Gandara
For me at least, the changes I want to see in WvW are improvements to Balance and Performance. I am not personally interested in more particle effects, more powercreep, more skill lag, more gimmicks etc.
Great to see more swords again
I do!
What’s “BALANCE”? Is that an LS achievement?
You’re not alone in this. I’ve been on Gandara since beta, and in spite of transfers and bandwagoning ($$$$$) ruining a lot of communities (thanks for that), we keep rebuilding and it still matters to many.
Communities, guilds, friends and enemies are what makes this game mode work. Any future solutions or changes should bear that in mind and encourage it, not seek to destroy or anonymise it.
Adding my little disappointed voice to the thread. I was all excited to get this skin and try it out… but oh my how “meh” it is. I really don’t feel this was as-advertised at all (chain-whip with no chain or whip, ok).
I don’t think it’s a bug or oversight unfortunately as a quick google shows the exact same complaints pretty much every time this weapon comes back to the gemstore.
Is it possible to get refunds?
Yeah it’s basically unplayable. You just start to have some fun then the lag/ping spikes kick in and you may as well be an NPC for all the responsiveness your character has.
I’m very surprised there have been this many reports and no response at all though. Surprised and disappointed.
EDIT TO ADD: I only recently returned and was starting to enjoy GW2 again but these issues have repeatedly made me close the game in disgust. It’s too frustrating. It’s also frustrating seeing so few anet posts in tech support (if you exclude “I cannot buy gems for money” of course).

Can I have an F3 toggle that makes my character go MEEPMEEP please? Seems fitting…
I really want to make the staff work in PvP but as mentioned elsewhere it is really lacking. Its only CC is via stealth which obviously it has no inherent access to. I tried a lot of builds around it and without SA and stealth utilities you have no means to support your team with anything.
So yeah, staff worked ok as long as I went into SA and used BP and SR, which to me is completely counterproductive to the idea of it – but at least I could help my teammates with resses and such.
I’d like to see some more utility on the staff itself – not the traits! It needs something in the way of boons (stability, resistance, protection) in order to give non-stealth sustain, also an AoE knockback (short range, not mega punt) for defensive team utility (this could flat out replace #3 with a higher ini cost, I’d happily swap another evade for more team support). Aaaaaand I’m in the camp of a Dark field on Dusk Strike for some lovely combos.
It’s a shame really, because it is a lot of fun
Nah it was my bad Ghostistyx, I read “PVP”. In which yes, Settlers p/p venomshare with lifeleech and interrupts is doable.
Sorry!
P/P settler venomshare works, trait for torment on interrupt, and use unload to apply a poison burst.
I played around with celestial p/p with both interrupt traits, not bad actually.
I like it a lot and what alchemyst said is also correct. However the staff isn’t quite.. it doesn’t quite work as it is.
I’d love to see a Dark field put on dusk strike – not a smoke field – for added sustain with life leech and a bit more group synergy.
I’m really liking that condi-transfer venom idea actually.
Same issue here.
kitten missed it… Same time next week? It may coax the FLEE Facecharge Suicide Leech Squad Crack Muppet Idiot Brigade of the Ancestors out of post-tournament hiding.
Add in a WvW reward track as well (similar to the PvP one) and we’re golden!
Yep I’m having big lag freezes that either then result in a flurry of “catch up” activity and usually me being dead on the floor, or it outright disconnects.
It’s the only game/application I’m having disconnect issues with.
Yeah it does a tiny evade, then the Moonwalk, then rubber-bands you. I can’t use this skill without getting a headache now.
Actually being able to turn off effects for:
1) Turn off other than self
2) Turn off other than party members
3) Turn off friendlies
Are all good options and have been used in many other games. Personally I’d love these options.
I’d like to give a big THANK YA MUCHLY! to FSP for bringing the fight, hard, to Gandara. The week and the following reset you guys pushed made for the most fun of the season. It’s a crying darn shame that any of that effort is besmirched by the actions of a few.
I was very meh entire season tbh (as were a lot of the original Gandarans due to the server stack) but your big push made us wake up and pay attention.
Good to know Ironvos, I could only speak for Gandarans.
Everyone on Gandara borderlands (Gandara side) are being routinely disconnected from the server, twice so far in the past 15 minutes.
Error code: 7:11:3:191:::101
For smallscale/solo p/d is basically it at the moment. Stealthy ranged condi-spam with a very easy rotation and hardly any risk. It’s boring as hell but there we go.
So much over reaction people are starting to sound like pve-ers “oh anet it’s not fair, it’s not fair”
The number of people exploiting is tiny, it’s having zero effect on your precious ppt.
If the sensitive players want to leave wvw due to a few deaths then we are better off without them.
Wonder if the hackers have achieved their tear quota for the week yet.
Just… wow.
I experienced this for the first time yesterday evening, on Gandara fighting on Abbadon’s Mouth borderlands (red).
If this is a glitch (like the bug you get when shadowstepping sometimes, when you end up inside the terrain) then Anet really needs to pull their finger out, as this bug has been in the game since beta. For me this bug has got better but I still experience it on rare occasions.
There was one instance of this though that made me wander if it was a hack rather than a glitch exploit. I was on the bridge near Greenbriar and was getting attacked by an enemy that I could not see or attack back. If they was under the ground, as many in chat were suggesting, I would have thought they would not be able to get me while I was on the bridge, as the ground beneath it should have put me out of their range, but it made no difference. So I am thinking it may be a hack of some kind.
If it is a hack I hope Anet can resolve this soon, as it is extremely frustrating and I can see it putting a lot of new WvWer’s off this part of the game completely.
I submitted a bug report for yesterday, but when you cannot see them or their name I do not hold much hope in it helping much, other than it highlighting the issue. But in case it does helps here are the details of my experience:
I was fighting near the Greenbriar tower (on Abbadon’s Mouth (red) borderland). I was attacked first by an invisible necro, due to wells appearing and getting hit by the ocassional fear. I was even stomped INSIDE greenbriar, while it was under our control, with no wholes in its defences, and with NPC’s nearby who did not react to any enemy player. I was then later attacked repeatedly by a heavy DPS specced thief while fighting the sentry and camp to the south east of greenbriar. I could tell from the attack sounds it was a dagger main hand thief and it was this player that attacked me on the bridge.
After a few defeats I submitted a bug report then changed borderlands. I returned a while later and they seemed to have gone.
To Anet: Please, if possible, can you give us some feedback on this, even if it’s just to say you are at least looking into it. If this is not resolved more and more idiots will start using this exploit/hack/glitch/whatever and eventually WvW will become unplayable and people will lose interest. I have seen it happen in a few games before, where cheaters where not dealt with and the player bases eventually plummeted. So this really needs to be fixed and fast, before it becomes a real problem.
Yeah I think you’re in the video mate.
Then I guess this person slipped and fell underground then accidentally chased several people (while underground) who accidentally ran into his/her daggers and sadly died. I bet all the while he/she was spamming /stuck to get out of that awful situation and felt horribly chagrined to accidentally kill so many fellow players.
Working as intended nods wisely.
This is like the Rift Conquest threads all over again….
lol.
Indeed, valk + wurm is a very nice boost in vitality to absorb those pesky conditions.
Major point is Traveler runes are obsolete for DD builds so Fleet Shadow may see some more love now so I have to agree with Dee Jay as 50% (it says 50 but is it 50 or just 33?) movement in stealth helps a ton in combat. I’m not saying strength runes suck I’m jut saying they are expensive atm so I may go with wurm for now :p I’m considering salvaging my old Valkyrie with the travel runes and out the money toward new valk gear and runes
It is only 33%.
*flips desk, kicks trash can, throws papers everywhere, tears pictures off of wall and throws around, lights laptop on fire and then room but first takes selfie
Srsly what is with people and the making me spit wine tonight!
They are on Gandara EU today. I guess they got free transfers.
I spat my wine lol, thanks mate.
The fact of the matter is, any request to nerf stealth for thief without suggesting adequate compensation for thief outside of the stealth mechanic will be, with good reason, criticized heavily by the thief community. If I use a stealth build on my thief, and my stealth suddenly becomes next to useless, then I really don’t have much left to do other than play another class.
I think too many non-thief players assume thieves “abuse” stealth because it’s way too powerful. The truth is, yes it’s strong, but we use it so much because it is really all we have. We don’t have easy access to stability, blocks, or invulnerability. Our healing is only adequate if we spec a GM in the SA trait line. Our condi removal is only decent if we at least put 2 points in the SA trait line. Come to think of it, there is one of the problems right there with the current state of thief balance. The best survival traits are all tied into one single trait line. Give us some traits that are worth their investment, or even operate correctly, in other trees, and you might see more diverse thief build that are less stealth reliant. I promise if stealth is just nerfed without compensation you’ll just see thief players roll other classes, and the thieves who stick around will just switch over to an evade based build, which non-thieves will complain about just as much (they already do on occasion).
Indeed. I already prefer to play using as little stealth as possible because I dislike “switching off” in the middle of a fight.
However with all the conditions flying around pure evasion builds really limit your gameplay and who you can and can’t pick a fight with (nothing to do with skill, just rock, paper, scissors). So if you want:
Now, since you decided you need at least a few of those you have now specced full SA for max stealth spam and also been gifted with extra might stacks, superb ST damage from nowhere (if it lands) and the ability to troll people incessantly if you so desire, (or just by accident because you need to condi-cleanse/regen/save a team member).
So any outright nerf to the stealth mechanic would require pretty much rebuilding the entire class and, as already mentioned, the resources needed to do this are pretty high, as you then have to take into consideration the interaction with other classes and rebalancing from the ground up.
I’ve found Wurm runes with Valk armour and some Fury stacking to make up for precision a good investment post-patch.
You are forgetting that the only reliable access to extra heals and condition removal for thieves are -on stealth-, terrible design but there we are.
If you nerf stealth without adjusting that with say, I dunno.. some form of GM trait in acro that deals with conditions, maybe? You’re just stripping the thief of its ability to defend itself.
This, with Sig of Malice and Assassin’s Reward is unkillable.
Simply untrue, at least in WvW.
Stackable CC is a terrible idea, full stop. The fact that avoidance measures are so unevenly distributed just makes it worse. Oh, and the lovely immobilise bug that you have to /dance to get out of.
You could have a point there Xiloquin. A tanky mesmer mate of mine went to res me last night and lost 3/4’s of his HP to a nearby flame turret that an engi had left behind. He was understandly like, WTF.
I’m in full Valk atm and normally run with food buffs too, after patch I feel like that’s making little difference, did everyone suddenly get glassier? I feel like everything is hitting me for shi loads and I get quite low hp much faster than pre patch.
You’re not alone, I noticed that right away using the same build from pre to post-patch. Others have noticed it too. It feels like somehow amidst all the changes to traits/runes/sigils/ferocity that something in defense got borked. OR base-line damage calculations on some skills is broken somehow as some tank warriors and guardians I play with have reported an increase in their ability damage.
Unfortunately due to having an incomplete combat log it’s next to impossible to parse and figure out what could have changed.
Well here is a neat list of what I feel are some of the big issues with GW2, exacerbated by the current patch and meta. This is also just a small selection of the complaints I have heard on TS repeatedly during WvW and why people are deciding to not bother until/IF some of these things get a look-see, or even an acknowledgement.
One hopes for reasonable further discussion. But then one is quite mad.
PS: Even Rift’s PvP and its shocking lack of development is looking sexier atm.
Edited to include my long-term pet-peeves of downed mechanic and combat log.

Well I personally really want the dagger and the sword, I just won’t pay 400g each for ’em.
But don’t underestimate that dagger, it’s one of the best-looking in the game and for ex-WAR players, it’s the most Witch Elf like dagger there is.
The condi-meta is definitively OP in WvW.
However the problems go a lot deeper than that. Conditions in and of themselves are not OP as such; stacking “soft” CC is ridiculous, armour, runes, sigils and food that allow condition damage to deal such big numbers and achieve max stacks and duration with little effort while the damage dealer is tanked to the eyeballs, is ridiculous.
What is also ridiculous is the fact that the condi meta is either godmode, or useless depending on the situation.
Thusly I can understand why condi users do NOT want it nerfed and can also understand why the recipients of uncleansable condi spam DO want it nerfed.
The entire condition system is broken, for everyone. We need to rethink it from the ground up.
That might make sense if there had been nerfs to survivability, but apparently the only nerfs were to direct damage so it doesn’t make much sense.
Hellooo!
I’ve been asking around and discovered other people have noticed this as well so figured I’d post here and see if I can find out more.
Basically since the patch I feel somehow way, way squishier than before. It’s like I’m running full zerk (I’m not) rather than the more balanced build I was using before and since the patch.
So has anybody else noticed this? Was something done to toughness somehow?
PS: This is via WvW.
I tried throwing my credit card at the screen just in case.
Alas, I still cannot give Anet my money.
BUMP for Blacktide!
In a perfect world we’d have the most even set of matches ever and also the most fun. Unfortunately this server stacking is a bit, well.. meh.
On Topic: Please consider some of these fine EU servers instead of Gandara for your primetime needs!
EDIT: All witch elves need to join my guild. That is all.
Shameless bump for AG!
HoB never said they were moving to Gandara.
On Topic: AG are good opponents, always – many old WAR friends/enemies over thar.
