Was Razah meant to be Abaddon?

Trust me I don’t want to see a character back from death for no reason if they no longer have any rule in the story and have been used as the writer wanted to use them.

Not the first time a writer change his story. Mallyx was supposed to be dead but he is alive and he is not as powerful as Abaddon so there could be a chance he is still around like Mallyx.

Abaddon was already mad and wanted revenge don’t think being imprisoned and tortured for 1000 years will make you want to go back and be friends again with the people who caused it to you in the first place.

His story felt unfinished and there is many things that we don’t know about him like why he insist that the races of Tyria keep their magic and why he didn’t want the other gods to weaken it or take it away to the point he was ready to fight them for it and did he told the gods the reason but they decided to ignore it? We also didn’t hear his side of the story we only know the side of the other gods but is what they told us is the whole truth?

@Slowpokeking: Mordremoth’s plot suffered because they tried to make him unique, did not fulfill his potential for all the lead-ins they created, and rushed the main plot. They literally created a hundred bridges and used two – and not even fully at that, they began going down one bridge then they jumped over and went down another.

Mordremoth’s plot also sucked because they performed an obvious catering to the super-vocal minority of the GW2 community (“I wanna lead the Pact!” – done; “I wanna kill Trahearne!” – done; “I should have gotten saladbowl!” – done).

They can do this to any dragon and given the current writing team, where they have bad writers who know the plot and new writers who apparently don’t (if Leah Hoyer truly knew the lore then I doubt she would have written that blog post to make the Mordrem Guard sound so frightening due to uniqueness when _+EVERYTHING_+ that was presented – both in the story and in the blog – as why they’re so frightening THE RISEN HAD ALREADY DONE TENFOLD!), chances are the other dragons will suffer just as much.

IMO, the only way they can salvage the game’s story and lore at this point is by finding someone who knows the lore and knows how to write from the GW2 community.

no because it’s been proven that dragons are linked in pairs (Zhaitan Mordy, Primordus, Jormag, Bubs, Kralk), if Kralk is one of the next two then bubs has to be next, and he’s probably last…

This is still pure speculation. Zhaitan and Mordremoth were on opposite ends of The All, but nothing makes them “in pairs”.

Further, there’s no way to know that, should such pairing exist, that the opposites would be “the tops, the mids, the bottoms” or "complete opposite (e.g., middle to middle, top left to bottom right, and top right to bottom left).

This. Ten millions time THIS!
As a writer you don’t follow what the fans say, you write your own story and use your characters the way you planned to their full potential which these writers are not doing at all. The moment they start changing their story to what the fans want it become the fans story not Anet story.

Spirit Vale and Giant Man Fractal

So, we failed the first boss: The transparent boss of wipe and ended the raid for that day.
I ran around and saw an NPC to the left and my PC said a few dialogues.
First one was that the wall looks like human structure “but something feels off”. So, with that basis, our bandits are most likely human.
Second dialogue was of surprise that how can Pact airship parts be here when the soldiers came in by foot? So, obviously those parts were dragged there.
Third was a Charr NPC on the left side of the map that said that screams can be heard at night, a bright flash was seen, and chants can be heard.
Given the layout, and a few other information here and there, as well as Sabetha’s description. Our “bandits” are really CULT MEMBERS and Sabetha a sorcress!

What really got me interested was that those points have a connection towards the Giant Man Fractal! (The one where you use a hammer to unlock the giant). The environment is somewhat the same. There are Human there who are not supposed to be there, chanting and doing all weird stuff. This must to be that Fractal!

how about if you don’t agree or don’t like it, then just DONT HIT “post reply”. Just move on to another topic. No reason to come in here and take a poop.

So much negativity, so much off topic…. Please be respectful. GW2 has the best and most supportive community of players – but only when they want to be.

It is not about agreeing or disagreeing; It is about asking to add certain things which relate to certain sensitive matters to the game. Most people play games to relax their minds, and not involve themselves in political/religious/sexual orientation/other sensitive subjects; In short they want to just have fun, and seeing this will create issues where there is and should be none.

Having played WoW from vanilla to cat non stop before switching to GW I’ll say that this game will come off as either amazing or trash depending on your level acceptance of the game’s gemstore, lack of loot, and lack of endgame.

The game is beautiful but it’s driven by the gemstore (something they swore it wouldn’t be) I hope that now that they’ve switched focus to expansions they’ll return to the GW model and rewards will be earned in game and not from the store.

No sub is great, but it comes off as a FTP feel when you’re constantly reminded that new skins are now in the store!

I’d say play the game, take it slow and look around, then make up your own mind. Welcome!

They should just go F2P and push their gem store. Anet’s biggest problem is it does things in half measures. They have some kind of crazy hybrid between B2P and F2P. Plus they sell gold (so its P2W) and removed all the drops.

I don’t feel this is ok for any game let alone a classic like GW. I strongly disagree with the model so much that I refuse to buy the expansion.

Sorry OP, didn’t mean to rain on your parade. Some of the game play can be fun. You’ll probably have some fun before the frustration sets in. Good luck.

Gemstore? doesn’t that make it P2W?

There is no power up in the gem store. Just skins for armors and fun items.

Possible expansions and lore

In this xpac PLEASE do not give important events in the controls of the PC. Lore characters need these events to help with their build and giving it to a nameless adventure/hero is a waste because the PC is not part of the lore like these characters and will remain a nameless character who helped only.

Do not make the story revolve around the player, make it revolve around one main NPC if it makes you happy, but not some unknown adventure. It’s fine if they documented us as a hero who killed Zhaitan but that’s about it because we weren’t alone when that happened. Like why not Destiny’s Edge? Why us? We don’t even exist. We did not get to participate with out favorite characters nor did we see any new ones like we did in the Zhaitan arc.

The characters now are not well-developed because of the lack of diversity. The focus is on one thing instead of possible different events. Like for example, had they given the players an option to accompany Destiny’s Edge while the other NPC retrieved the eggs, it wouldn’t have mattered, but then it gave us the choice to see the story from different perspectives.

Secondly, Kasmeer and Marjory have been the focus of the story too much. If you want to make them a good main character, then please make them stop referring to us as “boss”, and making Marjory a gleamy eyed kid following us around. We need stronger characters, like come on.

People can hate Trahearne all they want but that does not change the fact that he is a lore character that needed these important events to build him up plus you can’t give these events to a nameless characters. In the Zhaitan arc he wasn’t there from the beginning but he was assisting us and it showed that the responsibility he took as “Leader of the Pact” changed him.

Did anet ever give a reason for the removal?

something about making the personal story less confusing to new players, but then they changed their stance to “it’s a bug” after everyone went up in arms about the story changes………..still don’t get it, if the story changes are a “bug”, why has it taken 2 MONTHS to fix it?

Some players guessing it’s to fit with the new leveling system. You open part of the story each 10 levels which means the story need to be 8 parts only for that.

My Greatest Fear Plotline

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

MVP.7961

I don’t get how this still hasn’t been fixed, or that atleast someone from Anet gives us a heads up on this matter…

I get why they removed the greatest fear part, they wanted the PS to be every 10 levels. This would have put the greatest fear part at lvl 70 together with forging the pact etc, which would’ve made that PS arch way to crowded (9 steps as opposed to the usual 5/6, though the level 80 arch has 10 steps so could have kept it anyway…). Why couldn’t they make an exception to the rule and split the 70/80 story into 70/75/80? By the time a player reaches level 70 he/she should be familiar enough with the game to not be confused by the sudden change of ‘every 10 levels’ to ‘every 5 levels’. To be fair no one with a normal IQ should ever get confused by such a change, no matter when and where it happens.

What I don’t understand AT ALL is why they flipped the old 72/80 part with the 80 part. Now that part makes no sense whatsoever and confuses both old and new players alike. If we knew Anet’s reasoning behind this we could help find a solution to make it work, but as it stands we don’t so all we can say is ‘revert back to the old sequence’.

Now if Anet were to unflip the current 70/80 arch, split the story into 70/75/80 and readd the greatest fear arch, it would look something like this:

  • Level 70: Forging the Pact – Fear 1 – Fear 2 – Fear 3 – Battle of FT – Fear ending
  • Level 75: Temple – Looking glass/Close the Eye – Eye Beholds – Starving/Estate – Osuary/Shipment – Further into Orr
  • Level 80: Order plan 1 – Plan 2 – Plan 3 – Corruption – Cathedral/Romke – Source
  • Victory or Death

6 story steps for each chapter put back in the normal order so everything makes sense and we get to enjoy the greatest fear story again (which I personally consider to be the best chapter in the PS). That’s like the best of both worlds!

I really hope this gets adressed in one way or another, because currently the last part of the PS is in a really sad state.

I seriously hope this is not the real reason behind the change which broke the story…but if it is they could just remove the lock they have put each 10 levels for the story and that should fix the problem for them. The story didn’t need a lock to begin with.

Housing wasn’t something Blizzard had planned from the beginning.

As far as i know Blizzard wanted to implement housing in the first years but at some
point they just stopped talking about it.

However its hard to google that now.

Ahh .. here :
http://i.wow.joystiq.com/2013/06/20/wow-archivist-paths-not-taken/

Believe it or not, player housing was briefly tested in alpha. Model viewers showed files going back to alpha in a folder called “playerhousing” (as shown below). Only human houses were ever designed. Blizzard also added a portal in Stormwind as an entrance to an instanced player housing area. An alpha blue poster named Katricia wrote, “Our current idea (which could change) is to extend the cities to have player housing neighborhoods. For example, in the canal area of Stormwind players can see a blue instance portal behind a large portcullis; this is the entrance to the player housing neighborhood in Stormwind.”

Why it was scrapped: Blizzard CMs and execs have commented on housing many times over the years. In 2004, Caydiem said housing is “a huge feature with a lot of dedicated time needed.” Blizzard “definitely wants to do” housing, but it is not a “soon after release” feature, but rather an “on the horizon” feature. Two years later, Nethaera said housing had “no ETA.” In 2008, Tom Chilton said, “It’s incredibly complex to do right and we’re not sure yet if it’s going to be the right thing for WoW in the long run. It has major implications for the game itself and again I wouldn’t go out of my way and say never but it’s not on the immediately of things to do.” More recently, Chilton did go out of his way and said “sometime after never.”

You have just posted why they had to leave the project and not rush it. Which means they did not add the system till they tested it with the player farm in Mist.

So .. we can give ANet also 8 more years to everything we want to have, because
they should not rush it ?

So you want them to rush and get us a broken system? No thanks.
I prefer them to present us with what they have when they feel it’s ready and in playable condition.

I have nothing against Anet. They gave me a good experience, but in my opinion, I do not approve of them removing good contents.

I did not say people never left WoW I said Blizzard made changes because MANY players asked for these changes like player housing and changing raids for them to solo for example.

How long did it take Blizzard to implement player housing ? 7 years or even 8 ?
Yeah .. Blizzard is so fast in implementing things .. i will never understand why that
game has sooo much more players than EQ2.

You talk like player housing is something that can be built in few days without tests and checking how it will effect the servers.

EQ2 had housing at release .. WoW didn’t had it ..

And else i only wanted to show that WoW is really not the game to take as a good
example if you want to point out tha another game is to slow at developement.

EQ2 : housing from start .. 3 expansions after 2 years
WoW housing after 7 years, 1 expansion after 2 years

Now if we look at the success from WoW compared to EQ2 and what they may have
earned more in money, thats simply very bad and slow developement while SOE did
a much better job with a much smaller team.

Any developer won’t know what the players want till they ask for it then they prepare the system for that.

Ever Quest may have got this suggested to them by the players way before that why they may have prepare it for Ever Quest 2.

Housing wasn’t something Blizzard had planned from the beginning.
When players wanted the ability to fly in WoW Vanilla (after getting it in Burning Crusade) the devs explained why they couldn’t (they didn’t have flying in mind when they build Vanilla you can find more about it on forums). I wouldn’t be surprised if housing had the same problem as flying.
In Mist of Pandaria they tested the housing system using the player farm. When there was no problem with it they decide the system is ready to use.

WoW may not be a good example but they know when to listen and use it as a bait from time to time to get the players back and that’s good tactic.

The best MMO out there is WoW and will be WoW for a long time.Just look at this article:

http://www.pcgamer.com/league-of-legends-has-made-almost-1-billion-in-microtransactions/

TLDR – the 4th most successfull game for 2014 by reveneu is WoW.Making $728 millions. For a 10 year old game it is still the most successfull MMO out there.People may love it or hate it but the money can’t lie.GW2 is a good game.I can’t denie that but it’s not the best MMO on the market.

Subscription numbers have slid dramatically over the past several years (although they recently enjoyed a bounce thanks to the future launch of Warlords of Draenor), but the spending on in-game items, which is all these numbers take into account—no subscription revenues, in other words—is way up: Its nine-month total is more than triple the $213 million it earned in all of 2013

Best does NOT equal most popular. Just look at popular music, and popular television. Manufactured mediocrity for the masses, and it gets lapped up. Marketing at its best, at least..

WoW may not be the best but they at least change the game to what the players want.

Don’t think the delay is from not wanting to admit they fouled up — if they fix this there will be a very vague statement in the release notes and that’s it. Just look at Gaile’s carefully worded comment from a month ago: story inconsistencies that may have been introduced

I’d guess either:

  • They really want to fix it, which means reworking art/voice assets, which means slow.
  • This just isn’t a priority.

The real ‘fix’ will be putting everything back to what it was. The story was clear and this change make no sense and they are not explaining to us why they felt the need to do it.

Players who were on the mission (they didn’t lose their progress with the patch) confirmed they were able to do it which means the files still ingame but not active. Removing that part of the story is a waste of resources and time.

Like all the changes which did not make any sense…

Why there was a need to:
-Snip-.

-Remove a whole story line(my greatest fear).

-Snip-

I may have missed other things but the point is removing (or unnecessary changes) for existing content is never a good idea. I think there may have been bugs with some of the things that have been removed but why remove instead of fixing them? It give you the feel that something have been broken or it is unfinished now.

For the five millionth time, the Greatest Fear story line was not removed, but it’s missing because of a bug, however, with all the changes made to the sequencing of the PS, correcting the issue isn’t some simple task. Nor is going in and fixing any bug when most systems are interrelated…you know, you fix one thing and it causes something else to break…that is what happens with great complexity. Not saying that at some point they “might” have to scrap the Greatest Fear portion because they’re unable to correcting sequence it and find a fix, but right now there are still numerous bugs from the feature pack…and every time changes are made it just makes it that much harder to find and fix the bugs, especially with non-reproduceable ones.

However, I’ve noticed that it seems a lot of people around here don’t have any patience, as if the world is going to end tomorrow and they want everything fixed yesterday.

I don’t think removing and changing chapters count as a ‘bug’.

My confusion is now complete. I have reached level 80 and thereby advanced to the “Temple of the Forgotten God”. Before I can go there though, I must meet with Trahearne at Fort Trinity. The Marshal greets me with a speech about the inconsolable Ceera and her husband Tonn, who gave his life for the Pact. I am told I cannot take this tragedy on my own shoulders – their sacrifice was needed (I am paraphrasing here).
I go “Huh? Who the heck is Tonn or Ceera?”. I have never met these people before, and now it seems I never will….
Moving on – Trahearne beckons me to a distant corner of the fort and bursts out: “It is now safe to show yourself”. Out pop Sayeh al’Rajihd, who I am politely introduced to. She says she is honoured to meet me (or something similar) and that she has heard a lot about me. I am confused, since I met her at the end of chapter 7 (I was confused then too since she said it was good to see me again, while I hadn’t met her at that point).
Sayeh and I go to the Temple of the Forgotten God, where we meet a Mouth and Eye of Zhaitan. I am astonished again at the idea of Zaitan having eyes and mouths, even though I killed one of those eyes in chapter 7.

I haven’t gone any further – at this point the plot holes are so glaring that I just don’t know how anyone can overlook them.

I have to ask. Are you one of the “new players” that they made these changes for in the first place? If so, I believe they did this to make the game less confusing, or so I think. If you are saying it’s confusing now, then I still have to ask Anet what justification did they use to make these changes?

I have never played a game where the developers removed parts they established for the story and said they did this to ‘help’ new players, this is not an excuse for what have been done. The story was fine there was nothing confusing till they did this.

Removing flavor from the game will only make it more boring.

The devs have been reviewing your feedback on the New Player Experience. While some bug fixes have already been made, the team will be making other updates in the future to address:

  • Plot holes and story inconsistencies that may have been introduced with story realignment

Please revert this horrible change. The story was fine as it is and there was no need for it. I stopped playing my story because of this.

If this change was done because of some players complaining (which I hope it is not and this is just a bug or something…) this will be ridiculous and it show how you have no respect for your own work. You don’t go back and change what it is already in the lore just because of some complaint.

This comment is HUGE double-edged sword after all the changes they’ve reverted from last week.

You say they have no respect for their work, which is why they changed the story missions. You say they shouldn’t listen to others just because they don’t like the story.

However, what does that say about them taking player input about all the changes they made with the NPE? A lot of players didn’t like the changes, and they even reverted some of them (like the levels that utility skills unlocked at). Should they stick to their guns, have respect for their work, and put the Elite unlock back up to level 40?

Listen, there’s a very delicate line to walk here, and you can’t go around plying that kind of mentality. Sometimes things work, sometimes they don’t. But either way, they should be listening to the player base. I don’t like the story changes either, but if they were never changed to begin with, we’d still have the majority voice being “the story sucks, god I hate it!” I’d rather see a dozen threads about wanting it fixed than a dozen threads about how kittenty the storyline is.

I’m only talking about the story not the other changes.

You will see many saying “the story sucks, god I hate it!” but that doesn’t mean you go and take a chunk from what it is already established in the lore just because of this.

They have to listen to the players if there is something that needs to be addressed but not when they complain just for the sake of complaining.

At this point, it doesn’t matter (as well as my other points). The question is: Is ANet truly listening (please, please, I hope you are!) and are they willing or even about to fix (preferably change back to the old version) the PS?

I seriously hope they are listening. The story is what kept me and others around here.

Okay, answers are needed.

Arenanet is basically saying : “We need everybody to play this game. We need your grandma, we want your babies, we even want your dog to play our game.”

There’s more truth to this than falsehood, though not for the implication the original poster uses.

AAA developers NEED large player bases to meet the expectations their publishers set. So yeah, they need to constantly attract more and more players. If their metrics were telling them too many people were quitting in those early levels, their publisher is going to say, “Fix it.”

And let’s face it… the biggest pool to draw from is from the “social games” crowd, and yeah, I’ll bet they WERE very confused and frustrated by those early levels. They probably DIDN’T know what to do with themselves when their skills changed upon picking up a bundle. They probably WERE confused by dodge mechanics, and those red triangles and blue chevrons all over their mini map. They probably DID feel overwhelmed by it all.

Now the question is… did they make the right fix? Are they wise to appeal to the “social games” crowd? That’s something that only time will tell.

The problem is that you can’t attract everyone, no matter how hard you try. That plants&zombies playing grandma is not going to play GW2 no matter how much you dumb it down. She’s just happy playing Plants&Zombies or Angrybirds. But everyone already playing the game has to suffer just for the very low possibility that they might attract that odd grandma or two. (nothing against grandma’s, just an example)

I think the smartest course of action is when a game company says "stop!, we attracted enough different types of players, let’s improve the game for those types of players we already have.

In your search to attract more and more types of players you will inevitably alienate your own playerbase. Finding the exact spot when this happens and avoid crossing it, is crucial. I think Arenanet went one step too far with this Feature Pack.

The problem here they are pushing away the players that have been with them from get go to get these ‘imaginary’ players.

All that broken because they are so worried about the new players even the story didn’t survive it.

If they did this because of players complain that will be very stupid thing.
You get praise from the other characters all the time and Trahearne got it like once. If players spend two minutes talking to the NPCs after completing the mission you can see that in their dialogue.
