That would be fantastic if they do allow at least a replay of old LS content, I mean I could care less if I missed some of the more challenging achievements, but being able to replay the historic content that disappeared would be a great idea, thanks for the feedback by the way!

WARNING, WALL O’ TEXT.

Hey everyone,

I use to play this game since beta, loved every bit of it. Still do love the game, even though i’m not playing it at the moment. I have a question for you guys though.

I’d like some opinions from you guys on the LS world at the moment. I had quit the game around the first Scarlet LS. The reason why I solely quit was because the new content was very zerg infested from Queens Gauntlet but it was hard to finish up when it came to achievements. Many people could just tell me right now " oh well achievements don’t need to mean anything! It doesn’t matter! Just don’t do them. " But the weird thing is that I enjoyed them personally. Some achievements were extremely fun but hard and frustrating which was sorta enjoyable and extremely satisfying as it meant it would take a while for me to master it. It meant I had to take time to figure things out and understand how to complete them via group help. Yet for many of the LS achievements; I wasn’t allowed time to relax and try it again through out the month because it could be gone by next week. Somehow this caused a non stop feeling of stress for time and forced game play. Getting to the point where I had to play more hours than I could which in the end meant that I needed to stop. Though I do wish I could come back at some point, it pains me to be a lore and story lover and know that because of many LS achievements and stories being only temp, that coming back meant I’ll never be able to experience that content I missed. When realistically here, why force it to be temporary? If you think about it, people that play and get everything done quickly will still have their story and achievement points done way before I would. However, somehow I am not allowed to try them later?

I understand stories in which they require mass zergs could not be done again normally, however it could be amazing if they created a journal in which you could dive into the past and redo some of these events. I mean what if they allowed zerg events to be party events instead, in which you could invite your friends to help you via story achievements and what not? I just gives way more repayable content that gives you things to do with new players, friends etc.

Maybe what i’m getting at here is that I don’t really understand the reasoning behind getting rid of new content for the sake of making someone feel special, or even dated as games that change can still have repeatable old content which can be placed into the lore. Or if they do because it changes the world, why not make a repeatable book mode for histories sake? I do notice a lot of people complaining about how they don’t see the living world adding up but maybe if they were given a personal journal, it would help new players and old line up the dots? Maybe it’s just me? What do you guys think?

Okay… Okay.. so Rune did you completely ignore Arrow’s post or something? Can you not understand things too well? Because some people can help line out everything that’s going on for you. I’m not too sure about you, but I did events with low leveled chars and NEVER had the issue of dying in 2 seconds. I’m not sure if you know that dodging is actually a very good mechanic in this game when it comes to surviving and timing your dodges to getting hit can be a life or death situation sometimes.

I’d also advise since this game is heavily based on story and lore, make sure to read the website when new updates come up, it can really help any issues you may have with not knowing what you’re doing because they explain everything that will be going on in the patch and where to exactly find all the new goodies.

ROFL! So true Gabby.

I know it can be a pain missing out on this type of stuff but believe me, people were wanting new content to they had to please the people that played quite a lot, and this was their solution. You can always find out about the story from the GW 2 lore site but you really haven’t missed much, if one story you missed turns you off, good luck actually playing then.

I’m just going to state this now but this thread is important unlike what what shiren was complaining about.

Seriously guys, you will always be missing things. You’ll be missing events in the world, you’ll be missing awesome events in the game world too. Hell I haven’t even played half of the console games my friends have and they say it’s so fun! Yet I know i’ll never have the time to do it, you gotta pick your choices wisely. I know it can suck if you miss an event but seriously you can read up on it, the GW 2 lore updates pretty kitten fast so you can get into the story and what is going on and happening fairly well.

Destai I do believe they are making an expansion but they needed to quiet down some of the player base that was actually insulted by having nothing to ‘do’ so this was their solution. There are people the opposite of you that think this needs to happen more often. Believe me you can never please anyone.

People comparing real life to a game….not so much
People defining laziness as not wanting to do repetative tasks for hours & hours & hours that eventually become not enjoyable….not so much
People comparing themselves or their girlfriends to everyone and thinking their anecdotal evidence is law….not so much
People who like grinding acting completely baffled that everyone else doesn’t feel the same way they do….not so much
People who don’t know what the definition of grinding is…..not so much

Caring about what everyone else thinks or says or spouts off in forums about how others should play….not so much

That’s actually a pretty awesome reply! I must say, it’s true, why should it matter so much? I’m not trying to say my point is right in any way, i’m just wanting to know the other side of why people don’t like it. I’m not baffled at all because I see this quite a lot and i’m getting pretty confused, so why not ask? I’m going to of course state my own opinions because it’s a discussion thread right? Seriously if you give me really good points, i’ll agree with you. However stereotyping people and how they act isn’t the best route to go, just saying.

I think you’re right, why repeat the same thing over and over again? I guess that’s because it’s a game. Even in the old games, you would repeat levels you use to love to play. It’s also true, why compare a game to real life? We really shouldn’t. However I find it unrealistic to believe you can be happy and excited for countless of hours on a game.

Yeah I completely agree with that! I think people just need to realize though that these items are simply just.. ‘items’. You could quit and come back to find even more awesome stuff that will be better than that item you grinded way back for so long. It’s the mentality that they think they have to complete the game with said ‘item’.

And you’ve basically explained the Skinner Box that is our, and practically everyone else’s, MMO system.

You know what’s creepy too? Life is a giant Skinner box system… xD!

Seriously, I haven’t been on a game that has not screwed up on something. Every game company is run by humans, we make mistakes constantly. Yeah you guys can hold on to the whole ‘they lied to us! ’ speech but it won’t change anything. I’ve already let it go because they already know what they want to do to this game, I mean if something is bothering you terribly with the game, put it in the suggestions. At least you tried right? I know that grind happens, but some grind could be eased a bit.
Let’s take my current object of obsession for example:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Flameseeker_Prophecies

I agree, they could tone is down a bit but I think the whole reason of legendaries was to make it extremely hard for the hardcore player base. I mean I won’t get a legendary because I just don’t have time, but that doesn’t mean i have to have it. That’s the thing, it’s not a game changer. Desires can be tossed out.

I mean there will be more weapons and armor coming out that could look just as awesome or even better and may be easier. Just because it’s hard to get doesn’t make it amazing.

I believe that people are just lazy in today’s world, that is all it is plain and simple—LAZINESS.

XD;; Everything you just said, I sorta agree. People don’t like being displeased, uncomfortable, or frustrated. But that is simply life, if a game didn’t do this, I don’t know how you would be having fun 24/7. That is just not possible.

Also a lot of people replying had some good answers, like more ‘story modes’ and ‘challenges’. Yeah I’d like that too! However, these types of things actually take a lot of time. Making one zone for this game i bet took a couple of months of planning, testing, thinking, and making. Trust me, i’m partly in the field. So when you consume content at such a fast pace, expect boredom to hit you hard.

This is no attack or any sort, I’m just curious here.

I see a lot of people complaining about content being a grind in this game. I would really like to know what they would do to make it less grindy, or how they would change the game. Because to me that’s usually what mmos are about; advancing in a slow progress to an achieved goal. I mean what i’m getting out of certain players is that they want things done super quickly, but wouldn’t that make the game really boring?

I’m just super confused with some of you guys. If anyone could explain I would greatly appreciate it.

EDIT: Would also love if some of you guys could give me some other MMOs that aren’t grindy for examples!

Just dirty cold war between two old enemies; but the characters are likable in a sense and I enjoyed freeing the miners. Those two bosses at the end were the most fantastic; loved the move sets and the traps in that place! It actually felt like a challenge, and it took some decent team workittenep up the good work!!

Wait a minute, who said that you had to do a daily every day?! This is your desire but it doesn’t mean the company needs to bend backwards to make it ‘less time consuming’.

The funny thing here is that a lot of you think that dailies just have to be done. I barely do my dailies, does this make me less of a player? No. Do I not get items? Sure, but I can just do it another day. Stop wanting to be spoon fed. You all have years to play this game, why is it that missing one day destroys your mood? It’s a kitten daily.

You know, for once I’m actually really happy about the prices of gem items are in this game. They may seem a bit pricey for some, but for me, there have been a lot of games the milk much more out of people than how Anet prices their gem content.

Recently for comparative sake I saw that TERA online was selling three costumes, 1 being a full dress and the others were 2 hats. For $60…. Yes.. I’m not joking.

Does anyone else seem to like the pricing at the moment? Do you feel like it should be even cheaper? I feel like it seems to be pretty balanced out.

Lazmira.5408

Wow Birdy you are over complaining… BUT I will at least try to explain to you that all MMOs do have problems.. This is also because people demand more in the gaming field.

Every new game you will go to will have issues, bugs, errors, bots, corruption. I do understand you are frustrated with the guild issues but a more positive function would to put that in the suggestions forum, because they may just look at that and realize that it should be a bigger priority.

I’m just going to state this now, but if you ever spy on Anet’s company building. It’s actually quite small. What does this have to do with anything you may ask? Well since i’m looking for jobs in this market, I’ve been looking at every big game company for a while now, and a lot of companies have way more employees and workers in general than Anet does. For what they’ve been updating; even though it may not make everyone happy, is to me extremely impressive with the amount of man power they seem to have.

Low-level Areas - Big Issue

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Lazmira.5408

Could you tell me what you were exactly wanting in this game? What were you looking for? What were you expecting? What were you assuming would happen?

The game is huge for one thing, so this in itself is a problem, but players wanted a huge open world. As much as there are full or high populations, since everything is now spread out, there won’t be 20 people all doing one dynamic event. As for emptiness, my server always has someone people within the area of every map if you put yourself out there and actually chat on the map chat. You need to be talkative and open because you can’t expect people to come to you. I’m on Tarnished coast which is an RP server with great people on there So maybe you should try there instead! I would love to help out with your quests actually!

The problem truly is that the gaming community has changed drastically. Everyone just wants to get stuff so they feel that ‘high’ of self accomplishment. Not go out and try to connect with others. Seriously I’ve tried to talk to anyone that comes my way and it’s more along the lines of silence that I mostly get from every other MMO I’ve tried recently. I don’t know if it’s because gaming is so popular now, we just sorta ignore each other like we do in real life while walking along a path. But i’ve had no problem with GW 2 than with every other MMO out there when trying to socialize.

If you’re looking for a more social game, try Mabinogi. It’s all about connecting with others and having fun.

How do you define "win" in gw2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Lazmira.5408

Lazmira.5408

Yeah seriously, I don’t think you can ‘win’ in an MMO.. I mean mostly they were used to make connections with other players, but now people think it’s to have all of some certain thing and then they’re done! It just doesn’t make sense to me. I think MMOs are about having fun with others, unless of course you wanna get competitive with a group of friends.

I think yeah they should bring out some guild vs guilds! It would be great! Also you can still join your guild mates in overflow if you click on them and it should say ‘join’ or something like that.

The PVP tourny used 5vs5 because people complained that having more in serious pvp makes it a mess.

I’ll agree though that I wish they could let parties join certain events!

snowball fight. cant get any points for the wintersday titles. either other team has present, and impossible to catch the carrier before they get to base (cant get stopper point), or someone else on my team has the present (cant get bringer points). the one time i managed to actually pick up the present, i didnt get anywhere before getting killed

  • whine whine whine? I got it done pretty quickly. I REALLY don’t get how this event wasn’t fun. Maybe for you it wasn’t but for MANY of us it was.

bell chior. i know i suck at this one, but i just dont see how you can click the buttons fast enough to get the all or even most of the notes. even when i think i one, i still take damage. 34 notes so far, out of how many? 500? might be possible just randomly hitting keys, but its still not going to be fun

  • Do you have lagging problems? I do know it can be harder if you have crap internet. Otherwise it’s actually a decently hard mini game. You have to learn timing and coordination. I remember messing up a lot at the beginning but I got better at it, i’m almost perfect at medium now and I’ve been able to finish my achievements easily for it.

timed jumping puzzle. no. no. no. i feel the game’s basically insulting me. “not good at jumping puzzles? too bad. here’s a time limit, go suck it” falling off in 3 hops isnt fun. having it wait however long it is before you can try again isnt fun either. and since you start taking damage. ive heard one remark suggesting you basically have to autorun the whole way to the end to make it in time.

  • Can you not take a challenge? do you need to feel high on your epicness all the time? Try to actually train and try again. Pick yourself up off your kitten feet for once. By the way that’s not true, I can pause for about 5 seconds and still make it.

toypocalypse is better, but there’s basically no coordination/teamwork there with a random number of players, (as few as two, and sometimes like 6-7). i did manage to get 50 waves completed, but im pretty sure the title track counts several points for each actual wave, as much as 7:1. and since all the dolyaks die inside of 3 rounds because all the toys A) move faster than the players and go straight for the dolyaks, i have no idea how you’re supposed to get the canceled achievement.

  • I’ll agree they should make it partyable. I was able to do a run with all dolyaks alive with pugs and with less than the max, you need to upgrade your turrets and have people shooting constantly.
  • You don’t have any way to improve these events, so instead you prove to us how fast you give up. Seriously.. I don’t even kitten well get a lot of time to play this game and I still got my achievements! How is that for inspiration?

Lazmira.5408

Just going to put some points in.. Next time, just really, really try hard to not get over hyped on a game. As you stated it was the ‘messiah’ of MMOs is a very bad way to think of new games. It’ll always upset you in the end usually because you have assumptions and expectations that you don’t know if they’ll be filled or not. The reason is because you’ve already played games and MMOs for a long time, so there will always be some elements that will be the same for you and you will lose that excitement from the hype.

Also because of this you may not get that nostalgia from any new games since this usually only occurs when you’re young or just starting to play games. I could be wrong though but I haven’t had much nostalgia now that i’m much older, but I just enjoy games as they are now.

Also it sounds like you sorta got left in the dust which is pretty mean.. Sadly I don’t see the point at all in playing MMOs if you don’t play with friends or make friends to play with, since well, it’s never fun anymore if you solo an MMO. Can’t really say it’s casual since the grinding at the end is pretty crazy, it may be that because you know there isn’t an awesome boss at the end (which yeah is disappointing) that it doesn’t seem worth it. This is entirely your opinion and that’s perfectly fine. I’d definitely say you still want WoW again since you miss the raiding content which is basically also endless grinding but also have a challenge. Just going to point out though that Anet always stated that Engame was all over the place, and not at 80. Which has been sorta true, I’ve died at a few bosses in random places. So in all seriousness i’d say go play WoW again, because you guys sound like you play for long periods of time, and GW 2 right now doesn’t have as much content as WoW does for the time being.

This isn’t a huge issue compared to some other suggestions, but this would be in the list of pet suggestions for sure.

I noticed when using different chilling pets that the white moa’s screeching ability to chill foes is about half a second or maybe just one second? I mean the animation itself takes longer than the chilling duration. It just seems way too short to me compared to the owl’s chill which manages around 5 or 4 seconds. I also believe the alpine wolf has an aoe chill that lasts about 4 seconds as well, so why does the white moa have the shortest chill in the game?

I know it chills multiple foes but it still doesn’t seem very useful in my eyes but maybe it was meant to be this way, anyone else feel the same for this pet?

Actually this is something to do with the player community that you can notice in general.

I’ve played other mmos where they force you to party with others and you know what happens? No one talks at all because they just want to get it over with already. It’s as if people find it a job and just don’t want to try communicating anymore. Usually if you don’t force team partying people generally find their way into talking and finding others to play with. Maybe because MMOs now are such mainstream now and have been overly played that people don’t get a sense of amazement when they see another player, like back when MMOs first started.

However I’ve met a lot of people on here that have saved me from dying, talked to me and even helped me out which has been a HUGE improvement compared to other mmos.

I’m in love with this game, especially the jumping puzzles. If you’re the type that love to get into a good story, this would definitely be it. There are quite a few bugs but nothing i’m sure they couldn’t fix. Keep up the good work Anet! I’m loving everything about it! From pvp to pve.

You guys are so devoted so thank you for trying your hardest for us! We are watching and we appreciate it!

I also salute the OP for starting this.. I’m noticing a lot more now that people want to be literally hooked to their games non-stop, not to mention people did that with this game and are now extremely burned out from my experience.

The problem is, is that our society keeps getting faster, everyone needs to have the best of everything (including gadgets) As much as I love them, but it’s starting to get pretty annoying, enjoy what you have or else you’re going to be bored a lot more from trying to find the newest thing to entertain you.

Anyone else ever play a game that hasn’t had bots? As much as I agree with getting rid of them I think we should all just keep reporting. If in a couple of months they seem to be over populating or staying the same then yeah, there’s something wrong, but for now only time will tell.
