Correct me if i’m wrong, the mesmers crying here expect to have nearly 100% alacrity uptime specially with 2x phantasms from shield AND buff everyone else AND deal massive amounts of damage?
you know you could always try using other phantasms and other utility spells, right?btw, DPS meter is surely official and reliable and people care about dmg output only. would be fun to see druids whine about not doing so-claimed 27k+ DPS while healing.
That’s not what mesmers want at all. What mesmers want is to having something no other class can do that will make them wanted and more than just a veil or portal Bot, be it DPS, utility, survivability, whatever. It’s the exact same position us necromancers were in before reaper came along and got buffs out the wazoo.
Now I do agree alclarity and quickness are incredibly powerful buffs that need to be monitored carefully. But Anet’s carpet bomb of a nerf to the chronomancer profession did nothing to fix core Mesmer issues that bleed over into the Chronomancer Elite specialization.
To visualize it, ANET chopped off the Top of the weed but didn’t fix the root.
who exactly doesn’t want a normal chrono in their raid?
mesmers were in the same exact position as necro before, but not chronomancers. besides, while reaper can do great dmg now, it’s just as good as a PS warrior/berserker, obviously anyone would prefer a PS warrior over a zerker reaper.
when it comes to chrono tho….again…who wouldn’t want a chrono in dungeon or raids?
i mean:
“oh hey there’s a chrono in LFG for where we’re headed "
" HELL NO, who would want haste and alacrity "
eh?

Running around with wells is a significant dps loss. Your survivability goes up though.
sorry what? well of suffering is DPS loss? as you said later on not using it is your preference and sincerely, if you play with zerker gear then you’re definitely not doing enough damage.
- Mesmer does an average of 8-9k on full berserker’s gear while every other class is dealing 27k+.
i think you’re playing a completely different game, like, it can’t be gw2.
eitherways, as someone that has recently changed from reaper to chrono, i can tell that chrono doesn’t do as much dmg as the reaper, obviously, but i’m pretty sure it’s mainly because they have completely different roles just because chrono can give kittenloads of haste and alacrity.
it’d be stupid to expect a profession that can buff a party’s dps so much be able to do as much as a profession that doesn’t do kitten other than doing dmg.
i have no idea what kind of a gamebreaking kitten chrono have been before the nerf but i’m sure it’s doing relatively fine atm and personally wouldn’t go back to reaper anytime soon.
you just need to change the fractal level before everyone presses ready. it sends you to whatever level you set before everyone is ported.
it’d be unreasonable if it was the only way of getting an ascended greatsword.
i personally found it quite fun.
Nothing…well…except for Kralkatorrik.
But then there are still quite a few things i’d like to see in this expansion tho…
" By fire be purged! "
The timing is also a bit off.
Dev A:“We need to reduce the visual noise!”
Dev B: “Nah … I am going to add some more :P”
you’re one click away from reducing the visual noise drastically.

you can even change it before getting into the game….to avoid your eyes get hurt again.
and then you can press “ALT” or hold it down whenever you felt masochistic and wanted to hurt your eyes again. You shouldn’t do that in wvw though where it matters how many enemies you see and how early you see them – ths requires the name plates of all players and you can see the pvp badge of your allies. And like someone said somewhere: it is distracting. But alas, we’ll probably get used to it.
you can still see the enemy name plates since there is a different option for them.this one just disables friendly name plates.
Still, holding down alt or ctrl is not a tedious task before fight neither is tapping them in the middle of fight.

I’ve personally have been fortunate enough to never been stalked, but understand the lengths that somebody would go to just to pester, harass, or try to “connect” to somebody.
It is really important to reiterate this point: stalkers are not reasonable human beings. They are absolutely obsessed with their stalking. The other thing is, even if a stalker cannot directly contact or communicate with you, just their presence can be off-putting, often because they have directly caused harm to the victim in the past. Stalkers will go to great lengths to find a way to their victim and it’s entirely possible that they’ll get others to relay information or communicate on their behalf.
I was under the impression that if you are being stalked online, that you should avoid any website that they may be able to track you on. It’s too risky, the “availability” of your presence is too enticing for the stalker. This being said, it’s a great sadness that you would have to give up something you love because of some horrible low-life.
But here’s the deal: Why can’t A-net change both the victim’s and the uncle’s account names (and char names?) at the same time as banning the stalker’s account? This way, even if the stalker makes a new account, adding the old names to his friends roster will turn up nothing.
It would be great for more privacy features to be added, but I can understand that desgining and coding such things would take time.
based on what OP and you suggest, the stalker is reading this thread already and knows they’re going to play the game again. nothing’s going to change much now eh? even if A.net adds 10k more layers of privacy features.
i think you might be over-exaggerating it and the options to block people or be invisible to others works just fine.
Maybe I missed something but blocking someone puts you as invisible to them. How can they still find you?
Also that staying invisible is obviously the best option cause literally nobody can see when you have been online, it does not update your last online when you play…i’ve known people who have done it for about a year or so…
invisible people can be invited to parties tho, but still no whispers and no info on them.
ITT: omfg i can’t make gold in the exact same way i could’ve done before. i can’t be doing anything wrong, ever. this game is obviously broken, better post on forums and whine about something that have been a part of gem market EVER SINCE THE FREAKING BETA and call the game p2w.
this is clearly an l2p issue.
btw, made 400g in 2days.So troll, you said 200 gold then edited it to 400 gold.
The next time he edits it, it’ll be 600 g.
even if i did do any of it, that’d be realistic based on how fast you can make gold by having more gold in this game =)

-Ele
-Thief
-Warrior
-Guardian
-Ranger
- Engineer
-Mesmer (depending on encounters)
- Necro (still seems to be at the bottom, but might have changed)
zerker Reaper does quite a lot of dmg. it is on par with GS warrior as far as i’ve seen. weaker above 50% of target’s hp, stronger when it goes below 50%
If they simply allowed the chat box and action bar to be unlocked that would be sufficient for me. Even the chat box alone would make a big difference.
you can swap the place of chat-frame with party-frame
the UI is quite nice and simple. also being the very same for everyone is somewhat needed for a proper e-sports game.
i personally think they could just add a little option for showing FPS and ping in the screen, no more needs for pressing f11 to check it anymore.
I’d love to see that in action…as long as they remove initiative cost of thief abilities too.
but why quit playing now? thieves have never been this fun to play…
Also i play full-zerk thief(same build as Ripkord, almost) and necro so…still having a blast with the expansion.
“I was just killed by caltrops, NERF!”
I’ve seen this one somewhere, not sure if Thief forums or Guildchat =)
also: “i’m happy A.Net made sure thieves are on a par with other professions in terms of giving boons and putting conditions on enemies.”
im very frustrated how thief are VERY OP (this is SPVP and sorry mi game is in spanish)
Puñalada=BackstabMy HP 18.952
1hit KO
Question: do you play Warrior by any chance? and do you use Frenzy by any chance?
Good topic. Hopefully non-thief players will read it aswell.
The moderators are really active tho, I must say. Got my topics blocked and removed because apparently it’s a “provoking topic” if you ask A.Net to atleast put a basic knowledge requirements for whoever that is going to post in a profession’s forums.
I use Runes of the Earth, I never die to one-hit wonders like 100b and backstab builds.
You know, a Protection boon won’t stop >30k damage from instagibbing, or nearly instagibbing you. Eating >20k damage is still all, or almost all of the HP pool of any class in the game.
You’re making absurd arguments to try to avoid a nerf to an obviously broken combo. Waste of time.
Would you consider thinking twice about those numbers you put there? I mean, I would be so happy if you could stop nerfing thieves…Pretty please?
You know its f’d up when a thieve don’t even bother stealthing, just runs up and goes toe to toe with a warrior, destroys him then walks away, in pvp. Seen it happen a lot. Pvp matches are getting flooded with theives. Anyway its the current flavor I guess.
HOLY…KOW…
So if a thief goes for a build without invise…he shouldn’t be able to kill others? o.O
Are you sure you’ve had your daily share of pills? You can always ask the nurse for more you know…
Mirtis, I am shaking my head at the fact that you really are trying to defend Backstab with Fire Grab. You do realize they are 45 seconds apart right? Your argument would hold water if you could use Fire Grab repeatedly. So, based on your logic, Backstab should have a 45 second cooldown. I think I’m ok with that. (rolls eyes)
And if you’ve ever played an ele and used Fire Grab, you’ll realize it misses more than it hits. Jez sayin.
EDIT: and just to reiterate, if you miss with Fire Grab, you still wait 45 seconds. No redo.
Backstab doesn’t need any sort of defending really. I’ve mentioned twice i was just pointing out how stupid it was to say it takes more skill to hit with fire grab compared to backstab.
furthermore, if you’re getting hit by backstab, you’re doing it wrong, if you’re getting hit by backstab twice in a row, you should probably try re-enabling gameclient hints, and if it’s more than 2 by any chance…well…i feel sorry for A.Net.
btw, Fire grab misses more than it hits? Maybe there’s a hidden hit rating and hit chance thing in this game…my oh my. 300 frontal cone and you still miss it? then you say it’s easier to do backstab with 160 as range and 3sec limit of being invisible?
So i was just making sure but here’s something interesting about the numbers of Condition removers per profession
Thief: 2Weapon skills – Shadow Return from Infiltrator’s Strike
Heal Skills – Hide in Shadows cures damage-based conditions, Withdraw cures movement-based conditions
Utility skills – Shadow Return from shadow step, Signet of Agility, Roll for Iniative for movement-based conditions.More like six condition removal skills, three of which are general, two of which only cure movement-based conditions, and the last of which only cures damage-based conditions. Plus whatever is available from traits.
Furthermore, the reason elementalists have so many methods of burning is that burning stacks in duration and is meant to be applied repeatedly to build up burning time. The proper response is to blow condition removal when several burning skills have been stacked, instead of immediately following a short-term burn.
My apologies, i forgot about the shadow return. i’ll Edit my post right away.
but about the burning condition, i was just pointing out that it’s absolutely easy to put a burning condition on enemies and click on fire grab than hitting enemies with backstab.
Here’s another reason:
Fire Grab
Damage foes in a cone in front of you. Deal more damage to burning foes.
Damage: 588
Damage vs. Burning: 941
Range: 300
Backstab
Attack your foe from the shadows, striking for double damage if you hit from behind.
Front damage: 403
Back damage: 806
Range: 130
Trait-less/gear-less damage numbers, taken from GW2Wiki.
Are we allowed to storm the elementalist sub-forums and have half of the first page filled with Nerf-bat topics?
It’s just another reminder of the lovely Nerf-smash in WoW where elemental shamans got nerfed ridiculously in patch 2.4 i think just because they would be able to do more DPS, if they tried hard enough, compared to mages(back then they said elemental’s DPS should be atleast 5% below mages or something like that.)
The last thing i remember about that issue was few pages of Topics posted saying “NERF THIS” with one lovely graphical middle finger. so much fun =)
So i was just making sure but here’s something interesting about the numbers of Condition removers per profession(These are meant to be for removing the Burning condition, not immobilize and such)
Thief: 4
Elementalist: 4
Mesmer: 4(1 is a phantasm, 1 is ground-targeted, 1 is mantra lol)
Guardian: 5(or 6, Not sure if ray of judgement can hit self aswell)
Warrior: 3
Ranger: 1(or maybe 3…i have no knowledge about rangers, so i keep my whining mouth shut.)
Necromancer: 4(3 of them are ground-targeted.)
Engineer: 2
Ok…that’s a reasonable amount…But let’s see how many abilities does an elementalist have to put a burning condition on enemy(in total ofc, just the way it was for condition removers)
14 !
and if you consider conjured weapons aswell, it’ll be 18.
sooo…how is it harder to put burning on enemies and click on your ability than going invise, getting behind the enemy in 3seconds and successfully hitting them?
(edited by Mirtis.6847)
“@Mirtis – there are a ridiculous amount of condition removal in this game. You should do a search for them and enjoy the read.”
Thanks, So tell me now, How many stunbreakers do we have in this game? isn’t there way more stunbreakers? so why did they nerf the pistolwhip?
also, just mentioning that, putting a burning condition on a player as an ele is much much easier than doing backstab, how so? Try and see.(not vs stupid enemies whom just bend over when you go invise tho.)
I’m quite confused, why does everyone compare thieves to other classes? it’s not like we can do everything others have AND we do more damage…
Sooo, examples:
-Woho, Warriors can wield greatsowrd, OMG WHY CAN’T WE THIEVES DO THIS.
-OH MYYY, That ranger has a cute pet! OMG WHY CAN’T WE THIEVES DO THIS.
kitten I love how necromancer lichform looks, OMG WHY CAN’T WE THIEVES DO THIS.
-Woah, Guardians can summon weapons, OMG WHY CAN’T WE THIEVES DO THIS.
-Ohuhuh, dem engineer torrets, OMG WHY CAN’T WE THIEVES DO THIS.
-Lawl, Mesmers can turn people into moa, OMG WHY CAN’T WE THIEVES DO THIS. (yes i know we can stun for 1.5sec after casting for 1sec.)
-Woots, These elementalist guys can do lots of kitten at once and swap from defense to offense in a jiffy, OMG WHY CAN’T WE THIEVES DO THIS.
See…This is how stupid your argument is.
Love that Ninja idea. but a shuriken means you can attack from ranged, it’s rather provoking don’t you think?
Their HP.
A thief has the second-lowest amount of HP in the game. If they fail to kill you or escape, they will die. Period.
Not period. You are quite mistaken. In my experience, they just run away and escape. So… all the massive quick strike ability with little risk.
As for the people that say to continue casting and such, a good thief doesn’t run in a straight line. Point invalid.
snip A typical backstab usually crits me for 4-7k, I have been hit by a good ele fire grab for that much so these numbers are not entitled to thief alone. snip
Except that backstab hits each time you are invisible and behind your target.
Fire grab only does that kind of damage if you are burning (which requires more effort to ensure and can be cancelled by condition removal). Further, if you (the target) move, fire grab will likely miss. Regardless, you will be waiting 45 seconds to use it again. Point invalid.
Have you ever tried checking how many condition removers are in the game? Have you also ever tried removing burning condition while fighting a power/condition elementalist?
“Basilisc venom can be annoying, but it’s good as an elite.”
Sorry, i couldn’t read further than this…Oh deary me, My sides huuuuuurrrrrrttttt xDDDDDDDDDDDDDDD
Soooo, You think it’s all cool and balanced if a thief casts for 2 seconds in order to stun you for 1.5 second? Don’t you think you’re being…Like…Very generous to us?
BTW, Ever tried getting hit by “blazing speed” while you’re close to a wall? it nearly 1-hits a glasscannon thief so…
knowledge requirements … and noobs who whant to learn the profession?
moreover if “they” can’t whine here, they’ll do into the general section.
This is a profession sub-forums, No balancing suggestion(eh) should be posted in here. If they want to learn, Fine! Thieves community have shown that they totally support those kind of topics, But what about those flaming topics which don’t even get removed by Moderators? Things like “Hey thieves, Nerfbat is going to hit your BS next, har har har.”
Maybe they should create a sub-forum called Whining kiddo’s lobby or something…Cause most of our time and focus is on answering and proving the obvious to people whom don’t even know the abilities.
As a sidenote: most of the problem might be coming from death recaps, Since it says how much damage you’ve taken from BS for example, most players might just look and think: “Oh i’ve received 15k damage from BS! HORYSHET, OP, NERF!” they don’t even take a second look and check HOW MANY FRIKKING BACKSTABS or even never think how dumb one can be to get hit by multiple backstabs in a row.
and so on…
Would be just lovely if A.Net could add some sort of knowledge requirements in order to post on a professions forums or maybe even you gotta have that specific profession in order to post. It will definitely solve lots of stupid whining about professions out of nowhere.
Personally, I’m absolutely sick of reading stupid comments on thieves abilities like BS doing more damage on lower HP or PW stunning or BS not removing stealth blablabla.
If you’re dying, It’s your own kittening fault for not paying attention. Because lots of us do sPvP or tPvP as other professions aswell and we don’t have a single freaking problem with HS or PW or BS(not even before nerfs).
Thanks in advance.
Revealed duration increased to 5 seconds.
This.
So i was wondering, if it’s a bug or the percentage damage increases in traits does not have any effect on condition damage?
i.e. Pistol mastery: +5% damage with pistols, Yet there’s no damage added to the condition damage i deal.
Flanking strike would deal a good damage if it works properly. But dancing dagger is the best against 2 melee since each of them will be hit twice each time. Also i think you kinda have to use spider venom in PvP if you’re using S/D since it has no burst to finish the target unless you can use well-timed invises to interrupt the heal ^.^
Somehow i fail to understand the whole issue about backstab, Except for the invise delay.
Do you guys like…Bend over and wait when you see a thief go invise or wha?
So i’ve tried what you’ve said in your main post Ranja, in a logical and scientifical way.
specced my Thief as 30/30, Asked a friend of mine which weapon set he wants, D/D or S/P. then set the traits and util skills accordingly. then asked him to play the profession. and just sat there and watched him play.
The result could’ve been an amazing award-winning comedy show.
As for your own arguement, you said it’s Beginner friendly cause you’ve tried playing it 10minutes? well…since you sound like a beginner and you’ve played a Whole 1 hour, i guess i should accept what you’re saying.
Partial creen of combat log:
http://4put.ru/pictures/max/415/1275926.jpgEIGHT different major hits and LOTS of small ones. in ONE second, from ONE character. he just teleports to you, and poof, you downed next second. guildmate also said he got 10k Heartseeker from same player
WTF, seriously? global cooldown on skill was disabled without notice? Or this is some fancy script/hack?
>Global coondowl on skill was disabled without notice?
wait what? o.O you didn’t know that Thief skills don’t have any sort of cooldown?

I just wanted to help things elaborate faster, seeing it’s only Thief section of forum being swarmed by other professions and lots’o whining.

So, here’s some help for other professions jumping in here to express their thoughts about those two skills; since, with all due respect, most of you seem to have no idea what they actually do.
Pistol Whip
Pistol-whip your foe, stunning them, then slash repeatedly with your sword.
Damage (9x): 1,026
Stun: ½ s
Range: 130
Heartseeker
Leap and strike your foe. The less health your target has, the more damage you cause.
100%-50%: 336
50%-25%: 504
25%-0%: 672
Combo Finisher: Leap
Range: 450

(edited by Mirtis.6847)
Yeah, I’ve noticed how OP that ability is in PvE and PvP with that stun when I was running that combo. It’s almost equal in damage to the Warrior’s GS #2 ability, but that one doesn’t have a stun so the target can move out. I would expect the stun to be taken out to equalize it or lower the damage.
you’re not Serious right? cause HB does more than twice the damage of PW…
i haven’t read what others have said, but here’s the reason why it isn’t OP:
even if we do Not consider the animation delays, and think of PW as a 1/2sec stun then 2sec of sword swinging, when you do frenzy it’s 1/2sec stun and 1sec of sword swinging, which means if the person uses the dodge roll ONLY once, he/she can get out of your burst.
and that was even without a stunbreaker. Thar.
i’m not really quite sure where that “hits me while invise” comes from, but i think you might get an answer if you check “cloak and dagger” ability.
i believe that would explain things according to your understanding level of game mechanics, which seems considerably low.
Things that we all want: Arenas and Que with friends and spectator mode.

No arena please, Thanks.
Custom servers would be nice tho, hopefully you’ll be adding custom servers with new game modes other than Conquest soon. rite?
