Dual Monitor Support: Always-On-Map

Turning “this” into “this” as that guy stated would make my day. However I can see that having a full screen map open could be debated as an advantage in pvp (map awarness is a big deal in spvp) and and it’s clear they are trying to eliminate those kinds of variables.

What I do think would be perfectly fair and still highly desirable would be to allow having the mini map, chat box, quest log, xp bar, bags and other nonessential UI elements on a second monitor. It would just make PVE and the likes more immersive and give little if any advantage to a player with a second screen over one without. It definitely woudl be no greater advantage then having a higher resolution screen and reducing ones UI size.

Yeeaah! So there’d be nothing between u and Tyria. T’would be pretty fantastic

I agree with more flexible trait system. They should be simple and easy to deal with like attribute points in Gw1 so it’s possible to properly switch builds on the fly.

Having the skIlls themselves be customizable, I think is opening a can of worms. People may then be asking for every single skill to be customizable which would be a lot to do. I think it would be great if it were something only for elite skills though.

Personally, I don’t really see the need for new traits. I’d be satisfied enough with plenty of new weapon skills.

Class specific armors

in Suggestions

Keyno.8431

I miss profession specific armors too, but the developers would have to release 8 armors at a time, each profession receiving only one of these. This would make for more diversity between the professions, but it might be slower getting profound individual customizability this way, unless the devs really go to town and make like… 24 new armor sets right off the bat (3 for each). In the end I guess it would be worth it, but Gw2 just needs more customization in general. It would be more efficient to keep the current system. That way, if the devs did suddenly decide to release 24 new sets, each weight class would get 8 new armors, which would be tons of pieces to mix up lots of new outfits with. Some people don’t like to mix and match but personally, I really love it….

So, profession specific or not, Gw2 just needs more armor customization options.

New armor set ideas and Order Armors

Keyno.8431

I think it would be nice if we could actually wear the order armor while we’re doing the order personal story quests.
For example, we could get some sort of tokens as rewards from the quests in the first part of the Order quest arc (lvls 31-39) and then with those tokens we could purchase a lvl 40 version of the order armor.
The lvl 80 order armor set could still exist, but this way we could wear the order armor for the rest of the Order quest arc. It would help me feel like I’m actually a member of the order I’ve chosen.

I agree. It would be awesome if there were different versions of the same kind of armor like GW1 had Luxon, Kurzik, Canthan etc. armor then Elite versions of all those armors.

I also liked how those gw1 armors looked appealing yet didn’t require getting married to the game to acquire…

Gw2 just needs more armor choices in general.

I read a developer article that mentioned a problem with adding new armor: people who’ve slaved to acquire a set of ascended armor may feel that their achievements are invalidated by a new tier of armor coming out. That’s understandable, but I hope it doesn’t mean that no new in-game armors will be made.

In any case, I don’t mind going to the gem store for new armor and I hope more will come soon. I just have to say though, that the long, draping cloth/coat designs aren’t very satisfying because the cloth is just too rigid, the way its modeled. I understand that making the cloth more dynamic and flowy would be taxing on players’ GPU so I don’t expect this to change. However, it still drives me slightly crazy that there are so many long armors like this. As a compromise for the future, I’d love to see some simpler short coats for the mans and some shorter, tighter dresses for the ladies, as well as some lovely elegant pants like the elite Luxon Mesmer from gw1

I’d also like to see interchangable weapon skills to keep weapon fresh and preventing from becoming rather dull/boring. But thats probably not happening any time soon.

This would be the best possible thing to happen in my opinion.
For example, the thief’s shortbow is a mobile AOE weapon, so thieves should have other weapon skills of this nature to choose from with their bow.
It might create certain build popularity issues with more skills, but I would much prefer that over having to use the same skills forever (I’m primarily a PVE player though so that’s me).

There could at least be a couple more variations on dreads (tied back or shorter twists, with buzzed on the sides). The women are seriously lacking on this front too. For humans, there are no dreadlock options, no ethnics braids or permed curls… basically just all white hair…

I would be happy if one of the bi-weekly updates was just redoing the customization.
Character

  • Slider for fat/muscle ratio
  • More hair/facial hair options
  • More faces and face customization tools
  • Scars and tattoo options for all races
  • Voice options- Different voices and personalities(tough, neutral, weak)

Armor

  • Switching armor locations (ex: glove from left had to right hand, etc)
  • Armor viewing by piece (ex: hide one side of the shoulder armor)
  • Use Mystic Forge to upgrade armor skins:
ex: Bloodstone dust, Mystic Coin, armor piece, and Molten Loadstones to create a fire effect to the armor(or some other combination of items). Loadstones could be switched with other items to give electric, wind, ice, crystal, earth, spirit, undead, etc effects.

Yup, you’ve got the right idea.

For the body sliders, they should also be divided into regions (torso, arms, belly, thighs shins etc.)

Hope Anet takes our suggestions…

New class Chronomancer ideas

in Suggestions

Posted by: Keyno.8431

Keyno.8431

possibly and I agree with you that the Mesmer does have a few time based skills, but the chronomancer seems like it was meant to be a guild wars 1 profession that would’ve been release in utopia, it is the closest I think we will get to a new class because the others are basically all already used, (dervish, monk, paragon) guardian (ritualist) engineer (assassin) theif (warrior) warrior (mesmer) Mesmer (elementalist) elementalist (necro) necromancer (ranger) ranger. Although Mesmer, theif, and ranger aren’t quite what they were in GW1

I also agree that the Mesmer profession includes. chronomancy to a degree. (Maybe it’s not very apparent in their aesthetics, but conceptually it’s true).

dervish and paragon were pretty unique. I hadn’t seen anything like them before. So I don’t doubt that Anet could come out with something completely new if they wanted to. Maybe it would be some form of chronomancer, maybe not.
But, I really don’t know how seriously they’re looking at a new profession right now. As much as I’d love to see one, I just get a feeling that that’s not going to happen anytime soon (hopefully I’m wrong though).

On another note,
You could never convince me that the engineer fills the hole that losing my rit left behind…. Never. (Lol, but seriously). you could say that they function in pretty similar ways, but it was more than just the mechanics that made the Ritualist the Ritualist. (:

Guild Wars 2: Bard Profession

in Suggestions

Keyno.8431

I really don’t know about a “bard” on the battlefield….. Just seems a wee bit silly to me (at least following the actual definition of a bard).
I do agree though, that a profession that influences allies and foes through some kind of magic combined with music would be cool. If anything, I’d imagine it sort of like the Ritualist from GWF (Makes me think ‘spirit of bloodsong’ or ‘spirit of dissonance’)… Music is often said to be tied to the soul, so there could be this profession that specializes with non-physical realms; has an intimate understanding of what the Asura refer to as the eternal alchemy, and uses music (and sound in general) as their medium.

With enough of the Anet devs’ creative juices this could shape up to be something pretty awesome and totally unique.
In all honesty though I’m not sure how much of a priority they consider making a new profession to be right now. For some reason that just seems to me like something that would be a long way off… ):

Anyway, a profession that only has a choice between 2 weapons that aren’t really weapons doesn’t sound very attractive to me personally. Having the lute and flute as options would be pretty kitten, but there would have to be others like the staff, focus, scepter, maybe even a dagger or sword (also some kind of musical device that could be manipulated with one hand). But there would definitely need to be enough choices for players to not get bored with the profession too fast.

At first I couldn’t take this seriously (gotta be honest) but after some thought I’m starting to see the appeal.
Anyway, I just think the concept of using music in battle in some way or another is rather intriguing

Hide Chest Piece

The fact that we can’t hide chest piece is actually one of the things that’s kept me from playing a Charr. If I could, I’d have had him running around with hi black striped fur and nothing but his loincloth on, because it just looks better to me.

If one race is allowed to hide their chest piece but not the others, it’s just going to create more issues down the line. So as Deimos Tel Arin said, custom undergarments should be implemented (some in-game, with dye options, and I personally wouldn’t even mind if there were some fancier ones in the gem store as long as they’d be reasonably priced).

Customization is Key (character & armor)

Keyno.8431

I was going to make a topic about this but here goes my sugestion.

(use where you want)

I agree that customization is the key, thats why i ask why we dont have options like " shwo only left shoulderpad" or glove. I like to make thief and ranger with 1 shoulderpad armored and one very lighted for exemple… same with the gloves. We could pick parts from other gears and combine this way.

For example, the flamekissed or whatever the name is. Its a reskin, but i would love to be able just to use the right shoulder pad on my character since i hate the left one. That would open doors for creation.

( Unique and more varity on poses)

For me, i dont like staying still like everyone elses, ofc if they had poses option, the odds of other people choose the same i did is huge but still is less that not having different ones. Keeping the eyes on thief, i like thiefs with the knifes aiming towards the elbow and nto to the ground, ( he does sometimes when is too long without move) but why cant we choose the animation?

( Textures)

Simples and easy… texturized dyes !

(voice)

all my humans sound the same and all my silvarys sound the same. We need more voice packs.

This is a short text of what i think they should and hope add to the game.

I wonder the same thing. So do others.
Recently I found another thread talking about asymmetrical armor options:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/suggestions/Asymmetrical-Armor-side-switching/first#post3351080
The original poster had the same suggestion you’re talking about.
I agree and would love to see this side-switching/side-hiding option for sleeves and pant legs as well as gloves and shoulders

Having textures and patterns to apply with the dyes is also a good idea.
There are already a plethora of different dyes in the game, so I don’t think it would be practical having the dyes themselves apply textures or patterns. If perhaps patterns could be applied by different means, such as greyscale overlay swatches that are applied over the armor dye colors, this would give us that option without having to change any of the existing dyes (then we would have dye * texture = x amount of combinations).

I can see where you’re coming from with poses. The game Dragon’s Dogma has a pretty cool pose slider ranging from a timid – imposing stance. Something like this might be nice to see in GW2. Also it would be very nice if every human female (for example) didn’t do the exact same hair ruffle and stretch….

Different poses would offer a good deal more variety, but personally I think the armor is a bigger issue at the moment.

Asymmetrical Armor side switching

in Suggestions

Posted by: Keyno.8431

Keyno.8431

The thing is, it is most likely not as simple a matter as just adding a toggle button. After all, the armor on the other side does not exist.

And with it, come a bottle of issues:

  • Being able to copy the asymmetric bits to make a symmetric armor
  • Being able to turn symmetric armor into asymmetric
    • Being able to select between having symmetric or asymmetric, left or right side
  • Should only armor slots with currently asymmetric pieces be allowed this functionality (shoulder and gloves) or should it be extended to boots as well?
    • The ability to toggle your boots?
  • What about being able to mirror the designs on all pieces?

Depending on the answers, you will end up kitten ing off specific demographics of the playerbase and giving your designers and programmers a crapton of stuff to do. After all, there’s an absolutely hilarious amount of different skins in the game.

I Disagree. This would be pretty straight forward. The developers are obviously good at what they do and as a game deign student this doesn’t seem so daunting a task even for me. Gloves and shoulder parts are normally made for both sides so all that would be required is duplicating and flipping the meshes horizontally and treating them like every other glove or spaulder/mantle/shoulder pad in the game (only for this specific example only one would be allowed to be visible at a time).

I think this would be a good idea for all gloves/shoulders and not too hard to achieve.
Simply offer the option to hide one instead of both.

Customization is Key (character & armor)

in Suggestions

Keyno.8431

While those customization options are amazing, most of the games on that list suck in just about every other aspect. More customization options is always welcome but those resources are taken away from other parts of the game that need them. While it would be awesome, I would rather see all the core systems of the game improve slowly, then see nothing improve for a year or longer, just so I can rotate a pimple on my character’s nose.

A fair point. But GW2 doesn’t suck at its current state, and there’s a huge grey area between what GW2 currently has and ‘pimple rotating precision’.

Its easy to see by the amount of updates that just came out that the devs are hard at work in many areas already, and true enough they did touch on customization with the addition of new faces for the total makeover kit (though no changes to the system itself were made, which is what i’m hoping for). I’m not asking all the devs to drop everything else to work on customization. The developers work as teams within a team, one likely specializing in cosmetic aspects of the game. These suggestions are geared towards them specifically.

Customization is Key (character & armor)

in Suggestions

Keyno.8431

When I made my first character in Guild Wars 2 (a Charr), I was pretty satisfied with the level of customization that I was given. However, as time went on I realized more and more how much I was missing out on. One thing I am upset with is the fact that all my male Asurans sound exactly the same. I would have loved a customized voice, even if it was simply the option to shift pitches (I don’t believe this was covered in the video.) The second thing that bothered me more and more was that I had no option to really customize the professions themselves. If armor was a customization choice to the point where each profession could wear light, heavy, or medium (this could at least affect stats, or add a more complex feature that allows for different skill sets.) Maybe its just me, but I really like the thought of having a heavy armor necromancer charging into battle with a greatsword and a horde of minions in his wake… I also can’t even wield a greatsword with my necromancer. Thanks for making me hate Trahearne. However, after creating three separate Asurans I’m finding it hard to make them feel unique. I love character creation as part of the game, but now I really do feel like its not enough.

Different voice options is a good point.
There is a lot of dialogue, but if the script is the same, just have a second actor (maybe even a third) read through it to give more options. Maybe this is easier said than done, but if so, then at least allow us to turn on and off various combat phrases. All my female humans make it exceedingly clear that “they could outrun a centaur!”
I gradually accepted that my thief is going to say this nearly every time I dodge and receive swiftness…. I can deal with it. But my mesmer sounds exactly the same and that’s not so cool. So if not different voices or a pitch change slider, then allow us to pick and choose combat phrases. (my experience with pitch mods is that they tend to distort the voice in undesired ways like in Soul Calibur V’s character creation… maybe it can be done better though). Possibly the phrases characters say could be dependent on their Dignity/Charm/Ferocity levels, but, however its done, we need to have more variety in the is area too.

As far as different skill sets/stats resulting from proposed light/medium/heavy armor combos, this could be very interesting. I wouldn’t say the choice of armor weight shouldn’t have a very huge effect on stats as its mostly for cosmetic purposes. For the sake of it making sense, though I agree that there should be some affects. Maybe heavier armor offers more protection but less doge capability?
I agree that customization of the professions themselves is definitely something that was lost (tragically so, IMO) between GW1 and GW2 — The sheer customizability of the skill bar was one of my favorite features. With a secondary profession it was possible to play however you wanted and switch it up whenever u felt like it.. To me it was almost like a fun little puzzle game in itself experimenting with new builds in the Temple of Balthazar training grounds. I would make splinter-weapon-scythe builds with my ritualist and all sorts of crazy combos. I really miss this level of customization. It allowed the player to be creative in a way many other games didn’t. So I know how u feel regarding your full-metal-necro idea, and I’d hate Trahearne for that too. Its a tease.

For GuildWars2, the statement: “this armor/weapon type cannot be use with your profession type” is nonsense because in real life, he or she could pick it up and use it if they really wanted to. So there should at least be skills for every weapon type available to each profession, even if it requires completing some sort of training program to use it effectively (which, at the same time, would give us more content thats worthwhile).

Personally, I think that on a customization level, we should be able to “skin” any armor over each other regardless of type.
For example, medium armor skin on heavy armor(guardian wearing a trench coat)
keeping the item’s stats for profession’s armor value from the primary armor.

I agree.
This would be a quick yet effective way to start fixing the armor issue.
Note though, that it would be a double edged sword: while increasing armor diversity across the board, it would homogenize everyones options. (may not necessarily be a bad thing. Maybe I want to have misleading appearance sometimes? Power to the players.)

This idea would be made even stronger with the implementation of themed armors that really embody what each profession is about. For example, consider the Aetherblade skin which is very well suited for the engineer profession. The light and heavy Aetherblade skins would also be a great match for engineers offering players more selection. New skins should be made that mesh very well with each profession.

These new skins would definitely not go in the gem store though, because this content seems like a baseline requirement that should have been there from the beginning, fulfilling the ‘Role Playing’ aspect of the game as raseloc said.

There are many suggestions on this forum talking about issues related cosmetics and customization both for armors and the characters themselves. Here is another.
(its a big issue)

Customization is a HUGE deal for many players. This video illustrates the situation quite well. Please watch: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RO8GIoRLGa0

Frankly, GuildWars2’s character creation/customization pales in comparison to all of the games featured here.
While I understand that a creation engine like the one in APB Reloaded would require extensive funding and hours to put together, I’m certain ArenaNet could give more than what is currently offered. The face sliders are very good, but there are no hair sliders, no body sliders (muscle mass for individual body parts and yes, butt slider and boob slider for females. There is no reason not to include it when so many people want it). Norn tattoos should be applied by body parts (i.e. I like this option but I don’t want any tattoos on the face…etc.). Tattoo and accessory color options are simply not enough. humans should be able to have tattoos as well. These are just a few things. The bottom line is, I don’t want to feel like I’m flipping through a catalogue when making my character, but rather that I’m using the provided tools to build my own character to my desired specifications.

Personally I don’t know the logistics of changing the system that’s already in place, but something needs to be done, especially considering how different professions now wear the same exact armor (a SERIOUS downgrade from GW1). I just don’t feel like my character is mine.

Edit:

While my post mainly focuses on customization of the character’s bodily features, I do see increased armor diversity as an area needing more attention in GW2.

Elite Canthan, all the ones with ‘Elite’ prefix really

Those ones, I think its safe to say were good for all professions.

GW2 definitely sacrificed diversity between profession appearances. I think it was a VERY huge sacrifice and efforts should be made to bring that back, because I find it very disheartening that I know my mesmer is going to look exactly as my elementalist did: exactly as my necro looked… it diminishes the character of each profession, not to mention taking a huge chunk of the fun out of trying a new profession. Appearance is important, and I know I’m not alone here.

I would suggest that Arenanet gets much more competitive in the realm of customization.

I started partying in DOA in nightfall but after a while it got to the point of “Can i just play the friggin game already instead of standing around waiting for a party???”

In GW2 I have yet to touch a dungeon, because with no outposts, its seems to me like more effort to put a party together.

While its definitely fun and cool when you and a bunch of randoms you’ve met join forces and kick collective butt, this doesn’t happen very often (at least for me), and I’d really like to play some these dungeons. EotN had soloable dungeons did it not?

My observation with light armor (regarding females) is that the starter armor has the only skirt of its length…. at all. At least one or two alternatives for each style would be awesome, so then at least I would be able to keep that sexy look without being forced to wear the same armor I started the game with… So yes, more variety of the various styles, would be great. looks like we all agree on that.

For me, armor and customization is one of the biggest if not THE biggest motivation to play the game. And there are definitely many others like me out there, who give a lot of attention to their character’s appearance. I have no problem mixing and matching armor pieces. I actually really enjoy seeing what unique combinations I can make. And the transmutation system is very supportive of that already. So if more armor pieces that could be mixed well together (single pieces, even) were just thrown in there, as well as adding the option to have different styles of undergarments (like tights of various pattens or bandages etc.) that were visible under the armor, this would greatly increase diversity between players.

Also, I think if an NPC is wearing something, the player should definitely have the right to obtain it somehow. Otherwise, its just cruelly tantalizing…. /cough/ Countess Anise /end cough/

On another note, medium armor…. waaay to many long trench coaty armors. I personally don’t like that look at all, but more than half of the armors are like this….. sorry to go slightly off topic, but returning, the armor needs a bit more variation.

Honestly, I’m offended that people had to be offended by Cantha. Why so sensitive? Its a FANTASY game for crying out loud.
I mean, I can sort of understand the concern… Having one’s culture misconstrued by other nations through the media, etc. but while Cantha’s scenery and lore are obviously inspired by oriental influences, it’s not Chinese culture or Japanese culture… It’s not representational. it’s Canthan culture — Fantasy. Made using the Anet devs’ God-given right to be inspired, to imagine and to create. And it was beautiful.

I’m Nigerian and I thought GW Nightfall was fantastic. Theres scarcely a place in Africa that’s anything like Elona. But since I know it’s a fantasy game, I don’t get offended by names like ‘Dende’ and the ‘Ntoukas’. I know what my home is and I know what GW Nightfall is.

These games’ settings don’t really say anything about the cultures on which they are based. They tell more about the people at ArenaNet — about their interpretations of these cultures. Every individual is entitled to their own interpretations. That’s what art is about.

Slight adjustment to ground target mechanic

The ground targeting mechanic is quite awesome but I think it could use this one change to streamline its use, especially in heated combat:

Rather than turning red when your cursor drags it too far away, the target should be bound within a circle that has the radius of the skill’s range. If the cursor goes outside of this imaginary range circle, the target stays on its outer edge, the maximum possible distance from the player so that the skill can always be used.

I thought of this while I was playing my Thief and was downed. I found it too difficult trying to teleport as far away as possible from my enemy as quickly as possible…
