When a gaming company calls colored commander tags “big changes,” it’s pretty obvious what the problem is.

  • The megaserver nature of EoTM ensures it has no community.
  • No community means there’s no “team spirit.”
  • No team spirit means no one cares about winning or losing.
  • No one caring about winning or losing means 24/7 karma train.

EoTM’s massive failure is actually a great lesson on the importance of community. Of course Anet didn’t learn that when they used EoTM as a beta for megaservers.

-this is the kicker for me; there has been so little in terms of WvW growth outside of account-bound WXP and the Obsidian Sanctum arena.

You can’t even give them credit for these two things.

Devon Carver was ENORMOUSLY opposed to account-bound WXP when WXP first appeared. And the funny thing is that at the same time, things in PvE were shifting from soulbound to accountbound (gold, karma, if I recall correctly). Look how long it took for them to admit they were wrong!

And the Obsidian Sanctum exists only because of that dev who griefed the GvG and cause a MASSIVE uproar within the WvW community. Anet almost had no choice but to do something. Had that dev not done what he did, you can be pretty sure we wouldn’t have the Obsidian Sanctum today.

"Too many here: GTFO" = bad design

The main feature of the Boss Blitz is that you have to burn them down more or less simultaneously. Which means you can’t have one zerg going boss to boss — you must split up with a certain minimum number of people at each boss. That’s fine. No problem with that.

The problem is Boss upscaling means there’s a threshold where you can have too many people at a boss (the number I usually see is 15) and the boss becomes much stronger/tougher. If you pass that number, you’re likely hurting the team rather than helping. This leads to map chat GTFO wars.

Ideally, scaling should be done so that if a player has the same skill level as the average skill of the group, then the boss is killed in the same amount of time with or without that player. What we have now is way too far from the ideal, IMO.

More Grind, Fewer Rewards

People will play content with poor rewards if it’s fun (see WvW). This is not that content.

They rewarded people for stacking in season 1. They’re rewarding people for stacking in season 2. No difference.

Title says it all. The “private” is so that people won’t have be embarrassed about their low DPS: only you see it, and it can’t be linked in chat.

I’d like to know in a real world situation if my build/rotation for this or that fight is better or worse than my other build/rotation — this would be a nice QoL feature for that purpose.

If you can’t write a good story. Blow something up. Spectacularly.

Reminds me how racial skills are still bad even more than a year after the release.

This is working as intended as well. If they were good, people would feel conflicted between choosing a race they like or a racial skill they want to use, and I don’t think Anet wants that (justifiably IMO).

Can I make this clear!

False.

Ascended weaponary: +5% raw stat increase over exotics. That’s equivalent to a sigil of force, which people value at 2-3 gold on the TP. That’s significant enough for the devs to include traits that give +5% damage bonuses. And if you use power/precision/critical damage gear, that 5% is boosted significantly (I’ve seen anywhere from 10-15% increase being claimed) because of the synergy between these stats.

Ascended Armor: +2% defensive stat bonus is far less significant. But if you can take the opportunity to swap 2% of the defensive stats in other parts of your build for 2% more power/precision/critical damage stats then you’re again getting a boost bigger than the face value of 2%.

Infusion slots: Only Ascended gear has infusion slots. Currently, they can hold at most +5 stats each. I feel it is extremely likely Anet will use these slots as their next phase of vertical grind. The +5 will become +7, then +10, etc. If you don’t start your Ascended grind now, you’re going to be facing a much steeper one in the future (I’m guessing on the order of months).

I don’t think people care whether it’s reality or an alternate scenario or a dream or whatever: At this point, people are sick of seeing Scarlet anywhere, independent of whether the story makes sense or not.

… is being taken while you pound your head against Briar, failing to take it. It’s called tunnel vision.

It’s time to face the truth. WvW is the preferred PvP of GW2 players and sPvP will never become the esport that you want it to be.

WvW is simply more attractive to players.

  • If you want to run in a zerg anonymously, with no pressure to perform yet with feeling of accomplishment when you win (loot bags!), you can do that.
  • If you like to play for PPT, you can do that.
  • If you don’t care about PPT, but simply want your server do well when you personally are online, you can do that.
  • If you like siege, taking towers, or defending towers, you can do that.
  • If you like duels, solo roaming, small group roaming, GvG, you can do that.

The openness of the world attracts a wide variety of play styles, and that’s what people enjoy. Yet despite all our disparate play styles, we do all come together to help when watergate is being rushed by 10 golems, so there is some feeling of server cohesion/pride.

Finally, WvW is endgame content. You can satisfy a large number of your customer base without the constant pressure of creating new content that people will rush through and finish in a day.

It’s time to realize that WvW has become much more than you intended (merely a vehicle to move people towards sPvP). It’s time to take advantage of that because at some point, it will be too late.
