As the title says, reporting for insults, does it actually do anything?
I was recently infraction warned and my post deleted in a thread almost exactly like this one. I’ll try a different approach this time: be more specific in your post and there’s a lot of activity going on behind that curtian you’re asking questions about. Mainly that curtian has levels.
For example: Everyone, due to your lack of information to the question, is assuming at least one person is insulting you. I’ll take a different approach since you didn’t post any information about attacks to yourself that perhaps you got angry and insulted someone else and they claimed to have reported you. Not saying it’s true but there is zero information saying otherwise so, yea.
Okay, so you/that person is reported for being a potential meanie, ANet reviews the chat logs and decides the severity of the offense. If no other complaints were lodged against said person and logs weren’t a ‘Texas Chainsaw Massacre’ personality obviously so far off their rocker they were orbiting Pluto screaming it indeed was a planet and vowing to do horrible acts of dismemberment to anyone that disagreed..Umm well yea, if not ‘that guy’ then first time offense is just a private warning.
Beyond that, not sure, only got one warning so far. And Pluto is a planet, science is wrong.
Unless I’m missing something today is May 15. May is a 31 day month. You do the math.
As someone who has totally deleaded to change servers for free in the past. Anything in your personal bank is perserved, that’s it. Unlocks such as world completion, crafting, etc are reset since it’s a new character in a new world.
Milled over this question for a few days mainly because I grew up with recurring minor carpal tunnel in the left wrist. I always fought though it even with a brace. In my 40s now. End result the carpal is gone now for about a decade but my left thumb has been permanatly numbed due to nerve damage, my left index and middle finger took 3 years returning from numb to normal. Turns all out that’s really annoying even though I’m right handed.
You, Torvarren, have 15x(ish) worse then what I had and I’m damaged for life. You can lose feeling and mobility in your entire left arm, and that would not be fun. I just have a useless thumb to watch out for and not everything attached to it.
Maybe look into Voice command software, see if that could work. If not read a book and rest, the ‘Otherworld’ series by Tad Williams is quite interesting.
Jia, you’re old. Fidonet. 300 baud or 1200 baud for the rich. Local BBS’ in your area code.
Had to edit, saw your sarcasim and realized you’re older then me so discounted it, my apologies. I mean, have to bow to the elders and such.

What year is it? ..hmm. 43. Favorite game was the original Portal on the c64, was a huge reader back then. Thank God for emulators, ROMS and the internet.. Not that Portal is good these days (dull to action, plus on story which I’m out of now) but to investigate its backstory wasn’t possible at the time.
There is nothing wrong with that current setup a few upgrades wouldn’t get to a better place:
- While 4 GB of memory is ok, 8GB would be better (you need #2 for this to be of any use, however).
- You NEED to upgrade to a 64Bit OS. I suggest Windows 7 (why fix what isn’t broken).
- 2 SSD (Solid State Disks) of 128GB or 256GB (better) that you can stripe (RAID 0). Put new OS and Program Files on this disk (use your existing HD for data and user files).
Video card is fine (next upgrade if desired).
You should note that GW2 does not run as well on AMD processors as Intel based ones, so if you are looking for a whole new rig to run GW2 go with an Intel i5 (GW2 does not NEED an i7).
8GB is not required for anything really, and there are not many single programs that will use more than that, however multitasking etc it can be helpful. a 64bit OS is not NEEDED, everything will run fine on the 32bit OS. And kitten will not help gaming what-so-ever, it will help with loading screens, but that is it, it will have no impact on fps, the extra money spent on kitten would be better put to getting Intel over AMD.
To the OP, from the start with you trying to upgrade, mobos don’t just go poof without reason, also, keep in mind that just because the board is pin compatible does NOT mean it can support the chip, this has often been a problem with AMD, as they would put out far more powerful chips on the same socket and people think “awesome I can now put a 6 core as an upgrade”, they stick it in because it is pin and BIOS compatible, and then fry the VRMs.
Decided to keep all the quote. Think outside gaming for the 64 bit OS and more ram- 3dsmax, Lightwave3d, Photoshop..
And motherboards along with other perhipherals do go poof without a seeming reason without known cause at the time, gotta love hidden static discharge due to not being properly grounded when installing anything electrically critical.
Heck even memory sticks can not register if not positioned ‘just so’.
Edit: the memory stick part is only for laptops, never had a problem with them not being seen in desktops.

Yea, just now did this, required two edit posts, humiliating : https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/trouble-with-auto-targetting/first#post4020884
Sorry Zone, but read his message. He locked onto a target, target moved out of range and his rapid fire whiffed up nothing, although he was still targeting that character.
And Tonszo, this is where skill comes in. If the red bar is under your rapid fire, it’s out of range. Move or switch targets- which is where my previous message comes in.
edit: My bad. I just read up on auto-attacking. Never used it since it never worked for me. Will have to try it again and get back. Wouldn’t be surprised if it didn’t work in PvP and WvW though- but dunno.
EDIT 2: IGNORE EDIT 1. Read the tool tip, turns out I’ve always had it enabled. IF YOU HAVE NOTHING TARGETED and hit a skill, it will autotarget. SO, red line under rapid shot hit ESC to clear current target and then Rapid Shot will hit something/someone if they’re in range and you’ll have a new target. But again, refeer to my original post when in a zerg.
(edited by MeanPi.6025)
Zerg? Just Barrage and then take your time and TAB target around. Maybe hit F2 off the wolf and fear some people for kicks..and yes, I have an 80 Ranger I sometimes zerg with.
Thank you for the level-headed response.
She, you, I and everyone should take this whole situation as a life lesson: Sometimes it’s best to keep ones mouth shut, escpecially on the internet. This leads to more life lessons that improve “quality of life”:
It’s easiest to learn something when you totally mess it up, which your friend did and I live by that rule. Run away in terror and later with a clear mind one can dissect the situation, realize what they did wrong and yes, it’s one sided thought focusing on oneselfs actions not other peoples actions towards them (not taking down player names, responding incorrectly to the taunts allowing victimization) and learn how to react in the future. Fear and harrasment make us stronger due to rational thought after the fact.
Ask your friend if she was in that same situation now, what would she do different? If it’s drastically different then what you posted, she learned a life lesson.
Another player, both being in the same guild[..], came up and beginning telling her the same thing and telling her to stop spamming and that he hoped she got banned.
This is the important and glossed over part of your message. Why was she accused of spamming?
Ranger is my main. Warrior may replace the Ranger once I’ve got the condition/stability issues worked out.
Messer is when I want some brain activity because they’re so complex and fun I’m only playing it at maybe 25% capacity. Also fantastic for node harvesting.
Also want to add in that little necro. Not sure why I haven’t leveled it more. That little sucker completed an upscaled event (10+ mobs vs him) in Metrica solo which the Ranger, Messer, Warrior and Guard would have failed at.
Actally let me edit that: A properly played staff messer probably could have pulled the event off just not me playing a messer.
Final edit: it was a lvl 15 event @ lvl 15, the messer would have died since they kinda suck till later levels so original statement stands.
(edited by MeanPi.6025)
80 messer and Ranger, 69 guard, 70 warrior, 16 necro. I don’t min/max and in general suck but succeed just fine in solo PVE play.
Ranger is alright, I went more beastmaster. Never really melee’d with it, shortbow/conditions till the nerf then longbow. Never worried about dying from conditions. In Orr the mobs tend to ignore the pet though which gets annoying. Longbow 4 then 3 gets things back under control. For WvW, which I rarely do, and only with a zerg it’s my goto char because it’s so simple to play.
Way more single target focused then Warrior but can take more then one if needed with good pet management. (just FYI: ranged Messser with clone on dodge and vigor can practically take on a whole map though since mobs focus on the clones/spawned clones attack closest threat from spawnpoint and Ranger is diffinatly not even near that level.)
The Warrior just hit 70 and while it can take a beating and more then one PVE mob at a time easily, conditions flat out hurt. Trying to get that under control now but it’s a bear in taking on 5 then having to run because conditions are stacking faster then they can be purged. Stability is a problem also. Basically you have to think alot more about your equipment/runes/signets/dodging and blocking then Ranger (as ranged Ranger anyway). I’d compare it to a messer but kills alot faster while being less hectic, and in some cases less sturdy.
Warriors also get only one single combo field that is F1 off longbow but tons of finishers. But an Asura warrior gets a racial field, Radiation Field which I use all the time- 15 sec AOE weaken/poison with 4 finishers with axe/axe? Sure. The also have access to Tormet from the sword if they want it.
Haven’t WvW with the Warrior yet. But it’s longbow skills are better then the Rangers, except Rangers Barrage is nice.
It’s a wall of text, sorry.
You’re both welcome. While trying to find an open Temple of Balthazar I stumbled across the link (finally) and thanks to Tarnished Coast was able to get the single skillpoint to finish an area on my Ranger.
Then logged on the 80 messer and server jumped completing Straights of Dev, Malchor’s Leap and all but one skillpoint in Cursed Shore in one day.
http://www.gw2state.com/temples.html is a better link and it’s accurate.
Hate to bump this.
Keep legenaries legendary. I’ve watched a few ‘100 rare into the mystic toilet for a precursor’ youtubes (have no life, me) and they’re fun. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ref9y265elk is a perfect example of why they’re fun to watch.
If suddenly we can craft precursors that’d suck in a Star Wars Galaxies ‘NGE’ patch way.
I don’t have a lengendary or precursor. Yet.
Have to edit: This is Matt Visuals compilation of making ‘Sunrise’. This guy is funny and talented in using compositors: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=f_1CmHphkkI
(edited by MeanPi.6025)
Okay Knote, I was afraid that’s what you were talking about. It used to be like that, not anymore.
Nothing left to say here except I’d rather be entwined in the madness of Erich Zhann then playing this game if I was a loot hound since ANet always nerf hammers anything that could be fun loot-wise into the non-existant ground. And they can get away with it. For now.
Okay I have to edit this: farming the events gains a lot of gold. Sell all the blues, do what one will with the greens and yellows. It seems ANet realizes they’ve been jerks about the loot-nerf-bat and maybe making up for it. I don’t know but this update is casual friendly.
(edited by MeanPi.6025)
Knote, now you need to define what you term ‘reward’. Loot? Loot as in pre-Anets loot hammer madness (running Maw as lvl 20 and getting awesome lvl 80 loot and hammer upon hammer upon hammer till everything only gives whites and blues) or reward as in some unknown thing conjured up while Erich Zhann flailed playing his violen as a madman to keep out the evil wanting to suck out the world in H.P. Lovecrafts story? Or..something different?
Knote you’re expanding on your original post but it’s what others before you have posted and it makes sense now.
Knote and Jaga, yes, these story things are hollow. Boring even. But it’s what’s there. I’m done with the achievements and I’m casual, according to map chat I’m a farmer. I understand now what you’re saying. Attack a portal solo and see what happens is basically what I’m saying.
Ok Knote, I re-read your original message and you’re asking for utopia and I’m afraid that done don’t exist. If you want to know why figure out what the term ‘mob rules’ means. Want fun, stay away from the zerg.
Course you’re not asking for fun, you’re asking for an imposability: oraganized chaos. Good luck with that.
Thank you Healix!
Im Mudbone, post a link outlining macro use please.
OP, I’m ‘Vinegar Whine’ in that pic and it’s the final fight so of course it’s a zerg.
1 thing to say: Don’t leave a portal site once it’s closed like everyone else does. Stay and clear out the remainders with a couple other people around and you might have what you want. Maybe. Some, repeat some, of these portals when closed keep spawning, Champs even and with few people it’s..hate to say it..fun.
daimasei please, re-read what you wrote. ANet is endorsing this keyboard pointing out the macro support on their own site. That means they support macros.
Thanks Amstel, a link for your source and we’ll be golden.
Stop derailing this thread. The OP asked a simple question: Does GW2 support macro use due to their advertising of this new keyboard?
And I want to know also, have a G350 in the closet..
Okay hate to say this but..Been playing the game actively all Winter through Spring. Have a couple 80s, deleted another 80 to change servers on the cheap basically been playing alot. Learning I did the mat toss thing also, corrected that.
Always hated the underwater parts though, seemed weak there but fought through.
And just NOW, right now, umm, realized I could assign utilites and an elite skill to the empty underwater skillbar. So yea, that bar only held the default heal skill for months though many characters.
Norn zone is the easiest to navigate. Human is the most boring, Asura most interesting but confusing and annoying, Sylvari too drawn-out. Char, 2nd easiest.
Race quibbles. Char and Norn due to their size can be a challange in some jumping puzzles. Asura get the /bow there with Human and Sylvari just fine.
Asura: Really wanna see your weapons? Too bad, they have the tiniest weapon models in the game. But they have the best animations and dialoge sooo..err..yea.
Classes: Rangers aren’t bad, have a Beastmaster spec at 80 and it solos fine. It’s my solo farmer and WvW goto (rarely WvW though).
Messer at 80 and really should have made it an Asura with all the dodging around it does. Solos fine but..can be a complex class. Ranger cat kills faster then the messer even shattering all 3 clones and self in a mobs face, but messer with create clone on dodge can solo (PvE) 1v5 easier then the Ranger. (Dodged clone attacks closest aggressive mob, not targeted, which is awesome. Dodge, decoy and lose that annoying aggro chasing you in circles.) Can blink away, time warp, transfeer/cure conditions, pull mobs, speed buff, mirror image, group invis, tons of escape options and then more stuff..basically slow to kill things but a blast to play (after lvl40 that is, dull till then). Really have to make another, Asura this time..
Guard is low 40s and Greatsword face stomping fun. Being hard to kill creates overconfidence and, well, maybe that Vet and 4 mobs 5 levels higher wasn’t such a good group to attack.. Basically Guard will make you say, “Hey, watch this!” too often. But as a Guard sometimes you actually pull off some stupid stuff.
Story-wise I’m trying out all the branches and they do differ some. The Norn creation choice of ‘partied hard and lost something’ seemed to last alot longer and was more interesting then the Sylvari whatever it was, green unkillable knight or whatever (boooring! and short). Asura stories are just fun do to the dialog.
Voice-overs: Sylvari are the most dull. My plant Guards voice is an accountant that occasionally sounds like someone else all together.
Again, Asura get the /bow to voice overs. Char didn’t pay much attention to, female human was alright.
Lore-wise, my plant Guard that just joined the Priory is going through some interesting lore about Ancient Dwarves and the dragons. And the side-kick mentor is fun, her boss is an Asura so the dialoge is great and there’s tomb plundering with traps and intersting stuff. Vigil and Whispers just wasn’t as entertaining but maybe picked the wrong choices during those lines.
Okay, I’m off the rails, time for someone else to chime in.
StinVec: THANK YOU for the information on core parking. Using the 2nd utility in your post, LA went from a bouncy 11FPS, AA off/shadows low to 21-30FPS AA on/shadows high. Steady 35FPS AA off/Shadows low.
Poor laptop will probably blow a gasket but GW2 looks even purtier.
OP, hope you can solve your problem. <- You solved it, congrats!
Too much extra info. Rule out the simple stuff first: One of those installs works correctly, copy that gw2 install directory to a thumb-drive, external drive, whatever, then create a new directory in one of the wonky pc’s and copy the working install there. Then run GW2.EXE from that directory. If it works correctly, just copy over all the other installs.
Otherwise no clue here.
The gw2.dat file is 15.8gigs and is installed wherever GW2 is installed. Local.dat is stored in my documents and it’s 33.6 MB and re-creates itself if deleted.
The documents folder also holds any ‘corrupt..dat’ files found using the -repair option, an empty music folder and a couple possible text files.
GW2 is it’s own directory. I installed in the folder C:\GW2 and then copied that folder to D and an external 1 TB, all run independently and update independently. If launching from a shortcut, the shortcut has to point to the proper drive and location or it will start re-downloading (I have to use the /clientport 80 switch for example).
So YES, you can move the entire install to a SSD, local.dat will remain in my documents but that’s fine as Jazhara said, no reason to move it.
edit: Well well well, there are two local.dat files, one in the install dir and one in my docs, both different sizes. But still, it doesn’t matter.

Update, just got a blue level ONE mighty focus and blue Mighty bow, lvl ONE at the same place. White drops are correct, 30-32. Dyes are dropping, anything above white (blues only dropped so far) are all lvl one.
EDIT: Now a lvl 1 blue mighty sword. I won’t post about this anymore as there is an obvious problem as has been explained.
(edited by MeanPi.6025)
RNG is broken. I posted in the bug forum. My lvl 28 Guard was fighting lvl 32 Pirates/Moas and got two lvl 1 blue daggers. Obviously something is broken somewhere.
Lvl 28 fighting lvl 32 Pirates and Moas at Proven Shore in Gendarran Fields and got not one but two blue Mighty Daggers that are lvl ONE!
This is why I’m losing interest in the game. I should not be under DR but loot for all my characters is a whole lotta meh and feels like every char is perma DR’d.
Don’t pay attention to the %, pay attention to the amount of files left.
Yes, GW2 will continue where it left off while d/ling but the % will usually be way off the mark.
https://en.support.guildwars2.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/8981/kw/repair
Try repairing the archive.
If that fails, copy the gw2 folder to another directory, all of it.
If that fails scan your disk for errors.
Only then worry about reinstalling..
Cannons I hate to say this, but that sounds like your power supply is dieing. I’ve had 3 go in the past, each acted differently, the 2nd one acted like yours is now.
Yea, I got it to run on Mint 13 using PlayOnLinux at 21fps with the AA on through Wine (was a mistake). Thing is, I’m using an Nvidia Optimus laptop with a 640m so had to install Bumblebee to switch graphic cards otherwise it was 11fps city.
Also had unexpected crashes and system freezes, getting TS3 working was beyond a nightmare but that was all due to Mint 13 not liking newer hardware. Haven’t tried it on mint 14 or Arch Linux yet.
So YES it’s possible. But your mileage will vary.
Also need to d/l the wine1.5.23? awesomium patched, open the .deb and extract into wherever PlayOnLinux stores its Wine versions (forget), then you can configure the prefix to use the patch with makes the TP work among other things. Don’t try and install it as a base system Wine or you might hose your entire OS like I did.
If you can pick up one of these somewhere, it’s an awesome laptop that will last for quite awhile. i7, GT640m, MATTE screen (no reflections!) backlit keyboard and very slow HD. They got replaced by something else so refurbished and used should be under $800.
Just reformat the HD, dump Win8, turn off the touchpad in Bios, Turn off Secure boot and UEFI in Bios (firmware bug can brick the laptop). It’s also NOT a power users laptop which is a pity but runs everything fine enough, except old Linux kernals.
