General

  • Fully customizable UI has been added, with scripting support for Ada, COBOL, and Fortran.
  • All fine and masterwork gear now comes in blister packs. Blister packs must be triple-clicked to open and have a chance to inflict bleeding.
  • All food items can now spoil. Spoilage rates are determined by the ingredients in the recipe.
  • Fixed a bug that prevented players from entering Super Adventure Box on live servers.
  • Due to the chaotic nature of magic, bloodstone dust no longer stacks.

World vs. World

  • Added the new Siege Reactivator trick, which reactivates siege equipment that has been disabled via the Siege Disabler trick.
  • Added the Super Siege Disabler trick, which prevents reactivation via the Siege Reactivator trick.

Structured Player vs. Player

  • Increased the size of all PvP badges while not in PvP.
  • Added retaliation to all target golems.

Fractals

  • In order to streamline the experience of Fractals of the Mists, every fractal has been replaced with Swampland.
  • Removed all terrain and environment assets from the Mossman encounter. Players will now engage the Mossman in a featureless, gray, circular room, and this is why we can’t have nice things.
  • Fixed a bug that allowed ascended boxes to drop from fractal daily chests.

Mystic Forge

  • Added toilet-flushing sound effect on use of the Mystic Forge.

Dungeons

  • All dungeons now penalize failure and have been darkened based on their difficulty. Dying in lighter dungeons will delete items or currency, but dying in the darkest ones will delete your character.

Profession Skills

Elementalist

  • Removed fire attunement.
  • Added dual keyboard support to better support proper elementalist key binding.

Dragonhunter

  • Now deals 50% bonus damage to dragons and their minions.
  • Aegis now ends after 5 attacks instead of 1 attack.

Scrapper

  • Now gains bonus items when salvaging.
  • Elixir X now uses a random skill from all skills, including monster skills.

Chronomancer

  • Fixed an exploit that allowed chronomancers to go back in time and kill their opponents in PvP before the match began.
  • Portal’s recharge has been removed, and the colors of the effects have been changed to blue and orange.

Necromancer

  • Death shroud can now only be activated from the downed state.
  • Scepter autoattacks now apply fear.

Revenant

  • Coalescence of Ruin: Increased damage, range, number of targets, and area of effect while in WvW.
  • Added a Kilroy Stonekin legend. All skills cause you to run at the closest enemy and scream “KILROY STONEKIN!”

Thief

  • Stealth no longer ends when you attack.
  • Steal now transfers ownership of a random weapon from your opponent to you.

Berserker

  • Fixed a bug that allowed warriors to get kills in Ranked PvP.
  • Hundred Blades: This skill’s number of attacks has been increased to 100 to properly match its name.

What did I miss ?

Well Grim, needless to say it was saddening. Many a person was broken this day.

I ask myself now,

Where are the days of yonder, where a man step’th into the gutter of the dungeon forums to feel his feet sink into the simpering ooze of stupidity and self righteous anger?
Where be’th the hour upon which the common scumbag elitists would unite to achieve but one goal, to taketh down the potato?
Where o’ where are the serenades, the chants, the lamentations of the just, the self important, the ‘moral’ brigade?
Where be the distinction that was so finely set in stone,
between the meta player and the casual?
Between the joke that is ‘morality’ in a video game and the font of reason that the toxic and vocal minority drink’th from?
Why doth now the oft poster care more for vanity than for the cause that is scumbaggery and entertainment?
Why is it, that we no longer descend into these fits of fancy? These chaotic, yet collaborated threads that bound on in a strong and sickening fashion until’th a moderator doth frantically shut it down?
Why now do thine threads carry on weakly, whimpering off into obscurity until a moderator puts them down out of pity? Without a word, like a whisper, out of sight, gone.
Be it that we no longer care? Long gone is the fire that once ignited within us at the mere mention of a bearbow?
Or be it that the bearbow himself is gone, purged from this hallowed ground of filth and obscenity?
Perhaps it be that we have long discarded our concerns for jest, for comradery and have instead turned to idolize ourselves?
Or perhaps, perhaps we have suffered enough.
A forum plastered with red ‘we care’ posts,
words as empty as a toxic nightmare husk,
the constant and never ending drone of ‘nerf zerk’, ‘I got kicked from x for playing how I want’ , ’I’m important and my opinions matter’… clawing at the last strands of our sanity..
Has this dog of a subforum taken the final kick? Or will it stand for more belting?
What will keep this mange ridden mutt alive?
What will keep the scum, filth and elitism coursing through its veins?
To that I say,
A Heart of Thorns.

General forum has always been a madhouse. Sadly the recent anti-zerker threads have
been a lot less entertaining.

Nike, teach me your secret to surviving this epidemic.

Well its fairly easy PvF because their position is one of complete ignorance and misunderstanding. Unlike arguing with someone on a truly debatable topic, they are simply 100% wrong. So this makes it fun to point out their logical lapses since there is 0% chance they can turn the tables on you.

There is a subgame of player vs moderator where you try to demonstrate your complete disdain for them without getting infracted for “being disrespectful.” I find there are certain dismissive terms that infuriate the nerf-zerker-crowd but pass by the moderator. Since I don’t want the game to get ruined I’ll refrain from mentioning them specifically.

I know who I am, do you know who you are?

I've redesigned the UI & the official website

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

amax.8034

Hi guys,

I’m a Senior UX UI designer and I’ve been playing GW2 since the betas, with long breaks in-between and since I’ve spent quite a lot of hours with this game, I’ve noticed some flaws in the games UX (user experience) and thus I decided to tackle it in order to diversify my portfolio. This lead me to redesigning some of the in-game UI’s & the official website.

About the project
The project started last summer, as I was redesigning my portfolio website, I wanted to take a break from my regular website design so I started redesigning the GW2 official website, since I missed working on a more creative & artsy website. This last holiday season I had a few days free so I decided to continue this project and tackle the in-game UI’s since I wasn’t really a fan of how some things were currently done.

What I’ve redesigned

  • Looking for Group Panel & the related tabs
  • Character Panel
  • Guild Tab
  • The Story Journal & the related tabs
  • Created a Lore Journal & related tabs

The Entire Design in PDF format – Horizontal layout

The Entire Design in JPG format – Vertical layout

Note
There are a lot of explanations that point out to different things & the reason behind my design decisions. The entire project took roughly 2-3 weeks, so It could be better, but unfortunately I don’t have access to actual game or player data and I kinda ran out of free time.

Hope you enjoy.

UPDATE:
Since some of you wanted to see how this would look in-game, I made a quick in-game prototype:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RUHYOEGKtJs

In case some of you are interested in seeing the behind the scenes process like the research, sketches, what I learned and so on, feel free to check out the link from my portfolio.

Reporting "Kick player" abuse (fotm/dungeons)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Saint.5647

Saint.5647

I wish the dev had implemented a “Refuse to kick” button, so the group has an option to cancel a kick request. That way I can protect the one being kicked for no good reasons, instead of trying to get rid of the kicker and cause confusion.

Upon requesting a kick, the entire party is transported into a new instance.

The party spawns in Court of the Mists. Here they are expected to quickly and quietly take their seats pending the beginning of a formal hearing. Each party member is called forth, one at a time, to give their account. They are then cross examined by the appointed representatives of each respective party member.

The Court adjourns for a period of 15 minutes before bringing out expert testimonies. These range from “LFG Griefers”, to “Dungeon Soloers”, to “Forum Personalities”. Following expert testimonies, a 10 minute recess is taken before the Court officially rules in favor of or against the proposed Kick.

The party is then held for an additional 30 minutes pending the processing of official paperwork. The party then takes an Asura Gate leaving the Court of the Mists, one at a time, each taking care to retrieve their personal belongings/gear from the security claim at the exit.

Since transport from the Court of the Mists is a Tyrian State funded gate, it takes 500% longer to load into the instance than normal. Upon their return to their instance, (plus or minus the proposed kick-ee), the party is left to reflect upon their actions and recent events.

They draw the logical conclusion that content should ideally be run with friends, Guildies, or not at all

Best choice for two eles in dungeon/fractal?

in Elementalist

Posted by: Purple Miku.7032

Purple Miku.7032

First of all after playing around I’ve found that it’s always best to use staff unless you need more defensive utility (blocks, condition cleanse) because you want to avoid swapping off of fire as much as possible.

Ideally with two eles, one of you two would be using LH due to the fact that every third hit on LH’s autoattack chain is a blast finisher, but it really depends on the circumstance because sometimes LH is a trash weapon depending on the encounter.

For staff the optimal build for DPS in fast groups is typically 66200 because of the fact that lots of speedclear groups deep freeze bosses (ice bow #5), and you can take Tempest Defense grandmaster trait for 20% more damage against stunned fows. If a boss isn’t deep freezed, the absolute best trait setup you can take along would be 64220. Otherwise, 62222 is an incredibly powerful getup but you’ll need signet of fire with only two trait points in air. Alternatively, 64202 is a versatile staff trait setup for pugs that’ll make it easier for people to blast in your lava fonts and make your meteor showers hit more.

For the D/F \ S/F ele that’s using LH, they’ll want to be using 66200 or possibly 66002 if they’re afraid of goofing up and will need more endurance from renewing stamina. The reason they don’t have as many trait point variations is because at least one ele should be using weak spot to contribute to vulnerability stacking on bosses (though with the recent glyph of storms buff and warrior mace offhand buff it isn’t as necessary now in groups). Along with that, it makes it much easier on an ele that isn’t using staff to have the fresh air trait so that they can always make sure they keep their +10% damage modifier in air after they are done with their might stacking rotations.

Staff traits:

6 (VI VII XI)
6 (VI VII XI)
2 (VI)
0
0

6 (VI VII XI)
4 (VI VII)
2 (VI)
2 (VI)
0

6 (VI VII XI)
2 (VI)
2 (VI)
2 (VI)
2 (V)

6 (VI VII XI)
4 (VI VII)
2 (VI)
0
2 (V)

D/F & S/F traits:

6 (V II XI)
6 (VI X XII)
2 (VI)
0
0

6 (V II XI)
6 (VI X XII)
0
0
2 (II)

Note: if you for whatever reason are not using LH for anything, swap out II in fire magic for VII or VI (I keep it on VII because internal fire isn’t very useful when I’m using air training).

Also with 100% scholar bonus uptime and permanent 25 might and fury, scholar is ~7% personal damage increase over strength runes, but strength runes ends up being better DPS provided you’re able to maintain 8 stacks of might or more with it. Scholar typically is the better set for staff eles because of the fact that they are very infrequently blasting themselves might and normally have to rely on the aid of others blasting in their lava fonts.

In fractals (especially levels 40 and 50 with the mistlock instability of agony ticking periodically while in combat) it’s very impractical to maintain 100% scholar uptime so it’s normally best, or at least much easier, for the ele to just use strength runes for there. In dungeons it’s pretty much always best to use scholar runes if the group is good.

Pick and choose what you want. :P

First off, hello Linybear, it’s very nice to see of you again <3
Second, hiiii Takuuuu o/ Where’s my cake

And now to the thievery part – my general concern is that … I kinda feel useless as a thief. Well, except for the blast this field for stealth and hide in my shadow refuge part. As a person who mains an ele, I’m used to do a lot of stuff and provide party wide support in the face of various boons, CC, projectiles destruction and reflects, conjures and last but not least the best tank EU (Earth ele). As a thief I feel … useless :< I want to exactly learn which utilities and traits are useful for the different encounters because personally to me, it doesn’t seem very useful to just swap out my power signet for smoke screen and the other way around.

And of course I’m full zerker kazul. c:

Might sound very silly as I’ve never had much experience but I’m willing to get carried learn. c: Thanks in advance, lovelies! <3

Sometimes we just sit in silence for hours. Not a word needs to be spoken.

He was such a hard worker up at PR&T Esoteric’s. He cared deeply about his work, and wasn’t afraid to stand up and fight when something threatened the company, like when Bleent’s crazy ooze experiment went awry. He was always friendly to passersby, offering help with PR&T’s products and showing genuine interest in their feedback. The locals in Akk Wilds more or less considered him to be the friendly, caring face of PR&T.

But then it all went wrong. PR&T cared far less for him than he did for them. They used him up and once he completed construction on his oozeshooters, they just kicked him to the curb like garbage. He was no longer useful to them — they had their product and had no need to further improve upon it, opting instead to simply push the half finished oozeshooters on their customers and turn a deaf ear to their complaints.

Alas, the oozeshooters had small, but easily correctable, defects. As a result the local wurm population dwindled, leaving the locals angry with PR&T. They lashed out at the company, demanding improvement, begging for support — to finish the oozeshooters that had so much potential. The company just ignored the complaints, instead focusing on oozeshooting competitions, sponsored endorsements, and cheap novelty oozeshooter knick-knacks.

Our brilliant friend could do nothing. Abandoned by the company he loved so, he spends his days keeping watch over the Akk Wilds. Remembering fondly days gone by, when he felt valued and appreciated. Reminiscing over lost opportunities to complete his masterpiece. Trying to forgive the cruel company that did not return his affections.

Somedays he finds peace helping out Parnna with her transfer chamber, or visiting Oola’s lab. I like those days, his face warms over with a satisfied smile and his bubbly personality infects all he meets.

Other days are darker, and he just stands outside PR&T in silence, his sorrowful thoughts known only to him. I try to just sit with him, trying to silently let him know his plight was appreciated. Reminding him that he is still legendary among the locals for his helpful and friendly service during his time at PR&T. Helping him cope with the devastation of the wurms that resulted from his half-finished masterpiece. No matter how I try, however, some days the pain just never leaves his face.

Today is one of those days. I hope tomorrow will be better.

GW2 Hard Mode

Hard Mode:

You enter the dungeon with four other players who have been selected by the game.

Setting One Let me tank this:
All your selected team mates are running PTV builds.

Setting Two My dps is better for long fights:
All your selected team mates are running full condition builds.

Setting Three It’s all about skill, not builds:
All selected team members are playing how they want. Bars filled with racial skills, GS mesmers bouncing around, flame-thrower engis, staff necros, hammer warriors, bowbears you name it.

Setting Four reminisce days past :
Magic find armour, weapons and accessories are now forcibly placed onto your entire team’s gear setups. All traits are removed.

Setting Five I can outheal all the damage and carry my party:
Your selected party members are in full Nomad’s gear.

Setting Six Prepare your kitten:
Your selected party members are graded to be more likely to be grouped with you based on the increased amount of times they have mentioned the following words and phrases in their forum posts and in game:

  • Toxic
  • I play how I want
  • Condition damage actually outdps’s Zerker in 5 man dungeons.
  • Everyone else in my party dies except me, I’m always the one ressing. That’s how I know my tank build is good.
  • Axe mainhand ranger is only 10% less DPS than the meta and it’s really strong.
  • Ranged DPS is good.
  • Check out my burning build, it’s amazing.
  • Elitism
  • I got kicked out of my group at the end of the dungeon and I don’t know why. It’s all a conspiracy hatched up by this toxic community to stop good people like me playing the game.
  • Nerf zerker gear please.
  • Skipping is exploiting.
  • Using reflects is exploiting.
  • Using Zerker gear is exploiting.
  • I play the game the way it was intended
  • Stacking is exploiting.

Why are we still here? (or not)

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: dlonie.6547

dlonie.6547

Most of the regulars here have frequently expressed annoyance and irritation at how the game has been managed. Some of us still play, some of us don’t.

I think it’s safe to say that for most of us, dungeons are the most enjoyable part of the game. It’s also safe to say that this aspect of the game has been neglected since launch. There’ve been a few tweaks here and there, even one new path (at the expense of TAFU) when the LS was generous enough to meander into our realm. But for being 2 years into the game’s life, there really isn’t a whole lot to show for it. Worse, the people at ANet/NCSoft who used to regularly communicate with us and let us know that there might be more changes coming have been laid off (RIP Hrouda), likely due to a shift in focus by management (content —> gems). We have the same stale content we’ve mastered long ago, now the only “challenges” left are speed clears and soloing.

So, fellow dungeoneers, rather than just complaining and begging for new content (And, yes, I know I’m probably one of the biggest whiners on here), let’s discuss what things have been done right.

What keeps you here? Which aspects of the gameplay keep you engaged? What about the dungeons keeps you coming back? Is it even the game, or is it a social reason? Or perhaps just some personal desire to reach “the next level”, whatever that means to you (e.g. being able to solo, learn all classes, get every legendary, etc)?

On the other side of the coin, if you no longer actively play and just hang around the Dungeon subforum for the delightful, quirky atmosphere, what was the final straw that made you stop playing?

Aggression to players in teams unique to GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Tree.3916

Tree.3916

I’ve been wondering this for a long time. Decided to get others opinions on it.

Translation: when I post this gibberish in the dungeon subforum I get mocked so I’ll try again here. Hopefully a different group of people will give me the self-justification I feel I deserve.

Are there other games out there where a subset of players insist on making others play a specific way to the aggressive degree we experience it here in GW2?

Any game with gear progression / instanced content will have this. GW2 is one of the most pug friendly MMOs ever. The community in GW2 is pug friendly. Provided you can read the LFG description or write your own you will be able to find a group of whatever standard you desire.

I’ve played other lesser known games (not WoW) but I’ve never seen it to the degree where people are kicked from groups. Do other games have this that I’m just not familiar with? Perhaps it’s more common than I think? Why do we have this phenomenon?

Why do people kick? Because some people don’t read LFG. Some people have bad attitudes. Some people simply play so poorly that they bring the group down. A very small percent are kicked over trifling reasons and a shame that truly is, but it isn’t worth the ink spilt over it.

I would have thought that the lack of trinity, method of loot distribution and non-competitive aspect of PVE would encourage the complete opposite. Boy, is that wrong.

Let me help you understand. Money and time are interchangeable. If you have a lot of money, you can trade it for free time. If you have a ton of free time you can trade it for money. Everyone values their free time in some way. If my job asked me to work overtime on Saturday for some reason, I would expect additional compensation, because I value my free time on Saturday far more than my standard billing rate. Some people who work a minimum wage job or who have endless free time probably value their free time significantly less than I, or others. There are no doubt people who value their free time greater than I do.

So what’s the point? the point is, free time is a precious commodity and few people value it so little that they want to spend it with griefers, whether intentionally or not. Few want to spend it having frustrating, hair pulling experiences with people who clearly don’t give a single care about the grief and frustration their laziness or “creativity” makes. In the end, people don’t want their time wasted.

You show me that content in GW2 and I will reinstall this game right now. I’d love it if this game actually required skill.

Alright I’m back from google translator.

Maybe you should reflect on how that makes you feel and think about how the first guy in GW2 that was kicked for using the wrong build or gear felt as well

So how many FPS are we talking here?

… and the message that sent him on how to behave ingame. Intolerance didn’t start with play how I want people. If your being randomly abused by people, think of why that’s happening …

So what you’re telling me is.. We need to hunt down the first guy to ever treat a random PHIW’er badly.. and burn him at the stake for his actions. He caused a domino effect that is causing me grief today!

Grab your pitchforks boys, we’re gonna settle this once and for all. Elitists UNITE

I have had a recurring dream, and it refuses to go away. I stand in the doorway of a poorly lit room. It’s musky and smells of age old cologne and festering food that has been forgotten about. It’s filled with a few creaky leather chairs that rock back and forth methodically, within them decrepit people sit. Their eyes, framed in crows feet are glassy. Some of their mouths sit askew, their jaws loose on hinges worn away.

There’s a small window in one corner, its panes murky and fogged from years of neglect. A beam of pale light sifts through it and from time to time one of the inhabitants stares at it longingly. A clock ticks somewhere, a constant ‘flick, flick’ to maintain a room that is slowly creeping through the years.

One of the chairs groans, I turn to look at it. Within a lady sits, her face contorted. An arm like a withering branch is extended from the leathery confines of her seat. After a few moments a nurse swoops in from nowhere and places before the lady a tray. Upon it as if spawned from a portal to another world, a silver laptop rests.
‘Yes dear’
She croons
’It’s alright, I’m here… Yes, you want me to to log it in for you? That’s lovely dear.’
The lady in the chair begins to sway to and fro with furore,
‘Mhmm!! mhmm!! Toxic!’ she shrieks as she glares at the screen.
’ You don’t like what this man says about the berserker builds? I understand it’s ok.’ the nurse replies.
She leans over and begins to type carefully. Every so often the old woman nudges the nurse with a shaky leg and murmurs causing the nurse to tap one too many keys and typo. The nurse smiles and continues until the mumbling and bumping stops. She turns to check that the lady is satisfied with her contribution and then backs away.

As if a fire has ignited within this lady’s soul she sits up abruptly and smacks a bony finger down on the mouse keys.
Perhaps she is reliving her childhood within that very moment.
Perhaps as she brings her finger down on the ‘post reply’ button, she remembers something.
Perhaps, for just that moment…
She is alive again.
A tear peels down her cheek and she sinks back into her seat.
’I’ll always play how I want, always.’
‘Yes dear, I know dear.’
The nurse quietly plucks the laptop from the tray and dissipates from the room as the lady drifts back into her glassy eyed stupor. The light flickers in the window and outside somewhere a car sputters past. The clock ticks on.

There is a distinct lack of dead horse gifs. I will take this opportunity to rectify this
