Has anyone else noticed something strange behind her bookshelf thing? It looks like a tunnel.

Someone posted (I can’t find the post anymore found it) about how the house hadn’t fully loaded up for them when they approached it and they saw a cave behind the bookshelf. Also mentioned speculation on Taimi finding the cave, disappearing, and then our going in search after her. Seems like a possibility as to what may come.

That is interesting. My buddy showed me this while we were replaying the story last night. You just stand next to the book shelf and move your camera to try to look behind it. It looks like there is a carve out. I thought it could just be a rough wall, but every other piece of the wall (even behind objects) is smooth. So it has to be there for a reason?

The heroes of GW2 are the dragons. The only thing they’re trying to do is protect the world from the annoying pests like the humans asura and the other lot. They build stuff destroying forests and mountains and enslave plants. The human aliens multiplied like flies, the asura kept building stuff underground damaging the crust and the flows of magic with their stupid experiments. The charr keep polluting the air with thier stupid braziers 250 years ago and now even started building machines. As far as I see it, the human gods were jelly because the dragons were too powerful, that’s why they moved the humans on Tyria.

My bad, did I sound like a sect extremist?

Praise the Elder Dragons.

Wow… I’ve never thought of it from their point of view before.

I wonder what exactly causes them to wake up. It had to have something to do with magic. Maybe when the other races acquire too much, they wake up.

I’m no lore expert but the glaring error I see is 0AE – Human gods bring humans back to Tyria.

AE = After Exodus, I thought? Isn’t that when the human gods left?


I have the GoT first 3 seasons on DVD.. really need to get round to watching them.

Why do I think that sequence of events is true?
If the Doom of Valyria is the “awakening of Primordus before the one we are at now in gw2”, that is also the time the last giganticus lupicus were around. Specifically, “The Great Giants, known to scholars as giganticus lupicus, were a group of gigantic ancient races that walked Tyria long before modern records began. Their disappearance from the northern continent in about 10,000 BE coincides with the last rise of the Elder Dragons,1 and it is believed by the Durmand Priory that not only are they extinct in the northern regions, but the dragons were responsible for their extinction.” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Great_Giant) The time for this based on the Mouvelian calendar is 10,000 BE (before the exodus of the human gods in gw2).

The War of the Five Kings in asoiaf takes place about 400 years after The Doom of Valyria. Specifically, “The Doom of Valyria was a volcanic cataclysm that took place approximately four hundred years before the War of the Five Kings” (http://iceandfire.wikia.com/wiki/Doom_of_Valyria). This puts current time in asoiaf at about 9,600 BE. (still no humans in Valyria or anywhere close)

Next, the human gods bring back humans to Tyria in about 205 BE. Specifically, “Humans appear on the Tyrian continent.” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Timeline)

Next, the exodus happens in gw2 at 0 AE (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Timeline).

Finally, present time in gw2 is about 1327 AE (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Timeline).

Slightly before 10,000 BE – Primordus Awakens

What does the return of dragons to Tyria mean?
A Targaryen is back with dragons to take vengeance. Specifically about the Targaryen’s, “House Targaryen was one of the forty ancient noble houses known as dragonlords who ruled the Valyrian Freehold, a great empire spanning most of the eastern continent. They were traditionally not one of the most important of these families, however. Daenys the Dreamer, the daughter of the head of House Targaryen, Aenar, had visions of a cataclysm that would come over Valyria. Aenar led House Targaryen and their five dragons, including Balerion, to the westernmost outpost of Valyrian influence, the island of Dragonstone, off the east coast of Westeros. Twelve years later the Doom descended on the city of Valyria, leading to the collapse of the Freehold. The Targaryens were one of the few families to survive the destruction of their home and were the only dragonriders of Valyria to survive” (http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/House_Targaryen#Origins_and_Conquests). Basically, the Targareyans are furious that Primordus destroyed their old home (Valyria). Descendants of Daenerys and her 3 dragons who have survived the past 10,000 years (approximately) (after present day asoiaf) are coming back to Tyria to stop Primordus and take their vengeance.

Yup, Tyria is actually next to Valyria (http://awoiaf.westeros.org/index.php/Valyria). Particular notes of interest about Valyria:
-“A common racial characteristic among Valyrians appears to have been purple eyes and hair of silver-gold or platinum white.”
-“Valyria is said to still hold many treasures from before the Doom, such as Valyrian steel blades and items of magical power.”
-“Valyria was ruled by its dragonlords”
-“They were called dragonlords because they could ride and control dragons”
-“Dragons were discovered some five thousand years ago by the Valyrians in the Fourteen Flames, a ring of volcanoes on the Valyrian peninsula. The Valyrians mastered the art of raising dragons and used them as weapons of war to carve out a massive empire”
-“It was destroyed by a cataclysmic event known as the Doom of Valyria”

So, Valyrians have purple eyes. Arenanet added lots of knew purple eyes after gw2 released. Valyria contained items of magical power and general sorcery. This is also true of Tyria. Tyria was ruled by dragon lords who could ride and control dragons. Where were those dragons discovered? Valyria. Valyria was destroyed by “The Doom”.

What is the Doom of Valyria?
-“The Doom of Valyria is the name for the cataclysm of an unspecified nature that caused the collapse of the Valyrian Freehold which had, prior to the Doom, been prospering for 5,000 years.”
-“The cataclysm hit the Valyrian capital city Valyria, fragmenting the land surrounding the city into numerous smaller islands, creating the Smoking Sea between them. the Freehold was annihilated in a single night of fire and storm, with great earthquakes and volcanic eruptions laying waste to the empire.”

What could have caused the Doom?
Primordus – “Primordus was the first of the Elder Dragons to awaken in Tyria. Primordus’ original resting place was in a cavern deep underground, where it was assumed by the asura to simply be a statue emitting a high amount of magical energy.” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Primordus) Primordus’ characteristics are similar to fire, earthquakes, and volcanoes.
Primordus must have awakened, in turn destroying Valyria.

Did the Doom take place prior to the events of gw2? Or is that in the future?
I think the Doom took place way before the events of gw2. From the wiki on Primordus, “It is claimed in the book titled The Elder Dragons that Primordus’ previous awakening is the only one still known to history.” So, Primordus awoke, destroyed Valyria (including the humans), were defeated or put to sleep by something else, and were forgotten. Next, the human gods brought humans to Tyria (back? or new?). “the Six Gods arrived on the world and brought the humans with them, but from where is not known.” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Six_Human_Gods) Also, about the human gods: “Their age is also unknown, but it is known that the current pantheon as a whole is not the first, and that they have not been on Tyria as long as the Elder Dragons.” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Six_Human_Gods)

We’ve changed some events around! Tuesday night is WvW night, and Wednesday night is sPvP night. Guild missions are still on Thursday. These events start at 8:30 PM ET.

We also enjoy dungeons, fractals, and hunting for Poobadoo (well most of us, some try to save him).

Has anyone seen this bug? I was doing AC P3 last night, and upon entering the burrows room, I noticed there were trees everywhere. No one else in my party saw them, but I grabbed a few screenshots. I’ll post them as soon as I can, but I was just wondering if anyone else has experienced this bug? I’ve done this path hundreds of times, and I’ve never seen it before. It was quite funny.

Why was boon duration nerfed so badly? You guys left +45% bleed duration for condi classes, but you screwed over anyone who relied on boon duration for buffs. Now the max we can get is 20%…really?

A little healing when you use a heal skill or extra heals on allies isn’t enough to make up for the 25% boon duration that we’re now missing. A lot of people built for this in WvW – guardians and elementalists especially – and I fail to see how it was so OP that it needed such a massive nerf.

I agree. The build I used on my ele in WvW had 75% boon duration (without food). Now, the highest I can achieve is 50%. I was working on a guardian boon duration build as well. I don’t understand why this was nerfed so heavily. I really dislike this change.

Please introduce a boon duration runeset, scale up existing runesets’ boon duration, or make 2×2×2 viable again.

Anet forgot about GW1 players?

GW1 is an entirely different game. Game GW1 players do not ‘deserve’ rewards in GW2. It’s nice that they provided a link, but that’s because Anet chooses to.

If Anet released a Torment weapons in their gem shop in GW1, hey, I can understand.

But GW2 is an entirely different game and you shouldn’t be holding it as a leash to GW1.

Imagine a Gw3 is made and you can buy rng boxes for a shot at a twilight or sunrise skin because that’s the level of prestige that the torment weapons were for gw1 players.

Suggestion - Living Story Season meta reward?

Yeah I think this would cause a lot more uproar than it is now.

You’d have players who feel blindsided that they should have achieved the LS metas to get this bonus reward.

You have to inform the players first for the rewards before handing them out, not after.

I think the account bound skin is more than enough.

Yeah. I think the main issue with the account bound skin is some people have a bank row full of them that they’ll never use. I’d rather have a couple yellows than a skin sitting in my bank.

It could be completing metas or just doing the story instance. There could definitely be some confusion though if the rewards you would get at the end weren’t announced yet or were that release specific.

Maybe just letting players choose their rewards is enough. Something like “Would you like this skin? Or something else?”.

You could even drop the whole token thing. It would just know at “the end” how long you helped and how many releases you did and gave you a better reward without asking the user to choose x reward over y. Just throwing some ideas out there. :P

Suggestion - Living Story Season meta reward?

After the conclusion of the LS season 1, I was a little disappointed with “the final reward” (if it even is the final reward) (maybe we’ll get something in the march 18th patch?). After all of the major accomplishments we have participated in throughout the year, we get kind of disappointing rewards (going to be vague to avoid spoilers). I think one of the main reasons why the reward isn’t epic, is because not everyone has been around for the entire season of the LS. Why should everyone get an epic reward?

Maybe, we could have a season long meta reward (a meta meta reward? :o ). So let’s say there are 15 releases. Person A does 15/15 successfully (success could mean achieving that release’s meta, completing that release’s story instance, TBD). Person B does 7/15. Person C does just the last release.

I think it would be cool if Person A’s reward was more epic than Person B’s reward which was more epic than Person C’s reward.

As it stands now, the only thing Person A has that Person B and C don’t are some skins (that Person C can get if they are lucky from the RNG).

This idea didn’t come from I think we should have more rewards or I wouldn’t play. I would play it anyway. It’s just after doing all those great accomplishments (especially the last one), I doubt a hero would get rewarded with that amount of loot.

Specific idea:

Each release rewards a token. Players have the option to use the token for that release’s immediate reward if they wish (these rewards would be similar to the rewards we got in season 1 per release). Or, the player could save the token. At the end of the season (or even at the end of every release), there could be a token reward merchant so players could pick their rewards. 1 token could be worth a box of 2 yellows. 7 could be worth some obsidian shards, yellows, karma, and gold. 15 could be worth an ascended weapon. Obviously what the different amount of tokens would be worth could change. Basic idea: more epic loot for characters that have “saved” or participated in or had an effect on Tyria the longest.

This is a great idea. A new type (bosses or whatever) would be a blast.

Also I think the rewards aren’t bad. Silver and guaranteed rares are great. Changes at ascended and exotics plus currency where you can buy ascended and all kinds of other stuff is very nice.

Think of an MMO like a newspaper. Some people only read the comics. Some only want the sports page. Some like all the parts, but enjoy the local news the most, etc.

I think this is an excellent analogy. The problem though is with a newspaper, I get all the sections every day. If I don’t want to read the news ever, I can still check out the sports and cartoons sections every day. With GW2 living story releases (example this past release), if I don’t want to do HARD PvE content (but I love PvP and WvW and easy PvE), there’s nothing for me new to do in the patch. (Sure, I can farm the power cores, but then in order to benefit from the lair, I need ciphers which I can get ONLY from hard PvE content (marionette). ) (I’m not saying the marionette is hard for everyone, but it is MUCH harder for smaller servers that can’t even get the minimum numbers to show up)

I think this creates a lot of frustration for players. It has created some specifically for this patch, because there was a break from regular releases before that. Basically, if you don’t enjoy hard PvE content, you haven’t had anything new to do in a long time compared to the people that enjoy hard PvE content.

The Guardians [TG] is a large, mature multi-game gaming community with a rich, variegated history that was originally created for Star Wars Galaxies – currently we have multiple gaming divisions in different genres, including Guild Wars 2!

Login issues after 12/23 Build [merged]

Here are some instructions from the Guild Wars 2 Programming Team (bless ’em!) that should help resolve this issue for players who are experiencing it:

1. Locate your Guild Wars 2 shortcut

2. Right-click and select “Properties.”

3. In the “Target” line, after the string for your GW2.exe, add this string (after a space:
-assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com

Here is a correctly formatted example: “C:\Games\Guild Wars 2\GW2.exe” -assetsrv assetcdn.101.alternate.arenanetworks.com (there are no quotation marks on the added string)

4. Run Guild Wars 2.

5. Remove the added string afterwards. It no longer is needed once you have patched.

6. Please update this thread if you are continue having difficulties. When you post, let us know if you tried the VPN alternative as well as the added string in your Target line.

What if they made it so when a warrior was charging killshot and they had you targeted, some sort of tell was shown on your character? Kind of like heartseeker from LOTRO.

Ex: If a warrior targets you and activates killshot, a red dot (like a laser scope) or crosshairs appears on your character for the duration of the channel.

It might help in those situations when you can’t see the warrior in the mass of the zerg. /shrug just throwing it out there for funsies.

Not to involve myself in the forum warrioring, but IoJ/RUN guild, why are you exploiting and trebbing us at NE tower from your spawn?

its not actually an exploit, its placed in an area where siege can be placed. It may not work on all the borderlands but just maybe the green one. Across the path from the eastern vendors by the stone wall, theres an area there without a siege lock on it. Its not an exploit, an opportunistic move instead.

So it’s a map exploit then, just like the invuln areas. Thank you for the answer. It’s extremely sad that members of IoJ needs to resort to these kinds of things instead of actually fighting it out but I suppose you’re going to justify it to yourself one way or another.

No one really cares, at this point in the game… no one cares anymore.

I’ve never seen it used before so this is a first for me. I was genuinely surprised when I saw the treb shots coming out of spawn. Oh well.

Why do you not play sPvP?

TLDR: It’s not fun compared to the rest of the game.

A few themes:

All that gear I spent months grinding for, I can’t use. All the builds I’m good at, I can’t use (have to learn new ones).

It’s hard to learn how. How do you learn? Try a build in hot join. Can you play on the same team as your friends? If you’re lucky and there is no rebalancing.

What happens when you are learning in hot join and you don’t do well? You get trolled by the trolls from the other teams (or your own team :O).

I can make more gold doing dungeon runs.

Suggestions:

Allow us to use our armors/weps from other aspects of the game in sPvp. I’d love to be able to show off my legendary and ascended armor. (I think this is coming in the future?)

It is impossible to run certain builds with the limited stat combos available in sPvp. Have more variation and combos. Let’s have all the pieces of armor and jewelry all at a set tier (exotic?) so we can truly have diverse builds. That or have a way in game to teach us new builds. Example: each class has a preset of a couple meta builds for the newbies (like me) to try out and see what they like.

Allow party members to do hot join. There are some amazing pvpers in my guild. When I want to join them in hot join I just have to hope we all can get on the same team. Why can’t we join as a team? This just boggles my mind.

The worst thing that can happen in WvW from someone on another team is emote spam or blueprint spam. Meh that is aggravating but it is nothing compared to straight rude people typing in chat. This is insanely frustrating, especially for new people who are trying to learn. Don’t show chat from the other team like WvW.

The new money bonus for playing is nice. For vets who do well every game, it can probably be profitable by converting the glory to gold. For someone who is just learning, they aren’t getting anything near what they could be in PvE or WvW. Have sPvp gold/glory boosters for people under rank 10? It’s not like you can turn off ranking up.

Please more game modes. Another no brainer here.

Edit: I sPvp sometimes. It can be fun when the stars align (my guild mates are on my team, there are no trolls, I do well enough to earn a respectable amount of gold/glory, some new skins drop from chests I earn). There are just so many things that could be done to make it more fun.

Hi everyone. I’m upgrading my armor. I tried to salvage my leggings, but it won’t let me do it. The armor is crafted lvl 80 knight’s exotic armor that I put a superior rune of the monk in.

Is it because it is crafted? Or because it is knight’s? Or because I added a rune I can only get from a vendor?

EDIT: Nevermind. I remember I did not craft it. I got it from the WvW vendor. I don’t think you can salvage that armor. Oh wells. /shrug

Jewels do not have skins so this does not work for them. I also used this method to move my legendary.

They have said they were going to just remove MF from celestial gear. No sort of compensation.

I can. I have all the Celestial trinkets as well (plus a zerker amulet) and not only has the MF been simply removed from Celestial gear with no compensation but we’re also being prevented from re-specing.

Anet, this is terribly bad form. What couldn’t you at least give us the option to change?

Ohhhh I see. I thought they were removing MF from the combo, while still giving players with existing celestial items the option to pick a new combo (as they are one of the many items with MF in the combo).

According to the patch notes we should be able to double-click them and pick a new stat combo. It doesn’t sound like that is the actual case. They just removed the MF?

Thanks for all the info. I agree it’s a major issue :/. I don’t want to have to retrait in groups just because there are already condition users in there. At least it’s being worked on (or was 3 months ago :/).

This horse has been so viciously beaten it is less than dust at this point.

Technical limitations. The amount of stat tracking the servers would have to do would balloon out of proportion. Not going to happen.

Why is this different in other MMOs? Is it because of the stacking? The only other MMO I played extensively is LOTRO, and each skill had it’s own debuff. I guess they picked stacking instead of 1 per skill but then had to limit the stacking? (just curious)

Follow up question:

When there are bleeds on the target from multiple sources, which player’s damage is being done? Or is it both?

Example:

Player A puts 10 stacks of bleed for 10 seconds with 1000 condition damage. Player B then puts 2 stacks of bleed for 10 seconds with 500 condition damage.

Would Player A’s tick because their condition damage is higher? Or would Player B’s tick because their bleed was triggered last? Or would they both tick? I AM SO CONFUSED haha

I joined a random sPvp match the other day. There were 2 people from the same guild in the match on opposite teams. Person A was winning at the time like 400 to 0. Person B would let person A kill them, then respawn, then run back out to person A. This kept happening. I only caught the tail end of the match but it’s kind of obvious this was happening the whole time.

Is this against the rules?

Explanation is needed. My guild and I were doing some camp flipping in DR BL (or was it DH BL?) last night when the strangest thing happened. A zerg fell from the sky…

It was RIGHT after the new WvW build around 9:30-10 pm est. We started our camp flipping and got to NW supply camp. We killed all the npcs and were standing in the ring about to cap the camp. All of a sudden, people started yelling in mumble “invaders from the ramp!!” I didn’t even know there was a ramp at that camp. I said what ramp? Where are the invaders coming from? Then someone replied, “the sky.”

A huge zerg then proceeded to jump down from the tower thingy at that supply camp. It was hilarious. We were laughing sooooo hard in mumble. Very funny. Took us completely by surprise. I bet you all were laughing too, because we honestly had no clue anyone was up there, let alone that many people.

I went in to my first dungeon in full zerker’s and was wrecking mobs. I also kept getting downed, because I didn’t know the dungeon. This lead me to change my build until I learned the aspect of each dungeon. Therefore, the first few times I do a path of a dungeon, I use my safe build. Once I learn the mechanics, I can switch to my dps build.

The overall goal of the safe build is group utility while contributing dps and not dying.

Safe build:
P/P and SB – use P/P in single target situations or debuffing situations, SB for AoE situations

P/P – sustained single target dps, blinds on trash mobs (if group is weak, this helps immensely), stack vulnerability if there are uber dps machines in the group (as you will contribute more to group dps by stacking vulnerability for the crazy dps people compared with P/P)

SB – AoE weakness, AoE dps for trash mobs, cluster bomb for dps

0 – power is nice, but the traits aren’t very good for P/P
30 – V (helps with P/P damage), VI (provides a TON of hp), XI (extra dps for boss situations)
10 – V (more init is always nice) (this can be switched out if you have a different preference)
30 – II (might increases dps), IX (more init is great), X (extra heals is nice) can swap to XII as well for more init since you will be swapping weps a lot
0 – meh

Utilities will vary depending on the dungeon path, but generally it is smoke screen, blinding powder, shadow refuge, and thieves guild.

This build is great when combined with Valkyrie armor. For runes and jewelry I stack prec and vit where possible. Currently my build sits around 2k power (meh, want to increase), 19k health, 30% crit chance (meh, want to increase). I’m not finished with my jewelry though so I think I can reach 2500 power, 19k health, 40% crit. This does not include any buffs (or food or anything).

Again, this build is for dungeons your first time so you can take some hits and help the group (fractals too).

I feel you OP. I used to run a backstab build in PvE. Tons of fun, but skill points were impossible sometimes. The constant resetting is annoying. I used to time my elite (TG) when I needed to heal just so the mob wouldn’t reset. Even then, if I couldn’t dps quick enough, the mob would STILL reset if I needed to heal again (and TG wasn’t off cd yet). The part I have issue with is our class mechanic is countered by a game mechanic.

I recently switched to a P/D condition build to try dungeons/fractals, and the skill points are much easier to do. It stinks we have to change our play style just to counter a game mechanic. I’m not sure why having a 5 second pause before a mob resets would break anything…

I joined TG about a month ago, and I’m glad I did. There are a ton of things to do on various nights of the week. Multiple dungeon nights, wvw nights, random Mondays, and some special events that don’t happen weekly (fashion shows, ceremonies, etc.). While I would love to participate in all of these events, I don’t have the time. TG is full of all different kinds of players with expertise in many different areas. Casual, hardcore, and everyone in between!

Before we got to the final boss area, there were a few oozes and spiders left we did not kill. After she bugged, we went back and made sure we killed every mob in the path. We spent over 30 min trying to get her to reset. We tried killing all mobs, running all over the last room, and even killing her. Nothing worked. We eventually had to give up. Pretty disappointing.
