Don’t you think a male character with the Staff standing animation of Female Humans would look weird?
Nope.
I actually agree. Human female bow animations are cool. Greatsword too.
Looking to focus a lot more on PvP and looking for a guild that I can practice with I’m on the Stormbluff Isle server. I also like pve stuff but like I said I really need a guild that actually wants to make PvP teams for tpvp. Thanks for any response.
Another helpful hint is having arcane wave for the instant blast when you need it. You can use water 3 on yourself then blast finish for an easy heal.
Common Misconception: Ranger F# skills
You can still use them when downed even though they are not in the GUI. So yes, you can interrupt with your #2 skill and then wolf fear and then command the wolf to knock down your opponent then switch pets to something else and so on and so forth. (OP imo)As a Ranger I am downed by some players in one to two shots – I don’t find the downed abilities OP at all.
haha true true.
Why dont you use traits, gear and weapon??
Tip for you:
Ranger is OP and unkillable atm. Dont go PvP without Gear, Traits and Weapons.
No. A bad or distracted ranger is still very easy to kill still even with a bunker build playing a ranger and not totally sucking still involves extra micromanagement and dealing with less than stellar pet AI so a chunk of your damage. Experienced rangers or good players are needed for a ranger to be “unkillable” in s/tpvp. Imo.
Edit: For the sake of being on topic I will add couple more.
1. When in a fight try to stay aware of certain buffs and time your defense or offense early. Example, you see someone pop a haste buff they are probably going to burst you so get defensive quick. (Always try to have 1 dodge left at least). On the other hand if you see retaliation or protection go up stall your burst a few more seconds (however small the burst may be).
2. After capping a point hide near the point for a few moments to either ambush or distract people who were waiting for you to leave the point and recap it.

I tried it out for some hot join and it actually worked pretty well as long as you don’t stay on LB and be careful on when you use the signets to make the most impact. Love the hilt bash to maul, so fun.
Playing that ranger bunker correctly does not require much effort but losing all that damage and utility options balances it out. Tip, hit them with confusion and cover it. I know when I am playing one the confusion can really mess up that ranger. Part of what makes it so tough is all the auto evades in the attack skills, meaning confusion can really hurt. Also making sure they lose their regen buff. The regency is a lot of their survivability.
This game isn’t esports, nor does it hold official monthly tournaments like Guild Wars.
This is a MMORPG, this is Guild Wars 2… Most MMORPGS aren’t pvp heavy. Guild Wars 2 is no different than the rest of the MMORPGs out there. Its just the newest thing out right now.
Seriously should put your foot in your mouth, if you honestly think GW2 is like all the other MMORPGs out there you are just not playing it.
I’m so tired of seeing this same sad topic. The name of the game is GUILD wars 2. Find a great guild and if they actually are a great guild they will accept a ranger because most people with common sense know that a ranger can finish anything in the game that any “superior class” can and usually do it without taking a dirt nap. If they don’t want you you don’t want them.
I’m not saying the class is perfect, but for people in WvW chat to say “OMG, I got beat by a ranger” as some off handed insult is more of a testament to that person’s ignorance than the actual performance of the Ranger profession. There are quite a few rangers out there that aren’t that good and it tends to get the profession painted in a broad stroke as being bad. But when they face off against a good ranger, they’re going to be in for a big surprise. Consider yourself having a slight advantage as they aren’t taking you as seriously as they probably should. Make them regret that error.
Oh this a thousand times over. There are plenty of great rangers. You don’t hear from them usually because the time they put into truing explain advanced concepts to people who try to classify the professions into tiers but ignore the fact that the people behind each keyboard are usually not of the same skill level.
No matter how much in love these profession forum goers are with prominent members in any particular forum and think unless those people made a build every other build will suck. Lots of great rangers who will not share a build so others have to work harder to beat it. So when someone does start attacking thinking that since they are targeting a ranger they will win you can surprise them and not share the build, that way they become a little more scared to attack rangers.
tldr; make your own builds and ignore anyone saying any class sucks, the one that sucks is almost always the person behind the keyboard for their loser attitude.
1. Tengu – I have wanted to play one of these since GW1 (same with the Charr)
2. Dwarves – This would actually makes sense, the dwarves come up from underground to continue their war with the remaining elder dragons.
3. Largos – These are really neat a surprise from GW2. Would really love to learn more and possibly play them.
It isn’t hard, people are still learning how to manage their pets. Honestly, this is a huge factor is separating the good rangers from the bad ones. People tell me I should use drakes in wvw because canines get blown up. If my pet dies, it is my fault (most of the time, sometimes the pet gets a mind of its own) and I much prefer the team utility provided by a 5 man fear or immobilize than some chain lightning or crappy cone based attack.
Edit: And this isn’t a BM build at all.
This sums up the pet situation imo. Using the right pets with the right content and knowing that each pet can be more effective depending on your level of micromanagement is important in keeping that extra body alive and effective.
Using selfish versions pets like the lynx/jaguar in a dungeon is normally not good but using the jungle stalker or snow leopard can be more useful to a team, with might and chill respectively while still keeping the extra damage from cats while supporting the team.Using a drake or hound means you just robbed your team of higher total damage done.
Damage IS team utility, and the most important one in this game.
It just so happens that you have no option other than to rob your team of optimized damage by playing a class forced to bring smaller portions of its DPS to dungeons.
True but if sacrificing that DPS means that the team makes it through an encounter more safely and successfully I know the teams I play with would prefer a slightly slower successful run than anything that is rushed and full of pointless danger when we can go a little slower and make sure everything works. So while I understand why DPS is more valuable to some I am more interested in how a five man team can make any dungeon trivial with proper team work and role selection not just random glass cannons everywhere.
A cleric’s bunker build is quite useful for stalling and distracting enemies. I was recently trying this out and it has worked quite well so far.

I will Not Subject Myself Anymore to the Delusions, Lies and Manipulations toward any “Ranger update”
.
Sadly, many of you are still caught up in the Web.
Just stop. Those caught in the web are having fun and not whining about tiny tiny differences. I so need to block you.
It’s generally wise to at least be a little wary about things like this. Especially notorious explore paths that are often sold to the public after beating a particularly tough boss… However, I can also safely say that I have done plenty of LF1M and have yet to be kicked.
Way to use an instant negative mindset.
I play with my family at times. There is only four of us. We can do some dungeons with just the four of us, but sometimes we like to have that one extra. So we always advertise for LF1M for anyone that wishes to join us.
We are not mean or rude or troll anyone. We are a very friendly bunch, we just like to invite someone to fill that extra slot and maybe make a new friend in the process.
Don’t think everyone is out to get you just cause they are looking for one more.
How well does that 4 man work for you guys? Must be rough with the latest anti zerg patch. If you all need a 5th, I’m generally always available! I play pretty casually myself going to college and all… Don’t have any friends that play either. Love the game, but man can it get lonely..
Eh, the whole zerg thing never affected us really. We voice chat when we play together and know most of the fights already. So we are pretty good at staying alive and making the best of our resources. Just gotta learn to coordinate properly and work together and you’ll never have to worry about dying and zerg rezzing.
This a thousand times over. A friendly guild with a team using a chat program really makes the dungeons muh more fun and it is not too hard to skip out in a 5th member with good coordination.
Have you seen Hunger Games?
The first poor guy who died was the Ranger.
Are you forgetting the main character?
The terms pro and pve do not mesh well.
Just wait 2 days.
I would not call an effective elementalist play style a rotation. Much like the Ranger and especially the engineer, the ele usually has the right tool at any given time and can access it with ease for the most effective use. If you are playing ele just to spam cool downs no wonder you had no fun. I get a feeling we are just going to disagree on this one.
So, I love my Ranger despite the clear issues and will continue to use her. But I do want to level at least one other class to 80, problem is I’m having a hell of a time deciding on what class.
As Rangers that love well… Rangers. What other classes have you been able to enjoy most? I have tried all the casters and hate them, I also hated the Guardian. It seems to me that a Warrior might offer work out, I just want something as good at solo PvE as my Ranger.
I’ve played every class pretty extensively in PvP and a little bit in PvE.
For PvP:
- Ranger
- Necromancer
- Engineer
- Warrior
- Guardian
- Mesmer
- Thief
- Elementalist
For PvE:
- Ranger
- Guardian
- Engineer
- Warrior
- Necromancer
- Mesmer
- Thief
- Elementalist
The other classes are all pretty boring after playing Ranger, to be honest.
I disagree. I have leveled my Ranger to 80 a while ago and although I still play him I have found Elementalist to be very engaging and when played correctly very active and sturdy, like a ranger.
Other than that I would say try Necro. A lot of what I like about Ranger is having the pet around (I find that an extra body is great in pve). Eles have pets based on attunement and Necro clearly has plenty of extra bodies (their playstyle is not as active though). Good Luck.
Just a little irritating when a drunk person can sum up your feelings so well.
Hello I have been in a guild for a long time through GW1 and it’s great, but I would like to focus a bit more on spvp with the hope of winning tournaments. I have a really tough ranger and am still practicing with an ele but could really use more guidance as far is pvp is concerned. So I am looking for a 2nd guild to pvp with. WvW is also great thanks for any replies.
Probably well known but I met a few who did not know. If you take the trait in wilderness survival that gives vigor when you use healing skills, this will give you constant vigor buff while in the healing spring water field. Really useful for groups in pve and WvW.
Nice, where can I find this patch schedule?
Can someone quote a promise made by Anet for a release on the 15th? From what I read Jon said mid November that is not an actual date so if it’s not out tomorrow please do not say anything was promised by any date.
I was just about to ask about this. Isn’t the whole Lost Shores thing starting the 16th? I’m not sure what’s happening the 15. May our changes?
I hope but am not counting on it. That all might come at once in a big patch with The Lost Shores that would be my guess.
@bond that little dragon tooth+phoenix combo reminds me of one I loved to do in prophecies GW1, as an electronic I would tag the enemy with incendiary bonds and throw a fireball, the bonds would hit at the same time as the fireball, nice little burst. Ah nostalgia.
The trinity lives but in a different way. Instead of just letting everyone in the group come with whatever they want if you try to actually have designated roles for the members.
2 support, 1 control, 2 damage. This seems standard to me but variations as needed should work too. When I say two support members I mean players who are traited and geared for support(stacking healing power and boon duration). Same for the damage members they should be full damage and for control they need to be able to prevent the most damage possible, to me the best example of this is the control member uses an aoe slow and the other members can kite better.
This is a team and all parts should work to support each other. Coordinate buffs from the support characters and have the damage members monitoring condition stack upkeep. Teamwork makes the “non-trinity” work beautifully.
I had tried the same thing around your lvl and found that putting points into wilderness and nature magic to boost toughness and vitality so you are not nearly as squishy. This sacrifices the damage from marksmanship and skirmishing. In turn you are much tougher and get a few traits aimed at the greatsword. If you choose the nature magic major trait that grants 5%vitality as a bonus to power then the damage loss I s offset quite a bit. I don’t mind the lower damage but ymmv. I hope this was helpful.
So far I have not found any shoulder Armor that fits for the look I like. I really like the asymmetry of the Ranger Armor in GW1 and that’s really what I am looking for.
Melandru’s Stalker.
