Well, if name changing is out of reach (for reasons I think are silly, anyway), are they able to transfer my old box to a new account, or at least free up my email I use for everything? I don’t want to have to go make a new email and everything, but I don’t want to deal with the name I’m stuck with. >.>

As the title says, why is changing your display name (in my case, Kunshu.5281) not allowed? They say they have all kinds of reasons, but no one has ever told me.

I just really hate Kunshu. : / Back when I first started this game, I was “dating” a girl who was second-generation Japanese, and she kind of bullied me into making a name to match hers. However, it turns out that she was just kind of pitying me, and eventually told me that she never really liked me, and all that. (I grew up totally alone, rejected by even my own family, so some people feel bad for me, like her)

Anyway, it’s just not a pleasant memory, and I don’t want that name anymore. I want to buy HoT and get into it, but I’d have to make a new email and account and all that kind of stuff… but I’d really rather just keep my old account from launch week. But when I asked ANet they said no for some vague reasons they won’t explain. :P

Does anyone know what the reasoning is behind it? Why are they so strict about it?

Well, I always just puged raids in WoW and whatnot, so I’m used to dealing with people who think they’re all that. :P Plus, I’m usually pretty good at making groups. Always kind of been a solo player; most guilds can’t stand me for very long. xD

What do you mean underwhelming? As long as it’s not just tank and spank, I should have fun with it.

As for the name, I mean my whole account name, Kunshu. I made it because I was dating a Japanese girl who kind of bullied me into it, and I never really liked the name. Is there any kind of benefit from having a really old GW2 account from launch week? If not, I might just make a new account when I buy HoT.

As long as they keep the Fractals somewhat challenging, I’ll be fine though. I just like them for their unique mechanics and unforgiving style. :P They’re fun!

Eh, I didn’t do PvP all that much, though I’d like to get into WvW now that I have a better computer than when I last played GW2. xD

So! I looked at videos of the raids, and they look interesting, and ANet says they want to focus more on Fractals (which I loved when I quit — they were still new-ish), so I’m thinking HoT may be able to fill that MMO void I’ve had since WoW went and killed itself with WoD.

Anyway, my questions:

First, are the raids fun? They look interesting, but are they actually challenging at all? Do they have a tank, healer and DPS, or is it just more “dodge things and win” like the game was when I left? — ‘cause that wasn’t all that fun.

Second, would it be worth it to use my account from launch GW2, like, are there any benefits or anything? I bought the game way back when, but I always hated the name I made (made it for all the wrong reasons), so is there any reason to hold onto my old account, or would making a new one be the better option? How long does it take to get to 80 now?

Well, for the things you said you like, I would go with a Guardian.

A Guardian has massively defensive skills; almost every skill they have will have some sort of defensive mechanic in it – blinds, projectile blocks, reflection, blocking, protection, regen., so on. There are builds out there to make a massively overpowered killing machine that no tank should ever be able to do. My only problem with a Guardian is that their pace is very slow. It gets boring for me, but hey, everyone has their own opinion. You have superior control of the battlefield, and you will never, ever die.

A Thief, on the other hand, is a bit tricky.

You can make very tanky builds on a Thief, but they’re much harder to pull off – mostly because they rely on evading, rather than just eating damage. Thieves are possibly the highest burst damage dealers in the game, and so are loved in sPvP and WvW for picking off single targets. A lot of the rotations they use in PvP will not work in PvE though, because the monsters are smarter than people in these cases. If you want to kill things like nobodies business, but also have to really watch what you’re doing, Thief is for you.

Ultimately, I would say Guardian – they’re much easier to play, and they have a lot more defensive utility than a Thief does. However, if you’re good at dodge rolls and avoiding red circles and the like, then Thief would be great.

Sorry I can’t pick and choose, it’s just not in my nature. xD I’ve rolled thousands of alts.

So, I’ve been playing for… however long ago September was, and I’ve only got one 80 – a Warrior. Now, I’ve been trying to decide what my second 80 will be, but I just can’t seem to stick with a profession. I’ve played every profession to at least ten, some to around 60.

So Far

Engineer – 68, Thief – 53, Guardian – 65, Mesmer – 35, Ranger – 70, Necro – 12, Ele – 21 and Warrior – 80

(I don’t have all these characters, but those are the levels roughly that I’ve gotten each profession to)

Now, could anyone recommend a profession to me? I’ll write a blurb about what I like in a profession (resisting the urge to call it a class, so hard).

What do I like in a class? (I caved)

Well, I like to be quick, nimble and moving all over the place. I like a class that doesn’t stand in one spot and cast the same thing over and over, I want to be literally facerolling on my keyboard to keep up with all the buttons I need to press. A class that’s not rotational, but rather dynamic and reactive – responding to what happens in the world, rather than going through 1>2>3>2>3>1>2>3>… so on. I like to be able to place effects all over the place, and controlling other people through pulls, pushes and other tricks. Also, the ability to control projectiles would be nice, so reflections and blocks, that sort of thing. I don’t really care much about defensive abilities, I just want to be able to dish out a lot of damage, in a little amount of time. I can defend myself through my control abilities I talked about.

I do love melee, but I suppose I could live without it. I like fast attacks, even if they’re not doing a lot of damage. So that it feels like I’m really fighting, rather than watching some carefully choreographed dance.

Anyway, thanks for reading my rant, and thank you for any suggestions!

If you do choose to suggest a class, please rant about why that class is amazing, I’m trying to convince myself to play a class! xD

I would prefer a Mace considering the game lacks Mace-users, and Mace users are usually associated with Healers in jRPGs. Considering the Elementalist is a healer, it would be a nice idea to add in a Mace for them.

“The Elementalist draws its powers of destruction from an affinity with the elements.”

Doesn’t sound like a healer to me. :P

As to the bow, I don’t think that really sounds like a weapon the Elementalist needs. We already conjure a lot of the weapons we can’t use – axes, bows, greatswords, hammers and shields. We can’t conjure a standard sword, so it’s a weapon we should be able to use.

And who says the staff and scepter aren’t viable? I love them, I just like the speed of daggers / melee. :P

Hello! Now, I’ve been playing MMO’s for many, many years, and I’ve always wanted to be sort of a battle-mage archetype kind of character. Some games have gotten close, but none have really done this kind of thing yet. I don’t see why it couldn’t work, I think it’d be fun!

Anyway, I think the Elementalist should have the ability to use a sword in the main-hand. I’ve thought of a few sample skills that would work, and stay true to the individual attunements.

Fire + Sword

1 – Fiery Strikes > Flaming Slash > Fiery Burst: A simple auto-attack sequence chain for the sword while in Fire Attunement. The first attack is two swings, followed by a stronger swing, followed by a small AoE stab (maybe 80 radius), that applies burning for 2s.

2 – Fiery Spin: Spin around quickly, throwing several small fireballs – Whirl Finisher (applies burning, 2s per fireball)

3 – Shooting Star: Leap into the air and and land on your opponent in a fiery explosion – Blast Finisher (600 range) (applies burning, 5s, 180 radius)

Water + Sword

1 – Tidal Strike > Tidal Slash > Tidal Wave: First two strikes deal damage, third strike throw water around the target, applying 3s of regen to nearby allies (120 radius or so).

2 – Ice Lance: Lunge at your foe with an icy spear, chilling them for 4s – Leap Finisher (Similar to how they changed Kick, it gives a small lunge)

3 – Riptide: Throw water around you, and create tidal ripples, knocking back foes and healing allies for a small amount per pulse. (3-4 pulses)

Air + Sword

1 – Zephyr’s Strike > Zephyr’s Slash > Zephyr’s Speed: This is a chain sequence for Air Attunement, the Elementalist wraps their sword in wind / lightning and slices twice, followed by a longer cast strike that gives evade (similar to Ranger GS 1).

2 – Thunderbolt: Throw your sword at your foe like a bolt of lightning (think Zeus), applying cripple for 4 seconds – Physical Projectile Finisher.

3 – Lightning Rod: Call down lightning through your sword, and explode in a flash of electricity – Blast Finisher. Applies weakness to yourself, 4s, and stuns nearby foes for 1s.

Earth + Sword

1 – Magnetic Blades: Slash at your enemy with magnetic force, applying cripple for 2s.

2 – Magnetism: Focus magnetic energy on your foe, and yank them to you. 2/3s cast time, and 900 range.

3 – Earth Grab: Thrust your sword into the ground, causing rocky hands to erupt outwards, holding your foes immobilized (3s), and applying bleeding.

Now I am by no means a game developer, so I realize these skills may have serious flaws, but they fit the idea of how I think a “Battlemage” or “Spellblade” would fight.

Thanks for reading.

[Page] Storybook Heroes, Kaineng

in Guilds

Posted by: Kunshu.5281

Kunshu.5281

Howdy! The guild Storybook Heroes [Page], is my response to a server that doesn’t really have many guilds that are focused on the players, rather than the game. I’ve been in several guilds throughout Isle of Janthir, Ehmry Bay and Kaineng (Where I now live), and I’ve noticed that many of the guilds don’t really take the time to talk to their members, or to really include people in content, outside of the normal group that does it. So many people treat this game like it’s a job, but it’s really just a place to have fun. So I’ve started this guild to give the community what I always wanted out of it: A nice place to relax, and to have fun in a close-knit community.

What can we offer you?

  • Several events a week in a variety of different categories, such as WvW, sPvP,
  • Dungeons and purely social events that anyone can participate in.
  • A guild that’s not treating the game like a job, but rather as a way to have fun.
  • A friendly, close-knit community that actually knows your name, and talks to you.

Now what kinds of events can anyone participate in?

The leader of the event finds somewhere really, really high, and jumps off the edge. The attendees then jump off after him, and try to land as close as possible. Two attempts.

The leader of the event will hide guild banners or other placable objects around Tyria, and create riddles to give clues about the locations. The attendees will search for the banners, and return to the leader with both the location of the banners, and the appropriate buffs.

Our focus

As a guild, we don’t strive to achieve #1 status in any part of the game, we just play the game to have fun, whether we win or lose. We don’t single out any one aspect of the game and exclude others from guild activities – we play everything this game has to offer. From WvW, PvP, SAB, Dungeons, to just simply exploring – we do it all.

How to join

To join the guild, just whisper Kunshu.5281 when I’m online, or any other guild member. If you can’t find anyone online, send an in-game mail message to the account name above, and I’ll get back to you as soon as I can. Anyone is welcome, be you new, experienced, young or old – you’re welcome here.

Thanks for reading, and hope to see you soon!

Guild Creation

Kunshu.5281

Alrighty, so I’ve been playing Guild Wars 2 since… early September, and MMO’s in general for about 12 years now. As you could imagine, I’ve been in several dozen guilds, and I’ve had some good experiences in them, and some bad. Now I’ve taken to making my own guild in GW2, but I’m having a bit of trouble.

In GW2, I’ve noticed that a lot of the guilds are just enormous, and very impersonal. You feel more like a number than a person, and no one really knows your name. I’ve also joined smaller guilds, but they ignore you just the same. So I was hoping to create a guild that stands for all the things I think a guild should stand for, and to treat the game like a game, not a job. Although, I’m having a bit of an issue.

Alrighty, so I created a guild last week, and it had a grand total of three members, up until today, when everyone quit. So I was wondering, how in the world do guilds start up? I’ve been making posts in map chat every now and then like I see a lot of guilds doing, and I even posted an ad on the Guilds section of this website! Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Help me Choose - Mes or Necro

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Kunshu.5281

Kunshu.5281

Howdy! Well, as the post states, I’m trying to decide between a Mesmer and a Necromancer. I’ve never really played the Scholar professions much – highest was a 40ish Mesmer.

Now, I like the classes that are fast-paced, dynamic and always moving – with tons of player interaction. A class that you really have to pay attention to to do well. So far I’ve got an 80 Warrior, a 68 Engineer, and a 57 Thief. While all these classes are fun, they do get a bit stale after a while. Since I’ve never had a caster, I thought I’d go that route, see what it’s like. I chose either Mesmer or Necro because I love melee, and I was thrilled to see that both these classes have some melee ability.

So I ask you guys: which Scholar profession do you think would best suit someone who hates standing still, someone who wants to always be switching weapons or skillsets, and just changing all over the place? I hear Elementalists are the kings of dynamism, is this true? I might be able to live without melee ability, but are they a fast-paced caster class?

Thanks.

You can dual-wield anything that is allowable by your profession. The only difference for dual-wielding is that your offhand would have sound effects as well. Kunshu.5281

Howdy! Now, I don’t know if this is true for many servers, but for all the ones I’ve been on, it has never failed to be true.

A good majority of the servers are just totally bereft of people.

I’ve played on Isle of Janthir, Kaineng, and Ehmry Bay. On all of these servers, I’ve noticed that the server is just totally empty outside of LA. I can’t find people to do events with, I can’t find people to play with, period. In WvW, the server has close to 0 presence, there’s just no one there.

My suggestion, is to condense the servers, or at least in WvW. Relocate people from low pop servers to one server, and then remove the old ones. This saves A-Net a lot of money from running the empty servers, and it gives people others to play with. For WvW, you could track the number of people actually participating, and combine the low population servers together. Something like dividing the servers into areas. Krytan area, Maguuma area, Ascalon area, Canthan area, Elonan area, so on. So that you can have several servers all under the same banner, making it more worthwhile to go into WvW, since you’d actually have people to play with.

I don’t know if this would even work, maybe you could add some other incentive to participate in WvW / outside of LA, but there’s my two cents.

It even goes as far as the music, I’ve yet to hear a soundtrack that’s unique, or with a flair unique to the area. PvP is all the same game mode, just a different map. It’s just, boring. :/ I love GW2, don’t get me wrong, I’m just taking a break already, after six months.

Kunshu.5281

I picked up Guild Wars 2 in the first week of September, thinking that this would be some wonderful new game to play. At the time, I was playing World of Warcraft, which I had been playing for eight years or so. I thought this game might be the one to replace WoW, since I was a bit burned out on it. Well, not really.

The first couple weeks of GW2 were great, and I was having a blast playing with all the new features and mechanics that didn’t exist in WoW. Things like the combo system, the personal story, and all that – I thought it was great. Now though, having reached the level cap and having spent around 1500 hours playing this game, I’m already burnt out – and it’s only been a few months.

Add side-content

Simply put, there just isn’t enough to do. You do one of three things. You PvE, you WvW, or you PvP. There really isn’t much more than that. The Super Adventure Box was a step in the right direction, but this game is really just lacking in peripheral content. You have to just keep moving forward, or do nothing at all. Adding things to spend time with would help. I know it’s going to cause a lot of upset, but I’m going to pull ideas from several other games here.

  • Music, the ability to write and perform a song, ere Mabinogi.
  • Archaeology, the ability to learn about the history of the world through archaeological digs, ere World of Warcraft.
  • Artifacts, something to hunt for that will give you rewards in the end, ere Rift.

Just adding something to do aside from the “new” trinity (WvW, PvE, sPvP) would help keep people interested for a much longer amount of time.

Variation

The biggest problem in GW2, if you ask me, is the lack of variation. When you pigeon-hole people into five skills, you create a monotony. All the weapons do the same things, just with a different flavor. (Not 100% the same, but vastly similar) No matter what, you know what a Longbow Ranger is going to do when they come running at you. You know what a Great Sword Warrior is going to do. People are predictable, when you have only five skills available to you. I suggest adding different weapon attacks you can pick and choose from, adding more variety. So that I don’t know that a Great Sword Warrior is going to use 5>2>3>4>1>2>1>2>…, make it a bit more unique. Just adding in more than five skills would be worthwhile.

Now, aside from skills, the game itself is predictable. Enemies always do the same thing, dungeons are all the same, bosses are just re-hashed standard monsters with an extra knockdown. Spice it up a bit, I mean, come on. Take a bit of pride in your work. Six months after release, and the game is riddled with bugs, angry customers, and so many other negative things – yet you just insist on releasing something stupid (November) with every month. Sit down and get your priorities straight before making a game.

I really don’t think this game will last very long at the rate it’s going, I know a lot of people who are getting fed up with it. World of Warcraft has been around for as long as it has for a reason. Guild Wars 1 was around for as long as it was for a reason. Don’t embrace the “casual” era that is today. Make a good game, not a pile of steaming kitten. Who cares if the little kids aren’t able to beat it, you’d have people coming back for more.

As to the sixth hidden room, I’ve made what I think is either a discovery, or a bug.

Back in Zelda, you could hit the walls to see which ones you could break. Now, when you swing at a breakable wall – hidden or crumbled – it will progress your weapon chain. I’ve used this to discover many, many hidden things. Now! The big, broken log, right at the beginning, has an area that does this. Now, the hole on top of the log would be right where you want to bomb, but it’s on the top not the bottom! If we could somehow flip the log over, or roll it, then we could get to where I think is a hidden room. Any ideas?

First off, I looked through the skills you proposed, and they’re just way too complex for a game like Guild Wars 2. You have to remember that we’re catering to a player who can’t tell up from down, or brown from blue. You have to keep the skillset simple enough to understand when you’re of that mentality, but with the ability to be amazing tools in the right hands. Your skills are far above the mentality that is the casual player.

Second, I did have other ideas, I was just thinking about them a bit more, haha. Although, these are just ideas, and they’re certainly not anywhere near actually being in the game. I’ve edited my original post to have some of those new skills, and I clarified a few things. :P

A lot of your skills add things like Weakness, or Cripple, which the auto-attack for a sword already does. If you’re using two swords, then you can have nearly limitless Cripple and Weakness on the target, which really defeats any kind of resistance they might be able to muster.

Well, what is a sword but a big dagger? :P You don’t have to have super unique skills, it’s just a heavier counterpart to the dagger. The skills I came up with are focused more on fighting toe-to-toe, rather than hiding in stealth. Dagger is more of a stealth-based weapon, with heavy damage from it. Sword is more of a mobility weapon, with heavy damage from just normal fighting.

I realize that the Sword + Pistol skill might be a bit OP, but that’s why it costs 6 initiative. You could only use it twice before running out of intitiative, which takes a good while to recharge. The Engineer skill knocks back further, and is available every 15 seconds or so. :P Engineers have several knockbacks, actually.

A shameless bump, but really, no comments or concerns or angry sentiments? Shocking, for this forum. xD

Howdy! Now, when I first saw the Thief, I imagined I’d be able to make a swashbuckler kind of guy, and it’s pretty darn close! I just think it’d be even better if Thieves could use two swords though. That would be the piece de resistance. :P

Anywhoo, I’ve come up with some sample skills that you could use with an offhand sword.

Dual sword: Helmsplitter – Vault over your foe in an evasive somersault, and strike down on the enemy’s head before landing behind them. Leap finisher.(Applies vuln.) (5 ini.) (1/4s evade)

Pistol + Sword: Infiltrator’s Shot – Shadowstep to your foe, and blast them with your pistol, sending them flying. (300 knockback or so) (6 ini.) This is not a launch, it is a push / knockback, like Ranger LB 4, or Engineer FT 3.

Dagger + Sword: Evasive Maneuvers – Stab your foe with your dagger, and leap backwards. Becomes Infiltrator’s Leap, enabling you to jump back into the fight with a shadowstep sort of thing. Leap Finisher. (3 ini. + 2 ini.)

Sword 4: Arcing Blade – Throw your sword at your foe for heavy damage (similar to Dancing Dagger, but only one target, with higher damage). Physical Projectile finisher.(4 ini.) (Applies bleeding)

Sword 5: Disarm – Strike the target’s wrists, and cause them to fumble their weapons. Applies a 2s daze, followed by 5s of Weakness. (5 ini.)

I think it’d be cool to have dual swords on a Thief, it’d make me happy, haha. xD Anywhoo, let me know what you think, and upvote it a lot if it’s something that should be looked at!

Howdy! So I’m working on putting together a set of Medium armor that matches the Feathers of Dwayna, that I’ve added a picture of at the bottom (The picture is actually Wings of Dwayna, but they look very similar, Feathers just has shorter wings). Something that looks kind of feathery and angelic looking.

So far! I will be wearing the Anonymity Hood, and the Guild Medium Armor. What else would work for the set I’m trying to make? Thanks.
