Just tossing my 2c on why Smith is griefing us all and denying us data.
Well to be fair he finally did answer the question, which is, to sum up, “There will be a blog post about it in the future, but can’t tell you when beacause it is Anet policy to never give a date there are lots of more important things to do before.”
But I can understand Zegai.8256… being completely ignored and given only off topic answers is not very nice…
7.3 mithril + 0.2 snowflake + recycling cost = 0.7 ecto
if this formula is true then we have :
7.3 * ( 0.6 ~ 0.8s) + 1s + 0.6s = 0.7 ecto
6.71s = 0.7 ecto
6.71s = 0.7 * 25s = 17.5s
6.71s = 17.5s ?? yaaaa
no comment
Two days after the recipe was introduced we had mithril at 0.9s, snowflake at 26s, and still rising, to soon reach the equilibrium. Which is what happen every time Anet make a modification to the game that afect the market: the ones who see it first can make a lot of money out of it beacause the price of TP did not adjusted yet, and then it becomes like all the rest: unprofitable because everyone is doing it.
And you forgot to take into account the 15% fee of the TP for reselling ectos
You are aware that in jewelcrafting there is no other way and in all the other disciplines that happens with using T6 mats, which cannot be recovered at 1 to 1 ratio? Again, those recipes consume mats. The snowflake exploit produced mats. Whats difficult to grasp here?
So mithril and snowflake are not crafting materials. That’s what is dificult to grasp in your reasoning.
BTW it’s T5 not T6, and 3 ectos for jewels, since it is the rare recipes we are talking about, not exotics
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
You are aware you can generate ectos out of 0 ectos by crafting rares other than jewels?
And there is no “infinite loop”, since it consumes mithril and snowflake.
Actually any recipe in this game can be writen in the form of an equation: stuff1 + stuff2 = other stuff
This recipe was on average:
7.3 mithril + 0.2 snowflake + recycling cost = 0.7 ecto
(Note I am talking about the “best” recipe in terms of benefits: no black lion kits way too expenstive, no orichalcum)
Not infinite loop to see here, just transformation of something into something else, whose price are driven by the market.
Reading comprehention ftw..
I would call the loss of snowflake negligible regardless of its cost.
No problem of comprehention here. Or actually yes, it seem we do not share the same definiton of the word “negligible”, so we will have to agree to disagree here.
(beacause I really don’t see how anything can be negligible regardless of its cost, when all is about generating a profit)
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
Please stop with this nonsense. The exploit was only the fact that you crafted and salvaged an item with negligable item loss 80%/100% of the time due to recipe being incorrectly designed.
I’m sorry, 20% is negligeable??? When the material cost to make it is 60s+, it is not so negligeable no.
The drop rate of an unbreakable bell from a witersday gift is around 0.005%
Now THAT is negligeable.
1) It is a solo game… if you want to play solo. Yet I have much more fun playing with guildies, and I think it is nice to not be too much forced to play groups for the people who don’t want to.
But you are right that having a bit more diversified / challenging group content would be a good thing.
2) Same thing as 1. I mostly agree, but it seem to me you need to be forced to play as group to do it, otherwise you play solo. Why is that? (Sure there is some lack of challenge for hardcore players… but that does not prevent you playing in group and having fun)
3) They very certainly should NOT put a WoW gear evolution. That was like the main point of GW2, so very bad idea.
But the thing is… if they remove this *(which is a good thing) they need to replace it by something else to compenstate, to keep the very end game interesting. They tried, with gear skins, legendaries etc… but it seems it is not quite enough to satisfy hardcore players
Not sure it is the right forum to post this but anyway...
I just recieved a very nice PM on these very forums selling gold
2000G+200G=540USD Only!
**Sight**
Is that new or was I just lucky to not have recived those before?
When people are BREAKING DOWN HIGH-END RECIPES rather than selling them, because BREAKING DOWN THE GOOD IS MORE PROFITABLE, the recipe is clearly broken.
Funny, have you ever tried crafting any rare silk shoulders for instance?
Here is one recipe: http://www.gw2db.com/recipes/7722-rampagers-masquerade-mantle
People have been crafting those thouthand of times, and created ectos out of 0 initial ectos. Not an exploit.
I think you forgot a detail, what makes a recipe profitable to recycle is the price of the material SET BY PLAYERS ON THE TP.
There wasn’t any way to tell that this recipe was wrong.
Guh. Seriously?
This recipe takes only ONE ecto-based upgrade material to craft, as compared to FIVE every single other similar recipes take.
How people still insist that “there’s nothing wrong with the recipe” is beyond me…
The recipe that was used is the rare one, requiring “usually” 3 ectos, not 5. And you do realise that on halloween they introduced exotic recipes requiring 3 ectos instead of 5. So requiring 1 ecto instead of 3 for the rare one is not that wierd (And was done on purpose to make those recipes attracting. But they probably forgot that rares can be recycled for ectos…)
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
If you read other threads pertaining to it, you’d get the answer you’re looking for.
Basically, you would put in 1 ecto and GUARANTEE get more than 1 ecto back.
Making stacks of ectos with only 1 ecto with no drawback is what made this an exploit.
Wrong. You created 0 to 3 ecto (average estimated to 0.9) + 1 to 3 mithril (average estimated to 1.5) from 8 mithril + 20% chance of losing 4 mithril, 1 ecto and 1 pristine snowflake.
(I am only talking about the most rentable recipe, using orichalcum or using black lion kits make it much less interesting in terms of benefits)
So on average (if you are not unlucky with RNG) the recipe is
7.3 mithril + 0.2 pristine snowflake + the price of recycling = 0.7 ecto
So yes please John, how is that an obvious exploit ? And how is it destroying the economy ?
Or did I miss something ? Are my RNG estimations wrong on the recycling ? Or was this not the best recipe to use ?
And what is really hilarious, is that the guys who made the most gold out of this recipe, are the ones who bought all the mithril and snowflake early, and simply sold them back to the “exploiters” at a higher price. Those guys are still in the game, “Cuz you know, playing the market is not an exploit compared to this”, yet they are rich thanks to this “exploit”
(I am not even talking about the lack of communication, we only learned it was an exploit the day the recipe was removed. Also http://i.imgur.com/0SICA.jpg etc…)
[disclaimer] I didn’t used this recipe, because by the time I learned about it it was already not interesting. Talk about destroying the economy.
Edit: note that if I seem upset, it’s beacause I would have used this recipe whithout thinking twice. At least the 21 Karma weapon was obvious, even though the comunication part was still bad imho
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
What is hilarious is all the people who are like “Good Job Anet Ban all those filthy exploiters” without even knowing the exact recipe. “Cuz you know, it’s an exploit because you created something out of nothing”
Yeah, obvious exploit.
And what is really hilarious, is that the guys who made the most gold out of this recipe, are the ones who bought all the mithril and snowflake early, and simply sold them back to the “exploiters” at a higher price. Those guys are still in the game, “Cuz you know, playing the market is not an exploit compared to this”
Cheers

Jesus toast, haven’t you said enough about the unbreakable bell?
I love how one person has bad luck and gets 1 in 20,000 and suddenly that’s the confirmed drop rate. If you spent less time complaining about it on the forums and more time playing the game I bet you’d have it by now.
Check https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/wintersday/Unbreakable-Bells-found-about-1-20-000
I would say that 8 bells for 160 000 gift starts to point to the figure 1 in 20 000 and not just “bad luck”
But considering how potentialy annoying this object can be, I think this droprate is justified.
Same here no reward on the first completion of the day, 3 gift boxes on the second…
Bump.
Still no official answers to know if the “old” tonics will ever be sellable?
@DrMatt: Either you are super lucky or the chances are higher than I thought…
Edit: and also, if I read the info from spidy correctly, you probalbly could have sold it for 250g… but that is still some awesome ROI on 500 bags…
- Go ingame
- Look for lemon on TP
Yup they cleared the Accound bound trash from the TP. No idea what is the bug with spidy showing trades that are not happening of objects that are not on the TP anymore…
Did it on 2nd try. I expected it to be difficult with random people, but I guess I got lucky with my group.
Basically allways build something except when Tox is here. Walls around Doylacs, catapult and turets evenly placed all around. When tox is here take the rifle, go away from the middle and shot her repetedly, you can take the aggro fairly easily and pull her away so that she does not destroy the turets.
One Doylack lost 1/3 of his life at the beggining, and then they were never hit again for the rest of the game !
They do, but their “guessed” droprate is about 1 out of 10000 (guessed, beacause with such low probability it would require an enormous sample to estimate it precisely, more than the amount of ToT bags available on the TP actually)
Endless tonics can be sold for a lot of gold (especially beacause of the low supply due to the bug that the ones you got before the patch that made them sellable remained account bound, even if it is not writen in the tooltip anymore), but you have to like gambling to try to get one at such odds.
That would be an awesome (and dificult) title to get… but first it would require that Anet fixes all the DE bugs for this achievement to be obtainable… Not there yet I’m afraid
They are not stakable? … that sucks. So you really can only sell one if you opened a ToT bag after the patch.
Well, in the meantime, buy orders are rising to 175g and sell order to 250g. The more Anet waits to fix it, the higher it will sell… except if they never fix it XD
@Einherjar.6709 : You do not play D/D Ele do you?
- Shocking Aura : This is a nerf. (well bug fix really) Your standard D/D build has 30 in arcana: 30% boon duration. Add bonuses from runes, and we actually lost 3-4 seconds of duration of the aura. Instead now it can’t be dispelled. But most D/D build are based on boons, so you always had tons of boons on top of it so it would not have been dispelled anyway.
- Signet of Air. Is there any D/D ele using this signet? We already have so much mobility, this would be a waste of Utility skill really. (And I believe most D/D builds are based on cantrips, not signets)
- Stone Splinters: it increase the range of the effect, not the range of our skills, and we don’t have much skills with a range > 300 in D/D. (And I don’t use this anyway, but maybe some D/D do)
- Magnetic Grasp: it always have been a leap finisher… util last patch were they bugged it, so not actually an improvment, just came back to the original not bugged skill.
- Pyromancer Puissance: lol? which D/D build uses 30 points in fire? Hell which build uses even 1 point in fire?
So not much of a buff no.
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
You are forgotting water 4 and change of attunment to air (no need to waste your heal to have perma swiftness)
But if I want to outrun someone (or a centaur as my character seems to want to do that very often…) I prefer air 4
(Also, I don’t try to have perma swiftness during a fight. But it is up 70% of the time just by doing normal skill rotations )
Anet will put 5 Minis at 350 gems each and 4 weapon skins at 500 gems each.
I don’t know if thee will be object exclusive to the chests though, but to me it seems they are listening this time with non RNG purchases.
(And I will continue not to buy chests, but the rest is interesting)
Legendaries got better stats than exotics for a few hours after the introduction of Ascended items. And were quickly corrected.
For WvW, people not rendering can still happen, but I think they made improvments.
You guys might want to cut this out you’ve found a way to earn gold and that might just be an exploit in action people, can we get a word on weather this is an exploit from a mod here?
It is standard mystic forge use.
Unless using the mystic forge in itself is an exploit, or is earning gold inherently an exploit?
(This method is very inefficient now that the market adjusted anyway)
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
There is 5% listing sale (that you pay and lose forever when you post your item) and a 10% tax when the object is actually sold, taken from the benefits of the sale.
So a total of 15% tax given you do not remove and relist your item multiple times.
On other news, did you completely clear you pick up tab? Because the gold will not appear if you have too many items waiting to be picked up.
(Pick up tab only shows the ~100 first items, and gold is treated as an item in their list
if the info is so old, pls explain the 15s drop in prices only hours after creation of this post
Price was 38 when you started your post. price is now 30. It is good but don’t exaggerate
But now pebble price doubbled or tripled, and nuggets rose significantly too and this combination ROI is now near 0 (maybe even negative). Which means it is probably not going to go down much more.
Well actually it could… if with your post you managed to scare the people who bought tons of these doubloon, and now start to sell them to avoid losses and crash the prices. If that works, then well done
Someone bought it at this insane price?
… maybe buying 100 000 ToT bags would actually be a good idea >.<
Interesting, so then you “just” have to get a new endless tonic! Why don’t you buy 100 000 Trick or treat bags to try to drop one? … XD
Or wait for Anet to correct this but… I’m afraid that’s not on their top 10 priority list (or even top 1000 for that matter…)
RNG boxes
I don’t like it. I think non RNG item sales would be better. But other than that I don’t care, I will simply not buy those. Certainly not worthy of raging upon as they can simply be totally ignored.
Jumping puzzle
To me Clock Tower and Lost Shores Jp were one of the best part of the events. Clock tower was not perfect (other players blocking the view, annoying waiting time) but once I finnaly finished it, I could repeat it over and over without getting bored of it, and for this reason it is one of the best imho.
Not failures
So clearly I would not call previous events failures. Especially not Halloween, which was not perfect but very much enjoyable. Lost Shore was much shorter… and hundred time more laggy and buggy, which is my real concern regarding the event.
But Anet is learning from their mistake. No laggfest “one time” event for Wintersday (so no whining “I was cleaning my mother basement”, and Australia will be happy ), every one can re do previous events, and claim the final reward in a 2 week time frame (so no whining “I didn’t got my reward”). Information given ahead of time (so no whining “where do I go I need someone to held my hand”)
Really I am quite optimistic about it. If they tune down the RNG a bit and for once manage to pull of events that are not bugged it would be perfect
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
Since Wizard’ kitten is censored, it means it is actually a bad thing to have. I don’t want it :P
BTW wasn’t this hat obtainable during Halloween? (After playing Mad King Says). But maybe that’s another one.
Well I think they should add it to the gem store (if it’s not already there), but… are you seriously gonna complain for a uselessanduglyandwasteofstoragespace hat?
People must love to complain for the sake of complaining.
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
At some point, kitten will become a swear word, and it will be censored… and replaced by puppy.
(And then the cycle will repeat)
Thank you for the good laugh!
FYI the loot tables a modifiable yes… associated with the monsters/chests/whatever, thus affecting everyone when modified. There is no way they would have created loot tables associated to each player. No point and way too much work.
Edit: Now that I think about it, they could apply to you a permanent DR debuff actually…
But seriously, unless you have a personal ennemy who is dev at Anet, they are not even going to waste 2 minutes to do such a pointless thing when they have much more important things to do.
Also when you “hear people have drop 7-8 rings out of 9 runs”, well they didn’t. Just lying / exagerating. Otherwise if we believe what people says, the karka event should have droped around 200 000 precursors and their price would be 2g each now.
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
Also I forgot to mention, but it proceded to bug the final event. My friends had two hammers, and ended up destroying the seal while the boss was still alive (with 25% HP) and then finished the boss.
Fortunately we were able to continue to the next fractal after that.
Just a thought, did you try to add the “old” ones on top of the new ones instead? Maybe it takes the property of the “arrival” object. (Or maybe not… but i can’t try it right now)
In any case, if you have an endless tonic you would need to find a new one to do this… Someone knows what is the chance of the ToT bags to drop one? I could not find this info anywhere…
So if you stack with old ones you can’t sell it? That sucks. The other way around would have been a nice workaround to the problem… too bad.
Thanks for the test
Where : Fractal CliffSide
When : Sunday, 9 December 7pm GMT
Scenario : (Not 100% sure it is enough to reproduce… need people to try this)
After destroying the 2 seals before the last fight, take the hammer (Yes in theory you should not take it as you don’t need it for the final boss), and fall with it…
Enjoy
Well a bit sad I didn’t get to loot the chest, but compensated by a good laugh
A good way to troll actually… because if your group wipes, it wont reset, because you are stuck there! Good thing my friends were good enough to finish it without me.
They sucided after having looted the chest to see if I would reset, but no luck.
We can see some mysterious shapes. I’m pretty sure one is the Jungle Fractal. The others may be other fractals but I’m not sure which ones… Maybe some new ones!

A guy called “applecup” says that Apple Castle does not make sense… What?
And if you did the order of whispers story… Apple Castle is actually a really (really) fitting name!!! (Tybalt FTW, thank you for making me discovering this detail )
But I can understand how it could be annoying to hear people repeatedly misspronuncing words
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
I can outrun a centaur (I wish this one triggers ONLY when there are centaurs around)
“I was going to make a bad salad joke… but now I don’t feel like it”
Anet please… I want to know what was the salad joke!!!
The way game works now I don’t think there is way to go with people and then solo (boots after last guy leaves).
Well they could wait at the waypoint while you solo it ^^
And yes, I used map exploit.
EXPLOIIIIIIIIIIT!!! BAN HIM!!!
… just kidding XD
(In the same register: WARRIOR OP! NERF! :P)
Well from http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/36106 we can tell that so far there have been a great total of 2 to 4 tonics on the TP
One that sold at 150 gold (or the guy removed its sell order, but would have wasted 7.5 gold…)
The one at 199 gold (still there)
One that sold at 45 gold.
And one that filled the order at 68 gold (or the guy removed its buy order…)
What is funny is that it suddenly gave some value to the trick or treat bags.
http://www.guildwarstrade.com/item/36038
One days after the endless tonic was put on TP, the demand for ToT increased.
But it would be good if Anet could correct this bug… I am sure there are a few hundred waiting to be sold
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
You know you play too much Guild Wars 2 when you type /age … and that the number displayed is scarry
You know you play too much Guild Wars 2 when you want to make bad salad jokes (yet don’t fell like it…)
Karka bag = 10 gold
Karka earing = 1000 Karka Shell = 40 gold +
2 rares + 2 trash exotics = 2-5 gold
minimum reward from chest = 50 gold
That’s what i got. Sucks not to be on the lucky precusror jackpot winners side, but I’m not gonna complain.
And it’s not as if 300 threads like this were already created from the Karka event
(edited by Kethryes.5712)
Well they are considered by many as the best possible rune to get. So lots of people want them and are ready to pay a lot to get them. I’m glad I bought mine early when they were at 2g each !
Oh… I missed that, I guess it explains this, lots of people wanted this kit…
Well I think we could very well even have 2g → 1gem and more yes.
In theory there is no hard cap. But only the devs know how works the black box put around Gold/gem exchange. (But if it is only player driven there should be no cap)
I don’t understand why the price of gems is spiking though… I mean there is a huge difference between what happened with Halloween and what happenned with Lost Shores.
With Haloween there was a spike up to 1g → 80 gems, and then quickly went back to 1g → 125 gems. With Lost Shores + Black Friday it went up to 1g → 70 gems… and went up again AFTER black friday to 1g → 50 which I don’t understand…
(And now they announced Wintersday so it is not going down…)
Well maybe it is the fact that it went down after Halloween that is the anomaly…
@Boldor: clear you tab – problem solved
It happens to me all the time. You actually have more than 100 objects in your tab, but it only shows the first 100, and your gold is treated as an object, situated after those 100.
@Tallis :
Anet does not sell gold. Anet sells Gems. You can then exchange you gems for gold of another player.
Or at least that’s suposed to be the idea, although I am not a great fan of the black box around Gem/Gold converstion. I think gems could have been just like any other TP good. But I guess it would allow the guy with a lemon of 3800 gold to control the market by himself and that would not be so good maybe…
@OP: I can understand your intentions: having a game without bugs but it is not a solution. You obviously don’t know how development work. Adding $$ and people in the project will not magically get the bugs fixed faster.
Someone mentioned Brook’s law. New people need to be formed and learn how the current code works, and with such big programs it takes months, even years: a guy who is here since the beginning and coded the game will achieve more in one day than 100 newcommers who have no idea where to look in the million lines of code.
But more importantly they have processes that they have to follow, which inherently make correcting a bug slow: coding, then reviewing, then testing with QA. It takes weeks even if it was just a minor modification, and it does not depend of the number of people in the company.
And seeing how some corrections are failed, I think they are already trying to rush those processes (a bit too much imho).
No OP title is right:
Gems value will crash… the roof
As with all the exotics: Big ancient karka event gave them away like candy -> massive price drop.
And it’s funny you talk about Reyna because I actually did get a part of Reyna armour in the chest. Waiting for it to rise up again before selling… (if it ever happens >.<)
