First off, people fail to note: More does not equal better.
You can have 284947194 skins, and if 99% of them have no particle effect/glow along with a good design, then 99% of the 284947194 fail to meet the standard by which a lot of people hold skins as good.
We’re not merely asking for “more,” we’re merely asking for better looking skins.
I’d love a ghostly purple staff skin like these have:
Vision of the Mists (greatsword)
Reaver of the Mists (axe)
Wall of the Mists (shield)
Ilya (pistol)
Abyssal Scepter (scepter)
Spirit Links (focus)
The Anomaly (focus)
Whisperblade (sword)
Or a staff that has fire like Volcanus.
Instead, we are left with ugly staffs like Modniir if we want a glow. Or less glowing staffs that tend to be an after thought like the krytan staffs.

I hope we get a visit during this wonderful season from Frosty the Nornman.
1) This is Tyria, not Earth and it’s Wintersday, not Christmas. We don’t need a 1:1 between the game and real life when it comes to holidays. The Asuran toy maker is already too close for my tastes.
True! 100% agree! I do however, find holidays amusing in-game as well as in-life.
It would be nice to see some game holiday that is entirely seperate and unique. It’d make it all that more special.

Did you try the website gw2lfg.com?
Shouldn’t be forced to go to an outside source for gaming fun.
However, I see people in Lions Arch asking for dungeon runs anytime I’m there. I’ve yet to really dabble in dungeons too much to say whether it’s hard to find a group or not.
However, I do not like ascended gear. Seemed like they are tip toeing around the “we didn’t say there’d be no treadmill” arguement when a lot of players pretty much felt they had.
Before Lost Shores happened, I thought it was going to be Pirate themed with humans at the fore front. I pretty much stopped reading the lore though when I realized I’d lose out on necessary material gathering if I took time to read. I still go back to some old RPGs when I feel like a good story with no rushed feeling that modern mmorpgs give me.
I was thinking the same thing. (The Crossing was awesome)
Until I looked at the available staff skins and cringed at the awfulness when compared to say, swords? I’m just glad I’m not a caster cuz I would do all I could to avoid staves…dey ugly!
The Crossing, of course some people liked it, however a lot, such as myself, did not.
There are various staff skins like other weapons, however the staff skins I believe have a lackluster appearance compared to others.
I’d love for an option to swap scepter heads with staff heads. I’d totally get a Destroyer Staff if it had the head of the destroyer scepter.
Also, various weapons get cool effects and appearances such as
Foefire’s Essence (greatsword)
Jormag’s Breath (sword)
Firebringer (sword)
Eye of Rodgort (scepter)
Mjolnir (hammer)
Volcanus (greatsword)
Whisperblade (sword)
Infinite Light (sword)
Vision of the Mists (greatsword)
Reaver of the Mists (axe)
Wall of the Mists (shield)
Ilya (pistol)
Abyssal Scepter (scepter)
Spirit Links (focus)
The Anomaly (focus)
Immobulus (scepter)
Coldsnap (scepter)
Azureflame (longbow)
Where’s the Staff love? We have the Modniir Staff with a nice red glow, but the staff itself is hideous.

Thought it was a Wizard of the Coast promo thing, was going to be psyched if they brought on some D&D guys to work on gw2.
I’ve noticed it as well, although Heirloom on light harmor keeps one solid color if I recall correctly.
I know in light armor, for boots and some skirts, that Earthen and/or Olive dye does this. I’ll update this later tomorrow once I hop back on. G’night for now.
I too feel very powerful, as if, I’m a “God Walking Amongst Mere Mortals,” when I go to newbie zones.
Reading this whole thread, I find it disheartening how some players were awarded multiple times while others not at all. It’s rather cruel to see people talk about it in-game as well, as if rubbing salt in wounds.
Would be nice to award one to everyone just for the Holiday season, but then I can see how players, such as myself, would be upset they only got 1 and others will have gotten 3+. I just don’t see a fix to please everyone. T_T
Attended/Got disconnected during ancient fight, no loot/Looted in Overflow/no mail. So technically, I should have gotten one mailed to me as well since I faught the ancient twice…but, I’d rather they sent that one to someone who couldn’t attend due to the Holiday season.
Yeah, people in map chat the otherday who already got the chest said they also got mailed the chest loot…
Think there’s another thread on this, but yeah, a lot of people are never on in my friendlist or rarely log in these days. Most the gw1 veterans I met in gw2 I don’t see on anymore. Also, most the people I met on Darkhaven have migrated servers…
Orr is pretty lonely these days. That may just be the nerf to Plinx and dynamic events in general that caused that though.
I’d also like to see the source.
This is off topic here, but there’s no Off Topic forum section right? Or am I blind? Wanting to see what people put on their X-Mas lists…discuss other games…books…recommend some games…see what people eat/drink for a nights grinding session…
It is pretty ummm, bad… but I can still jump well enough…unless another Clocktower is implemented while jumping’s still like this, then I could see a problem.
Dear Toymaker Tixx,
I’ve been good this year! I swears it!
For the Twelve days of Trixxmas, I’d like:
1) Dynamic Events having diminished returns removed, as well as their timers set back to their earlier states.
2) Magic Find working* see above. Oh, and Lightning Flash for the Elementalist not being an entirely useless skill.
3)Trade Posts prices dropping off so new players and alts can actually attain exotics at a reasonable rate.
4)Legendaries remaining Legendary.
5) That feeling I had the first month of playing, before realizing I should have rushed to 80 and farmed while it was good.
6) Candy Canes that give 50% gold increase and 50% magic find.
7) Tyrian Gelt that melts in your mouth, not in your hands.
8) Dungeons having holiday themes during the season.
9) A Brand New Bifrost, but I’d take a used Bifrost as well.
10)Trixxmas Caroling with Frosty the Norn-man.
11) An Everlasting "Glob"stopper.
12) Adventure Time with Finn and Jake, with of course Marceline singing all the way…and leave LSP’s lumps alone! Oh, and for Simon Petrikov to find a Princess who loves him…as well as Gunter to stop breaking things.

I have to agree with this guy but will iterate further. Their “Endgame Reimagined” isn’t what they say it is. Where they like to state endgame starts at the beginning it just flat out doesn’t exist AT all.
I felt that way until botters were banned…then TP prices sky rocketted…now it’s grind grind grind grind grind. Same old endgame, now, anyways.
This is not correct. Anet has admitted they made a mistake.
Wasn’t it also admitted that it’s too late to take back so they’re keeping it?
(edited by Kymaera Stormweaver.1069)
Personally I think the Culture armors should be aquired through player storylines as you progress and help that culture out. IE Human storyline, you become a savior and get the gear rewarded, etc.
Actually, I wish the price raised up.
It will actually make more armor look more grand if the other people didn’t look like me.
…and so only those who abused the early game would have it or those who buy gold with rl cash… by those who abused early game, I specifically mean the players who used cheats…then again, I suppose there are a few who ground the gold by doing dynamic events pre-nerf after rushing to 80.
Also, as a human elementalist, I’m not a fan of the t3 culture set so rest easy knowing at least 1 player won’t look like you.
Also, Dyes can make one stand out. Blame ArenaNet for not allowing guild emblems to be plasterd on the awesome t3 human heavy armors tabard. (Highly suggest they do so if they are reading this, it would def add a spark of interest towards aquirment!!)
(edited by Kymaera Stormweaver.1069)
I don’t believe BGs were part of Vanilla WoW when it shipped.
That’s correct. BGs came later to the dismay of many like myself who preferred and still prefer open world pvp. It literally killed open world pvp. The addition of the pvp stat resilience t-bagged the remaining players who didn’t res fast enough.
80, now what? Grind for exotic gear…then grind for ascended gear…then grind for a weapon with a glow/particle effect. Legendaries should be a grind, but in-game not rl cash…stack up the exotic/ascended grind, and your legendary is further away from reach. As it stands now, anyone who throws cash at the game takes 4/5 the work out of aquiring a Legendary.
That there’s at least 1 year of gaming. You’re set for 2013.
(edited by Kymaera Stormweaver.1069)
Pre-Bot ban when material costs were acceptable and before the implementation of Ascended gear as well as the diminished returns on Dynamic Events: Yes!!!
Now? No…I don’t believe the game will keep a strong enough populace to keep them entertained. They did get me looking at ArcheAge, even though it’s the “ever-loved” korean mmorpg, and what looks like a combat style from early 2002, it appears to be sandboxy enough to hop over to. GW2 is free to play though so it’s not like I’d be dropping a sub. However, buying from the gem store with rl cash out of the question until I see gw2 having some longevity.
(edited by Kymaera Stormweaver.1069)
Hahahahahahahaha….
taking exploiting serious….I’ll have to dig up some quotes sometime…but pretty sure you’d cry so…
I was ecstatic when I found out they banned a lot of exploiters only to retract it and reinstate them…apparently letting them keep the items/currency they gained via the exploits… I recall someone from ArenaNet responding with “and if they kept those items, then shame on them!”
(edited by Kymaera Stormweaver.1069)
I know right vince? I’m an elementalist and don’t see those big numbers but didn’t think I would since he’s using a greatsword…then again I am sacrificing a ton of crit damage for magic find since I wear magic find gear 100% of the time now.
Just note w the video above, the moneys from the kill and the chest, and since magic find doesnt work on chests…probably pretty useless unless you get lucky drops on those 2 mobs. Maybe that 10+ crit damage is worth the trade off…
Ultima Online: Reinassance Patch: Introduction of Trammel.
It pretty much created PvP/PvE servers. Use to be one server type containing all varieties of life. That melting pot made the perfect community which got split and made the community divided and other mmorpgs took notes and split server types. Pretty much ended what I’d consider a “true sandbox.”
Don’t forget the staff leaves Rainbows in your wake! (Actually didn’t like Bifrost until I saw the rainbows..lol, still would take a staff version of bolt over it 100% of the time)
Also, melee does have the mace… a disco ball…
I really wish there was a staff that was like Bolt, but change upon attunement, like if you’re in fire attunement, steam or flames swirl around you, in water attunement a mist or water puddles as you walk, earth attunement there’s sand swirling around you and arcane there’d be a pulsing purple aura….of course air = bolt effect…
Just seems elementalist are stuck with more cheerful skins:
Staff: Bifrost = Rainbow colors and leaves rainbows as you move.
Scepter: Meteorlogicus = Colorful planets and Clouds.
I’d love to have bolt on an Elementalist…so fitting…

Hello. I think humans look the best so that’s what I play. Also enjoyed their starting zone.
As a fan of RPGs, I have to recommend playing human and picking these choices during character creation: Raised on the Streets / Unknown Parents. Honestly though, I only progressed those choices to the lvl 10 Storyline quests so far, but instantly fell in love with it. Also think it’d go with your Thief profession very well.
I have also enjoyed the Nobility/Commoner lines, and have more experience with them, just that combo above grabbed me most.
Also, take a look at http://gw2census.com/ and fill it out to see what the totals are. It’s pretty interesting. Of course, not everyone knows of the site or takes the time to fill it out.
You can always play each race to level 5 or 10 and see which grabs ya the most. Also keep in mind each race has racial abilities that can be trained with skill points. Keep in mind, racials can be used anywhere except in Structured PvP where everything is balanced level, gear, and skill wise. You can find some videos on youtube showing racials if you type “Gw2 racials” or “Guild Wars 2 Racials.”

Sadly I don’t think it’s anything players can get their hands on. May float it over at the suggestions section and see if you can get it added if you’re serious about wanting it.
Yea, that’s NPC armor.
lol…
Aye, Legendaries take over 1,000,000 karma pretty much.
A tip to aquire more karma? Do the daily quest and monthly quest as well. Doing the daily will give you 1 Jug of Karma, and the monthly will give you 10 Jugs of Karma. Each Jug I believe gives 4,500 karma when used, however, the guild banners you see around that players place and increase karma gain by 5% work on these jugs, as do the Karma Boosters from the Black Lion Trading Company. I suggest saving up these jugs until you can buy some gems and purchase a karma booster. Once you use a karma booster and a karma banner, you’ll get 55% bonus karma for using the Jugs of Karma.
Lets do some math: Do the daily every day for a month and the monthly, lets say 30 days in a month, that’s 30 jugs for the daily, and 10 for the monthly, so you made 40 jugs. That’s 40 Jugs of Karma x 4500 and comes out to 180,000 karma. Now if you use the Karma banner buff along with the karma booster, those 40 Jugs of Karma come out to 279,000 karma.
Goodluck!
Here’s a useful youtube video showing the Gods Karma armors of Orr in-game:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=42ATDcD1V6w
Also, you can get some other unique armor from karma vendors with an entirely different look than elsewhere. In Harathi Hinterlands for example there’s a heart npc that’s nearly invisible and sells “Modniir” weapons. The staff has a red glow, and I used it for quit a while on my Elementalist as a skin on my staff using a Transmutation Stone i got from doing the Daily Quest.

Sold as a non-grindy game…those who rushed to 80 to farm karma/gold made out like bandits…those who cheated and abused the game made out like bandits…
Luckily, I made it to 80 when it cost about 5-6 gold to make a full set of exotic crafted armor and I could make 3-5 gold in 1-3 hours farming dynamics with my 150% magic find gear…things have changed…
It takes 30 vials of powerful blood to make a full set of Berserker Armor, and at 25 silver+ each vial, that’s 7 gold 50 silver just for that. Along with 30 Globs of Ectoplasm at about 25s each as well, that’s 15 gold to make your set. I just did some dynamics for about 2 hours solid, and made around 1 gold 40 silver. That’s with +150% magic find on my items/food.
Sure got a heck of a lot grindier to me. “Go to FotM to make gold,” but I prefer a more relaxed setting doing open world content…so when that content is driven away, so is my relaxation.
What’s the point of Dynamic Events if you’re making instancing so much more better to aquire items…what’s the point of magic find gear with such harsh diminishing returns…
Even though precursor weapons for Legendaries got easier to aquire, the materials got a ton harder, thus doubling the work to aquire the Legendaries…if not more with the dynamic event nerfs making Karma farming take forever, turning it into a grind. I’m all for Legendaries retaining their Legendary status…but when it takes forever to make an exotic set for those who didn’t rush to end-game, it’s absurd.
(edited by Kymaera Stormweaver.1069)
A week ago I saw a MMO that had a path to endgame for me. Last week I saw a game that saw all players as deserving of endgame content and provided the player with the freedom of choice on what that endgame was going to be.
Today I just see a game that is closing those options, making dungeons the new raids and diminishing its own open world content in the process.
True.
I think I’ll stop playing altogether. Diminishing return on my tolerance to bugs in this game is kicking in.
I seriously laughed, well done!
UO wasnt like that, and unfortunately the hamster model is far more profitable…
the game isnt the problem; its the players
Sad, but true. Too often games are altered from their miraculous creations to fit the form of what is more profitable.
No, UO got kinda silly towards the end.
UO also had players who were essentially told by the designers “go ahead and kill other players for their stuff” on the grounds it would be more fun. I quit that game after I had the same group of 5 stake out my mining hut invisible at the times when I’d play and wait for me to come back with the ore. One even said: “Hey, lemme know if you find some Valorite, I need a new BP” to my dead body / ghost.
And to top it off later expansions DID make it possible to overshoot the 100% Grandmaster skill level. Since the game was less about your gear and more about how efficient you were executing your kills? It made a difference.
UO had some good ideas but, my friend, it had a whole different kind of hate for its playerbase.
A few comments & corrections on those UO statements:
UO did start to sink and get “silly”, ie Trammel, Cast Times altered, Insurance, Artifacts, Magic Resist change to armor resist, etc.
Ultima Online never said they were a PvE(PvM) game, it was strictly open world until the Renaissance Patch introduced Trammel to widen the playerbase to those who sought safety and wanted to PvE (aka PvM in UO). Sadly that introduction killed it for many of the players who had bought and payed monthly for what the game was known for.
UO was sold as an open world mmorpg where you could kill anyone, loot anyone, speak to in-game customer support, role play, own homes, form communities, form guilds, declare war/peace on other guilds, steal from others, Order/Chaos fight, etc. It was sold as a mmorpg where the community drove the content, not the otherway around, that we see today: The content drives the community.
Ultima Online didn’t have a different kind of hate for it’s playerbase. The playerbase altered the game to fit their “care-bear” outlook on what a games model should be, and it set the tone for every mmorpg you play today.
Or…you can simply blame EA. After Origins sold UO to EA, that’s when things really started going bad.
Fractals are fairly fun, the problem is “LF1M FotM lvl 8” “LF1M FotM lvl 15” – so splitting of the playerbase AND they made fractals the default best way to acquire gold and gear while playing the game (even though they still are not very good.) Playing in the open world is a horrible way to make gold or acquire gear now (not that it was so super awesome before, either.)
Notice how few people are out in the world? Blame that on people feeling forced to run fractals for one reason or another. Fractals should be something you run when you feel like it because they are fun, not because it’s the only way to progress your character…
Honestly couldn’t have said it better myself.
I use to enjoy doing dynamics and exploring and seeing the constant combat going on all over. I don’t see it anymore, like Orr for example, mostly Barren now.
1) I only recently started to come to the forums because I’m getting frustrated with how much of a material grind this game has become and wanted to know if others feel the same. Actually played about an hour and a half today…think I’m done for the day due to the grind annoyance…which is a departure from my 5 hour+ a day schedule. Not a fan of pay to win/aquire games. Maybe I would be if I were rich, but I’m not.
2) A few days ago.
3) The leniancy towards cheating, the change in karma farming, the alteration of gear drops and diminishing returns. All of that has pretty much stacked upon my shoulders, not sure how long I can carry the weight.
What annoys me more than this change is how when I dodge, my character now dodges towards the enemy when I’m actually trying to dodge a different direction.
You can toss in the mats you have that it requires to make, and the forge will have a #/# pop up. I know the wiki for the Destroyer Staff was wrong, and I updated it. I had to borrow gold from a friend to finish the darned thing, then sell it to pay my friend back, lol.
Just look at the Lodestone # the forge says it’ll take with your greatsword parts in it.
I have noticed a lot..ok…most of the people on my friendlist in-game are hardly on anymore. I rarely see them log in… makes since from reading this thread I suppose.
+1 DONO!!
I also never thought of it that way.
Yeah, I thought the new island lacked interests as well…
I only go to Southsun for the Rich Orichalcum node…
Yeah, pretty much nerfing any form of money making so you have to buy gems and convert if you want to achieve anything. Getting very annoyed as well…but I suppose that’s why I listed a few other video games on my X-Mas list, as well as reinstalled a few I need to finish.
I do think tassadarpaladin is onto something with that gem card/shop the TP viewpoint…
Sadly that article made entire sense and seems very likely.
I also remember reading something about gw2 not being a gear grind treadmill…
Perhaps it’s not, but is sure as heck is a material treadmill. Grind to get the materials to make ____…or pay the ridiculous Trading Post cost. Tier 6 Materials prices are freaking mind boggling.
If you want weapons with a glow or particle effect, you’re going to have to buy a ton of gems and convert to afford it…or spend a year farming the materials only to have the items become obselete when the next batch of gear’s released. (Legendaries are the exception, for now) GW2 is not the poor nor the casual persons game…not anymore…
