Sneak Gyro needed a cooldown that was longer since it would otherwise have potential 100% uptime, so it now has a cooldown of kitten , up from 30s (its 30s duration remains).

Well wishes,

just interest how long is a kitten in seconds?

I’d also guess 45 seconds, but the censor caught 45(s) as a workaround for the “a” word.

The changes to gyros are looking really good, though.

This has to do with the appearance of skills, not the actual durations of evasions and such. It simply makes sure that animations end on the screen when the effect actually ends, and by consequence, that the animations are lined up with the portion of the skill being represented.

I am not sure where in the dev’s post you got the impression it would only affect animations.

Because that’s literally what this technology is for. It makes sure things are lined up on all ends, and the only way to do that on your client is to mess with animations since your client gets no say in what actually happens aside from sending your information and inputs.

When your client receives the information that something is happening, it actually already started some milliseconds ago due to the fact that it takes time for signals to travel and be processed, so using this technology, the server tells your client to start the animation part way through so that it progresses in time with the actual events, even if it didn’t start at the exact same time.

Please go back and read the last 3 paragraphs of the OP if I didn’t explain this well.

Not to complain at your experiments, but wouldn’t this be a significant disadvantage for players at higher pings play PvP? For example a player uses dodge. Instead of a 1000ms dodge, he only gets a 800ms dodge. Or if Someone uses Mesmer distortion, they only get a 800 ms distortion instead of a 1000ms distortion…

I guess it could be advantageous on the offensive side of this however, with cast times of skills being cut, and in effect allowing players to attack slightly faster.

This has to do with the appearance of skills, not the actual durations of evasions and such. It simply makes sure that animations end on the screen when the effect actually ends, and by consequence, that the animations are lined up with the portion of the skill being represented.

Might this relate to the “1 file remaining” bug?

That should be completely unrelated to this as the servers that distribute files should be separate from game servers, plus the fact that this has to do with things actually in the game, not outside it. Also, it technically might not even be the servers that are to fault for that, it might be the client.

In the recent past, I’ve noticed a much longer load time; at the loading screen, and rendering once in the map.

I’ve no idea if this has any relevance, but am reporting it….just in case.

Good luck.

That’s client-side most of the time. Defragmenting your hard drive if you have it on one (not on an SSD) and seeing if anything else is accessing and transferring to/from your drive constantly would probably be what I’d try first. Re-installation may help.

But the question is why do we need that? We already can store gold, it’s just that it happens automatically and it can be accessed from anywhere and on any character.

I honestly hate the new gold storage system. I dont want to have all my gold be able to be accessed anywhere at any one time. i like to have a 20 gold reserve that i cant spend, and since the addition..eerrr should i say the removal of the ability to store gold in my personal bank, its way harder to keep that 20 gold reserve when equipping characters..

Then just don’t spend that gold. If you’re going to spend it, you’re going to spend it. There’s nothing they can do to stop you.

Some people liked it for role play reasons. Each char had its own gold and bought its own purchases through gold earned by its own actions. They could also have poor chars and rich chars with story lines about their rich noble char or their poor working class char.

This is a more understandable reason to me, but ultimately you still have the gold whether you can see it or not.

They need to bring them back in some way.

No item should be available once in a lifetime, then never again.

It should either come back cyclically (for stuff available in yearly festivals), or become a very, very rare drop in legacy content like a fractal.

But the entire point of these small living world rewards it to signify to other players that you were there and you played that content.

If they just started handing them out to everyone, they wouldn’t mean anything, and then why have them at all?

One good reason stuff like this isn’t done in most games is that actual, useful contribution to a group effort is extremely hard (impossible in most games) to quantify. You could have one person who just scouts for hours at a time, occasionally flipping camps, and though he might be the most useful individual person in the entire map, he still wouldn’t get rewards for doing the sort of stuff he isn’t doing, like taking towers or killing players.

I had actually given that a thought, as Southsun is nearly as good of a location for a central city, though it does lack land routes.

That would also open up Ruined LA to be a Tengu starting area, if they were so inclined, and it would line up well with the other maps.

That said, they’d have to have a darned good reason not to rebuild LA in it’s current place as I said in my previous comment.

I don’t get why so many people are hung up on LA being destroyed and never coming back.
Apparently, it was important enough to rebuild the first time it was destroyed. Heck, just look at it’s location, it’s central to our current area of the world, its nearly equidistant to major racial capitals, and it’s on the water, there’s no reason not to rebuild it if we get the chance. That would just be intentionally not rebuilding for the sake of trying (terribly) to make things feel different.

People talk about Scarlet not making sense, but not rebuilding LA in any way would be just about the least sensical thing yet if it were to happen, both as an in-universe matter, and for the sake of gameplay and community.

A Living World

Millillion.5914

Now I know the game is in for a bunch of changed and what I’m about to say doesn’t have to affect it but in a Living World, doesn’t thing usually get better? I mean we can have stuff that permanently changes the world but I don’t remember a lot of good things happening, like maybe with Orr? We “cleansed” it but nothing changed. But with Scarlet, things actually changes, like we got a tower, then blew it up. The land wasn’t ruined forever but there was damage. Are we ever going to see good things actually happen to the world instead of “Oh you beat Scarlet, Good job.”? And is a Living World just concerned with Living Story like if the Living Story doesn’t affect it, it shouldn’t do anything (like with the cleansing of Orr)? I’m just kind of curious.

Well, for the personal story, it would be kinda weird to change the entire area of Orr just for the first person to ever complete the personal story, so I can accept that we haven’t seen changes yet for the sake of gameplay, as other people need those things to stay the same so they can do the current personal story.

My “main” is “black” but really he just looks highly mixed race because the sliders only allow for so much from the default. Change his skin tone and no one would think it unusual.

That’s pretty much what I imagine when I imagine a War God. Looks fantastic.

Then they could just let everybody re-pick what they want and still keep the most people happy. Also, people would have more choice for skipping things they don’t want.

Precursor Drops?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Millillion.5914

Millillion.5914

I think the precursor drop is more like first come first serve on “secret days”. I talked to someone on my server who said it is possible to find a unique recipe that will have 15% return rate. The recipe unique to that day was 1h swords, so he said, and he pulled 18 precursors out of the MF in one day, more like a couple hours. He then cornered the market on the items for that recipe. So this means that there are people who are raking in precursors and we are all wasting our time with rng bs.

No. Just no.

Not only would that mean that the devs intentionally trashed the game’s market, but that they had to put in extra work making separate secret recipes for those precursors. Also, believe me, if that were true, we’d all know about it due to the absolute kittenstorm when the right person found out and publicly proved it.

What you just said is basically GW2’s equivalent of all the “secret” ways to get Mew in Pokemon Red/Blue that kids used to spout off and make up all the time.

Maybe a new class idea: Monk able to use staff as a melee weapon (everybody was KUNGkittenFIGHTING~!)

Also. In Mount Maelstrom i saw npc holding pistol in main hand and warhorn on offhand… lolwut ? She was wearing medium vigil armor

A martial arts type class is really all we have much room for that wouldn’t fit better just being melded into others.

Also, it’s possible that at one point in development rangers could use pistols, and that would help explain that one NPC

Ok here are my two cents :

I think the Pigpen cipher is a dead end. There is no symbol obviously linked to the “s” letter (which should appear really often in English/New Krytan).

What I’ll try to do is to create a list of all the different symbols and then perform a frequential analysis. (edit : attachment, I’ll have to decompose the big symbols in two smaller ones to proceed further)

However the more I think about it the more I am convinced that this is just fake text.

Edit : The table below summarizes the number of occurrences of each unique symbol in the paragraph labeled BD in the OP image. It appears we have a candidate symbol for the letter E (i.e the one that appears 8 times)

Don’t kill her, just retcon her out of the entire game.

Okay, so here’s what we do:

It turns out that the Elder Dragons are the true “gods” of Tyria, whom were so disgracefully displaced by the human gods some time before they brought humans to Tyria in order to prepare the place, and they can only muster enough power to come and mess things up every few thousand years for revenge. The Pact discovers this and a way to harness a portion of their power after they are killed (think somewhat like how Kormir gained Abbadon’s power), so we trek back to Arah, find Zhaitan’s body, harvest his power, and delete Scarlet. This would give a better sense of finality to Zhaitan’s defeat, would give a good chance to explain and bring focus back to the Elder dragons a little more, allow us to get rid of Scarlet, and would provide a nice segue into going to defeat more of the Elder Dragons using our new found powers as part of the living story instead of cramming more characters and factions than there needs to be into the game.

Inconsistant condition damage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Millillion.5914

Millillion.5914

The OP brings up one of the many design flaws of the condition system in this game. The caps wouldn’t be so bad if every class inflicted different DoTs. But every class inflicts the same DoTs. I was kicking around the idea of making each class emphasize different condis, so they won’t become redundant nearly as quickly. It is a bit boring that if you make a condi build, its all about bleeding and not much else.

I do think the problem with the condi limit is the server processing power. The way GW2 handles conditions is… problematic. The problem is, the server re-calculates the damage done for every tick of every condi on the enemy. This means that, while direct damage does its calculation only once, a condition attack does its calculation a dozen times. It has to constantly pull from memory the identity of the player, the level of the player, the malice of the player, and then calculate and apply that to each condition, which keeps track of its duration and stack limit.

25 stacks per enemy can get pretty stressful when you have players all over the map fighting different enemies. A simple solution to this would be to change it so the condi only calculates its damage at application, then simply subtracts that amount each tick. Doing this, you could save a whole load of processing power, and with that you can easily triple the current condi limit.

This is what I am inclined to believe. That it isn’t exactly impossible for this to work in GW2, but that they might have made the mistake of designing how conditions work early enough in development that it would be a massive undertaking to dig through all the game code to fix it.

If you want another example of this sort of thing, look at League of Legends. It takes Riot very long periods of time to fix things that technically could have been avoided since the start, but due to how early the mistakes were made, how far deep into the code they are, and the fact that new content is being regularly released that might work with the old systems but not some new systems (that you would have separate groups working on, making this almost impossible to test for), that it is a truly massive undertaking to fix even some seemingly simple problems.

Inconsistant condition damage

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Millillion.5914

Millillion.5914

ANets development team isn’t the smartest, nor do they ever see issues that are inevitably going to arise.

Condition damage has been completely forgotten about in pve and no one knows why they used such terrible restrictive coding so we can only have 1 stack of 25 bleed.

Best bet is to just go raw damage.

It’s not that they aren’t smart enough to do it, it’s just that it would require the servers to do so much more work if you could have infinite stacks of anything on anything. MMO’s don’t really require much bandwidth, but when you have hundreds of thousands of players on simultaneously, all applying varying amounts of boons/conditions to other things, it already starts to take a toll on the servers and the connection. There’s already problems with skill lag in huge groups due to the servers not being able to keep up, and allowing easily dozens of times more conditions to be applied would absolutely destroy playability for large group events.

Burning has the highest base and scaling by far (except for fear which is almost identical, but very rare) and stacks over time, allowing you to put long term DoTs on something. Bleeding, by comparison, is pretty weak, having only about an eighth the base damage and a fifth the scaling compared to burning and stacks intensity instead of duration, allowing for a little bonus damage for those not specced to apply it, but a lot of damage rather quickly for those who are.

Poison’s heal debuff speaks for itself in a game where there is so much health regeneration and healing going on at all times.

Basically, burning and poison can be used by everyone, and have added benefits, whereas bleeding is only really useful on those specced for it, and comes with nothing but pure damage.

A level cap increase would also be the best way (imho) to introduce new areas but still keep everyone from just immediately flooding to the final areas to get to the new open world end game.

At this point (about 75k karma), it seems like I’ll get the several hundred gold I need for the materials and such LONG before I ever manage to grind up ~4,000,000 karma leaving me to just run around completing world events for a VERY long time.

Maybe I just don’t have a proper sense of how much time getting everything else takes, but if I do, I dread the day I have everything but the karma I need.

I can attest to essentially having the same problems as the OP, but mine seem to occur more in towns (mine also include objects like wall and floor decorations and crafting stations popping up suddenly)

Just yesterday I was defending SMC in Eternal Battlegrounds and only saw a couple enemy players attacking one of the gates, so I did what any good guardian would do, I jumped down so I could get them nice and grouped up for our other players. Then I hit the ground, took less than a tenth of my health in fall damage and was almost instantly downed. About 2-3 seconds after I was downed, dozens of enemy players suddenly appeared on top of me just in time to finish me off.
