Any thoughts on Condi side of things? Chill dmg scaling, poison dmg overall (could it be stronger?) and on RS4, Dhuumfire being totally better in RS compared to DS, and Lingering Curse telling you to “only use scepter” to maximize bleeds?

Chill damage has been doubled.

Doesn’t say if it’s only base or also scaling that’s changed. Could be a Jay Wilson though.

I think Lingering Curse should be changed because it feels like a “use scepter or else” trait, not a “hey my scepter is better” trait. It wants to keep me out of Shroud, stick to one weapon, and all it gives me is average condi damage.

Scepter 3 should apply conditions somehow, poison per x bleed stacks maybe, increase condi duration on target, bite twice to go through aegis, I don’t know. It could bite several times which can crit so you get bleeds from Barbed Precision. Doesn’t make sense as a power skill though

Knaifhogg.5964

I don’t agree that there was a lack of chill uptime. For GS, sure but if you’re Condi you have Chilling Darkness, Staff 3 and 5, then you have shouts and wall, RS 4 and 5 combo. There’s runes and sigils if you want more. What bugged me the most is that Lingering Curse is a badly designed trait (even more noticable when Dhuumfire is actually a bit useful in RS).

this makes no sense. if you have to seek out other sources for chill in an elite spec that is supposed to be the master of it.. then i’d say it is lacking.

Well that’s just the GS being bad. Having more of a condition ties into sigils and runes, that’s how it is for all conditions. Many weapons are also either condi or power, so GS is in an unusual spot. The shouts do bring chill even if they were lackluster otherwise.

Lingering Curse and Dhuumfire, what?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Knaifhogg.5964

Knaifhogg.5964

I am mainly talking about PvE.

If you’re planning on playing as Condi Reaper (probably not using GS, so you might stick to Scepter/Dagger and Staff) you’re probably taking Curses as your second specialization and you’re left with the choice between Spite and Soul Reaping.

Spite gives you some insane vulnerability application and decent might generation, but it makes sense as Condi to get Soul Reaping for LF on staff and fear duration.

But doesn’t it feel like Lingering Curse (Scepter GM in Curses) is pitted against Dhuumfire?

It doesn’t really make sense to have both Dhuumfire and Lingering Curse, because Lingering Curse tells you to stay out of RS to maximize bleeding. Dhuumfire tells you to stick to RS1.

Would it be better to take Spite instead of Soul Reaping? Do you think Lingering Curse should be changed? If so, how?

Test this thing!

I can’t get to it, it doesn’t work!

Ok, cya at next beta!

This is how it feels, and it’s super frustrating.

That’s how it’s supposed to feel. I don’t get your rant. Beta is for testing all kinds of things. You’re perception of what the Beta should and shouldn’t be is not relevant. There are no ‘rules’ for game devs to make sure their beta release complies to some standard. If you don’t like it, don’t play it.

I am referring to their own feedback request, it’s not my pie in the sky dream of what they need of me. Of course betas should be guided by the devs, they are the ones that are organizing the players’ test areas. They don’t want me to make a thief and go to Queensdale for the duration of the beta.

I am saying that the broken event chains are affecting too many key parts of the beta. There should be more dev interaction because of it. Rubi replied to this thread which is great. It would be great to have some idea of which masteries are available in the map too, what’s the point of having people wasting limited mastery points?

Feedback that doesn’t apply anymore after they fix the events: Leveling masteries was slow, events not progressing, couldn’t play the adventures.

Feedback that could have been avoided by dev interaction: I wasted mastery points.

You are whining, it’s beta, report bugs etc

I am referring to the announcement post of the Beta Weekend where they ask us to give feedback on masteries, the map and adventures, all of which are affected by the bugged event chains.

I am very aware of how betas work. I am just frustrated that such a huge issue is in the beta when the feedback they are asking for is relying on the events working (because they give experience for masteries, unlock adventures and it’s an event driven map).

Thanks for the reply, Rubi. Something that would be helpful for the future beta would be knowledge of which Masteries are used in the section of the map we get to play (because getting Itzel Language and being able to buy ??? in different rarities doesn’t let me test much :p).

Basically the devs are asking us how “the shoes feel”, and we can’t even lace them because the shoelaces are too short. Then people say “oh you should tell them the shoelaces are too short”. Right. We are all aware of this problem. This should not have been a problem.

My point is that 90% of bug reports will be “this event chain isn’t working”, and these important bugs ruin the feedback they were asking for, such as: Feedback on event feel, Feedback on masteries, Feedback on adventures.

If we can’t play it we have to extrapolate from “if it worked properly”, “it would maybe overall feel like this”.

Knaifhogg.5964

It is hard to give feedback about Mastery leveling speed and the Verdant Brink area when every event chain has bugs that stop progress. These broken events also seem to bug out adventures. We can’t possibly give feedback based on broken experiences.

It is also hard to know what is included in this beta. Core masteries are in the game but we can’t progress them when leveling in Core areas. We can also level Masteries to a point where what we have unlocked can’t be used in a meaningful way.

This beta should have more dev interaction so we know which bugs they know about (and they should tell us so we also know about the bugs) and also they should tell us which Masteries can be used.

I am aware it’s the weekend, but releasing a kitten Beta expecting feedback based on it working properly gives you foggy results.

PvE Condi Reaper seems off

There’s plenty of chill from Staff #3, Chilling Darkness on Dagger #4 (instead of plague sending), RS4 and 5 combo, Sigil of Hydromancy, Chilled to the bone, Suffer. Easy 25 vuln there from Bitter Chill in the Spite line. Poison and Chill are so weak though, and you can get the effects of them without speccing Condi.

Does anyone else think that a Condi Reaper has a lot of weak conditions?

It feels like Dhuumfire and Lingering Curse are up against each other, but neither are good enough to build around. Both traits want you to stick to a specific skill/weapon.

Reaper brings a lot of chill and poison, both which seem weak. You can ditch Soul Reaping for Spite to get great vulnerability application.

I don’t think the beta has the right runes and sigils for condi play, but has anyone had great success with Condi Reaper?

I did a few Fractal runs (lvl 40 and 50) today with a condi team and it was really fun and enjoyable, it didn’t feel super slow and with the transfusion trait you could save party members from “if you’re downed you’re dead” situations. We didn’t have any guardians, mesmers or warriors but it went well. Tons of blind and chill, tons of heals, the might from Blood Is Power is just lovely. Cliffside fractal was super easy. Epidemic!

I think it was very deceitful to first say HoT needs the core game, then have sales for a few months, and then change it so you get the game essentially for free. So many people bought it because they were preparing for HoT. Now they got slapped in the face.

As a veteran player if I want to experience the Revenant class I would have to delete one of my level 80 chars, or buy a char slot. Not only do I have less to gain from the 50$ purchase, I also have to pay extra to get access to the whole thing.

Do you think it would be a nice idea to include the basic “timer” people use as a world map in the Guild Hall instead, giving extra rewards for your guild if you organize and do it as a group? Do you think it would be unneccessary traveling back and forth from the guild hall, or pointless because you can do it with strangers anyway?

I would like it if the need for external timers would go away, but it has to be convenient in-game and if not convenient enough, it has to be rewarding!

I like the Bone Pick look but the oil splurting is a bit.. unimpressive. It also is the outlier if this is a set (it lacks A MINION).

Will the Bone Pick effect be changed into something related to Necros or will there be a Tireless Mining Minion released? I mean, oil splurting… come on. An official response would be great, because no player would know this I assume (unless it’s been datamined).

Thread explosion! Thanks for all the (rapid) responses. There seems to be a fairly consistent feeling that yes, these fights can be more engaging without becoming as difficult as the jungle wurm.

I like some of the ideas being presented, feel free to keep the discussion going. It’s also helpful to hear not only what’s working but why it’s working for you.

On the topic of using siege weapons as a role mechanic in these fights, is that something we want to see more of? I often worry that siege weapons can be just as boring as standing in the safe corner pressing the same attack. Do you feel that they can also cause some contention between players?

Nah, Siege Weapons being key for Tequatl only brings bashing in chat, I like that they make the fight easier for the zerg though (skill 3 through 5), but the “OMG USE SKILL 2” spam in chat is not pleasant. Although, that’s partly because people don’t understand you need to defend the turrets. They blame turrets only.

Going back to my idea, I think teaching people to split up would be the first step, then introducing other things at Teq, and at Jormag I don’t know what you could implement, but fear spam and ignoring most enemies in the first phase isn’t that impressive..

The thing is if you make Shatterer to be a starter Dragon, you will have to improve Claw of Jormag somehow to make it more impressive than Tequatl.

The Shatterer.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Knaifhogg.5964

Do you guys think that there’s a middle ground between ultra hard and easy?

For example, I think we could clean up some of the issues with the Shatterer and just make it a more engaging experience. So rather than spending the entire fight hiding under his right paw he could, say, turn his head and attack that area? :] It doesn’t have to be hard, just a little more involved.

We tried to put in a few changes here and there when we added the new world boss timers. Reactions varied.

Just off the top of my head, a bit more than just making us move a bit, but not Teq level of organization.

Change the landscape a bit, add three lanes of access to the dragon (maybe through crystals blocking off) , force people to split up. Reduce his HP a lot. Make him fly up and drop his healing crystals on two of the lanes (like a quick ascent and boom, crystals, then he lands again), force people to destroy them to be able to kill the dragon (or he outheals you). The one lane that doesn’t get a crystal has to dodge his breath attack to get to attack him freely.

Sounds kinda cool, can’t be too hard though, it’s an introduction to dragon slaying. It also requires a bit of work, but I think a dragon should be cool!
