no big deal unless you’re a zerk class and you’ve gotta watch out for all damage that is being applied to you.

Clones don’t actually do any damage, their attacks do like 1 damage literally
Phantasms can be a pain but the thing is if the mesmer goes stealth, you can kill the phantasm in 2 autoattacks instead of just standing still.

And the reason mesmer has all those invulns ect is because without them mesmer is basially dead. If you forced the mesmer to use blink and distortion he doesn’t have anything left to live. Look at him and keep notice of when he uses those and after he does you can just go full offensive on him and there is nothing he will be able to do.

Also mesmer has like 1/5th the stealth of thief. You only have two – Decoy and Pledge and both last around 6 seconds, so while it may be a longer duration you can only use it for yourself and can only access it 2 times. Meanwhile thief can stack up to 10s AoE stealth then after the 10s is done they can put down shadow refuge and stealth their whole team again and after that they can re-do the 10s stealth via cluster bombs, they can also give themselves over 10s stealth in really short periods of time so I think that its silly to complain about mesmer stealth.

Nerf mantras, nerf PU to 150% stealth instead of 200% but even 200 is fine IMO because of the limited ways we can actually go into it, while its somewhat of a ‘long duration’ (equal to 2 HS through blinding powder on both decoy and torch which isn’t that much IMO). I’d also double the icd on CS or make it 7-8 seconds. Mantras carry bad players heavily and are I’d say among the top reasons of why mesmer is getting so much crying.
Also I’d rather they get a kitten good matchmaking system first. HoT is flooding the game with new players so every decent/top player that soloqs gets put in completely useless teams and its just unplayable unless you go duo/trio/quad/penta q
I think the game is fine as is. Everything is somewhat OP and not all builds are easy easy, the ones that are (like mantra inspi mes, generally mantra mes) need to be nerfed, I’d also nerf ele a bit because its just too tanky at the moment, either get rid of a chunk of that damage or survivability.

inb4 Anet buffs inspi mantra build and nerfs Chaos line \o/

Just another mesmer burst

You had a little set of damage coming and then like a 0.5s pause before the mind wracks, you could of used lightning reflexes in those 0.5s or your invuln. It could of been avoided, but this one would require you to expect this to happen which you sort of should since you were solo vs a zerg meaning a lot of mesmers there that can sneak up on you like that. There is now other way to counter the mesmer stealth burst, you’ve gotta be on your toes and as soon as a little bit of damage hits you you need to either insta stunbreak and dodge or invuln. I’m curious to see how the fight would of turned out if the mesmer failed his burst.

I think blinding thing needs to be fixed its not ok for it to go through block ect, but I don’t think these bursts are a problem really. Every mesmer I get in a game does that and you know what I do when I get in that setup? I decoy and dodge or distort as soon as I get stunned, thus avoiding all the burst. How can one do that? Because its always at such a predictable time because people suck at mesmer. Then you know what the mesmer does? He uses blink and decoy and fails to disengage. When he sees me he does a 1 second distort and then gets smacked. This keeps happening over and over and over and over again. People will learn how to fight this, they will always be prepared to insta stun break and dodge because if they do that, its game over for the skilless brandwagon mesmer and the amount of bandwagon hoppers will be reduced dramastically. They’ll go back to playing stone heart d/d ele or something. I’m alright with mantra being nerfed or cs or something. I’d be actually very happy if they were to make it so that cs is removed and replaced with shatter recharge trait, do that and fix the blind thing, leave PU as is since the actual PU build will only include 2 stealths and while they are 6s duration they’re on a 30+s cooldown and stealth can only be accessed 2 times. Granted thats if people don’t go for moa but since Anet balances around top tier PvP where moa is needed, it’ll be fine, maybe nerf mass invis a bit and make it a 4s stealth base instead of 5.

“No thieves in PvP” – What game do you play? EVERY team in the game NEEDS a thief if they wan’t to be competitive. The fact that you think mesmer is easy and have trouble vs those bandwagon hoppers is just amazing to me. I don’t see why its hard to save shadowstep for the stun or blinding powder into dodge to get a basically free kill.

I think people are panicking for no reason. Mesmer is not overpowered, its strong versus new players and casuals who don’t really have any reaction time and the fact that they have to react and think a bit now is what is making mesmer OP. I can’t count how many mesmers just use the daze into burst combo and its just plain horrible. People don’t know how to do damage in other ways because they just learn the simplest combo and with time people will realize that most mesmers play like that and really can’t survive if it fails because most mesmers suck because you can’t just go through rotations or spamming buttons, you’ve gotta think about what you’re doing, plan ahead, predict enemy move ect and a lot of the bandwagon guys don’t do that. Then they will realize oh look, when I get stunned I can just stun break and dodge. Then the mesmer is easy kill because he is a bad player and will probably tank a lot of my damage.
If you want to play mesmer versus good people you need a lot of skill still. Not as much as pre-patch but close. PU could get a little bit of tweaking but I don’t see a reason to nerf anything else because its really just L2P.
Power block is annoying yes but its not OP. It takes timing to interrupt a skill + you’ve gotta be in LOS ect. Spamming the mantra won’t do any good and realistically its mostly used on the heal which if is interrupted no matter if its on 15s or 5s cooldown, you’re probably dead so it doesn’t make a difference, you can also LOS the mantra. Other skills its not that big of a deal to have a 15s cooldown on.
