This feels like a reaction to the massive lull we have felt in dedicated hardcore players in WvW that were part of the backbone of the community and also interested in GvG.

The momentum is lost but perhaps there is something to salvage here, I am happy for the change but have difficulty giving Anet credit for applying a bandaid on a problem they created.

Without expecting too much, I hope this is a start.

Every GF member has put in many many hours (some of them hundreds of hours) at fight club, none of them are dumb enough to think you fight at a FC with stacks. Are you sure you didn’t simply witness a GF member removing his stacks to participate?

As for stacking and regrouping, its effective period, and if its effective for bad players, good players can make even better use of it.

if you don’t want to understand, tldr; the next part:

Stacking and grouping up tightly can counter intuitive, I would be happy for my enemy to be ignorant and think they are safe if they blob together in one spot. In an equal numbers situation strategic surround CAN be much more effective than a super tight blob.

Consider team A 20 players the surrounding and team B 20 players tightly bunched. Team B will have to move in and select a small group of players from team A to attack. While entire team A using AoE skills will hit their max aoe cap of 5 players with every skill making them much more effective. Simply watch any recent match of EP dominating with this tactic against guilds that had been previously destroying.

Tight blobs aren’t always the best strategy, even stacking regroups are not the best decisions. The real problem comes in not on the evenly matched fights but the fact that the most effective strategy is not more skill but more numbers, this is a WvW game design flaw.

If AoE cap was removed it would greatly favor team A, and make stacking a more risky strategy; I am a fan. Yet the meta would certainly shift and my opinion is that it would change from mega zerging to siege creeping and holding chokes.

They are trying to address the current meta zerg effectiveness with the reintroduction of the WvW orbs – they realize the problem, and are trying to fix it, misguided as it might be.

No jinks you had it right e first time. When the gw2 GvG site converted the matches were “friendly”. I sent out reinvites for official but the site had not set our PST time preference… All of our matches this week are showing the wrong times. And there isn’t a way to cancel an accepted match right now.

Layout is cool in general but I prefered old ranking. We all knew which guild is playing 20vs20 and it didn’t really matter if someone who’s playing 5vs5 or 15vs15 only is somewhere high(even tho there wasn’t any guild).
Now I really have no idea about it, month rankings would be nice as additional option. However I’m not the guy who got a vote here so gj

Also agree to an extent, until we reach a scale where there are dozens of matches happening each week in each category, it feels a little desolate to separate and makes it difficult to compare guilds side by side that might participate in several gvg types.

Thanks for all your hard work on this, I appreciate the thought and effort you put into this site. As a guild leader for GF I use this site on a daily basis. I do have a couple issues/suggestions I would like you to consider.

1. All the matches set previous to the upgrade were set by default to “friendly match”. I believe the default should be “official match”.

2. Either in the upgrade or sometime today the challenges time zone conversion has gone wonky and it is very difficult to figure out what times these matches are for currently. Which leads me to the following.

3. Need an easy way to cancel an upcoming match so I can resend and reconfirm.

4. There is still a problem using PST, since most people equate PST with PDT. We recently had a match vs Omen who preferred GMT, when the site converted to PST it was one hour off what is typically considered PST causing a one hour delay in the match due to the confusion since PST and PDT is a one hour difference this time of year.

There are several suggestions for a solution here, first suggestion is to simply add daylight times to the site because if you live in a daylight time zone trying use fixed -GMT time can cause confusion.

Typically when I confirm with other guilds leaders I usually confirm the time in “Server” time and everyone else is responsible for the conversion. Perhaps you can allow a “server” time preference on the site or server time default rather than GMT default.

5. I understand the need to only see active guilds and monthly places, but this seems to me like a division between a tournament placement & and a career ELO/GLICKO rating. Myself and other guild leaders I have spoken with felt there was great merit to seeing leaderboards as actual career rating. We see monthly places more as tournament prizes but not indicative of overall rating/ranking. Is there a way to accomplish the need for both?

I will say this however, skilled roamers are our own worst enemies in these situations. When a group of 5-10 people push out against half their numbers and get wiped over and over again, the natural evolution will be something like the attached image.

this is a proud group of 10+ bp “defending” their keep from 3-6 roamers with 2 cannons 2 arrow carts and 1 ballista over the course of an hour.

I want to call them cowards, I want to call them kitten tower huggers. Yet, after many failed attempts at leaving the tower and pretty much any person who stepped foot over the edge of that bridge died, siege or no.

Perhaps, they are simply very very wise players for using this play style

As the guild leader of Good Fights I am glad you brought this to my attention, we do not chase people halfway across the map. I will speak with the offending members and find out why the kitten they did not kill you sooner (1/6th of the map is considered the maximim chasing distance for any GF member) will consider a gkick if they didn’t have a good enough reason.

I know for a fact that Rollindat was trying to communicate with whoever was setting up the match on your side from 8:45 to 9:15 EST we waited on DBBL behind windmills for 15 min after the scheduled time but no one showed up. This thread finally got lit up! Sadly from my perspective it was over a non event.

While I was there there were just attempts at ganking from both sides and both sides for the most part just stared at each other across an invouln area.

I would much rather discuss an actual battle, and to that end if any rustled jimmies need soothing I would be happy to setup an XvX and people can talk kitten over something that actually happened (infinitely more interesting).

We really have to change our tactics depending on the classes we have available at the time. That wipe at the start of the video was us acting like we had 3 more guardians than we actually did, the rest of the video we were playing much more to our class strengths.

Even when I fought you with my engineer weeks ago, I knew there was no point doing it, that if you were to lose the fight, nothing I could do would stop you from disengaging. At least now there is a range limit to sword #2.

When I am roaming I play a dirty thief, will cnd off ambients lead opposing zergs into each other, stealth reset use terrain and shadow step up to ledges, gain any advantage I can, but that is in situations where I am vastly outnumbered. And yes if I get close to dying I will disengage and find a reset and come back.

I do enjoy 1v1 duels however, where a reset is the same as a loss, no bloodlust allowed, and cnd off animals is not okay. I won’t back away from a 1v1 challenge and do respect talented engineers, look me up!

As for the shadow return on sword #2 I think it was a good fix and glad to see it. I was worried it would affect my 1vZerg, but it has only slight made it more challenging and hopefully will keep the fotms away from s/d

To the GF thief solo farming our zerg in our BL when we backed you guys up to your spawn point (about 4AM EST), great job… and what was that build? Definitely sword and a dagger offhand but I couldn’t figure out the combination and how you kept your HP up while doing that kind of damage. Anyway impressive.

Thank you! I run s/d -d/d when roaming. The big damage comes when I switch back to daggers. I have 30 in shadow arts so I heal up nicely in stealth. I am just trying to do my part in teaching zergs to stick together and not wander too far away by themselves

And, perhaps it has become fotm thief build but I have been running s/d for a very long time, and will continue to do so when some other fotm thief build rolls around. I am pleased that most of the fotm players do not have the patience to learn how to run s/d well.

Anyway I enjoyed those fights as well! it’s always fun fighting on a razors edge near such a large force.

You are just misunderstanding what he is saying about the solo roaming mindset. Most dislike the constraints of s/tPvP and enjoy the risk/reward roaming in WvW offers. Kardiamond is just stating a point of view from the roaming aspect of the game. Saying that EBay tends to huddle together for warmth and protection isn’t a complaint so much as an observation.

I dont think i misunderstood, but your response proves you are a gracious teammate. I just had to offer my rebuttal to your observation, and give you a chance to find some players “worth your time”. If that is sincerely what you are looking for. If this was simply forum posturing, I will excuse myself and leave you and Archer to it.

P.S. One really good small man guild to look out for is CoF, those guys will give you a fight no matter the odds.

I am curious how you judge “good” in wvw if not by how effective you are at killing people? I assume you want to identify him so you can kill him to invalidate him as being good. See the logical inconsistency if this is indeed your intent?

P.S. He is the human GF mesmer with fractal back piece. Fair warning though we have been known to use him as bait because of tunnel vision people get when they realize it is him, don’t let the forum rage he generates distract you from the GF group he usually roams with. We typically set up siege and call it Zerg bait, but for some reason just the sight of Cookies seems to have nearly as powerful of an effect.

Since in DPS-spec you’ll be doing mostly crit dmg, that +12% crit damage equals +12% to overall damage. And that is greater than +5% from strength runes.

Extra crit damage does not work that way. You must consider all sources of crit damage to work out the damage increase (of criticals).

For example, adding +12% crit damage to +85% crit damage results in an increase of ~5.1% critical hit damage, [ 12 / ( 85 + 150 ) ] x 100% = 5.1%.

Old thread, but I wanted to add as I recently have been researching this rune set. Nick is right on here. However he is only referring to the damage increase you will see at 85% with increase of 12 points. CRITICAL DMG only. This number will change and decrease the more crit dmg you have. Example:

12/(105+150)=~4.7%

You will loose 84 points in precision ~4% critical chance. But gain 45 points in power.

once rune of strength is fixed it will be slightly superior to dmg from ruby orbs assuming you have consistent might and you have high crit dmg >~80%, or are a low crit % power build.

The more ability you have to stack might the more powerful they will become due to duration increase. (overlapping stacks). Also consider that might increases condition damage as well, if your attacks do any sort of condition damage you will get a small increase of damage output on that front as well from the increased might stacks.

I see these runes having great effect on thief that stacks might in stealth, guardian power builds, and engi HGH builds. It is all moot until they fix it and we can all rest happy with our ruby orbs.

Eeeeeeeyyy! No we are still here and more focused on the matchup not forums. Yesterday we had a 5man going and were there for quite some time flipping camps, killing ebays and AR (not 1 by 1 lol) not too many skilled players, would have loved to run into a GF group(I usually only see them in enemy bls tho). If you see me I’m the female sylvari guardian in abyss Dark armor with pink quagg backpack, if you see me in-game and want to fight me just invite me, I’m always looking to improve(and 1v1s can fun, no poor sport here).

P.s what happen to the ECHO tag? I don’t see them anymore

Zerg is just a term used to say you were outnumbered, and completely relative. The most GF we have run together in the past week was maybe 13 usually we are under 10 and roaming in smaller numbers.

I was testing some build on my necro, got stomped by your thief, had to respec to my main build.

Sadly, I could never finish you guys out, both your sword thief would just run each time. Highest mobility class vs lowest mobility class, not much I can do, except make you run away. Tho Your human thief was a lot stronger then your Asura one.

We had some good fight, I was running under [LD] guild I think yesterday. I fought your guardian/mesmer with my Bolt Warrior friend, was pretty cool.

Sadly a monstrous Zerg came by from BP and Ebay and wasted everything with kitten lag.

Hey thanks for the compliments! It really is a very troll build, very difficult to kill/catch. I won’t run from an even matched fight, but taking on a larger group I’d rather stay alive to pick off the unsuspecting weaker players of the group.

Well, for one, “zerg” was in the title of the last thread when [CHAR] changed the title. The Mods notably already dislike the z-word to begin with. So that was likely not a plus for starters.

Yeah, that was kinda funny though, but that is one out of 4 or we at 5 this week so far, I check the forums several times a day and can’t keep up.

It doesn’t even seem like the threads have been extra offensive this week, just mods have been more grumpy than usual. Would a mod care to comment as to why threads are being closed left and right?

I would sincerely like to ask the question if you feel deleting posts closing threads and suspending accounts on the forums is the best solution. Seems to me that people will always continue to kitten talk. Just feels like a loosing battle… First post of this thread is challenge to have it closed, doesn’t seem like this is the result you are looking for.
