Ranger forced teleport bug

Memories Lost.7634

Noticed this while raiding tonight that if someone when down while I had the search and rescue rez trait on I would be forcebly teleported in the opposite direction of the body by approx 600 units. I was not teleporting to my pet when this happens I would just immediately be thrown in a direction.

Also possibly unrelated to the search and rescue teleport, whilst fighting gorseval during the break phases I would randomly be thrown into one of the spirit walls, I was not rezzing when this happened nor did I have search and rescue on my bar. The strange thing is that I was the only one being forcibly teleported, the other druid had no issues. This was a straight teleport from the center of the arena right to the very edge pressed into the wall. My group confirmed that I just suddenly vanished and appeared at the wall on their screens as well.

The healing power is probably overkill, swapping to something like wanderers or commanders trinkets would improve effective power and tankiness a bit. Also forgive me if I’m way off base as I’ve only backline ele’d in wvw, but wouldn’t losing the hard cc’s/waterfields/soft ccs outweigh what you would gain by taking d/wh? or is the might sharing/extra 2 auras/blasts generally valued higher in the front line.

I’ve been thinking about how to go about building a support front line ele that still does some damage. From what I’ve seen dagger/warhorn or dagger/focus seem to be popular choices, but I’m not sure how I feel about losing statics/earth wall and 2 water fields as well as have no range pressure.

What I’ve come up with is the following http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vFAQFAWn0XCdOgNYCWYCcYiFRAzttGXzrDBgBQCkoDkAOAA-TlCEQBfUJ4d0BQJVLAwFAAe7PoMlGVSNFroE7BPAAgpMIAACgje0je0je0G6QH6QH6QLFgo7tA-w

as a brief summary with 25 might/blood lust stacks it sits at 2529 power, ~2k toughness/3k armor and ~18.2k HP.

Based solely on the numbers everything except maybe the vitality looks sturdy enough to be front line viable but I’d like some input from those with more front line ele experience
Edit: forgot to put utility skills in Woops.

Memories Lost.7634

We do not know how the story in raids will actually intertwine with the ls3, it has been said explicitly by devs that raiding will not be required to understand ls3.

This is true, but not especially relevant. Whether the story intertwines with the Living Story is completely irrelevant. It is still in the game, it still covers lore of the game world, it is still important to people who care about the game and its lore.

We toted Glenna through enough of the wing that she has seen and researched everything that there is to look at and it could be her that ls3 talks to about white mantle events.

Having an NPC explain the raid in text boxes is no different than watching let’s plays on Youtube. I want to actually EXPERIENCE the content, I just want to do so in a reduced challenge manner, just as someone might want to experience the Colossus Fractal, but not want to do it on Fractal level 50+.

You realize the fights themselves have very little to do with the lore aside from random bits of dialogue they scream at you and has a lot to do with the “text boxes” ie notes scattered around the areas.

EDIT: I forgot that for all we know we could get an NPC like Glenna show people a cutscene that summarizes the entirety of the raid story.

I’m not reading 3 pages of what may very well just be bickering to determine if this has been said or not, so apologies if it’s been mentioned.

We do not know how the story in raids will actually intertwine with the ls3, it has been said explicitly by devs that raiding will not be required to understand ls3. For all we know the pact members we save in wing 1 could be in ls3 explaining to you what they have seen and what is going on in the wing. We toted Glenna through enough of the wing that she has seen and researched everything that there is to look at and it could be her that ls3 talks to about white mantle events.

It would be no different to Taimi saying that “Hey while you were gone I discovered all of this stuff, here you go”. Glenna is the perfect NPC to relay all of the raid story to a broader audience. For example “how do we know the white mantle is coming back?” to which Glenna could reply “I was with a Pact squad that uncovered their plans, here is what we know”. Boom perfect, no need to nerf the content and everyone gets the story.

tl;dr Until we get ls3 and know 100% how exactly the raid story ties into ls3 there is literally no reason to conclude that the raid story is an absolute must in order to understand things.

Druid in zerg?

Memories Lost.7634

Hi, I’m relatively new to the wvw scene but I’m trying to get more and more into it. I tend to play backline ele or a midline wells necro, but I’ve been curious as to whether or not druid has a roll in zerg fights. I don’t see many druids running in zergs which is why I’m unsure, but the healing that they could provide to the front line seems like it would be good.

So would running a support druid be more beneficial to the team as a whole over a back line dps or should I just stick to what I’m doing on ele/necro?

I’d like to elaborate a bit. There’s a difference between smart movement and nonsense movement.

If you’ve ever watched woodenpotatoes’ videos, you’d notice that whenever he fights enemies he is constantly jigging and jukeing in place. This annoys me, because this is the wrong way to fight enemies. It is nonsense movement that accomplishes little to nothing.

Good points overall I’d just like to point something out about this in particular. I do the exact same thing and its due to raiding on an ele which generally means using Seaweed salad as your food buff. This buff gives you 10% increased damage if you are moving, hence the constant strafing. Once you get that muscle memory going to keep that buff up its a hard habit to break.

I don’t disagree with this except that so far, no HoT mechanic is necessary for any other part of the raid and people have come to expect that. Two of these friends of mine bought HoT only and solely for the raids. Now they are regretting their purchase.

You what? Have you never made it to gors? Because I’m pretty sure updrafts are a HoT mechanic. Or perhaps you beat sloth and just sat in his room because oh guess what bouncing mushrooms are a HoT mechanic. Not to mention it was explicitly stated that there would be masteries tied into raids before they came out and even if you missed that then CLEARLY the previous two examples I have mentioned are indicative of Anet using their mastery system in raids and it would be only logical for them to continue this trend.

So because you refuse to change your build that means the entire encounter needs to change to suit your build? That’s absolutely absurd. Raids are a TEAM setting, you make changes to your build to the benefit of the team regardless of your own preference. By refusing to alter your gear for the good of the entire team you are being selfish and that alone is reason not to bring you into a raid.

This is like crying about not being allowed to play hockey because instead of bringing a hockey stick you brought a tennis racket.

Having a druid is amazing for this. Was in a group with 1 rev, 2 ele, 1 necro and a completely heal spec’d druid. We were able to comfortably sit inside of lightning fields face tanking mai to get all of her stacks down. Between the druid heals and the necro pulling condies off of everyone the fight was a breeze and we managed to complete the challenge mote with 11 minutes remaining.

Ele as raid healer?

What I had in mind was dagger/warhorn fresh air to spam overloads for the shocking aura + dps, using zealots armor/weapons and zerk trinkets to maintain some dps. Tho it’s a good point about druid bringing both buffs and heals, which is something ele can’t exactly do.

Ele as raid healer?

Memories Lost.7634

I’ve been trying to open up the number of builds that I can bring to my raiding group and have heard some good things about a healer ele, but before I make the gear for it I have some questions.

How does ele compare to druid for healing? Is an ele about equal or does druid completely outshine an ele in this role?

If I were to make gear for this would the effectiveness difference between zealots and magi’s be worth the extra cost of a zealots set?

Is going full ascended healer worth it over exotics? Especially considering the massive price difference?

Any input would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Nevermore IV: Raven Chick

Memories Lost.7634

If you have completed the heart vendor by the raven shrine in wayfarer then you just need to kill one of the skelks wandering around and it will drop the egg you need. After you have the egg you can follow the order of your collection to hatch the egg and receive the raven chick. Feeding the chick is easy it just requires knowing where to get some of the items, a lot come from heart vendors but some such as the mushroom cap require you to kill some mushrooms in verdant brink (I did the ones west of itzel).

After you have fed it and everything you can continue to progress down in order the collection lists until like raven and soul or something (and the one before it), once you reach this point its easier to start from the bottom of the collection and work backwards towards the middle.

I have been looking forward to the new legendary items since they were confirmed to be release and fell in love with nevermore the moment I saw it. I hoarded all the materials and gold that I could manage so I could craft this beauty.

Over 1,000 gold later I finally have my precursor and things are looking good, its a huge investment but I know it will be worth it when I get to throw ravens around all day on my ele.

I could be almost done by now, enjoying my shiny new staff and going about my day doing whatever. Instead I have spent nearly 100% of my available play time over the past couple days sitting in snowden drifts waiting for an event. Now if this event just required waiting about for a long timer it would be annoying but doable, but no I need to wait and hope to god no one is around so I can fail this event to get the one I need to spawn.

Hours of waiting and begging random people to stop killing a low level veteran mob. This is what gw2 is for me now. Sure I could go off and do something else, but then I’d be wasting all of my previous efforts to get to this point.

Its rapidly killing all desire to log in and play the game, because regardless of what I want to do I know I’m just going to end up sitting back in snowden drifts. Just let me buy the dang trophy, I don’t care if it costs 100 gold at least then there’s a tangible goal to work towards. Instead of spending hours doing nothing waiting on a chance to progress.

Scarcity of crystalline ore

I see that getting them are difficult but I have a feeling that there will be more sources later on. Perhaps with raids?

I think this is exactly what they are doing, they purposely made it a pain to get large amounts of but tease us with shiny things that cost tons of crystalline ore. We have already seen that they feel the need to completely gut gold rewards from things like dungeons/fractals so I would assume raids would follow this philosophy. By having the raids drop crystalline ore in large-ish quantities they will feel “more rewarding”.

Memories Lost.7634

The HoT maps are actually engaging with mobs that require you to do more than repeatedly slam your face into the 1 key to kill. This is a very good thing and if you can’t do it then either change your build or approach things in a different way until you succeed. For example, I swapped from a zerk set to a marauder set on my ele because I was melting and that fixed my problems. Tho, tangle root is a nightmare to navigate and may be populated a bit too densely.

Most hero points, with a few exceptions are easy enough to duo or at most trio. Balthazaar being the most notable exception.

The mastery system is great. It provides long term goals and due to maguuma mastery’s being tied to maguuma maps means that at least some of the maps are going to have a solid population level. This actually makes experience matter again, instead of getting your 2000th skill point and literally not caring at all about exp.

Rewards, well they aren’t superb by any means but tarir has 27 chests upon completing the meta event not to mention all of the champ bags from getting to the meta. Now tweaking the rewards to give more is precarious as it can have an extreme effect on the economy if it’s tweaked poorly. Given how many mats you get from salvage tho, its pretty decent.

Regarding class roles and communication, as an ele main, cannot argue with you there. There needs to be more communication for sure.

And with so many more exciting options to play its hard to actually want to play my ele.

Can't complete [spoiler] Fight. Bugged!

Memories Lost.7634

Did this with a group last night and got through everything on our way to mordy just fine. Then we get to mordy and all hell breaks loose. First time we entered the instance everything went perfectly fine mechanically speaking, we did however wipe.

The problems really started with the second attempt where parts of the island wouldn’t load and some people were unable to get the air currents to trigger and throw them into the air (despite everyone having updraft mastery). We wiped again and again.

Eventually we got the the final stage but 2 out of 5 of us had died and we didn’t have enough CC to break the bar. So we had to suicide and try again. However every single time after this point mordy would spawn with a breakbar active. After a few more attempts with things either breaking or people just dying we ended up breaking his bar right from the start and this is where things got really weird.

So we broke his bar and it put him into a burn phase and we pushed him from 100% down to about 25% in 1 single burn. This triggered the final phase of the fight, as well as some of the earlier phases that should have been triggered. Burnt him anyway and killed him. After all of that we were watching the final cut scenes and the very last one started to play, then just stopped, booted us from the instance and asked if I would like to claim credit for completion.

I have nothing against fractals at all, in fact I’ve been running fractals more often that dungeons lately. The thing about that is using AC as an example you “can” enter at level 35, its going to be challenging but you have the ability to complete it and as a level 35 feel like you should be able to complete it. For fractals you have that lv80 required, yes there is up-scaling but that’s not really intuitive for a newcomer.

Memories Lost.7634

I started playing guildwars less than a year ago when a friend of mine bought me a copy for christmas so that we could play together. I remember running around doing map completion and seeing a big door icon on the map and asking him what that was, “that’s a dungeon entrance, I’ll take you through when you are high enough level” and I was super excited to see this content.

Fast forward a little bit and my friend is taking me through my first dungeon path and I am just constantly hugging the floor because I was getting my butt kicked. And you know what? It was incredibly fun. I wanted to get better so that I could do that content with my friend without dying constantly, I wanted to see every single dungeon. I had a bit more free time than my friend so I pugged a few dungeons, feeling nervous about being so bad people would ask me to leave. Instead I had people helping me learn my class, teaching me tricks to make things a bit easier.

It became a strong motivation to reach level 80 so I could get the gear and do the dungeons and have fun. All the while actually learning the mechanics of the game and how to play my class effectively. Something that fractals, due to being lv80 content I would have never experienced as a new player.

I made some new friends because of dungeons and had some really good times with old friends doing late night dungeon runs. Had I never experienced this I probably would not have gotten as into GW as I did.

Yes the changes are “economy based” but when you actively discourage people from playing this content you willingly kill a bit of the community. They might not have been flashy, or exciting after the 100th run, hell they outright broke sometimes, but they were still fun. Yes they will still exist but the amount of players who are actively using the LFG or even wanting to play this content is undoubtedly going to shrink.

I’m just sad that the chances of a new player getting to experience all of that have just greatly diminished. That a new player is going to see that icon on the map and ask “what does that icon mean?” only to get the reply of “oh those are dungeons, but they are dead. Nobody runs those anymore”. It’s just sad to think that what provided a lot of fun for so many people is soon to be reduced to something people only do for legendary gifts or out of sheer boredom/nostalgia with some friends.

“There is already an elite to turn into a tornado, another tornado would not be better. "
It couldn’t possibly be worse than what the current tornado is. This current elite is so useless for so many things its hardly worth mentioning. So yes a new tornado elite would have been better than that god awful rebound shout. Ele lacks meaningful elite skills and rebound could have been something epic, we could have had a long cooldown elite skill that created a large storm on the field. Instead we got something to help other classes use their more fun elites more often.

“Yeah, but D/D is pretty cool, so making more of that is a good thing.”
From a PvP perspective Cele D/D is so incredibly good its bordering on OP, making the tempest fill the same niche is either bound to be broken OP or straight up worse. Currently its the latter. There is no reason to drop a trait line to take tempest, its just not worth it at all.

PvE wise there isn’t a reason to take it unless you don’t care about efficiency. Staff as you’ve mentioned is a given, even if you are in melee range with a staff there just is no reason to take tempest. But I mean even with dagger mh, what does taking tempest give me? Not a whole lot. Maybe Stacking might and sharing it out then swapping right out of tempest. I can’t see a reason why I would ever want a warhorn over my focus if I’m going to be using a dagger. As it stands the tempest is a huge damage loss for no real gain.

Tempest is a long way off where it needs to be and the changes made for the next BWE are hardly going to change much. The fact of the matter is that they dropped the ball, now I’m not saying that tempest can’t be good with the right changes, it can and I want it to be. However, they blew the first impression and blew it again when they addressed the community about what changes were happening.

Currently how things stand its like christmas day and all the other kids are opening shiny new toys, but we got socks. Hopefully your relentless preaching about how tempest isn’t bad and will be good is true, I want to be wrong about tempest being awful when it launches.

Legenday Backpiece Worry

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Memories Lost.7634

Memories Lost.7634

I really don’t understand. They didn’t even say that this would be the only legendary backpiece released, nor did they even say it came exclusively from fractals. If there is some fractal element required and presumably it will just be relics then you can do low level fractals and still complete the task.

Don’t want to pug it? Join a guild, get some friends together and bumble along through it having some fun.

Not only that but legendary items are completely optional, it’s not like you need them to complete content. If you want one then you go through the effort to get it, if you don’t want to put in the effort then you don’t get it. Simple.

The only merit to this argument that I could see is if they gated it behind extremely high level fractals. Even then, you might as well complain that you can’t get the new fractal skins without doing high level fractals.

Frankly, I’d be absolutely shocked if when the mastery tracks launched for the new legendary items there wasn’t a qq storm about having some pieces of the collection being part of activities that you don’t like to do. So what? Are you suggesting that they design a way that every single new legendary can be attained by each and every style of play? Why even bother calling it a legendary at that point? It’s a symbol of achievement that everyone can see, people look at you and know what you had to go to get that item.

They should be encouraging people to experience new content. These collections are a fantastic idea, if you want the item it forces you to experience different areas of the game that you might have otherwise ignored and perhaps you really enjoy that area and wonder why you never got involved in it before.

In my opinion what would have been a really cool idea for an elite would be a skill on a short-ish cast time that would allow you to place a ground targeted overload down based on your attunement.

Idea for changes to matchmaking

in PvP

Posted by: Memories Lost.7634

Memories Lost.7634

So it’s no secret that matchmaking in its current iteration is, well, broken. I was trying to come up with a potential way that Anet could improve matchmaking/leader boards and thus the overall pvp experience.

The current system was supposed to match you against people with similar win/loss ratios as yourself and thus create a leader board that way, but it really turned into who could play the most games. Which I think most of us can agree wasn’t a good thing.

The theory:
Each win will give points based off of the magnitude of your win, thus if you obliterate your opponent you will be granted more points than if it was a very close game. As you gain points on the ladder you will have hard caps of opponents that you are able to face, thus preventing new players being lumped into experienced games. Conversely if you yourself get annihilated you will lose points and move down the ladder.

How it will work:
Team A faces team B at the start of the season, both have equal amounts of points (number is arbitrary, lets call it 100)
Team A is very experienced and wins by a margin of 250 points. They gain say 5 rank points for doing so. Team B on the other hand loses 5 rank points.

Team A now has 105 pts to team B’s 95 pts.

Again, numbers are arbitrary but lets say there is a bracket for people with between 100-125 rank points. Team A will no longer be able to fight Team B as they are held in a different bracket and will only fight teams within the 100-125pt range.

The difference in match points will determine how many points you win/lose, so for example if you win with <50 pts lead then you only gain 1 rank point, win with 50-100pt lead and you gain 2 points and so forth.

Eventually the better teams will distance themselves in points and end up in completely different brackets to bad teams, thus (hopefully) ensuring matches against people of similar skill level.

Given that a lot of people, myself included, usually solo Q then your team will be made via other players within your bracket. It will be your own rank that determines the match up but everyone on the team suffers/gains from a loss/win. Unfortunately I can see how people would use this to grief others, but I can’t think of anyway around it and at least if they keep grieving they will push themselves out of the bracket.

Also for every player each of their professions will have a different rank tied to them. I may be a good ele player but I suck at thief and it makes no sense for me to be matched up against players who know their classes well, nor is it fair to my team. Now this is where things get a bit sketchy for me idea wise. Regarding profession swapping before a match starts, I think it would make sense that you can only swap into professions that meet the bracket requirements for the game that you are loaded into. Granted this could pose some problems so I’m not really sure about that. Perhaps you could bring a character from a lower bracket, but not a character from a higher bracket? So I couldn’t just que on a class I’m awful with to get matched against bad opponents and then swap to a class I’m better with before the game starts.

Also on a side note, for map selection what do you think about a first past the post type system? So as soon as one map get 6 votes it is chosen, but if there is no clear majority then the wheel spins as normal to select the map?

I’m keen to hear what the pvp community thinks of this, I know there are flaws but it’s a rough idea that would benefit from the community refining it further.

Staff is our highest dps weapon, that being said d/f is probably the most fun set imo and I use it whenever possible.

To get to the pvp dummies, on the top of your screen there is a series of icons and the farthest right will bring you into the pvp lobby. You don’t have to play any pvp at all while there and you can use it just play with different builds.

How the current meta is set up is based on the theory that while wearing full zerk gear a party can burn down a boss before they run out of defensive cooldowns. In practice this doesn’t always work with unorganized groups but in most cases even wearing tank gear won’t save you from getting wrecked. At best it will turn a 1 shot into a 2 shot.

Best way to go about it is to make a LFG and specify that it is your first run through the dungeon. There are often people who will either carry you through your first time or have the patience to deal with the inevitable wipes. This is mainly for story mode, the explorable mode is generally for 80’s, though non 80 groups pop up fairly frequently.

Specifically regarding ele (which I main) the staff is going to be the easiest weapon to learn dungeons with. Also with staff there is only one blast (earth 2) so you can at least blast one of your own fire fields when starting a fight (in addition to arcane wave/arcane brilliance). Also, if you are following guides then I’m assuming you will be running meta gear (zerk), just be prepared that when running zerk you will wipe a lot until you learn what you need to avoid (and even still, the wipes will happen).

Target dummy wise, if you go into PVP you will be upscaled to level 80, gear stats are normalized so you can test any weapon at full effective damage, all traits (except for 1 gm in each line) are unlocked for you and there is both dummies and npcs that mimic players.

Much needed staff change.

Given the fact that Anet has decided that staff should be the only surviving build left to eles I propose that they allow us to skin our staves with dagger/focus/scepter skins. This way at least while I sit around and talk to people I can pretend that I still play d/f.

If this does not sound agreeable, I then suggest we get a staff that is made up of our old dagger/focus/scepters and have them fused together into some monstrosity. I suggest calling this staff “build diversity” because you will be holding all of our old weapons at once.
Thanks.

Maybe i’ll try a game or two with pack runes instead of scholars. Your trait set up is a bit tankier than mine is. I take vital striking and arcane mastery, swapping between cleansing wave and soothing disruption. I figure since you don’t have much in the way of sustain, especially if your cooldowns are blown anyway that going more offensive works better for me. With the 20% damage at 90%+ life from scholars/vital striking its generally enough to get in and burst people hard enough to force them to go into defensive rotations and are less likely to actually hurt you.

In regards to mist form, the invuln/move speed is nice but personally I like arcane shield, so I can still put some pressure on and spam skills to sustain a bit. That being said I like to play really aggressively.

As fun as this build is, I hope it doesn’t get too popular or ele v ele fights are going to turn into who can combo faster =p and how it stands now, with the level of play i’m at most d/d ele’s are pretty bad and serve for easy picking.

I haven’t played ranked yet, mainly because I don’t think I’m good enough not to be a burden to my team. But playing s/f fresh air in unranked solo q’s is incredibly fun. d/d cele may be the more solid build and gives you more room for mistakes but its dull as hell.

s/f makes you feel like you are actually a threat and most people really don’t expect the burst from an ele. I haven’t watched your video yet, but which runes/sigils did you go with? from memory I use scholar and air/doom but i’m curious as to what other s/f are running with.
