I’m more than content to suffer a few minor bugs to get first-person view, finally. It’s a huge quality of life for me, and I’m sure many other people, as is a field-of-view option.
TL;DR: New dailies are much more obtrusive to normal game-play than old one were and in general, take much more time. Together, the combination is very disappointing.
Rewards are much nicer though, but I would prefer less obtrusive dailies: preferably, the limitations removed (instead of “View vista in Kryta”, view any vistas; instead of “Kill Boss X”, kill any World Boss etc, with the necessary amount of tasks increased if needed, for balance (f.e. 2 vistas or bosses instead of one, 6 events, 20 nodes gathered). My main problem with the new dailies is that I used to be able to complete a daily, no matter what I decided to do. Now, if I want to complete dailies, I am directed to a very specific area of the game.
Some tasks are worse than others: vistas or gathering are usually fast enough, but things like events or fractals – or worst, specific bosses – take a lot more time and detour from my preferred activities.
I especially dislike the specific world boss one needs to kill: sometimes, due time constraints, this achievement might not be possible.Another problem I see is that some of the tasks might be impossible to complete for people who are new(er) to the game.
This is a great discussion of the problem, and a perfect solution.
In short, there are too few available options each day for the dailies. One of two things should change, I think, in order to make this more fun and fair and less obtrusive to normal gameplay.
1. Add more available dailies to be completed, and have them at least be in the same map. I shouldn’t have to go to one map for a vista, across the world to mine some ore, then to a third map to do events. This is not fun, and it feels like chores. If they were at least all taking place in the same map, I could just play in that map more normally, still be able to complete the dailies, and not feel like I had to do chores in the game.
2. Remove location restrictions. Instead of “Ascalon Lumberer,” just have “Lumberer.” Instead of “Frozen Maw” or “Southsun Cove Event Completer,” have simply “World Boss Killer” and “Event Completer.”
As cherrie said, increase the number of needed events to make it more balanced, but that is a silly list. Those are actually my PvE dailies right now. I have to go all over the world to get those.
By the same token, I think for PvP, it should be, instead of “Daily Warrior Winner,” just “Daily Winner.” And maybe make it two or three matches instead. I don’t know much about PvP, but I gather the same problem exists there as it does in PvE with these new dailies.
I am having this problem. They just won’t work.
Makovorn, those pictures are perfect examples of the two biggest problems with the camera. It is just in the wrong place for most people I have spoken to on this issue,, and for the reasons you describe. Obviously it should be an option to change it, and not another thing forced on people who don’t want a change.
If they could fix this and the collision jerkiness problems, they would have a camera nearly as good as every other camera in every other game I’ve ever played. And if they added scrolling in/out first person view, again like every other RPG ever, then I would feel okay about it, I think.
But I’ve nearly given up hope that anything substantial will be done with regard to the camera issues.
The trait system is absolutely horrible. I started a new guardian, in part to see what all the fuss was about and to see the NPE too, and in part because I was tired of looking at a norn.
It’s terrible. I have a level 80 guardian, so I thought I would notice any problems or benefits more by playing that profession. I had to wait for that inkeeper to start the chain to kill Lord Ignius just to get something really basic. I’m level 54 now and I can’t access Master traits. What?!
Now, I feel like have to go get some traits before I actually can access the Master tier. I’ve got some Adept traits I can stand, so I wanted to get Radiant Fire, Zealous Blade, or Powerful Blades. So now I have to go farther through the personal story, which is annoying to wait for a level 70 instance to get it, or I can go into WvW and befriend some other species?
I don’t know anything about that, and I have absolutely no desire to do WvW. And even if I did, I wouldn’t be concerned with winning the war, and so would be a liability to everyone else on the map. I did go and find the Hylek camp. Nothing was happening. We owned pretty much everything. I sat around for a few minutes, but got frustrated. I didn’t want to be there, I didn’t want to be waiting for something. I didn’t want to be PvPing. I usually don’t. It was not fun at all.
This is terrible, and it limits what I can do, and what I feel like I need to spend my time doing. This is not playing the way I want. I know most games say that in the hype interviews before release, but with Guild Wars, I’ve always felt it was the case. No longer. I have to go do things I don’t want to do just to be able to have access to the things I want, that I’ve used for years. It’s horrible design. It’s obviously horrible design. Maybe if there were more freedom in how to unlock traits, but as it stands, it is just intensely frustrating.
I’ve told more than one person that this is the best MMO I’ve ever played, and bought the game for some of them to try. Some of them stayed. I know one person doesn’t make a big difference, but word of mouth is powerful, and a few thousand people like me make a difference. The gameplay is still the best I’ve ever seen.
I’ve complained about the camera since before release. But I’ve almost gotten used to it, now. But this too? These seem like things that anyone who actually plays the game would understand immediately are a terrible idea.
Now I’ve heard the best part of the personal story has been removed. I still love this game, but it seems clear to me that each feature update is making the game worse, and removing freedoms. I know it’s just a game, but still it makes me sad.
(edited by Leodious.5671)
Yes. I am having the same happen to me. As soon as I hit 29, experience went to a crawl. I got 8 experience for a Vista. 100ish for a couple of big events, less for others.
It was very disconcerting. It must be a bug.
As long as the changes include being able to search for armor of a certain type, say, just the cloth items, and other like sifting, I’ll be happy. Probably.
I want first person camera. I don’t care if it’s broken or not or if I don’t “get a feeling for my character”, I only want to use it in PvE anyways. You could also add a way to see parts of your body, even if you’re in first person mode, just like the most FPS games have (speaking of legs, chest, arms, weapons and such).
On a side note: In the glorious “Real Life”, I’m bound to use first person camera and I think I have a good feeling for my “character”.
The first person mode doesn’t has to be perfect. I just want to use it to explore the world on a new level.
This is the single most important thing I want to see in the game, and we know there is a perfectly usable first-person camera that has already been implemented in the code. Even better would be the ability to simply scroll into our character’s head. You could allow us to dolly closer to our characters, and vanish the character when it gets to a certain point. This is so basic, it still baffles me to think it is not in the game.
I also would like to agree with the suggestion to, as we can move the camera position horizontally, it would be nice if we could move the camera vertically. And the ability to move both farther in either direction than is currently possible would be wonderful as well. Currently, I absolutely hate the camera position for norn and asura characters. A little latitude would make me more comfortable in their skins.
And of course, the ability to change the field of view would be wonderful also. That is becoming more and more common, and some people have some serious problems with fields of view that feel wrong to them. I don’t understand that, and I don’t know how prevalent that problem is, but anything that helps people is welcome.
But, everything, absolutely everything, pales in comparison to the need for a first-person camera.
Firstly I want to thank all of you for very clear and well thought out constructive feedback it is always a pleasure interacting with players.
Secondly I would like to reiterate that me posting on this thread does not mean that changes to the camera will or will not happen either now or in the future of GW2 development. Please assume everything in this post is purely hypothetical.
I know that your being here is a not a guarantee of these things being done, but simply the fact that you are speaking with us on the issue means a very great deal. This is the first time I’ve ever seen anyone from ArenaNet communicate rationally with players about this issues. Or the first time since this, and that is absolutely wonderful. Just knowing that someone at the company has heard and seems to care what we think.
(edited by Leodious.5671)
I totally agree. I had to read it a couple of times to be sure I was understanding it correctly. It seems to go directly counter to the rest of the changes. I’m not sure how big a deal it is, but I always thought that way of learning skills was cool, and made sense. You don’t just know how to use a weapon to best effect when you first pick it up. You gradually learn how to use it, to understand it. This is true in the real world, too. Things that are logically consistent are usually better, to my mind.
I agree. I think profession loot is a terrible idea. But having the option to turn it on could be a good thing, for those who want that.
This is not a feature patch, most of the things announced are simply fix wanted from community since 2 years (f.e. commander). Now i should wait other 6 months for class balancing and needed fix, meanwhile, no sab, no legendary, no class, no races,no pvp improvement….should i continue?
They are actually fixing things people want, and you are complaining?! Seriously?
Thank you, Anet. These are things people asked for, and you gave it to us. I know people complain about the lack of communication, and there are certainly still things that people want that have not been done, but there are probably reasons. You should still do those things. Make the effort. But thank you for doing what you have done.
We should be glad, and we should let the company know when they do things we actually like. More whining doesn’t accomplish anything.
I think we should do both. Give us a few topics the devs think are the most important, and we give our feedback on that list. Also let the players voice what we think is the most important, and have the devs give their feedback, and then have the players vote on what they want.
Of course, I think it also should be divided into two categories. Content /changes we want, and things we think are broken and need fixing.
This is an awesome idea. Different, sounds fun. It’s the kind of thing I like in games like Dungeon Defenders. I don’t know how difficult it would be to create, or how many people would enjoy such a thing, but it is a very cool idea. Something like this is much better than speed clears. I hate skipping mobs. It feels wrong. It feels like cheating.
That said, I do not support the devs working on anything else until the camera issues are fixed and we have access to first-person view.
But if they every do fix that, I think team wave defense is a very cool idea. They already have the mechanics to do waves, as just about every story instance has some waves, and so I’m sure they’ve worked that out.
All that said, this is a very different kind of map than exists in the game so far, and I’m not sure it’s something that fits with Anet’s plans. There are games where you can do something somewhat similar to this, though it isn’t as cool as this sounds like it would be.

Just pointing to this, maybe that helps some players to understand why Anet is struggling and why it is not really the developer’s fault. Pretty hard criticism towards the management and vision of the company. I just hope some of their managers actually read their company reviews.
I was pretty shocked to see they only have ~50 people… I thought Anet had like 300 people and had expectations for new features based on a 300 man strong team. Makes me appreciate the things that they do manage to pull off much more though, but also makes me a bit worried about the future.
Mostly, you’re wrong. http://www.glassdoor.com/Overview/Working-at-ArenaNet-EI_IE255820.11,19.htm.
Look at that main photo. A few more than 50 people. Also, do some research elsewhere. I am not sure why that website says they have 16-50 people, but that isn’t right.
I think most people are hitting the right points. I had basically given up on the forums a year ago or so. The reason is that we haven’t been getting any communication.
What we all want, and what I would be best for you as a company, for the bottom line as well as for the community, the game itself, and the relationship the company has with the players, is to tell us what high-level things you are thinking about, what long-term plans you have, what sorts of things you are working on, so that players can let you know if they are a good idea or not.
Most people aren’t on the forums, no. But this is a cross-section of different attitudes and desires, simply of those players who care enough to share them. If a large proportion of the forum population doesn’t like something, you can bet a similar proportion of the game population won’t like it. There will always be, as many others have said, jerks and complainers and just general hateful nasty people.
I really don’t think you should base your communication policy on the worst people in our community. You need to let people know what’s going on, because when you don’t let us know anything at all, as often as not, by the time we hear about it, and it is nearly finished, we don’t like it because there hasn’t been input. And then it’s too late to change it. It is not a policy that makes for creating and growing the game that the players want.
I love this world, and I love this game; I want what’s best for it. Keeping the people who love the game most in the dark is not the way to make the game better.
I would strongly prefer to return to Cantha.
But honestly, I’m not that picky. I just want some expansion of the playable land mass. We get some in dribs and drabs, and maybe that is how it is intended to be. As long as the end result is we get to go to the Ring of Fire, the Far Shiverpeaks, Cantha, Elona, the Desolation, somewhere. I want more land. I will always want more land. Give me all the content I can stomach.
Like in Skyrim: enable FPV by scrolling close. Checkbox no-FPV/yes-FPV in options menu would be very bad idea.
I would tend to agree with you, but first-person view is already implemented using this check box. I have seen it in the game engine itself. I therefore know it would require no extra work for them, because I have used it and I know that it works exactly the way i would expect a first person view to in an MMO.
If they did this, they would only have to add the warning message so players did not think first-person view was a good idea for combat.
If I had my personal preference, it would be for the camera and the first-person mode to function in the same way it does in literally every other MMO I’ve ever played. But that is not how the camera is designed in this game, so far as I can tell.
Having the check box would give the vast majority of players what they want, which is a way to take screenshots or do machinima without having their own character in the way of the shot. Obviously it isn’t as ideal or as elegant a solution as simply scrolling, and players might miss some opportunities because of the time it takes to make the selection, but there is a key advantage. The option I suggest is already in the code, and is therefore much more likely to be a realistic possibility. The devs have made it clear this is not a priority, and they don’t want to put a lot of work into making it function in the way that seems most natural to us. I would rather have the option at all, than ask for the perfect solution, and get nothing.
I would be happy if they kept it as a toggle option in the menu, and when you selected it, a pop-up appeared saying that first-person mode would put you at a disadvantage in combat, and that spell effects may not appear correctly (if that is indeed the case).
No one who wants first-person view wants it for combat (that I have heard of), and this would alert other players that it would be a bad idea to use it in combat.
I don’t think it is a big enough deal to need that sort of disclaimer, as dozens of games have allowed it, and there has never been an uproar about problems associated with it. But if Anet thinks it is a big enough problem, this will eliminate the need to support it for combat, which is currently their stated objection to it.
I want nothing in this game more than I want first-person view. There are a lot of people in this thread who agree. I wouldn’t use it for combat; I am well aware of the problems that would occur if I were to do so. I think the vast majority of people who want this feature also understand that using first-person view would be a terrible idea for any combat situation.
We do not want first-person view for combat.
We want first-person view for screenshots, machinima, and simply being able to enjoy the magnificent artwork. I want to be able to do something as simple as look up. I want to be able to take a picture of the landscape that isn’t what I can see while looking through a vista. I want to have the option to use something that I know already works in the engine, if not perfectly. We don’t want to run around in first-person view all the time. We want to look at the game environment in better detail. We want to walk up to a person and see them, and their armor and weapons, without having to do a ridiculous dance in which we walk past them and try to zoom to the right location.
We want something that is one of the most basic features of any MMO. Many other games allow first-person view, and people don’t seem to have any problem at all understanding when to use it, and when to zoom out to third-person. I had never even considered that until interview on norn in jumping puzzles. I don’t know how anyone would be confused about when first-person is a good option, and when third-person is needed. But we know people have managed to play other games and it hasn’t caused problems. I bring up other games not to say I want Guild Wars 2 to be like other games; I do not. But we know from these other games that having first-person view does not cause the sort of confusion you seem to say it will in the recent interview. People just are not quite that dense. They know when to zoom out and play. Please do not let combat be a concern for this feature.
I don’t think there is any single change that is simultaneously so easy to implement, so often and broadly requested, and that would make such a large improvement in the quality of life for so many players.
The game is beautiful. We want to be able to really look at it, sometimes, instead of our own backsides.
They had first person view in the beta, and it worked beautifully. Then they took it out, because it wasn’t polished enough.
The lack of first person view is the most terrible omission, and one of the only truly bad things about the game. The worst part is that I know they could do it, and have it function exactly as I want it to, exactly as it does in many other games, in which you simply move the camera to a certain position, and your character model turns invisible. It is very upsetting that this “unpolished” feature isn’t even available as an option for those who want it.
It doesn’t stop me from playing the game, which is wonderful in most other aspects, but I do lament the lack during every single play session. Every one.
They are easy to implement, and they would have huge benefits. For the life of me, I can’t figure out why this was not implemented at release. I would have thought that was an obvious thing to include in any AAA MMO. There are so many reasons to have custom chat channels, and really no reason not to. Have custom global channels opens up so many options for the game community. Such as simple thing that can do such wonderful things for a community is and should be expected.
There are several threads about this issue. And what might bother me most is that I have looked into this multiple times since release, and while I have found many players asking about this, I have never seen an ArenaNet employee respond. At this point, I would just like to know that they are even aware how people feel about this.

Hello, all.
Essentially, I am looking for a not-too-heavy roleplaying guild on Tarnished Coast that is active late in the night, for me (I’m on EST), around 10 p.m. to 3 a.m. server time most nights, especially weekends. The middle of the week is more up in the air for me usually, but Fri-Sun I am usually on regularly.
One thing that I am really looking for, and have not found, is a guild that uses the guild chat as in character chat that takes place in a guild hall or some other gathering place. While I don’t really mind roleplaying while walking around a city, and it certainly is important for some things, I much prefer to be playing the game actively while roleplaying, and a global chat channel to use as a gathering place allows for everyone to RP together while not necessarily being together, or while doing story missions and the like.
I also very much enjoy roleplaying, at least to a degree, while running dungeons and missions. When I am in the game world, I am usually in character, regardless of what I am doing.
I have played Guild Wars 1 and 2 since both were released, save for a time shortly after GW2 was released during which I could not play at all. I have yet to run any dungeons in Guild Wars 2, but am generally a decent to good player and learn quickly about combat roles and strategy. I tend to do best as a support character. I have an 80 warrior, which I don’t much play, and a 40something guardian, who I expect will be my main. I am also well acquainted with Tyrian lore, and adhere to what works with the canon rather strictly.
Thanks everyone for reading, and I hope I sound like a nice fit for some people out there.

This is incredibly important, both for roleplayers who want both IC and OOC chat, or who might want a global, non-guild restricted chat for roleplay while doing other things, and also for people who want to communicate with one another while representing other guilds.
Really, it should be a given that this sort of thing is available in a MMO, with the myriad social situations that might arise. We need it, and we need to at least know if it is being worked on, please.
I am having the same issue.
I can appear to stand down and represent the guild at will when in the Hoelbrak home instance or the Horncall Waypoint.
I can speak and be heard in guild chat when I am representing. All NPCs behave as if I have no guild, and I cannot access guild functions like the stash.
I do like the idea of giving elementalists and engineers a slot in their hero panel for a second weapon set, just like all other professions, but only let them swap weapons while out of combat. Same deal from a gameplay standpoint, but they don’t have fewer spaces to store gear, and having a hotkey for it would make it easier for them.
Certainly don’t let them change in combat, obviously, but letting them use the same equipped slots and hotkey to switch would be a good thing.

Mail already is account wide. I see no technical reason why this isn’t possible, except maybe a limitation with no differentiating names belonging to same account from those belonging to a different account.
I don’t know why someone would want this, but barring a technical limitation or a design philosophy on their part, this seems perfectly possible. Given that everything is account wide, I don’t see why this would be a real problem, and I can see how it would make interaction easier.
This is directly counter to the design intentions of this game, which have been long established. Many people fell in love with Guild Wars, and 2, because there wasn’t a ridiculous gear grind or treadmill in which people felt the need to get “the best gear.” Any system even remotely like what you describe would be cosmetic only.

I definitely do not want a trade function. Mandating that all trade happens through the Black Lion company means the market remains stable. We can still trade between trusted players (e.g., give my friend that awesome bow I just found) instantly from anywhere via mail.
This is a much better system.

I think it is more likely this is a bug and the skill should have caused you to rally. Unless you have done lots of testing on different undead mobs.
All good suggestions. Things like FOV and distance are often overlooked because most of us don’t have a problem, but for those people who do, it can be devastating.
What I personally feel the need for is a first person view. In every RPG like this ever, you can simply scroll the mousewheel into first person view, and out again. It is expected, it is simple, and it is a huge, huge quality of experience issue. Small room? First person solves many camera issues. What’s those explosions above you? First person view. Want to take a great landscape shot outside vistas? First person.
Please, please, please. More than custom channels, more than sitting in actual chairs like a civilized creature. More than directable emotes, I feel the need for this feature. Not that all of those aren’t very important too. Please.
