One thing that is definitely going to work in ANets favor it the world stories. Every personal story essentially boils down to one of three plots (Orders). So ANet has the ability to have an event that will appeal to a massive amount of people, AND has a story behind it.
SWTOR wasn’t able to do this very well because each class had a different plot, and to that end, each plot had a decent number of different outcomes. GW2 is much more generalized outcomes that allow all of us to participate in the same world without feeling like we are removed from our own private actions.
I use the D/D version of this every now and again when I am in the mood for farming, or when I get one of those XP tokens and I see a field of creatures that people haven’t killed in awhile. Leveling speed goes through the roof.
TC, the rankings are based on adjusted values of winning and losing against other ranked servers. The game has been out for about three weeks, I recommend you wait a few more weeks before you claim the rankings are bogus. If JQ continues to do well against the three servers above them, as well as fight off any servers below them, they will go up in the rankings.
ArenaNet said they based these rankings starting September 1st, so it hasn’t even been two full weeks that they have used to compile these rankings. It will change. JQ will go up or down based on its continual performance, not based on single matches.
I have to disagree here.
I’d like to see the number of people in the queue. That is my complaint with queues. Do I like them? No. But I don’t want to have a time ticket just to play them though.
I wouldn’t be surprised if they had a de-spawn timer to prevent spamming of unfinished siege weapons.
But if they were finished, then I have no idea whey they would despawn it….
D/D elementalists can kill their enemies a lot quicker. And you don’t have to be in super close melee range, you can be at a decently safe distance and your moves will still hit. Additionally, dodge back a roll or two and you are safe again.
Use your utility slots to make yourself safe in melee range. Arcane Shield, for example, will deflect three hits, then explode on your enemy.
D/D is good for 1v1 only. As the enemies increase, the staff is exponentially better.
Or, just use the Lightning Hammer.
I agree with Hulka. Keep the events disabled until they find a better system.
Hell, I’d be ok if they said, “You get xp for farming dolyaks, but you can only do it once in a row. After that one attempt, you have to complete another daily PvP event before receiving credit for dolyak escorting again.”
That would be a great fix in my opinion.
Humans fight the Centaurs for way too long. But I hate the Charr capital city. Sylvari is kind of nice, but, ironically, a little too green for my tastes :P
Have yet to try either the Asura or the Norn.
I think the Trading Post has stabilized a lot from when it first came out.
I made 3g off a lucky gut purchase of bulk Jute Scraps which were selling for nearly 15c in the early days of the Trading Post. I sold those for 34c last weekend.
The key to the trading post is well known: buy low, sell high. The extra tidbit everyone doesn’t mention is: when selling, make sure you are making at least 15% of the sale value above what you paid for it – because that is how much it costs to sell on the Trading Post.
As Yaos cleverly said. There is a 5% listing fee, which everyone knows about.
Then there is a 10% tax taken from the SELLER when bought. (As opposed to a 10% tax taken from the BUYER which is what happens in real life)
So if you list 100 iron ore on the Trading post for 5c a piece, it would be listed for 500c. You pay 25c for listing it (5%) and when it sales, you pay an additional 50c (10%). So everything you sell has a 15% tax on it.
This is done, presumably, to prevent people from engaging in any kind of quick flipping of items as they would have to make at least 16% profit to actually make money.
Kicking someone from WvW who is AFK for 15 minutes is a good idea, one I hope they eventually implement.
But there are few and far between options for dealing with people who buy a second account just to clog up the queue of someone else. This kind of a thing is always much more of a problem when you don’t charge a monthly subscription.
The only way I can think of off the top of my head is to have them connect every account that uses a certain credit card and only allow 1 character on at a time. But then you run into the problem of husbands and wives, or really any family that play together.
For now, just use Report → Spam, then click Block.
But yes, a specific report would be great for Gold Spammers. And it would help Anet deal with them much quicker.
It is just how they made it.
They haven’t had much time to look into the classes yet, but if you keep bringing this up, they will eventually have to give it another look.
That being said, I don’t mind mist form so much, as it comes in handy as long as they don’t immediately begin to do the “FINISH THEM” move.
I use Spam.
Also, this should be expected in any new game. Every new (major) game has this problem, yet every development studio seems to ignore ways to combat the spam/gold selling until release.
As far as mail? I’m not sure.
But you can add someone to your ignore list by right clicking on their name and clicking the “Block” option. That will block in-game messages and any spam in all of the general chat channels.
I haven’t tested it with mail, so I don’t know if it works there.
Mail has a button in the bottom left corner of the “reading” portion of the mailbox window. If I remember right it looks like a triangle with a exclamation mark in the middle of it. Just like your emergency lights in your car.
I don’t think these are the full official forums. They are still getting some new servers and working on optimizing the ones they already have.
But, if they don’t do this, then yea, profession specific forums are a must.
Also, guildwars2guru.com is a great community.
Charr Warrior!
Warrior is a great starter profession, with great damage, and great survivability.
If you want to do a thief, then you may have to get used to much worse suvivability which hurts when the difficulty ramps up (level 5, 10, 20, 40) as mobs get smarter.
I’m not sure, but something that can help your PvP craving is joining whichever one is open (if any) and then once you are in that map, queuing for the one you want.
For example, you want to join Eternal Battlegrounds, so first check that queue. Then, if there is a queue, try to join one of the Borderlands instead. Once you get into a Borderland (which usually have a shorter queue) then queue up for the Eternal Battlegrounds.
Warrior is a really easy class to pick up, and I have always thought, a hard class to master. It will help you develop.
Guardians are almost exactly the same. They have a ton of variation, but are mostly easy to play as and not be obliterated. Additionally, they are helpful almost everywhere and can beat nearly anything solo.
Rangers are pretty simple, but not as useful as Guardians. They have high-DPS combined with medium survivability, which is boosted as they are a ranged-based class.
Staff Guardian is probably the best healer (although he can’t really help anyone who is being focused – no class can) and the Staff Water Elementalist is probably the second best.
Support wise, I think Guardian blows Elementalist out of the water, but that is just me…
They need to add it in.
It seems like every new game I play they forget to add these kinds of reporting tools for gold spammers.
Yea, I’m sure they will add it in a few months, but I wouldn’t expect it anytime soon. They have other things to worry about for now.
I’m not entirely sure.
I mean, if you don’t want the whole stable of pets you could just get rid of all the other ones that aren’t the one you wish to use… Try opening up the Pet menu and playing around with the interface.
I don’t think crafting in this game compares to SWG. But it is certainly better than most other themepark crafting is. Hope end-game crafting is relevant…
Well first we should start with a weapon, do you prefer any weapon set? I know Greatsword and either of the bows are considered good. Personally I’m a fan of the sword and torch.
