Little bit of a continuity error (S3E4)

Although you can play through the story immediately, it actually plays out over a month or two (roughly the time between episode 4 and 5). Season 3 in total plays out over a year within the game.

Ah, so it is more of a “This will make sense later” kind of thing?

So the attack on/from Lake Doric basically “just happened”, right? Well I ran into an NPC with some odd dialogue.

http://i.imgur.com/3vdR7K1.jpg
(Couldnt screengrab the dialogue bubbles, sorry, I waited for like 15 minutes to see it again)

The girl is apparently the daughter of the man to the left. The father starts off by saying how he “Remembers a time when there was a lake.”, like the daughter wasn’t there for it, to which she replied, to the effect of “grumble I know, it was here a few days ago.”.

Notice the last bit? A few days ago? How long has it been, story wise, from the attack taking place and we first arrive? The first sequence mission made it seem like we high-tailed it over to the lake ASAP.

I mean, I guess this line will make sense in 2+ days, but it seemed odd.

Is this a new trend?

That’s A scroll. No evidence it is THE scroll. A single throwaway NPC at launch that makes no connection here is not enough setup for a major plot point.

https://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Asgeir_Dragonrender

“… rumors say he had a powerful jotun scroll with him as well; the scroll has been lost since, though believed to be in Hoelbrak. Though he failed to kill Jormag, he took one of its teeth from Jormag’s maw as a trophy and proof that the Elder Dragon can be harmed, being the first to do so.”

I mean, it isn’t directly said, but cmon… how much more do you need at this point? Plus, I think it is a good thing for them to build up existing lore more rather than introducing all new lore just for the story.

As long as the Asura versions actually have proper boots rather than their toes clipping the sides. That is really the only real gripe I have with this game. Proper boots.

That said. Animated armor. Taking a page from the likes of Aeon eh? Not upset at all by this. I think its good when good ideas from one game makes its way to another. I doubt I will ever get my hands on any legendary armor because I am not a real hard core player, but eh.

GW2 - Medium Armour Lacklustre?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lazarus.3970

I also find the lack of proper fitting boots for asura quite annoying despite there being a system in place that allows per-race models. Some of the boots almost look like they purposly made the kitten toes stick out, or worse, they just hide the toes all together.

Medium armor only has ONE proper boot, the T3 Cultural armor, while heavy has THREE, being all the cultural armors, and light armor has zip.

They already spend time making custom models for the many of the asura versions of armors, so why are boots magically left out?

At this point I would flipping pay to get some decent boot options.

Solo option + heroe's

Lazarus.3970

If you want to play solo, there are way better games out there than GW2 for that. Start with Witcher 3, Fallout 4, Skyrim, Dragon Age: Inquisition and their DLCs for a good 100-150 hours of better gameplay, better story and better graphics.

MMOs are meant to be played with others. You strip the multiplayer part out and they are really, really hollow compared to single player RPGs.

It is clear you do not understand introverts.

Ive played GW2 mostly solo since launch. Ive had a lot of fun doing the misc things like jump puzzles, and from time to time ill hop in to the world events. I am not part of a guild, and my friends list is small and contains inactive people.

I love the guild wars lore. I love the guild wars world. Just because it is an online game doesn’t mean it has to all be social group content. I enjoy it because I get that sense of feeling that people are there, doing their own thing, vs a single player game where I know they are all just AI.

They shouldn’t exclude introverts ion all of their game design.

I primaraly play alone. I have my one solo guild, cus reasons, I rarely group, and the last time I did a dungeon? Hell if I remember.

I can say that I do feel that most of the HoT content is focused on groups, which is fine. I will often join in on the event mobs, no biggie. However, my main gripe is how some things like map completions are tied to group content, and if there are no people in the area, well Im SOL. I have to hope some people come around.

For me, Id like if there were more solo content that actually had meaning and reward. Don’t get me wrong though. There is still a lot to do as a solo player, and I enjoy it, however, I just feel kinda excluded from some things because of how I play.

That’s just me. I enjoy HoT thus far, and I know more content is to come. I still have a lot of things to do too.

[SPOILERS] speculation on the ending cutscene

in Living World

First thought that came to mind, if you remember Trahern mentioned that the pact was originally planning on going after whats his face, the crystal dragon. First though after the cut scene was that the pale tree wants us to find a way to get Mord and Kalk to meet and fight one another. This would allow us to swoop in for the kill and take out 2 dragons at once.

The theory of finding Glin’ts egg is a good one too. Could go hand in hand. The Zephs had the egg, which is why that one Sylvari sapatoughed them, to try and get it, but the master took off. He may have been taking it to the ley line to hatch. Or if the egg is out in Glint’s lair, then Kalk may be nurturing it as a new champion.

All good stuff.

I agree, that portion was poorly done. I mean, we are talking about trying to reverse THE Foefire, and it was summed up into about 10 minutes of running around, followed by an annoying boss battle. Granted it failed, but the ritual was incomplete, so it still could happen, but I would have thought they would have put more time into it when dealing with such a huge event from GW History. At least all the other “assist XXX” quests before were based on “Quell the enemy for a bit but destroying XXX”. This one was “Help me stop the the entire ghost army in one swoop”, and it turned out to be a hand-holding fetch quest.

My Little Problem with The Elder Dragons

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lazarus.3970

Lazarus.3970

This very question is brought up by one of the Zepherite children on the back end of the flying ship.

The child asks a teacher why the dragons want to kill everyone. She tells him that the dragons are just a force of nature. They no more want to kill us then a flood or an earthquake wants to kill anyone. They just do. Simply put, the dragons are just doing what they must do, which is consume all the magic they can and sort of “reset” the world.

So, are the dragons evil? Depends on your perspective. They appear evil to us because they are destroying our world and homes. The dragons know full well that we are here, and know what they are doing, and they don’t care. They have no reason to care, unless we try to stop them, then they fight back.

I can understand why you might dislike the reality of the situation, as we have all basically been trained to see a clear cut “good vs bad”, but that is not always the case. The movie, Watchmen, is a great example of this.

3 Game fix's we need ASAP

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lazarus.3970

Could someone explain #1? Is it about trying to join WvW?

Regarding AFKers: I think the solution is an increase in the time you must be actively participating to get the reward. As it is right now, I can come in on Claw of Jormag at 5% and still get gold and the chest. I think each event would need a custom participation level, and perhaps a reward below bronze to act as a “you tried, better luck next time” for if you didnt participate enough to meet the minimum for bronze. But conceptually, I think it has more to do with the very low standards of what the game considered “participating” for events.

And as for RNG returns increase. Keeping in mind that I’ve had, and always had, terrible luck in my loot drops in almost every game I’ve ever played. I don’t even have enough materials for even 5% of a legendary weapon, and Ive only gotten about ~10 exotic drops in my time playing GW2 (Since launch, the last one being about a month ago, and the one before that was after the Karka event when Southsun was released).

Anyhoo, I don’t think boosting the returns from RNG loot is a good idea. Granted, it would help me in obtaining the items I want most, but I don’t want to play a game where the rarest equipment is flooding the market. I am comfortable where I stand with my equipment, I have long term goals set out, and the dream of owning a legendary (The Dreamer) may never come true, (God knows I wanted Obsidian armor in GW1, but I just lacked the skill to farm the materials and brave the FoW) but that’s fine with me. If I could get everything I ever wanted in a month, then what reason would I have left to play the game?

Anyhoo, that’s just all my opinion. If they did boost the RNG loot, fantastic, but I wouldn’t push for it.

As one asura says in Rata Sum, golems don’t have memories, just a list of directives compiled in the neural nexus. Without memories, they can’t even “know” they were oppressed. Some may have the ability to retain information, but at least for the ones imployed by the peacekeepers, they do not. This is probably a result of a previous supposed uprising of sorts an elderly asura mentions where he asked for directions and a golem tied his ears to a sign post for 2 days.

Sure you can say “magic yadda yadda bullkitten”, but no, magic is not a crutch for weak ideas.

Consider that if people want you to be filtered out of a group, maybe it’s actually for a good reason instead of instantly responding “WTF elitist!” and refusing to make your own group.

Its not about refusing to make our own group. Sometimes its difficult to get a group going for some dungeon paths, especially story mode, so being denied a group based off my DPS and equipment means I could go weeks without being able to complete that particular dungeon path. I can make my own lfg every day, but if its a rarely run path, then getting a group together can be difficult, and being denied a group for BS reasons just compounds the issue of not being able to find a group.

Ive done HoW once for path 1, and have never done SE because there’s never any groups, and have not been successful in starting my own.

You’ve been asking the entire time for people to give actual examples of what they want. And when people finally do that you dismiss it out of hand.

Yeah, Im 99.9% sure Id never get a group if someone saw my stats like that. I use my shortbow the vast majority of the time in dungeons because its the only weapon i feel I can use for most situations, but its not overly strong. As a thief Ive set up using mostly power, precision and toughness. Its not right for someone to kick me from a group just because they don’t like how I set up to play.

So make your own group. Only you get to care how you want your group to play or they get kicked.

It cost 0 gold 0 silver 0 copper to create your own lfg.

99% of the time, I never see the zerker/exp/level 80 parties. Should I put up and join the casual parties? No. I create my own lfg and watch how fast it fills up.

But you are effectively forcing the community into 2 groups.

I can understand why you would want such a feature, but a simple DPS meter doesn’t truly relate to skill or effectiveness. Maybe I am good at staying alive and can quickly res people? You don’t know that. Maybe I just cant afford the best gear? I’m not rich, and only have about 6-7 gold consistently. I may be wearing all exotic armor, but my accessories are mostly rares, because the exotic versions are stupidly expensive. I do have 2 ascended accessories, and am working on an ascended weapon, but you are proposing to castrate me from 50% of the groups because I’m not a power player with tons of money to buy all the best equipment. I know how to play PvE content, and I’m fairly good at staying alive, but you and your proposed DPS meter wouldn’t even allow me to prove my worth simply because a number wasn’t high enough for your standards.

You: “I’m sorry, you are X class, so you should be using Y armor and have Z stats. I don’t want you.”

Well kitten you too. I don’t want to play with a judgmental prick anyway.

I have about 5,200 AP, someone I know that started playing the same day I did (Launch day) has over 16,000 AP. Are they inherently better then me? No. Reason being is I am not an achievable hunter. I did complete all the jump puzzles and got all dive points, but I am not a big PvPer/WvWer which seems to hold many large AP rewarding tasks. I do the minimum 5 daily tasks, sometimes, and have only completed a monthly once. I just don’t really care about AP. I am an average player and i do fairly well in dungeons/fractals.

Because no other examples are ever given. 50+ posts later, I am still the only one who has given reasonable suggestions, which others have agreed with as well.

All we want are more armor options with skirts, frills, lace, and such for our female characters. I don’t care if it’s floor length skirts or knee length dresses, lace bodices or ruffled sleeves.

99% of the armor in the game has a skirt of some kind as part of the torso, if it is not already a jacket/coat. Adding in skirts would drastically conflict with the established design.

For the record, that “skirt” on the armors is mostly used to eliminate the seam between the legging and the torso. It is a design decision many games employ when dealing with customizable armor such as this.

Ruffles would only work on light armor, else they would look out of place.

How about some frilly jabots for the guys too so they don’t feel too left out? Let us all get in touch with our feminine sides!

No self respecting guy would be caught dead with such clothing. I’ve not met one guy who liked frills.

Well, rangers can use harpoon guns. If they used tridents instead harpoon guns, then that argument would be supported by the weapons they can use, but the harpoon gun kinda hinders that.

Lore wise, everyone is born with the ability to use magic. Well, almost everyone. Its a very rare occurance, mostly happening in times when the world has a low magic level, like just after the elder dragons finished consuming the magic, that someone could be born without magical abilities.

“Magic is intertwined with the ecosystem and the creatures of Tyria, and is just as much a part of them as it is a part of the world itself. All living beings have a natural ability to access and use magic, and it is extremely rare that someone is born without it—current theories suggest that this typically happens more often when the world is at a lower level of magic.”

Forced gender diversity has NEVER been a good practice in the gaming industry.
Female characters that can’t wear “male clothes”(aka, more covering clothes) and always have to be almost naked ARE sexist, and wrong.

What we have here is the complete oposite: the imposibility to use cute or delicate, or even skimpy clothes on some chars. This is wrong TOO.

But, the solution isn’t to make the female versions of armor more “femenine”. That is going back to the first problem. What Arena Net have to do is to add are new wearable items more “cute”, “delicate” or “skimpy”, wich people could use, no matter the gender of their char.

But HOW do you make armor more “feminine”? No one has said anything about what these desired changes should look like. How do you make a pair of pants more feminine?

1. Helmets – Cant do much there. They are what they are.
2. Shoulders – Ditto.
3. Gloves – Ditto.
4. Coat – The only thing I could seem them doing with these are make them more dress-like. But that brings up a few issues.
— Heavy armor leaves little room to work with. Asrua don’t have boobs, so they don’t need any definition on the chest, and making it too elaborate is just impractical.
— Medium armor is mostly depicted as being trench coats. T2 and T3 cultural armor are some of the few exceptions, and IMO look the best among the medium armor lines for Asura. They could medium torso armors look more dress-like, but then you need to ask, do they redo existing armors, or keep the changed style for new armors only? I personally would be really kittened if they changed my favorite armors to be more dress-like.
— Light armor already has a sizable range of coats that look more like fancy cloths. If dyed right, as I’ve seen many times, its possible to get a more “girly” look with color alone. This applies to all armors actually. The Nightmare Court armors IMO are best for “feminine” styles.
5. Pants are pants. They have slim and slack versions abound. I use the T2 cultural medium pants because they flay out and cover up the upper part of the T3 medium boots. And once again, heavy armor is subject to that practicality look. It would be silly if they made heavy armor pants any different because they are the pinnacle of armor protection, and should look the part, fitted for protection. Either you make heavy armor actually be armor, or the other alternative is they look skimpy.

There really isn’t much they can do to make the armor more “feminine” without upsetting the existing styles. However, if they decided to make some armors/skins that are meant to appeal to female players, given the new wardrobe system, then sure, I can see it. Maybe some shoulders that look like flowers, a nice hibiscus flower hairpiece, or some goggles with heart shaped lenses.

The moral of the story is, “feminine” and “armor” just don’t mix. Armor is meant to cover and protect, not accent the feminine shape.

Remember the dragons are extremely powerful beings. They literally feed on the magical life force of the world, and they emanate that magic while they sleep. To come face to face with one while they are at full strength is literally suicide. The goal of the latter half of the personal story is identifying the dragon, figuring out how he basically works, and crippling him bit by bit.

Without giving away anything. The biggest issue people had with the death of Zhaitan is that it appears he dies like a little kitten, but they forget that the personal story quests, you crippled him but various means. It would be like trying to fight someone much bigger then you, but first you break their legs.

I do suggest you read through the wiki about the lore. There is a lot going on. I personally love Guild Wars lore more than any other lore.
