We all know you would likely make “Gangnam Style” the next playable races dance…

Well I say, kitten that! We all want it and we all want to see massive Gangnam Style dance syncs in Lion’s Arch!

I vote for a /gangnam dance emote for all races and classes!

Thanks for listening, keep up the good work! This game is awesome and I plan to play it for a long time…. unless you ignore the above…

If it were a hack on Anet’s side, would not the problem be far more prevalent than just 0.1% of the population?

Who knows. IF there is a problem on Anet’s side or with the client itself, it does not have to be the same problem, could be different in nature completely. Rifts was so prevalent because you did not even need to know a username at all. You could basically use the exploit to get access to random accounts and see what they had on them of value. Exploits and cracks come in so many different forms, perhaps if someone needed to know the email, but could bypass the need for a password.

But this is pure hypothetical discussion. I just wanted to point out that it is by no means unheard of for this kind of thing to happen. There is so much money in RMT that there are probably 1000s of people constantly trying to break the system or get your account details at any given time.

In fact, I would love to see some write ups and interviews with/by the security people working for companies like Blizzard, ANet, NCSoft, etc.

Ok guys its pretty obvious that the guild wars game is having a major hacking issue right now. I am reading these forms and hundreds if not thousands of players are getting banned accounts for "taking part in or assisting in gold or real money trading etc…

Would someone please kindly release some form off statement as soon as possible to let everyone including myself know what the issue is and how you plan on rectifying it…we all love guild wars very much and this experience is begging to tarnish it.

Thank you.

What you are stating is not true.

Accounts are stolen every day. It’s a sad fact of life that players use passwords on multiple locations, use a weak password, share their account, or do something else that results in the account’s theft.

We have not experienced a security issue. These are individual issues. And while you’re seeing perhaps a dozen posts a day about this subject, hundreds of thousands of people are playing without incident. I believe that Mike O’Brien stated that the percentage of people whose accounts were hacked was about one tenth of one percent of all account holders.

Please do not post alarmist comments about “major hacking issues” that do not exist. Each person whose account was compromised should submit a ticket to Support and, for faster service, should provide the information in the “How to submit a ticket” thread above.

Note, I have had no issues and I use the authentication app now as well. However, just want to point out that a lot of post have been made about this (not all), by people who seem to at least have a moderate sense of PC security, report using a fresh password with GW2, etc. Just a reminder, that not to long ago, a very big AAA mmorpg released with a flaw that allowed major account thefts (http://rift.zam.com/story.html?story=25684) that the devs didn’t see. In fact, they regualarly told users their passwords where not strong enough, gave pointers on account security, etc. before a user finally figured out the issue Rift was having was a client side hack….

Not saying it is the case with GW2, and if it was something similar, turning on email confirmation or 2-factor authentication probably stopped it for a majority of the player base. Just, don’t be too quick to rule out that there maybe more than meets the eye with account thefts.

Sorry if someone already posted this, I did not read through all the post…

When you log into the Game, and the authentication code box comes up, the focus is not on the text box by default, but seems to be on the window in general. Several times, I have seen the box come up, typed in my code, only to realize I need to first click on the text box and then type it in. Would be cool if it selected the box by default.

This is not the case on the website, only seems to happen on the game client.

Autotargeting Versus Promote Skill Target

in Bugs: Game, Forum, Website

Posted by: LeoDeSol.7604

LeoDeSol.7604

Is this bugged, or is the tool tip just misleading?

What I don’t want: Auto-targeting. I don’t want to hit my auto attack (1) or any other skill and have the game automatically select a target for me unless I really do hit it or I am aiming at it specifically. If I hit 5 on greatsword, or 1 on longbow, I dont want to have it choose something I am not, aiming at specifically, for me.

Turning off auto-targeting works. Great.

What I do want: to be able to run up to a target, hit a skill directed at the target, and have that enemy become my target. Promote Skill Target option seems to read like this option should do this, but it does not work without Auto-targeting turned on.. With Auto-targeting turned on, what this seems to do is only lock targets so that I cant run to another enemy that is attacking me and have it change to that enemy without hitting tab or clicking it to de-select the other enemy.

This just does not seem how it should be, or a 3rd option is needed. A happy medium is what I am looking for. When I am playing ranged, I don’t want hitting 1 to cause the game to try to choose what it feels is a good target. But if run up to that target or aim to specifically hit it, I want the game to “promote” that to my target.

Currently, my solution is to change my settings based on if I am playing my Warrior or my Necro, Ranger. If I am on Warrior, I turn on Auto-targeting and turn off skill promotion. If I am on my Necro or Ranger, I just have to turn off both and select my targets manually. Promoting does nothing by itself until you select something, Auto-targeting causes anything within my range to become my target even if I didn’t want it to be (like a non-aggro animal vs. the risen nearby)

I dont know why everyone keeps running into this farming DR issue. I have farmed for hours, in the same zone, and have never seemed to hit this issue. I do move around a little bit, within the zone, rather than focusing on one enemy type the whole time… this is mainly to keep from getting too bored. I also do any DE I happen upon while farming, so maybe that is why I never seem to hit any DR on fine crafting mats, equipment (white, blue, green, and a occasional yellow), or anything else. Sometimes I am in full magic find, sometimes I wear my Knights gear based on farming level 80s alone, groups at a time.

If DR is so bad, the bots would not be so prolific…
Try that in dungeons. You do a dungeon in 1h to get only40s or less. The thing is, if you waste 1h farming DE, you can get more than 2/3g.

TBH, I havn’t done tracked it enough to know for sure. However, I tend to leave dungeons with a ton of crafting mats, whites (I salvage), blues, greens to vendor, and occasionally a yellow or even a few yellow to salvage for a chance at Ectos, so I tend to think I trend higher than 40 to 50 silver on dungeons. However, I dont usually run them back to back, so I am not ever hitting a DR either.

Either way, I will 100% agree that farming a zone while doing DEs is more profitable. Hell, if I am doing a zone I have not map cleared combined with killing everything and farming every node, plus doing every DE I see, I can easily see this being 2-3 gold an hour, if not more.. Maybe I need to start keeping track, but gold just doesn’t seem to challenging in this game. Of course, this is coming from someone who hasn’t even started thinking about a Legendary yet…

Thanks for the headsup on this. I’ll be sure to let our items folks know about the rune being soul bound. That seems odd to me!

Please look at the upgrade family of Mark, Talisman, Seal, Medallion, and Crest. You get a lot of these from dungeon and dynamic event chest, often 2 for things like Claw of Jormag for example, but they are often soulbound. They are rarely good for my 80, which I tend to get most of them on him, but would be awesome boost for leveling alts. Right now, I usually just keep them for tossing in the forge when I have 4 of them, or vendor them.

Server Capacity Decreased?

I’ve noticed that after the 24 hour transfer limit was put in place a lot more realms were constantly full (Possibly because people aren’t server hopping around?). I myself didn’t read the patch notes, and now I can’t get back to my home server because I’ve not yet seen my server dip below “Full” since I transferred last. I’ve even set alarms for 4 A.M. on multiple days just to see if I can get the chance to play with people I know again, but to no avail…

I’ve never seen the servers stay full for so long, and I know for sure I don’t see more people playing. So, what gives?

There is a scheduled patch tonight that should bring down the servers and boot everyone offline. It may not matter, but it would be worth trying just after they come back online. Plus, Anet recently said they are working hard on the bot issues. A patch might also mean a purge of some of them as well, which may make some open spots for a little while tomorrow morning after the patch.

Question on Toughness, Vitality, Power, and Diminishing Returns?

in Warrior

Posted by: LeoDeSol.7604

LeoDeSol.7604

Currently working on crafting myself Knights and Emerald Exotic gear, Power, Toughness, and Precision.

Is there ever a point, at level 80, where any of the stats become subject to diminishing returns and it would be better to switch, from say Toughness to Vitality if you want to tank, or say Power to Crit if you want to do more DPS?

I don’t yet have the gear to test anything like this, but it seems like it would make sense that there would eventually be diminishing returns on a lot of stats based on how the game has tried to balance the gear, i.e. all level 80 Heavy Exotic gear has same base armor stat, all Exotic DPS 1 hand have same base DMG stat, etc. I would think they would balance fights based on the available Item sets and stats to classes.

Longbow is one best weopons in the game

I like both. I lean towards Longbow for PVE and group fights, including a lot of dungeons. Riffle’s range and some higher crit abilities make it petty nice for single target fights and sometimes PVP.

I prefer longbow for situations where I want to kite, like soloing a champion, etc. I like to be able to kite them around in burning damage, pin them down, for a heal, etc.

I like Riffle for bleeds too, and extra range in WvW.

Underflow Server - A suggestion for the future!

in Suggestions

Posted by: LeoDeSol.7604

LeoDeSol.7604

As much as it pains me to think about it, there will probably come a day when a good portion of lower level zones are fairly empty. It happens in most MMOs eventually. Given enough time, eventually you will see less and less new subscribers and alts leveling. Sure, there will be some, but nothing compared to the massive amount of people you see doing hearts and dynamic events in these zones today…

So I suggest the Underflow server option, the opposite of the Overflow server. Basically, if you enter into a world zone where the total zone population for your server is lower than a pre-determined number, you get a popup asking if you would like to be moved to a underflow server that combines players in that zone from many servers together. Of course, you could always choose to stay put and deal with having less help in events, etc.

2 factor authentication is a great idea! Everyone should use it whenever they can!

So, since Google uses OpenID 2.0 authentication, why not give us the option to use our 2-factor protected Google account to log in to your game and/or forums?

Or could we get a Anet app for that?

Additionally, your right, online databases, especially forum databases have proven to be a low hanging fruit for attackers looking to get email, login, and password list as well as distribute malware via various methods. So, perhaps we could be allowed to have a Anet forum specific password that is tied to our account, but different than our game and account settings main password? Turbine did this, and I thought it was a great idea, for the same reasons you mention in your article.

Security is primarily our own responsibility, but you do have the ability to further empower us to protect ourselves.

Keep fighting the good fight! You guys have built a awesome game here! I can tell you have the talent to implement the above and more (if not the hours in the day to do so)…

Using Vengeance sometimes leads to a second death immediately upon respawn at a waypoint. I would die normally under Vengeance then take a waypoint only to immediately die again.

I can vouch for this and it is easy to replicate.

When you use vengeance, if you are killed again (not by vengeance) and you have to waypoint, you will die again as soon as you spawn at the waypoint (vengeance death kicks in). This cost extra repairs too.

Easiest was to replicate this: Find a veteran or champion. Die, pop vengeance, let the mob kill you before vengeance does, waypoint someplace… you will insta-die when loading screen ends.

Fine Crafting Materials Drop Rate

in Crafting

Posted by: LeoDeSol.7604

LeoDeSol.7604

Trading post will not help, because to level a profession (and not craft a particular set) you need any of the mats. Got 3 blood vials? Great! No bone chips, but have Venom sacks, does not matter! Stuff that you don’t need for crafting nobody needs at all. And except for cooking every craft needs same fine mats.

Trading post does help depending on how you gather and craft. Gather everything as you play, it is XP anyway!

If you craft Jewelcrafting and Armorcrafting, sell your Wood, Leather, and food ingredients. Sell your lower level ore once you level past it if you don’t plan to use it later (likely that wont unless you level something else needing ore since there is no profit in low level crafted items on trading post).

If you craft Weapons and Leather, sell gems, food, spare wood, etc.

Use funds to buy fine goods. Sure, fine goods cost more, but you get a lot of nodes just running around doing hearts, map clears, and playing the game so it more than equals out.

How, and why, I think Magic Find works

in Crafting

Posted by: LeoDeSol.7604

LeoDeSol.7604

I have seen a lot of speculation on the forums and on youtube Guild Wars 2 videos that Magic Find may be broken, or at least it doesn’t help much.

I think the confusion with it is in the tool tips giving Magic Find as a percentage and people getting over 100% magic find.

However, most likely it works by increasing your chance to get the item by multiplying the current chance for any item by your equiped magic find . This means that if you have 100 magic find and 10% chance to get a gem when mining a ore: 100% x 10% = 10% improvement for a total of 20%.

Of course, what we do not know is what the real drop rates are on anything. However, it is safe to assume there are loot tables for monsters and that rare and exotic items have the lowest chance of dropping. So, maybe it is .5% or 1% for a yellow… if you have 100% or more of magic find, you are doubling your chance, but still only 1% or 2% total.

It will be hard to test exactly how magic finds works or the normal drop rates without a very large data set. Maybe one day we will get something from a dev that confirms how it works.

I do believe it works though. I spent a lot of time mining and farming in my Magic Find set this weekend. It is easier to see it working when mining, probably because gems have a much larger chance to drop than green, yellow, and orange items do when fighting. I also notice that I have a lot higher chance at 4-5 ore (meaning a second click on a non-rich ore node) when using magic find set than without it. This, even more than the gems I get, is why I think it is at least working, even if we a not sure about the numbers yet.

Bag Slots For Gems

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: LeoDeSol.7604

LeoDeSol.7604

I don’t really see how this is any different than many other games in the end? I think this equates to about, what 1 to 1.5 gold per slot, worth of gems.

Why unlock more until you are sure you are keeping the character? Why delete so many characters that this is a issue? In many games, you pay game gold to increase bag and bank slots on a per character basis and if you deleted them, you would lose those upgrades (bank and bags alike).

The only difference is, you have a option to buy gems with real money instead of gold. However, you do not have to do so, you can use gold to get your gems.

Anet has to make money somehow. If it is too big a deal, use the gems on extra character slots first.

Only 2 simple things needed to fix dungeons...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: LeoDeSol.7604

LeoDeSol.7604

Regarding 1.

You do know that you can leave the dungeon whenever you like and come back after you changed your build?

I do… Most people don’t or won’t. Especially in pugs. Most of the time, this means waypointing (anywhere from 1-5 silver) to Lion’s Arch or some other home town, paying silver to respec, then waypointing back. The cost alone is going to turn off most pugs.

Lets face it. If there was a respec NPC right by the repair forge in each dungeon, people would be a lot more likely to both know about the importance of re-specialization for dungeons, and more willing to do so.

ALSO, unless they finally implemented the fix… leaving a dungeon might make you unable to get back to the same dungeon instance as your party.

I dont think the dungeons need nerfing right now. Most people are still learning them and gearing up so they will only get easier.

However, a way to respec at the dungeon, to adjust your tactics and composition would be awesome and help parties learn to mesh better to overcome challenges or tune themselves to better compliment their party make up.

Only 2 simple things needed to fix dungeons...

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: LeoDeSol.7604

LeoDeSol.7604

There are many suggestions for fixing dungeons going around. However, I feel only 2 things are really needed to “Fix” them. The other suggestions may be valid improvements, but to the most simple things to fix the experience of dungeons right now:

1. Fast and cheap trait respec adjustment. Add a NPC at the beginning of each dungeon that can reset your traits. This gives parties the ability to figure out what might work better and adjust strategy. Glass Cannon warrior spec not working out too well for you? go respec into tactics and defense for more of a support/tank role.

2. Incentive. Better or more unique rewards from the dungeons themselves. As it is right now, most of the stuff is suited for vendor or maybe… salvage. More crafting mats would help too. Maybe some Orchachalcum ore towards the end of each level 80 dungeon as a example. The tokens are great, but only useful for looks for all the pre 80 dungeons, so perhaps adjust the token cost of the pre 80 dungeon vendors to a point where it might be realistic to get a set for use while leveling up.
