If you go on LFG now, every posting for Lvl 40 fractal farm will be 1 chrono, 1 PS war, and 3 DPS tempest. If you are any other class, it’s insta kick.
This is not okay, I am a PS warrior main and I find this already reaching a toxic level. All DPS build should be viable. PS War and Chrono I get it, they are playing mostly support role, but 3 Tempest no exception is not alright.
I found this daily achievement often mess up comps in ranked games by spiking class picking into that 4 classes.
Another thing is I often find confined into picking class I don’t play often or not good at because of this achievement.
I propose replacing them with simple daily wins (2 wins to get the achievement).
Not everyone has all 9 classes and equally good at all of them.
There is so much bullying of thief on ranked right now across all tiers I am surprised people still play thief.
I hop on my warrior, I purposely do bad, no one bats an eye.
I hop on my thief, the moment I didn’t do some wannabe commander told me to do, I get bullied from start to finish. Calling me out ingame then PM after. None of them give me any pointer on how to improve, just trash talks until I have to block them.
Some time I feel the attacks are taking way to personal it may just cross the line of cyberbullying and verbal abuse.
Not sure if even reporting them does anything, heck they’ll report me for being bad under the guise of match manipulation
Thief is hard enough to play as it is, I’m a thief main since launch and it’s still the class I’m worst at, so now I totally feel that everything is stacked against me, the game mechanic itself and the people play this game.
The only difference is that you don’t need vision crystals anymore, so no more bloodstone dust/empyreal fragments/dragonite ore/obsidian shards. That’s it.
Lmao, like those cost anything…
When I first saw the option of buying Ascended armor via grandmaster mark, I was pretty excited thinking I would have an alternative way of obtaining ascended gear other than crafting.
When I finally looked at the grandmaster mark recipes, I was very disappointed and confused.
Each mark requires 4 daily crafting components, and each cost more than the non discounted versions on the TP, the cheapest armor piece requires would require 12 daily components compare to 9 required by normal crafting. So just that, it would cost more gold to craft 3 marks than crafting the armor piece directly. On top of that I have to pay in ascended shards of glory or fractal pages plus gold to purchase the piece.
So my question is, what’s the point?
I kinda left GW2 back when HoT was first announced during PAX. I was a thief main, play either D/P or S/D. I do a bit of PVP and Dungeon runs every day to build up gold and legendary mats (Other than that, there’s really nothing for me to work towards).
I got bored, quit, then picked up some other games, and so on. Now that I want to come back to GW2 again, not sure what should I expect or if I can even pick up at where I left off.
I haven’t purchased HoT yet, want to just warm up with the vanilla game. How different is the game now? particular the pvp meta. When I left, it was mostly Ham/bow warrior, meditation guardians, D/D ele etc. Has thief changed much? how balanced is the new elite specialization compared to the base game builds?
Why don’t you just add your comment to one of the other 500 existing turret threads? Your addition isn’t so important that it dictates another thread. We get people don’t like turrets, but we don’t need everyone’s individual thoughts, that all tend to be the exact “they shouldn’t even exist” notion, on separate note cards.
because 500 complaints are not enough?
If devs don’t nerf them, why not buff them into the meta in ranked and unranked, so I’ll have some incentive to “L2P” against “Unviable for ranked but totally easy button for nubs” build that should not exist.
And to those people say “stay ranged and use condi and L2P”, I am a sword dagger thief, the best I can do is short bow bounce them all day long until the match end. Why should I have to switch out a spec that is tested and true against all other builds in game to deal with one single spec.
Monday’s PvP is especially bad because of daily engineer win. Every node have a turret engi camped.
Get rid of them please
I’ll l2p fighting every other build in the game, I refuse to learn how to fight turret engies.
Sincerely
Seeing this makes me depressed a bit, but I don’t really notice any problem with my thief against rangers. I play Spvp every day for 3-5 matches and I don’t really have any hard time with it anymore, well no where near as hard as when I first came back after the April 2014 patch.
There are bad players and good players, a lot of variation can happen. For example I hate turret engis and 2 days I ago, I took out a turret engi at enemy home single handly under 20s. I normally don’t have trouble with power necros and yesterday I couldn’t kill him with a teammate.
TL’DR
Don’t judge a class by individual players, know your class’s strength and weakness use them accordingly. The best class in the game is really not that much better than the worst class in the game. There can be a world of difference between a god tier player and bad player.
Thanks for stating that. Wait was the turret engi good? Or upscaled? :o I don’t have trouble with power necros only terrormancers, just bring a shortbow if you know you’re going against a powermancer. How? Use it to bait DS off. Till he’s out of he’s shell, spike him. Try not to step on marks, if he baits you by standing on marks cluster bomb him out of them or use choking gas. Avoid life blast at all cost either by Los or any evade frame #3 shortbow preferably for more control.
They were all in spvp, I don’t do WvW. The point is, it’s not the class or the build. It’s just me and the player behind the keyboard. Two player playing dps meditation guadian, I destroy one of them but they others destroys me. Only difference is how we play. Even if a class hard counter you, doesn’t mean beating it is impossible.

We did carry him throughout the entire run, the thing is by the time we got to the final part, everyone was angry at him. We tried to take down the p2 final boss in one cycle so everyone used their dps cooldown (Ice bow, signet of rage, etc.) only to findout that this supbar player failed to take down the acolyte fully. When will tell him to just leave it till all 4 respawn, he went a head and killed it anyway, so we had to wait for the first 3 to spawn and the last one.
Well here’s the situation?
Yesterday, I was in a Cof P2 run that is advertised as “lvl 80 experienced zerker fast”
And one guy, obviously new, not stacking with the rest of the group, calling for ress when obviously the WP is available. How did he die in the first place is anyone’s guess. I had to spam a wall of gallery of rage waypoint in chat to get his attention.
Finally, when we are at the last part of the dungeon, where everyone is standing next to a flame acolyte and when we say kill, he didn’t kill his target and rush to the center because he see everyone else doing it (Even his dps is bad), and end up dying to the red rings. Then I voted for a kick and he got kicked instantly, no hesitation what’s so ever.
The point is, I can stand someone who doesn’t know anything and acting like he’s experienced. I don’t mind someone telling me he’s new and I’ll gladly explain things to him, it still saves more time then what I just described above.
When I first started out gw2, I was in the same shoe. I get kicked, I learn from it; before heading to dungeons, I look up speed run videos. When you started doing the same paths everyday for the next 6 months, every seconds counts.
Yes the engi is forced to stay put if he wants to be effective at what he’s built for. That’s why I am saying it is better for the turrets to despawn and trigger a moderate cooldown when the engi moves out of leash range.
If he decided to move and set up shops somewhere else, he should be penalized with moderate amount of cooldown for his utilities. And if he choose to jump into a fight without his utility skills off cooldown, that’s his problem.
I would love to start every fight with basilisk venom ready, but that’s not gonna happen. We all have to compromise a bit. If an engi decides not to guard a point anymore and decide to switch to a different cap point or dies, the turrets despawn and have to wait for them to come off cooldown. The cooldown can be adjusted so that it won’t be too punishing, but just enough to limited the deploybility of the turrets
Some idea to tune down turrets
Let’s go over some premises first. Turret engi are used both by new player and vetern player alike and it is very common in unranked matches. Typical playstyle of turret engi is to hold down and camp a cap point (Often home or mid)
- as Mbh and I suggest, make turrets unavailable when engi moves out of range, either by despawning, or inactivate them. This would encourge them to play as the build is intended and discourage them from zerging or roaming.
- tune down the targeting system of the turret, implement an internal cool down for switching and reacquiring target. So player can counter turrets without destroying them by breaking LOS or going into stealth.
- add diminishing return to the CC turrets like net and thumper (You see this system in wow)
I’m a S/D thief running inertia. Everytime I see a turret engi camping a point, my mind is like “nope, nope, nope, nope, nope”
It’s not like turret engi is as dangerous to me as a dps meditation guardian, my problem is that they are too annoying and taking a long time to kill in a 1v1 fight. The fight often drags out where I would be better off doing something else for my team.
Is there any way to swap these guys out quickly, or should I just leave it?
I get it, it’s a easy and very effective playstyle and lots of people are complaining about it. Why not just tuning it down a bit, make the turrets with less hp or reduce the fire rate by a bit, and for god sake, make them despawn when engi moves out of range. 3 turrets left behind at a cap point alone can put enough pressure on my thief to deter me from ninja caping the point.
What’s the point of reporting someone that kicked you from a party? What category conduct breach does kicking a bad player falls into?
I am actually very interested in knowing how Teef came to be, while I am at it, can some one explain to me what “kitten” means?
For the last couple days, I started paying more attention to the map chat in sPVP lobby. Every now and then, I see something like “Teef OP”, or “How to deal with teefs?”
I asked around what they mean be teef, and it apparently means Thief.
GW2 has a lot of terminologies I’ve never heard of in other MMORPG like Bunkers instead of tank, kittens (I still don’t understand what it means beside the literal juvenile cat), and now Teef.
Where all these words came from?
I’m a little conflicted about picking the final log in reward. I am currently working towards my first legendary and I want to spent as little gold buying material as possible so that I have enough gold left over for precursor.
I have horrible luck with RNG and last night I’ve blown 15 Obi shards and only got 1 clover. So i’m thinking of getting the 7 clover and 8 obi shards reward from the final chests over 20 clovers. However, I also intend to use clover to stock up T6 fine crafting mats, and 20 clovers is equivalent to 60 total random assorted T6 Mats. I also pvp a lot and get clovers every now and then from reward tracks.
So I really don’t know which one to pick, NOTE: I really really hate RNG
you can tab out, do some other stuff, when the match is ready, your GW2 icon will pop orange. At least that’s for me on Win7
I think for TDM type of game mode, it’s very important to note that getting kills is the key objective. With that in mind, points should be awarded for each target downed, and additional point for stomping, or remove the down/stomp/rally feature all together, if you health drops to zero, you just die and respawn.
Also, spawn should not be fixed in TDM, as that leads to zerging and spawn camping, reason why you see 500-0 courtyard matches.
There should be multiple spawn points on the map and multiple lanes, the spawn should not be random and should taken into account of your teammates and enemy position.
Tonight I’ve just lost 9 games in a row, did not even win once. First 6 games solo queue, last 3 queue with a buddy who took pit in my losing streak.
I started playing at around 19:30 Eastern Time, Battle of Khylo (300+ score difference, all 3 caps), then two rounds of Temple of storms (all 250+ score difference). It is like this for 9 games until now, which is 0:15 Eastern Time.
I’ve run into a guild premade team at around 23:40 in Forest of Niflhel, we only score 130 points the entire match.
The best game I’ve had out of 9 games I’ve lost tonight is 50 scores apart, that’s the one I queued with the buddy I found.
I don’t have detail on every matches I’ve played tonight, it would mostly be anecdotes.
I play on Sanctum of Rall, NA, account Kuzuryu.7359 on my thief “Vukun”
EDIT: all unranked matches
(edited by Kuzuryu.7359)
Do you have it now? Sometimes I don’t get achievement or skin unlocks until 5-10 minutes after it happens. I’m guessing it’s just lag, because they always unlock eventually.
Nope still don’t have it, I think I’m just gonna run some dungeon see if it can top it off. Maybe the 20 or so gold I picked up from TP didn’t get registered
So I finally saved up enough 200g, but when I picked up my gold from TP, I didn’t get the achievement update.
I wouldn’t mind the idea of rifle for thieves. To fit the idea and play style of a thief (In and out easily, stealth, high burst and mobility), thief should only be able to use light weapons like dagger and sword, even sword is a bit heavy judging by the wind up time and recover after each swing. So axe and mace are out of the question.
What thief lacks at the moment is another 2 handed weapons, and the only weapon that would fit thief’s play style would be a rifle (Let’s face it, have you ever heard of rogue, thief, assassin with staff?)
Though I really would like thief to wield sword on off hand, it would add a lot of depth to the class than a 2-handed weapon because of dual skills
All condis are cleared LIFO
And just to clarify for all the noobs like myself who don’t know acronyms, that means, “Last in, first out.”
Now that we are on the topic, what about boon strip, is it stripped on LIFO basis as well?
If you are used to Warrior then that makes sense. Thieves cannot be played like a warrior: they will die fast. And this is because thieves just cannot take damage. You need to learn to survive by avoiding damage, so learn to use your blinds, evades, and dodges because you will fail if you don’t.
We can give you tips if you explain what you were dying to. Otherwise, you just need to practice.
Well i died throughout the dungeon but i guess they had enough when i couldt handle the mobs that spawns under the shield, where you need to stand in each one, P1 ofc right before the last boss. Im using D/D cause well i think thats the coolest combo :P I mean i can survive in their as a zerk guardian somewhat cause of shields and blinds.
Simple, you just need to stay by the pillar. Use cloak and dagger, and use it again when you are out of stealth. The agro will go to your teammates.
Question, did you get kicked for dying a lot or did you get kicked for killing the Flame Acolyte in P2 without waiting for everyone to sync up.
I wonder which method is more efficient, use the hard earned obi shard in mystic toilet or spam glorious reward track for 2 clovers per completion and a piece of glorious armor.
I love spvp, and prefer it over PVE grind anyday.
After seeing the RNG of trying to use mystic toilet to get clovers, I’m honestly a little scared of doing it that way.
I am finally in that stage of the game where I got nothing better to do than to grind me a first legendary, incinerator in my case.
I have about 500k ish karma and 300ish badges, and not much gold (less than 100). I enjoy sPVP more than anything and now with the new reward track granting chests, obsidian shards, and clovers, will it be a viable way of working towards my first legendary?
Be honest when talking to potential recruits when giving information / asking questions.
Not too honest to scare them away, but make sure you’re talking from your personal opinion. Also Map chat might be a usefull tool, but when you use this make sure you make a nice message out of it. Not the same message everyone else got:
Bla Bla [BLA] recruiting we’ve got (Guild missions, ts, forum, events, awesome community, friendly players, newb friendly, etc etc)What might help your guild, as you’re small and “new”
Go to low level zones and try to find players new to Guild Wars. After recruitment you can guide these players and help them with their stuff, makes them loyal to you so that they aren’t as likely to hop to another guild. Also, recruiting for a small guild can be a really tough job, as players join and leave when they find the guild isn’t big enough, not active enough, not many players online at same time, etc etc.
Gotcha, thanks for the tip. Guess I will be stationed at Queensdale for a while now. I would assume human starting zone would be the most likely place to find players new to GW2
So I joined this relative new and small guild, currently only 10 members. Since I am the most active members of the guild currently, I am tasked with expanding the guild. Our goal is to reach 50 players and we aim to draw players that are relatively new to the game or undergone a long hiatus.
Since I never done this kind of work before, how should I go about advertising and recruit new members. Our guild is a casual guild that focus mostly on PVE content and guild missions, with some WvW on the side. Most veteran or high ranking members of our guild members have full time job or study full time in schools so no one will be on during the day on weekdays.
It’s about time I started to work on my map completion and my first legendaries, I thought exploring WvW map would just be like PVE maps, so I left WvW maps for last. Now that I’m in, I find it exceedingly daunting.
I’m playing on Sanctum of Rall and currently I have our home borderlands and Devona’s rest borderlands 100% completed, leaving me with the eternal battleground and Anvil’s Rock borderlands. Right now, Anvil’s Rock is dominating and they are occupying the entire eternal battleground and their homeworld.
Are there any ways around it? Can I guesting to Anvil rock or are there ways to sneaking into the the tower’s and castle solo? I don’t care for much about participating in WvW, I just want my gift of exploration and be on my way.
I am getting sick of getting hit in stealth by channel skills like longbow ranger and GS mesmer. Is this intended or a bug? it really defeats the purpose of stealth.
Can Anet please fix this? I am getting sick of getting hit while in stealth by power ranger and mesmers. Doesn’t this kinda defeat the purpose of stealth?
You can stomp with the Shortbow:
-press “stomp key”
-use istantly infiltrator’s arrow at max range.
-then you should return before the descending phase of the animation with steal or infiltrator signet.
It’s a bit hard to do in combat but in some situations it’s a good option.
Same thing can be said about shasowstep, but I generally prefer not to waste cooldown just to stomp someone.
Currently, I found just straight up dps the downed target to death is easier and safer than stomping, especially thieves and eles that can move when downed.
My build
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?fZAQNAoaVlsMpypdPx0J8PNhOhs9hAF8u60sd1D-TZBFwACODA12fYxhAoaZAAPAAA
Picked fleet shadow over mug, find it easier to pull off backstab when steal/infil sig is down
Now that I finally becoming comfortable with using D/P thief in sPVP, I ran into a new problem. I find it easy to down people, but very difficult to pull off a stomp safely. The only exception is when I’m 1v1 or have shadow refuge off CD.
My current play style is trailing behind the group and only jump in when the fight have already started and start picking everyone off one by one, that end up leaving the ground with a lot downed targets but very little room for safe stomp.
A lot of the time I had to stealth up and spam choking gas from distance to keep them downed.
So It’s Jan 7th, 2015 where I live. I finished the Dec Monthly, got the reward and laurels and stuff. When is the Jan Monthly going to start?
I’ve been away for a very long time, before I’ve left, I played Thief, Warrior, and Guardian extensively. Now that I’m back and got more things going on in my life, I decided to focus my attention on just one toon. After a quick browse through the thief forum, I couldn’t help but notice a lot of negative criticism about current state of Thief in PVP. It’s thief really that bad or just sub-par players complaining because they can’t play their class right? I understand a lot have changed during my hiatus and thief may in fact be nerfed in various aspects.
Before I left, I spent most of my time doing PVE and sPVP, I think i’ll be focusing more on WvW now since I never really tried it.
Note: As for why I decide to focus on thief is I found warrior play style mind numbing boring and easy, get’s dull quick. Guardian is very fun and got varieties, but I have more fun playing PVE with him than PVP.
Log in rewards are what give you the laurels now, though only on certain days.
Ah I see, guess that make things easier. Thanks.
I’ve been away for a very long time, I quit the game shortly after the introduction of fractals. Now that I came back again and start relearning the game, I couldn’t help but notice the changes made to the daily achievement system. What is the current requirement to get a laurel for completing dailies. I notice that every day there are 4 tasks for each category (PVE, PVP, WvW) for a total of 12. Additionally there is a daily completion achievement that give you 10 achievement point for completing any 3 tasks. The chests I get from completing individual task do not contain laurels. So what do I have to do to get my daily laurels?
I’m on crystal desert, I just tried this and it didn’t work. I don’t have to option to talk to the npc, only greeting
