Legendary Weapons worth it?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Masaki.2153

First off, there’s nothing legendary about them. Especially when they can be bought for cold hard cash.

Given that, RNG is so unfriendly, those that have a more “legendary” commitment to the game are not anymore likely to have the mats, let alone precursor as someone who is completely casual about their play.

Legendaries are a carrot on a stick, all designed to get people to pay real money for instead of acquiring through their commitment to the game.

You will have much more fun playing the game, pretending they don’t exist than chasing after RNG.

My concern is that Anet are tredding down, yet again, more social engineering to force players and guilds to play the way Anet wants them to play. AoW 5, REALLY?

PvE guilds left out or sink gold into something they have no interest in is going to kill many, MANY guilds just out of being disheartened by the nudge in a direction they don’t play and being unrewarded because they choose not to play that game.

Sure, there will be other ways to get guild missions but this was a transparent and horrible way to start it.

It’s still there and still receiving posts.

and still no significant reply as that thread is the carpet and replies swept under it.

It would be funny to findout the chest are working as intended and that the core of the problem turns out to be that some players ARE in fact in a state of permanent DR by no fault of their own. Then again I doubt the developers would ever admit to this should it be the case.

I believe I’m in that group experienceing perma DR.

The only thing I’m getting is moldy bags in Orr. If I go anywhere, anywhere in the entire world, I get porus bones only. I don’t even grind any specific area repeatedly.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Masaki.2153

Basic economics.

Players get too much gold, value of gold decreases.

Value of gold decreases, value of gems decreases.

Value of gems decreases, cash shop prices have to be readjusted to match gold value.

OR

Anet finds places where gold is too readily available and reduces rewards from farming it.

Economy stays stable and the whole process listed above doesn’t have to happen.

Of course over the course of the games lifespan golds going to be more readily available anyway, but we’ll ignore that for now.

And again, of course they want you to buy gems from a business perspective, but controlling inflation is a bit more of a concern, especially with the global TP.

A moot argument when considering or factoring in purchased gold from the Gem Store.

Ergo, their is NO way for the economy of this game to ever be stable

Now, that’s what i call fair.

Plus, I thought that being in a guild would be all about the people, not the benefits

That’s a pretty stupid and naive point of view. So if the president of your company is caught committing some kind of fraud, you’re happy about losing your job because of something he did?

Why aren't Dyes account wide?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Masaki.2153

Masaki.2153

Because Chrystin Cox, Monetization Producer, person in charge of the gem store, and former employee of Nexon, made it that way. When Nexon acquired 15% of NCSofts stock and became a majority share holder, they put Mrs. Cox in charge of the GW2 gem store to protect their investment.

A couple weeks later, certain aspects of the game start changing, and not for the better. Mrs. Cox first announcement was to change the way dyes worked. They would no longer be unlocked across all characters on your account, but rather on individual characters. Furthermore, dyes were now soulbound. Unidentified dyes were still tradeable, but once you identified a dye, the dye was soulbound. At the exact same time this announcement was made, dye packs showed up in the gem store.

There was a massive backlash, and eventually Mrs. Cox caved in and compromised and allowed unidentified dyes to be tradeable. Later ANet “accidentally” increased the drop rate of unidentified dyes in an attempt to justify nerfing the drop rate to even lower than what it used to be.

Does anyone even buy dye packs? I’m curious as to whether this strategy worked or if its just making the game that much more unappealing.

Here’s the answere, 7 posts in people. It wont change.

Nope, they lost me when they announced new gear would be added AFTER the game was released, despite their previous promises that this wouldn’t be the case. Their cash shop tactics are pretty sinister as well.

In fact, I wont be buying any game that profits NC Soft after this. Cash shops should be about value, not a scam.

This.

I seriously just don’t understand how people don’t see what NC soft is doing exploiting
the desire for a legendary, while nerfing drops and selling gems to gold.

It’s sure easy enough to defend on Anets part to make money and that’s fine by me but they have milked all the fun out of every other aspect of the game fine tunning the scam legendarys are.

I think people would rather have a crafting recipe that included 500-1000tokens from every dungeon in the game than try the RNG method in the forge.

The clover thing has RNG, but it’s not THAT bad (1/3-1/5 chance).

If 4 rares of the appropriate weapon type gave you a 1/20 chance and 4 exotics have you a 1/10 chance, it would be ALOT more doable.

But at this time, I’m waiting for ANet to either increase drop rate OR implement the scavenger hunt they’ve been talking about.

There it is.

Now get off my thread. You serve no purpose

Apparently you not only don’t understand how an economy works but how an mmo economy works or more importantly in the mechanics of micro economics WHY this economy works the way it does.

Your looking for an answere or common ground on how to add precursors to the economy in a healthy way and there are ways, many many ways in fact. Quite a few for quite a while have been mentioned in the forums for months.

Anets response has made it (Acquisition of a preursor) the way it is and subsequent underlying market the way it is intentionally. Not only are they not listening to good ways to improve the ingame economy. They have taken a route that benefits them short term. Again, that’s not an accident.

Go learn something about markets and economy. Market making is what mmo’s with cash shops do. This one is a lot more aggressive than most

Maybe i dont know anything about mmo markets or the economy.

But what I DO know is thinking the worst and then proceeding to shove it down everyone’s throats serves ZERO beneficial purpose to those who wish to try and make things better.

So I ask you, if you believe so strongly, why the kitten are you here and why do you feel the need to push your beliefs onto people who CLEARLY don’t share them?

Dont even answer. Just go away.

I wont go away. I AM trying to help, you just don’t like the answere.

If you play the TP long enough, watch how they address the economy thorough patches and understand their impact you will see why things are the way they are.

I don’t fault Anet, they deserve to make money. but an informed consumer is an informed consumer. I hate seeing people spend the kind of money they do because they don’t understand.

I’m not suggesting you have spent money on gems in pursuit of the legendary but MANY are spending tonnes, individually.

Just like in the real world economy, I hate seeing people not know their being taken for a ride and helping them understand in each and every thread I can how their being taken for a ride.

The rates of Precursors is wrong, in some meaningfull way, I get that ( I could agree or disagree, depending on the direction of debate I were going to argue) and your beating a dead horse. They don’t want it to change, so your argument that your trying to be helpful falls on your own deaf ears when you don’t even undertand how or why it works the way it does.

If you don’t understand the economics of the game (RL, how they make money and incentives to keep that money flowing) or the TP (how it affects trade) then how on earth can you even propose a solution. You can’t. There, there’s what I’m trying to help you with.

You can make all the suggestions you want on how to save a drowning man, but if you can’t swim and don’t know CPR, it might as well be as helpfull as dancing naked in the moonlight to appease the gods to save his life.

In short, you can’t suggest how to fix something without knowing how it works.

I want a legendary as much as the next man. I wouldn’t see an increased rate in precursor drops as a problem. The rest of the mats required are pretty intense, but nothing that someone with a bit of time can’t invest in. Everything is obtainable.

I am not sure if I want the precursor rate to change, or not. On the one hand, I want my incinerator. On the other hand, I don’t want to walk in to Lion’s Arch and see every dagger user equipping it.

It’s a fine line, really. Legendary is supposed to be hard to get. But “hard to get” is subjective, I guess.

Right?

Thats why I think a drop rate keeping things between 2 and 400g is best. Raising that money is just about on par with building up your clovers, mats and obi shards Id say.

By your own OP and this bit, clearly you don’t understand what’s ruining the TP and causing inflation.

You mention Gold sellers. Let’s talk about gold buyers for a moment. Anet are a gold seller BTW.

There are not as many people who will buy gold from some gold factory as you would think. They will, for security reasons (if their smart) pay the retail premium to buy it from Anet. That’s first of all.

Anet sells gold to, thus creating their own economic uncertainty in the ingame economy with unchecked inflation unless they counter all that gold. Their not countering it, their encouraging it.

I seriously can’t believe that people still think that drop rates, RNG (lol RNG), Mystic Forge and Precursors are not being manipulated to the benefit of the cash shop directly.

Anet have no reason whatsoever to make it any other way. Drop a few random precursors here and there, keep legendaries out there for people to see and desire and make them impossibly random….voila…..cash to gems to gold……=Anet laughing all the way to the bank.

If your argument is that this will end up destroying the game, your right. However Anet will have pocketed more money than a multi-year running mmo that charges a sub by a long shot. By a long shot.

For every $180 spent in the cash shop, they hav covered the no sub/person and I have met people who have spent many hundreds, covering those who spent none.

Quite simply, cash grab.

Not to mention, for the amount of cash they are willing to take, they don’t seem at all interested in fixing, well, anything, beyond nerfing ways to progress without cash.

(read: you don’t think their in house economists have noticed the inflation in the TP?, and what are they doing about it, creating more inflation each time they nerf a mat drop, NOT AN ACCIDENT!)

ANet has officially stated that Legendary stats will be bumped to Ascended when Ascended weapons are introduced.

The entire purpose of pursuing a Legendary weapon is to obtain something that cannot be obtained through anything else but hard work and due diligence.

Legendary weapons can be purchased off of the TP…Gold can be purchased with gems which can be purchased with real $$$. Legendary weapons are no longer the product of hard work and due diligence, just who has money.

and, AND, when you add in (or in this case take out) “percieved” (lol percieved,) drops to insanely low likelyhoods, MONEY is the only thing Anet want you using to get that legendary.

I hope we ALL agree that doing 2/3 of the damage of another “similar” set with the same survivability is a HUGE differnce.

Which is why I said that it’s easily noticeable and why I vote/kick that person or leave immediately upon making it clear I wont carry someone else sporting MF

We’ve seen reports from players questioning the randomness of the drop mechanisms in GW2 and in particular asking if it’s been changed recently. This is not the case and we don’t think that the randomness mechanism is misbehaving, but we’re running some data to be sure there isn’t anything unexpected going on. So far nothing shows anything suspicious but we’ll keep gathering data and analyzing it. We’ve also created a thread where players can share with us their concrete data about any perceived strange drop behavior they encounter:

2. Concrete data? Are you kidding me, even as respectful as some of the hypothosis in math are in this thread, you KNOW no one can provide data on your drop system in any meaningful way as to proove anything.

3. Given 2, isnt the perception that players don’t feel lilke they are being rewarded enough in game when, essentially, pre lost shores they felt that at least, barring expected exploits, loot WAS better.

I will venture to say that it will get worse. They want you in the cash shop.

The less you can make ingame, the more likely you will open your wallet.

That’s not the case though, I won’t buy anything from the store if this is how things continue. Not like I do on a regular basis but I like buying skins and such, loot being at an all time low and no way decent way to make gold means no incentive to do anything. I don’t want to play the market, I don’t want to buy gold off the cash shop, I just want to play, and yeah that includes farming. I don’t mind farming, but apparently ANet does.. they think it’s some evil force yet we were allowed to do it for the entire duration of GW1.

It’s so obvious what they are doing I can’t believe they are actually doing it – and staying silent about it. Just low. They are only tarnishing their name more and more every week/month and it’s honestly just very sad to me to see my favorite company stoop to such levels. I am just an old GW fan though they don’t care about me, only the new demographic grinding away and most likely throwing money at the cash shop making things worse for people that don’t like being forced to pay a monthly fee, let’s face it this isn’t much different.

They nerf every possible farm but dungeons, further demolishing the population of tyria in general, not to mention fractals but they’ve admitted to that fail. What they haven’t admitted is they are trying to force players into the cash shop, and that will only leave a bad taste in everyones mouth. This will back fire, trust me. That’s why I’m not even mad about it simply disgusted, they’ll learn their lesson soon enough I’ve seen it happen tons with games and cash shops.

My disappointment in ANet and this game just keeps adding up, idk how much I can take.

All I know is I might be breaking off GW2 fo a while until this crap blows over.

It’s simple to see what has happened.

1. Increased Grind
2. DR
3. Decreased loot drops

all to force an impatient crowd into cash shop and at this point as difficult as they have made it to make gold, let alone get decent drops, they are figuring you will either stay and pay or leave.

One word for what’s happened…….Nexon

Yep, I agree ~ Its actually becoming quite comical that so many players on these forums are either so blind and in-denial that how serious a situation Guild Wars 2 is in right now.

I will give Nexon this, they know how to monotize a game. they just happen to be destroying this one in the process. NCSoft/Anet employees/devs must genuinely be disheartened to see their game be used this way and not to mention, unable to voice their displeasure. For that I feel very sorry for them.

I genuinely don’t believe this was the direction Anet wanted to take the game. But suits at NCSoft and Nexon got together and figured out how much they could make and be kitten the games lifespan.

all to force an impatient crowd into cash shop and at this point as difficult as they have made it to make gold, let alone get decent drops, they are figuring you will either stay and pay or leave.

One word for what’s happened…….Nexon

If I’m going to be forced into a gear grind to compete, I’d rather do it in a game that does gear grinds/dungeons/pvp better.

This game had one solid pro to outweigh what needed to be worked on, and they decided to toss that pro and ignore the broken content.

Feels too much like Nexon now.

Spot on. In 1 short week the game has emptied because of that feel.

LFG for fractals has even diminished.

Grind monkeys who burn through content have burned through it and, well, everyone else against the new gear tier are gone.

32 people on friends (that was always at least 75% present) and about the same who were “following” me at the same levels are at less than 5 in each over the past week.

Guild Wars 1 still exists, it is that way ->

Turning the game into a WoW clone is not making it unique. Gear treadmills are not unique. Gear checks are not unique. Being forced to run dungeons for the best gear so you can remain competitive in WvW is not unique.

Rather than trying to turn GW2 into WoW, instead of allowing it to follow in the footsteps of its successful predecessor and ACTUALLY be unique, why not play a WoW clone on the side and stop trying to destroy this game? It would be fun if the content locusts were to just play the game for itself instead of demanding more and more stats and content constantly, forcing Anet to push rushed attempts to appease them like this.

We bought the game knowing exactly what kind of game it was- the manifesto told us what it was. It’s the WoW fans who want to turn it into something else.

I played a mix yesterday and this prob wont make anyone happy.

Zones, champions, vets…..Mostly NO drops AT ALL.

2 “Levels” SERIOUSLY 2 Levels only of FoTM and I got 4 rares and 2 exotics in about an hour.

Anet, yeah, I see what you did there.

Thank you ArenaNet

If it’s true, PM me, I’d like to know how to get my money back.

What's up with having a 3 day event?

The three day event is a way to introduce all the reluctant WoW players that GW2 is indeed the new grind fest for them to play while they empty out the loyal fanbase to make room for fickle hamsters.

Honestly, at this point, since they are going to change their core principals to cater to fickle WoW gear grinders, I can’t wait to watch this come back and bite them.
