Suggestion: Add race change to Makeover Kit

There is a lot more to change then amour.
Personal story for one thing.
The devs have stated before that it is simply not possible due to how had coded he player race is.

Then why not make the char an honorary “Norn” or “friend-of-the-Norn” for example, in order to continue the story line?

Race should not be an issue, except for cultural armor.

Please add the option to change a character race when using the Total Makeover Kit. I’ve seen quite a few people asking in map chat if it’s possible to change race.

The only warning that should be attached to this, is that obviously cultural armor will not be usable on another race.

Other than that I don’t really see any other issues. Let’s say you start an Asuran. You play the game and then find that you don’t like the way armor looks on an Asuran, but love the look on a Human. By using the Total Makeover Kit, you can simply select to change your Asuran to a Human.

I know you can simply delete your existing character and create a new one. This is not ideal if your character was created a long time ago however.
I, for example created a Norn Guardian at launch. I love the Guardian, but absolutely hate the jumping animation on the Norn. I would love it if I could change my Norn to a Human, without having to delete and re-create it and so lose-out on birthday gifts.

Hi BloodRipper.

Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded the free version of CyberGhost 5 and connected. The client updated to build 27,495. I then uninstalled CyberGhost 5. I’m able to log into the game and play now.

Now I’m receiving Error Code: 58:11:5:512 “The game client was unable to connect to the log-in server.”

I logged a call with Guildwars2 support. They then asked me to run the client with -diag and also run the Game Advisor to test for connectivity issues. I had to upload the results to NCSoft support however. This is just ridiculous. There is NO connectivity issues.

I am still sure there is a problem with the patch server. Sort it out and the problem (disconnects, lag etc) will go away.

A-Net releases a minor patch, which breaks their whole game. You have people complaining about connection issues and other about massive lag. This is unbelievable…

Hi. Like many other people here, I am unable to play the game atm. I can log in and get to character select. However when selecting a character, I get kicked out of the game after a brief load screen.

According to http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Game_updates/2013-12-13 the latest build is 27,495.

When I click the “Game menu” (gear icon in the top left corner), during character select and choose Options, it displays my build as 27,381.

The client does however not update to 27,495, even when started with -image. It appears the patching server is either messed up or down. I suspect some people managed to download the patch, but now it’s refusing to do so for the rest of us.

Logging a call is also pointless, as the support team takes absolutely forever to get back to you and when they do, it’s some generic answer not even related to your problem.

Please look at your patching servers….

I come from a GW1 background, where there is no such thing as gear progression.

Lost Shores introduced gear grinding similar to all other MMO, and the constant nerfing of the Guardian, I’ve decided to call it a day, until things change.
Where are all the original GW1 devs? They probably left and were replaced by other MMO devs, that decided GW2 had to be similar to other MMOs and less like GW1.

I haven’t logged into the game since last Friday.

After the Guardian Greatsword nerf, there was a huge outcry. People simply wanted to know why they did it. What did ArenaNet do? Nothing. They simply ignored it.

After the Lost Shores outcry about gear treadmill, there was a huge outcry. People simply wanted to know why they did it. What did ArenaNet do? Nothing. They are simply ignoring it.

ArenaNet is simply ignoring their community. This is weird, as this didn’t happen in GW1. ArenaNet is not ArenaNet anymore.

I have kept an eye on the forums, hopeful for a comment or clarification, but NOTHING!

So until they pull their act together and decide to return to their philosophy as per the “Manifesto”, I’m afraid I won’t be playing this game anymore.

GW2 Infused gear vs GW1 Infused gear

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Introduction
When I first read the article “Linsey Murdock Unveils New High End Ascended Gear”
(https://www.guildwars2.com/en/news/linsey-murdock-unveils-new-high-end-ascended-gear), I noticed that some of the terms used were very similar to terms used in GW1.

What do I mean by that, you may ask? In order to explain this, we will have to go back to GW1 – Prophecies.

GuildWars 1
During the Flame Seeker Prophecies, you had to complete some missions in the Crystal Desert, in order to become “Ascended”(http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Ascension).
This would allow you to see the White Mantle’s “gods”, which were in fact the Mursaat.

The Mursaat(http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Mursaat) are a race of “invisible” spell-casters that use “Spectral Agony” to kill their enemies.
So how did you combat “Spectral Agony”?

You met the ancient Seers(http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Seer). They were at war with the Mursaat and nearly got annihilated. The Seers managed to negate “Spectral Agony”, by “Infusing”(http://wiki.guildwars.com/wiki/Infused) your armor with the essence of a Eidolon, a beast which you had to kill.

GuildWars 2
“Ascended” is now simply “Ascended Gear”.
“Spectral Agony” is now called “Agony” and is a condition.
“Infused” stays exactly the same, but now combats the effects of “Agony”.

Conclusions
So if this is so similar to GW1, then why is everybody so upset?

In GW1, you however did NOT have to acquire a different set of “Infused”/“Ascended” gear. You simply infused your existing armor!

When armor was “Infused”, Arenanet simply added the word “Infused” to your armor,
similar to “Customized” in GW1 and Soulbound/Account-bound in GW2.

The GW1 system worked beautifully and didn’t introduce the gear-grind or balance
issues, which Arenanet have now introduced to GW2.

In GW1, you can use the “Infused” armor, without any unfair advantage or gear-grind in both PvE and PvP.

“Ascended gear” in GW2 should have been purely cosmetic, with stats similar to Exotics.

Legendary weapons don’t give you an advantage over Exotic weapons as they share the same stats.
So why should Ascended and eventually Legendary armor have higher stats than Exotic armor?
What has changed?

There should be no bridging armor, as per AndrewMcLeod’s post here:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/I-ll-be-honest-about-the-gear-and-gearchecks/page/3

Legendary weapons and armor should always only have been cosmetic, as per the manifesto and various interviews with Arenanet.

Arenanet, why did you introduce a gear grind, with higher stat gear?

EDIT! See the attached image of GW1 armor. The armor has the same stats, with or without infusion.

Well, this nerf, and more importantly the moving around of skills, has made me decide to quit the game altogether.

I’m also not a new player and have GW1 GWAMM and 50/50 HoM.

Why didn’t they just remove retaliation completely from the skill, instead of increasing cooldown by 100%. This nerf has nothing to do with retaliation (and I call BS on their explanation), but instead to nerf Symbol GS Guardians.

To all the other classes gloating about this nerf, just wait until it happens to your class and they completely shuffle all your skills around as well.

This whole thing has Izzy and GW1 Paragon nerfs written all over it…

Sure, but this is really not a small matter. This is a key feature of the game that is horribly broken.

How much more patient should we be? It happened for many people immediately after launch. That’s a month ago.

So getting upset is being rude? Please. If you were sitting with this issue, with no replies from Arenanet and them closing related support tickets, then you would be upset as well.

I’m asking for an update, and if your story was fixed, then why even respond here. I’m sure all the other people that posted in the sticky topic are sooooo happy for you.

Who said they have to hire 20 support techs? Please grow up. I simply need a response from them (not 20 or even 30 tech support guys, but 1 dev) on a sticky topic, which they created on their official forums, but are ignoring it.

As the topic says…

They created a sticky here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Did-Part-of-Your-Story-Get-Skipped-or-Changed-Post-here/page/8#post95954

Yet nobody has given any updates. I suspect this sticky has been created to keep the forum clean and to “dump” all the personal story problems into one topic … which is conveniently ignored or not seen as a priority!

Countless times now, Arenanet has announced that the story-skip bug has been fixed. To this day people are however still reporting personal story skips in the sticky mentioned above.

Support calls/tickets to https://support.guildwars2.com on this issue is simply closed, with a response that already broken stories cannot be fixed at this time….

We however get responses on this forum stating that : “Blah blah blah, we are working on a fix. Blah blah blah, thanks for your patience.”

Well, this has been outstanding for WAY, WAY to long now. Can we please get an update, as to when this is going to be fixed?
Can we also get an update as to when already broken personal stories on characters will be fixed?

Come on Arenanet, this is really starting to become a real issue, as your main selling points are “community” and “This is my story”. If you play the story with your friends, it skips some steps for some members of the party.
This is like reading a book, but tearing out chapters 5-8 and then expecting the reader to be happy with it.

Please give us an update ASAP!

Edit: Thanks for the responses! There should be a fix on the way for the bug.

I know you asked that we do not enter into a discussion or ask for updates on this thread. The last response from a Dev has been two days ago however. And that post from Alexandra was just to say thanks, with no indication as to how much longer this is going to take.

We’ve reported my gf’s problem on this thread, but since the problem occurred, we have completely stopped playing the game. (It’s been more than a week since this happened.)

Can we please get some feedback from a Dev on what’s going on? This (Story) is one of the most important parts of the game, imo and with it being broken like this, has spoiled the game for us completely…

Apparently, I have a bug that my friends don’t have, in which opening the guild panel puts me in a weird state of lag (can’t say anything, but I can see other people moving) and then disconnects me after a few seconds (this only happens if the online members list doesn’t load right away), and if I take too long to close the guild panel, I’ll be met with a disconnection when I log in again, since the panel will still be open. This applies to the friends list too.

I’m in the following guilds: Clear [CLR] (2 members) & Test Queue Please Ignore [QQ] (441 members).

This issue has been happening for about 1 week, and it’s pretty frustrating having to log in several times before I’m able to see who’s online.

PS: this is the code I get on disconnect: (Code=3032:1002:3:3939:101)

Both my gf and I have exactly the same issue. We’ve tried opening the Guild window om various computers, with Anti-Virus and Firewall switched off, but yet we are still getting Code 3032:1002:3:3910:101 (Network error .) and then the client “crashes”.

I logged a [Incident: 120830-010005] with support nearly 10 days ago now. Yesterday (9 days after the call was logged), I received this “generic” copy-and-paste reply from support:

Hi there,

I apologize for any delay in responding due to the large influx of petitions we’ve been receiving.

Please forgive the “form letter” nature of this response, but it does cover the most common support requests we’ve been receiving and we want to get you into the game as quickly as possible.

Read the post.. They will just reset you to chapter 6 according to the post. That means if you wanted to know what happened in between those times, you miss it.
Its counter-productive for me to have to repeat that when its in a sticky.

Just because they fix it doesn’t mean they plan to do anything further to fix the people already suffering from the problem.

They are just checking on how to prevent more people from getting it.. which is good. I’d honestly like to see less people having problems. Except they have stated no intent to fix people who already have broken characters due to no fault of their own.

Please look at the whole thread here. People are upset, because they want it fixed for already messed-up characters. Just saying they cannot do it, is just not good enough, period!

As somebody mentioned; what if this happens during a future expansion? Then you must simply re-create the char and redo everything?
This might happen, as they claimed the “bug” was fixed already…

Surely they need a tool that can do a “consistency-check” on a character story and roll it back, to a point, based on your choices.

Anet will HAVE to fix already broken characters story-lines, otherwise you will really have a lot of upset people, who already invested in a character, in many cases their main. And what about dyes unlocked on that char? Crafting levels achieved on the char? Sorry, you must simply redo it… I don’t think so!

If Anet comes out after this and still claims that they cannot fix already broken character stories, then I can promise you that they will be crucified.

Since this entire fiasco has made a huge hole in the storyline for us, I am curious what everyone else has decided their characters did during those 18+ levels of storyline quest that are now missing content as far as we know… with no plans from Arena Net to fix it (obliterating large pieces of content from our character is not fixing) because we are the minority.

I think this is counter-productive. How will flights of fancy resolve the issue? Rather let them fix the issue, instead of closing this thread, for getting derailed.

For those who have been affected by the issue, can I please get the following information:

  • Group composition:
    • Race, Profession, Level of Characters, etc.
    • Story choices for each character in the group (Blackout, Vigil, etc.)
  • Who owned the Kellach’s Attack instance (which character created the instance in which others joined)?
  • Which characters progressed on to the Level 48 quest?
  • For those who did not progress on to the Level 48 quest, what quest were they directed to instead?

It’s not Kellach’s Attack for everybody. It’s broken during different Lvl 30 (or thereabouts) quest.

  • Group composition:
    • 2x Norn, Guardian (42) and Ranger (42).
    • We both joined the Order of Whispers.
  • It wasn’t Kellach’s Attack, but rather “Down the Hatch”. It was owned by me, the Guardian (42). My gf played as the Ranger (42).
  • My gf, on the Ranger, went to quest Level 48. I’ve attached her story progression. “Down the Hatch” doesn’t even show in the log!
  • The quest after “Down the Hatch” should have been “Thrown Off Guard”.

I am following up on this issue now, and will keep everyone updated of any changes. I understand this is frustrating and will ensure that the the importance of the matter is emphasized. Until we are able to implement a fix, please be patient and keep us informed of any additional information or details should they arise.

Thank you!

What exactly are you following up? The bug still not being fixed or whether they can try and repair existing broken character stories? Or both?

Please stop the generic help-desk bs replies (I’ll follow up) and just tell us what exactly you are going to follow-up.
Also let us know if they are planning on investigating a fix for existing chars and a patch/fix eta.

Should we continue to wait in hope that you will fix this, or should we get a refund on a clearly “broken” game and move on to something else? I think we deserve an answer ASAP!

This is really imo the biggest bug in the game and to belittle it as just another bug, is a huge mistake.

Anet was all about “This is my story”. Then when the story is broken: “We cannot fix existing chars, but will release a patch to fix future chars.”

I play games mainly for the story and if the story is broken, the game is broken and not fun or worth playing.

If only i could upvote this somehow haha.
Losing exp is kind of a pain, but the bug happened to people who were playing in groups… you can still experience the story by playing through the events with your significant other / friends etc. And if it really were that big of a deal for me I could just re-roll, I haven’t put that much time into the character yet. However it does seem prudent to develop some way of fixing issues like this in the future, when re-rolling a character means a much bigger investment.

Also, thank you for looking into this further Evan.

That’s great for you (not putting in that much time into a char and thus are willing to re-create your char), but not everybody want to re-create a char, which is most probably their main…

Also who is to say that your new char won’t have the same issue. The bug was supposedly fixed already…
Currently this is a hit-and-miss, with a random outcome everytime. How many times will you be willing to re-create your char, until you are also fed up?

Yep. I make your words mine. And obviously, by the latest posts, it is NOT fixed yet. If they don’t at least give the rewards and experience to the people affected by it, they can at the very least expect two refund request, for me and my girlfriend will not want to keep this game anymore.

I feel exactly the same way. The issue didn’t occur for me, but my gf. We play together and if they cannot fix this, then I also want a refund.

I’ve been a champion of GW2. I’ve been waiting for and following it for 5 years. I played GW1 aggressively with 50/50 HoM, but this is a deal-breaker.

Hey everyone! Thank you all for reporting this issue, especially to those who provided so much detail about this bug!

This issue should be fixed as of the latest build of the game, and while we will unfortunately not be able to reset characters which have already skipped the level 30-48 story steps, any new characters should not run in to this issue.

If you DO run into this issue again, please let us know everything you can about the issue as soon as possible – what character you’re playing, what race they are, etc. – and we’ll take another look at it!

Thanks, again, and good hunting! =)

Sorry, but this is unacceptable. Surely you can do some integrity check to fix this. So you are telling me that you guys cannot get the “choices” made by a character and where the issue occurred (ie where the next step in the story is skipped) and roll back the story to that point?

Your excuses for not fixing it for existing characters that is already affected by this “bug” is weak.

You claimed to have fixed this bug before, and yet it is clearly still not fixed. So you are now telling us to start a new character and hope and pray that you did actually fix it.
What about people that have already invested many hours in the game, including crafting levels and materials? You are simply showing them the finger…

You bend backwards to allow exploiters back in the game, but yet you are not prepared to investigate a fix for this? Great customer support sarcasm.

This is absolutely pathetic!
