You’ve created a JQ overflow in the SoS map? You guys are like rabbits!!
How do you intend to combat small guilds from claiming and “sabotaging” the build order? It seems like communication and education about it would be a better solution.
Is swapping tiers really going to make a difference. It’s the same map, with likely the same tactics being used despite what tier you’re in. It will likely end up in the same posts of “PvDoor” “coverage is an issue” and all the other topics we are already familiar with.
I tend to think the issue is deeper than just which servers we are fighting against.
Normally, the time after a reset is called “waiting in queue”.
I would support this if you change “Airship” to “Starship” and have them perform “We Built This City” on the second floor of SM.
I believe this is what youtube is for.
Asuran air support would be interesting to add, but they would have to seriously redesign things to make this possible. Otherwise, you just build up a ship and then drop troops into keeps and flip the map in a matter of minutes.
How i would make a wvw game is:
… stuff …
The guild zone stuff was kinda interesting, but I am not sure how well it would work. It makes me ask questions like:
Are you talking about GvG on one world?
or WvW where a world must be built up by guilds that work together first before attacking other worlds?
If you did GvGvW.. that would turn into a chaotic free-for-all pretty fast, I think.
This would also not scale very well because small guilds would get destroyed in battle or eaten by larger guilds.
I do think that being able to use some form of resource (player generated or provided) to build on some claimed land, and then defend it, would be pretty cool. The analog to this would be how EVE does “nullsec” space. Basically, everything starts out open, free, and uncontested. People have to move in, claim it, then build on it to improve it and defend their claim. The area that is claimed provides something to those that claim it.
From there it becomes a story of keeping what you have and taking the rest from your enemy while reaping the rewards of both.
Cut and paste, and light edit, from the sandbox thread:
As for GW2, it would be really nice if Anet were to cater to each of the PvP personalities since there isn’t just one.
*Those that would love a true sandbox experience (persistent world, possibly done by player created structures/weapons, requires tactics/planning/team cooperation, etc)
*Those that would like a free for all pit just to bash people and maybe one or two simple objectives (like Alterac Valley)
*Those that would like a free for all pit with NO objectives (Open field of killing)
*Those that like solo/small team PvP (sPvP or tournament PvP)
Most importantly, have these all separated. That way, when you join, you know what is expected of you. I would hope this would minimize the types of complaints we see from various mindsets (the tactician vs the zerglord, and the hard-fought reward seeker vs the “if it’s easy, it’s fun” crew).

This is by far one of the worst community’s of gamers. It’s pretty much call of duty after school special. That pod cast / web site dedicated to drama is also laughable, really prx?
I’m not really sure how you can call it the worst. Tera recently went f2p and I decided to go back and take a look again. After playing GW2, and participating on the forums, for months, it was like being verbally assaulted just for logging in.
I didn’t miss the warcraft comparisons/debates, explanations of why so many moms are tired, why alienware is the apex of technology, or any of the various other MMO general chat staples that I’ve not seen around here. No one trusts anyone there. Everyone is vindictive/manipulative/and rude. This may be a slight generalization, but compared to what I’ve observed in GW2’s community (even across servers/tiers) it is as close to true as I can get.
Even with politics and " I > U " statements that will be in every game, I tend to find this community much better than that of other MMOs. This, of course, is based on my own opinion and experience but I tend to think I can’t be alone in that thought.
…
Irrc, EVE’s sectors have a rendering limit, but that’s rarely a problem because overly large scale fights rarely occur in a single sector due to the various design choices on the developer’s part.

Brings a tear to my eye just thinking about something so beautiful…
What games DO use a sandbox approach, like the examples that have been given in this thread, for world/realm/whatever PvP ? I am asking specifically for games that are currently active and not just by diehards that refused to accept their game is actually dead. I mean, games that are still current and active.
Any?

An example of one change would be to remove the predefined keeps altogether. Leave it up to the world’s teams to decide where resources should be moved, deployed, and where those resources should be used to build the keeps. Found a mine that is rich in stone required for building a fortified keep? Build a supply camp, deploy troops to guard it, and build a supply chain to the build site. You will have to defend a lot of stuff here. On the flip side, you will have scouts looking for where the enemy is doing these things and you will be deploying teams to disrupt or destroy them.
I have also thought that this would be a much better approach, mostly because it would probably add a couple of layers of strategy and a LOT more variety to the game. It would probably require a different game engine, though, since it would need bigger maps and ANet has already said they are max’d out in that regard. It might also require different points system, such as earning points for territory held instead of for structures held. Given, though, that ANet was too cheap to buy a decent game engine in the first place and that their creativity in sPvP was limited to having four maps all with the exact same mechanic I sincerely doubt that any of this will come to pass no matter how good the suggestions from the player base may be.
All true points. I don’t expect it anytime soon, either. I don’t really understand why though. In all of the MMO’s I’ve played, the communities are always divided the same ways. I would think that developers would know how to cater to those player types by now.
Pretty much what Hexin just said. Basically, if you participate in team play (which is what w3 is) you will be scouting, and defending. If you are just following a LoL100g commander around blindly, while not at least defending what you own, you were doomed whether they used golems or not…
There is a lot of good, constructive, points in this thread. Kudos OP for pointing out the sandbox issue. I figured there was something missing with W3 as it is today.. I just wasn’t sure what.
I do agree that if w3 had more of a sandbox design (and I like the example of EVE) then it would be much more enjoyable. I’m not sure that those who shout “I don’t have time to invest in this.. I just want to kill people” would like something that requires more planning and tactics, or even makes defense required, but I do agree that it ultimately would be more fun for those looking for w3.
I can think of plenty of changes that I would personally like to see (you may agree or disagree with them) though I am not holding my breath for any of them.

This, of course, would have to be more rewarding to those who put in the effort and not require personal funds to complete it.
As for commanders, they wouldn’t run around on the map. They would sit back in a “command center” and issues build/deploy/defend/attack orders to teams. This will make sure that commanders aren’t just people who spent 100g.
There are flaws with these ideas, and many people won’t like them. But some version of them will be useful in a sandbox type environment. At least, I think so..
The best way to have peace at the JP is to remove it from WvW and put it somewhere in PvE where it belongs.
You can take my fuzz box, but don’t you dare touch my Wah Wah Pedal.
Crybaby =P
It only took two weeks for someone to point out my sig
I’ve not been well, and thus haven’t been around for a while. I apologize in not mentioning it sooner.
Heya Jeb. I couldn’t help notice that your sig reads “JQ since beta”. I was wondering.. beta of which game?
I reckon you are trolling, but just in case you are not, and english is not your first language, his sig states he was in JQ since the beta programs of last year.
Which would be a false statement… hence my question.
In my opinion, jumping puzzles have no place in WvW. Period.
Remove the JP altogether. Problem solved.

Get through gates? If you mean this literally, the only application of this that I can think of is wg at bay, which has been the debate of “legit vs exploit” for some time. Of course, I could see it potentially working at other gates. Either way, sweeping for mesmers within that location would probably solve the problem.
Now, if we are talking about a mesmer who is outside a keep that blinks through a wall/door/gate/whatever to gain access.. that might be a little different.
The rest of the world marched on without me, leaving me to lie still and alone. My world was gray, bleak, and lifeless.
..until you came.
Your very touch filled me with life once more —color poured into the world again.
In a world of war and strife, it’s good to remember those who bring color back into it.
I don’t get the point of this thread, care to explain?
“So I’m curious ladies; why do you WvW? And if you do, what role do you find yourself in: support, supply, or out on the front lines bashing some heads?” —Thread OP
I saw you in the sea of other girl and I was enthralled instantly. I asked you if you would be my Valentine; we could hold hands and watch watergate together. Maybe we could swim with the quaggans. Coo?
You just smiled and told me to go write down my desires somewhere else because you were busy with the girls.
Boo..
Anvil’s Last Stand [ALS] is LFMILF 18-40. Cougars will be considered on a case-by-case basis.
Bah, this is not a pick up bar .. shoo! shoo! :p
You’re the one who posted a “girls only” thread on a game forum during the week of Valentine’s day. What did you expect?
You will be my Valentine, right? We can hold hands and watch watergate or swim with the quaggans and make anime eyes at each other. Coo….
So, nice try hacking your way into <location>
I just wanted to let you guys know that <local server> is better than you
<other common inflammatory post content>
Now that that is all out of the way, enjoy the battles this week ladies and gents.

What gets me is when I finally get the guy down and he rally’s off a random bunny…
DarkElvenChic.2618 , That picture is gold.
Lol, I love that one. Found it browsing EVE Online sites, naturally.
EVE generates plenty of good content. I miss EVE a little, honestly. Not enough to have that second job, again.. but yeah. Good times.

Had alot of fun taking part in the dolyak parade, big thank you to Jayne for letting me join even when I told her I was from FEAR haha.
Smooch. Thank you for calling your guys off! Was nice to see them run and join in!
BIG BIG thank you to Ellie who organizes this every week. It’s a ton of fun!
really wish i coulda been there!! anyone got any pics or videos?
stuck at work at the mo. : ///glad it happened!D and sounds like it went “well”? ; ))
Lol it did. Well for the most part. I think some of those SoR fellows just wanted a little moose meat for dinner. Thankfully after they’d nibbled on me, and a few others, the tryptophan kicked in and they joined in the fun. Most made it all the way through with zero deaths, which speaks volumes of how great it was When I compare it to that first fateful dolyak parade waaay back when, it was a roaring success! It’s pretty freaky to run in a sea of red names, but that’s half the fun.
Why do I get the feeling that a taste of you would lay me out all night…
Oh, that was my out loud voice. /blush
Dolyak powered ballista cart, anyone?
Dolyak? Dood.. try Alpha Siege Golem! >=)
That doesn’t make sense, you don’t use a high tech vehicle like an M1 Abrams to haul siege weaponry from 200BC around. Imagine a zerg riding into battle on ballista mounted dolyaks though, that’d be cool.
Doesn’t make sense? I suppose the siege golem in general makes sense for the era, right? Or the fact that I shoot magic lasers from my greatsword? Ignoring the “realism” factor, I think you get my point.
But yes, mounted weaponry would be cool/interesting. So would mobile walls/lifts to infiltrate keeps.
Reminds me of the other guy’s Voltron post (im too lazy to look). That /t chat would be screenshot worthy
“INC Voltron to watergate!!!”
The WM thing is my point and was what spread the plague. I honestly think SBI could have survived, even thrived without WM but instead people just bread animosity against WM all the while saying that the sky was falling. Some folks stepped up and some folks didn’t like that. We ended up fighting ourselves then it led to apathy followed by escape pods firing.
Dunno, I guess everyone has their view of what happened. If you stuck with SBI, you have more resolve than I; even when I tried to help herd the kittens. Good luck to you.
I still don’t really understand why your guild, as well as others chose to leave SBI. You guys had a guaranteed spot in T2 as far as I was concerned and probably could have rebuilt and beat SoR at some point. WM left, and you guys lost T1, but it was the second exodus that killed SBI and your guild stands primarily at the forefront of that. Everyone has to pursue their own fun, I won’t fault you there, but reality is that SbI was absolutely fine when you jumped ship.
Feel free to PM me and I’ll give you my point of view. I say PM because this forum has enough opposing opinions spread all over it and I’d rather just explain the point of view rather than have it dismantled into something it wasn’t intended to be.
Otherwise, yeah, fun was something to do with it.

I quoted this just in case the mod re-edits it haha. Someone needs to make a song to this.
Btw… BOOM! Gonna rating reset happening! kitten on you bishes!
/facepalm
(edit: I hate you forums. stop jacking with my posts!!!!)
Every single one of those can easily be done in WvW….
Cap a tower? Bam, there’s one event done. How about taking a sentry? There’s another.
While moving between objectives, you can grab all your resources and take care of the gatherings, which on average give you 3 per node.
Dodge? I would assume you’re already doing this in WvW.
Veterans? Don’t camp guards, tower guards and whatnot all count as vets? Capturing a tower alone should probably fill that out pretty quickly.
O….hold on guys. I could rush to this tower to defend it but I need to stop to gather this mithril for my daily! Yeh….PvP at its finest…lol
This week’s forecast: Shady with an increased chance of resource node ganks.
I know. Makes me sad =(
My point was that right as everyone moved to new servers, they announce rating resets right as no one could go back to any server they may have originally felt loyalty to. People are now pretty much stuck where they moved to. Kinda feels like either bad communication or a really slick practical joke on Anet’s part.
People that switched servers to the top servers did so because they wanted to be fighting at the top level. Same reason servers were recruiting in their weak times, because they wanted to compete at the top level and you can’t do it without coverage.
Reset the ratings has no impact on that. You will still have to have 24/7 coverage to get to T1. All the servers that would have been fighting at the top level will continue to do so after the ratings reset. It will just take a couple weeks for the top tier to get decided again.
Servers like SBI that were on their way down, because they lost their coverage would have still been on their way down after the reset. Granted it would have happened much slower had they not announced paid transfers but the ratings reset means nothing. So no, no one should feel like they got screwed because they will still be fighting where they wanted to fight. They may just have a couple of matches where they blow out a couple of T7 servers first.
Fair enough. Perhaps I just didn’t understand the consequences/effects of the reset. It just seemed pretty funny from where I was sitting.
Re-Re-Re-Reeeemixxxxxx
Can you not just edit all that stuff out? Or does your post appear normally when you look at it in edit mode lol
EDIT: O wow, didn’t see the “Edited By Moderator”, that’s hilarious.
It looked fine to me when I posted and when I went back to edit it. Then yeah, I saw a mod tried to touch it and it didn’t do anything. So yeah. Let’s just pretend it never happened.
><
/tiphat and 15chars to you.
(That’s 15 bloodthirsty Chars that will crush you under the weight that is the legion)
I enjoy ganking former SBI members now on SOR, more specifically repeatedly wiping UL and MORD on SBI BL in our garrison last night. I want to TY you all for sacrificing you’re kittens for our happiness XD. Still lots of pride on SBI.
At least I know I am not among the Mord members you speak of. I’ve been enjoying post procedure recovery and unable to be at my computer for any time longer than to copy mp3s to the tablet. I miss you guys.
Except for all of you who like to put a pike in my face. I don’t miss you guys quite as much.

I’m on Stormbluff Isle… The “fallen angel” server, I hear. :\ From what I understand, I got into World Versus World right as SI fell from grace, so I’m constantly staring at the tiny little sliver of the pie we have as we futilely push just to survive. Morale for just about everyone on the server is completely shattered. It’s hard to feel prideful when you’re so horribly outmatched.
I used to be on SBI and really loved it. When we came in third, I still loved it. Then drama happened and people fled like it had the plague. When my guild left, I figured it was time to just let the memory of the SBI I knew be just that. So, since I moved on, I don’t know if I can call it pride or loyalty or whatever… but I certainly enjoyed SBI pre-cataclisym.
Btw.. I just want to see if anyone else finds this funny:

I’m assuming this is in response to people who /sleep during the chaos of a battle in hopes that people that don’t have sound cards won’t hear the extremely loud snoring sound and give away the fact that they are still alive.
The ability to select them might also give away that they are not dead since you can’t do that with dead enemies.
I’ll just ask.. why are you having a problem telling the living from the dead?
Server population cap have been increased again and SoR has room for all remaining guild members to transfer over, be sure to get over soon as before we fill up again!
Score @ 11PM GMT
Wish I could.. I don’t think work would enjoy me installing the GW2 client on my system though. Hopefully I’ll be able to follow my guild before it costs gems.
I miss you.
(this space left intentionally blank)
Wait.. TC is an RP server? This game has those? o.O
Figures… I get epic health problems and WvWvW becomes fun again when I can’t play.
Glad to hear SBI is putting up a fight.
