I saw this recipe and I’m not as upset about having all these extra unused frames. Smart thinking by the devs.
There are a number of things holding this game back when it comes to dungeons that I have observed in my time doing them.
1- Blocked access to a large portion of dungeons. Arah is a good example of this. It requires a series of chain events to finally unlock it. This in turn requires a large group of people to do so and maintain it being open. The point of dungeons are to be a fun activity with friends. Not a waste because you have to be on at the right time when the dungeon is open because your server finally decided to open it or for that matter you spending a lot of your time you should be spending running the dungeon in just getting it open. That takes away from the fun of it really quickly.
2- No LFG tool. This hands down is my and many of the people I have played with’s number 1 beef with the way the game is going right now. Spamming LFG in map chat is really stupid and getting annoying very quickly. A LFG tool is something that is near required in MMOs these days and this game not having one is wasting peoples time and patients. People should be enjoying the dungeons and this game. Not be spamming map chat in a major city to get a group to finally go do the content they want to do. This is a number 1 item to be working on in my book going forward. Also don’t give me the go use that lfg website stuff. If a website has to be made for a feature that should be in game then something is very very wrong. That website is a dead give away that this should be a feature that should be worked on post haste.
3- Ease of access to different parts of the dungeon with waypoints. Killing a boss should mean a waypoint as way of a checkpoint for ease of getting back to where you were if you wipe/die.
4- Loot, loot, loot. Ok this is a bit misleading really. You are working on the loot system for dungeons and have come a long way since the beginning. But, lets consider what gets people into doing dungeons. It is the loot. Further more there is also an opportunity to add some items to the vendors to help with that. First is mini pets. Not every mini pet in the game needs to be tied to the gem store. Another idea is crafting mat bags. Tier 6 mats are required in large amounts for all higher end gear. Providing another method of getting them via the dungeons would be a great move and would help in making the markets easier for the average player to enter. Lodestones in some way too would help a lot.
Anyways these are my four main points for dungeons I have. Get these down and people would be doing dungeons more, people will get into dungeons easier and would greatly improve quality of live for all in this game.

Just tested it out myself. It is a do once and be done instance. Which is very very sad because it is a fun mini dungeon that should have been more like the Mad King dungeon. Good chest rewards. Selection of mats for the holiday to choose from. Resets at daily reset.
Beyond doing it for each race once there is really no point in ever doing them again.
He said you can make 2 if you play all 5 days. I quoted him and asked about what happens once Tixx makes it to LA because we had been told at that point all 5 mini dungeons would be open at that time. If they are that to me implies you can continue on to make the remaining 3.
You’ll have enough to make any two you’d like if you play all five days.
Yet, if I’m not mistaken once Tixx makes it to Lion’s Arch don’t all mini dungeons become available? Couldn’t you in fact continue on to get more then just 2 mini-pets made?
Stuffing will be more available once Tixx’s instance is open. As for the mini’s themselves not sure if they will be craftable in some way or gotten some way that isn’t the chest.
Cool effect, no pun intended. Personally I’m loving that there are skins outside the store that you can get. Got myself a toy staff and it works so well for the holidays and my character.
I thought they were very interesting as far as a drop from presents. Made me chuckle when I first saw that we are turning in these pieces of clothing as if were are returning an unwanted gift to the store to get something we want.
Further more love the toy skins. Sporting a toy staff now that I just love. Reminds me so much of christmas and the joy this time of year brings.
It is going to drop more often in the Tixx workshop instance as the event goes on. Right now it is a random drop from presents only.
Did the jumping puzzle here 5 times and succeeded 4 times. The easier path I found was the gingerbread man path. Either way it is a lot of fun to me and a just right challenge wise. The halloween jumping puzzle was really hard by comparison.
The only thing I wish is that the rewards at the end were a bit better. 3 presents isn’t that amazing after a while.
Part of the problem is that the Wintersday you know and love arrownin is a human holiday. We have 5 races now. How does a holiday about Grenth and Dwayna with their big fight between snowmen and grentches have do with Asura, Sylvari, Charr or Norn? Now mind you I think the Asura thing is going a bit far and a little too commercialized if you ask me, but how else you have a holiday that can be not about one race or the other? A holiday that is about the spirit of the season and not about a battle between 2 gods that I might add are becoming less and less involved with the world as a whole by the minute.
If you ask me this is the best way to do it. Minus the arrogant full of themselves Asura mind you. But, still probably the best way to go about doing it. Besides we don’t even know how the Humans are going to be celebrating their part of the holiday once we get to them in the series of events.
No patch here either. Just checked. Only thing I could think of happened is either you haven’t played for a while or were missing some files. But, even that I’m a little doubtful. I know Wintersday is on the way and I wouldn’t be surprised if there was a patch prior to it starting.
“I’m seeing too many posts about people’s upset feelings, conspiracy theories, and opinions and not enough actual constructive feedback.”
We all post constructive feedback. Our feedback is take it out. It is not our fault our feedback differs from yours.
It’s like if you wanted to build an observatory/mall in the middle of a swamp yet the swamp kept screwing up the foundation. Someone says the fix of “move the mall to solid ground, setup the observatory on the edge of the swamp” and the rest say that’s not constructive because it doesn’t fix the issue of setting up the mall/observatory combo in the swamp.
“Some people have long abandoned the concept of constructive critisism and openly embraced the lync mob mentality!”
Well, most people here feel what ANet did is the equivalent to selling us milk, delivering us orange juice, and telling us all sales are final on products so no refund. It’s kinda aggravating, is what I am getting at.
you’re wrong, the issue is not that your constructive critisism differs from ours, or well it doesnt differ from mine. I dont like that ascended gear has higher stats and you can see me saying that in the 10k+ threat in the first pages.
Its the way that critisism is being delivered that I have a problem with! using your swamp example, set up the mall at the edge of the swamp is perfect ! its what I am saying people should say but instead people are saying the people in charge of building the mall are liars because they promised us a mall which they didnt manage to build (before even giving them a chance to do anything about it!)
This is a case of the Customer stacking the deck prior to giving the company a chance. They come in with seeking only what they see as the answer to their problems and when presented with a different answer they get upset. See it all the time at my Tech Support job. Often it leads to upset customers, but that is the truth of it. You don’t go making up lies to the customer to make them happy. Especially not when large amounts of computer data is involved.
Everyone here might not like ArenaNet. Many may even hate them right now, though that is a strong word. But, coming in expecting a certain answer or things a certain way will just upset you more. Don’t come into the forums expecting to always get an answer. Don’t come into the forums expecting to get the answer you want. Expectations are terrible and coming in with them is the worst thing happening to this forum I think. Anyways my 2 coppers and thoughts on the matter.
I just want a one time event that returns the Lion’s Arch Fountain in all its glory. Maybe a Santa Claus like character that does it for everyone via a cut scene. That’s it. Everything else can be instanced and open to everyone throughout the event regardless of time you are on.
It was never clear if the Karka really came from “Bubbles” at all. All is known is that like a lot of creatures of the deep they are moving more in land. In fact I would imagine none of this would have happened if the Consortium didn’t decide to try to turn their island into a resort. Who knows what was the motive of the Karka to attack though. Remains a bit of a mystery other then that the Consortium did something to make them angry.
Additionally I want to add that if the Karka were driven from their home deep in the ocean like a lot of creatures have by “Bubbles” and they are this powerful as creatures what other ancient and more powerful races are down there?

Lionscout Tynul at Canach’s Folly sells it for 1000 karka shells. It is unique so you can only have 1
Mentioned this to those who finished the event on my overflow. Thought it was nice to see that reward could be gotten by others in another way other then the event.
I’m ok because I found the event challenging and fun. Are the rewards appeasing to me? No. They are nice to have, but for an event this size I had to take a step back and figure out why this was the case for me. The main reason why I feel this way about the reward and why I don’t see myself in the “bought” out category is because looking back at all the mobs that were killed during the entire event that I helped kill I got loot and xp from 2. Considering the number of mobs reached closer to 100 that isn’t good in my book. It makes me question the coding because this is not the first I’ve seen this happen and makes me see how people find these events not as rewarding.
As for the flip side of that why do I see the event as fun was because of the people I did it with. They had this attitude of not leaving people behind which I liked and said thank you when rezzed. Gratitude goes a long way into making one feel appreciated.
So, It really isn’t coming down to a social issue for me. The playerbase is a great playerbase. The issue lies in does one feel rewarded enough for the effort they put forward. Everyone I rezzed I got xp for and appreciated for. Every mob I helped kill I did not feel appreciated or like it mattered if I was there or not. I saw nothing for the effort.
Beyond that the game play was fun which is why I find myself leaning more towards it being a fun event, yet one that highlights a problem this game has which is rewarding for the effort.
Had a lot of fun with my zerg on the overflow. We did quite well as a team there. The problem I think doesn’t lie with the group events (lag and such does need fixing a lot though, but that is another thread.) the problem lies to me the rewards. I saw a good chunk of people with broken gear near the end and having some high repair bills because of it. Culling could be accounted to a lot of that because of how mobs weren’t always generating for everyone. As such I felt like if we as players are doing these massive group events then the reward should at least out weigh a full armor of repairs and that is at the very least. That or provide free repairs by an npc for a period of time. Just something I observed.
The other issue is also rewards and that is rewarding the player for helping take down a mob. During the whole event I never once got credit for a Champion or Veteran, yet I did a lot of damage to them. As such I got no xp or drops for most if not all the mobs during the event. Feels like the coding needs reworking for these massive events so that people can at least get something for taking down a large Champion or Veteran Mob.
I see a lot talk about Precursors and I think it isn’t so much there are these events you can get them at that it is the only way to get them. I feel sorry for everyone who could not be a part of the event or disconnected during the event. But, I have to wonder is it really that people are upset that they were in the event or that they want to be handed a precursor regardless because believe me that even of they gave everyone a chance those who still didn’t get one will still complain about those who did.
Everyone hates RNG. I do too, but if there were other methods outside of RNG then I believe there wouldn’t be much of a fuss about it.
Don’t see it as being sunshine and rainbows over there, but it does show how each forum has shifted when it comes to the view on the game. Here there are more vocal in the negative direction because this is the closest one can get to talking to ArenaNet directly. Reddit on the other hand is third party. There is no direct line to ArenaNet so it comes down to if you are frustrated you would not post there as you won’t get heard.
Which is the true view of the game? I have not figured that out because even in game I see a different side of things then here or reddit. I believe it is more coming down to which forum/place you are in that is shaping your view of the game. When in game and I forget about the forums here I actually have fun. I come here and I start thinking of the aspects that need changing that can be frustrating in the game. I go to reddit and I feel a little more level headed. Capable of analyzing the negative for what it is and still see how I can still have fun.
Anyways that is how I see it currently. Who knows what it will be like in a week or two.
To me I saw right off the bat how the Fractals will be annoying for the playerbase because of the levels. It should have never been that they are set to the lowest of the group, but the highest of the group. This whole levels thing is just frustrating for people who just want to go in and have fun. That is what a game should be after all, not a tool that others can make others feel bad because they aren’t on the same “level” as them
They need to do a pass on items to go into the collection slots. Ectoplasms, slivers, shards, passionfruit, passion flowers, karka shells, and many others
What struck me is the lack of items you can get off karma vendors. Would have loved to see some unique armor skins for the map that you can get via exotic armor sold by some karma vendors.
Hardest one since the halloween one, yet not as frustrating. I really enjoyed it. It took several tries, but a lot of fun. Two thumbs up for the designer
Would rather have it personal story instanced really. You get the lore and the story behind the event without so much lag. The even in LA was almost impossible for me to do because heals would no go off and neither would AOE abilities. Great idea to have these massive events. Bad to have the open world. The servers just can’t keep up with the number of mobs, abilities and players. It makes them actually not enjoyable. Further more if done personal story wise it allows it to be better displayed to the player plus available to those who can’t be on for these 1 time events.
Amazing, but bugged a lot. There are a number of other things I’m not a big fan of, but will keep them for other threads.
Same thing happened to us much higher in the map. Hammer got stuck in mid air. Then we had the DC bug where someone DCed and couldn’t rejoin us and the person who got blown off or in this gas blown up and then off ended on a different map then us. We couldn’t repawn him as such. What is worse is because of these bugs and others most of the group I was with said they don’t want to do this dungeon any more till it is fixed.
So what you are saying here is that they are buying an item from a vendor and putting it on the TP for higher? Are people really buying them for higher because if they are then they really have no clue that if can be purchased cheaper.
Not sure if intended to be sell-able on the TP, but if people are buying them at almost twice the price off of it then I don’t see it as being ArenaNets fault, but the fault of the buyer off the TP.
Addition: Want to also say I have done a bit of an experiment on these. They are selling very slowly off the TP. So again it appears most of the population knows they can get them from the vendor for cheaper, but someone is buying them off the TP.
These appear as well to be usable to get some kind of Commendation from a Captain Lyns in the Grant Piazza. But, she has not been added in as of yet.

This makes me want to post the full definition of "soon™ " from WOW. It really does fit here, but this would be ArenaNets trademarked version of it
Like a number of people I do question the shift in direction. I may not be an GW1 player, but it is a shift in direction for ArenaNet. Even so though I have to say I’m looking a bit forward to it. I have almost Full Exotics on my character. I just got done with Map Completion and Story Completion last night. I started asking myself what is there for me to do? Legendaries are great and all, but they are a long term goal. Not something I am expecting get done in a short time frame. So, I need something in between to keep my interest. That is where the new gear and dungeon come in. Something to work for in the middle while working on a Legendary.
The stats on the gear I can really live with. How much damage does 1 extra point of power at level 80 really get you? How about 5? People I think just see higher numbers and jump to ultimate conclusions as to how much of a difference of an effect it really does to your characters overall performance.
It’s 5 per stat on just a little ring. That is the smallest upgrade you’ll see. Every other piece is going to have larger upgrades and when you add it all up, it is statistically much better in every part of the game than Exotics. Other dungeons will be easier with Ascended gear, it will have an effect on WvWvW. Grinding DE’s will be easier with it. It’s time to hop on the treadmill or go. I’m choosing the latter.
Statistically yes. I’m not arguing that in any way. But, if you add all that gear up and it added only an additional 5 points of damage to your attacks then what does it really get? That is what I am getting at here. How much does 1 point more of Power really get you? How about 5? 10? 15? I can go on with this, but the last I checked there aren’t any exact numbers out there.
Don’t get me wrong you will see a performance increase with this gear. The question comes down to how much is it a performance increase because of gear and how much of that increase is simply a player getting better by learning the game? I’ve seen people in other MMOs concentrate on the numbers. Numbers mean nothing if you can’t use them properly and to your advantage.
The stats on the gear I can really live with. How much damage does 1 extra point of power at level 80 really get you? How about 5? People I think just see higher numbers and jump to ultimate conclusions as to how much of a difference of an effect it really does to your characters overall performance.
What I can’t get my head wrapped around is the gated content approach here. This wasn’t something I thought ArenaNet would go for. Agony is a gating mechanic. Plain and simple. Gate content in any game leads to elitism. I’ve seen it in a lot of mmos. Though there is no way to inspect someone in this game for gear if any of these items have unique models then you can guess what will happen. Then there is also the question of how does one get said gear? It really doesn’t reward skill, but grind instead. Grind dungeon A before getting enough for dungeon B and so forth. This is the WOW approach and they can get away with it as a subscription based game. It keeps the player interested thus bringing in more income for the company as they are playing longer. This is a Pay once and play Free game. There is no need to keep the player for long periods. They aren’t paying a subscription.
Not sure how I am feeling about Ascended Gear. On one hand I want a goal that I can reach and is going to give me as a player something to reach for. On the other hand I don’t want to see this as gear that is going to A: Split the community by those who have and those who don’t have this gear, B: Allows only the most skilled to achieve making them super rare, and C: Allow people to just steam roll WvWvW because their gear gives them that extra something, not saying stats but that slot option makes me wonder. I’m also further wondering how another tier of gear is going to do to this game, especially if the only way to get it is via this new dungeon. I would rather it be about the epic adventure. Not some grinding of a dungeon for tokens or gear drops. I think that is the problem with many MMO’s right now. How do you give the player the epic journey without the grind or without it feeling like a grind? That is the definite problem and one I have yet to see answered.
Additionally I would also like to add that I do hope the gear is amazing looking.

Sylvari Male Mesmer myself. I fell in love with how the class played during the Betas. Was a Charr Mesmer then. The play style just fits the way I like to play, which is playing with other people’s minds LOL. When it came to the Armor it came down to actually Faction armor. I went with the Vigil and I just love the look for the armor. It isn’t a robe/dress like a lot of the other armor. Its asymmetry works great for me. Would love though to see some more armors like it.
Edit: Just want to add it makes him look like he actually has abs as well which is a bonus to me really. Without it his stomach area is rather flat.

Doesn’t surprise me that Yak’s Bend is doing so well. I was on your server a couple weeks back doing some map locations to get those out of the way for map completion. Did it specifically because A- You were not fighting ET then (my home server) and B- Were doing well. I helped you out where I could and had fun. You guys have some pretty tight knit groups and good commanders that received my respect as a player.
I left though for 2 reasons: Family guild is on ET and I want to rebuild ET’s community after the fall. It is a great community and it saddens me to hear people are more worried about score in WvWvW then the community as a whole. Yes we are more casual now and can’t put many on the field, but we have fun and will put up a fight when it is called for.
Anyways wanted to give a thank you to everyone on ET who are still fighting and are wanting to build our server back up. Also to Yak’s Bend for showing me a good time when I was on your server. See you all in WvWvW, real life permitting.
