This is getting rediculous. All bunker builds on all classes either need a nerf or all classes need a dps boost. I am currently a pure glass cannon ele. Even with a base power of 3185 + 10 stacks of might + 58% crit damage and 74% crit chance with fury using all my d/d fire and lightning skills with combos + arcane wave I cannot kill a true bunker. They either just keep healing or laugh at me tickling them with their high hp pool. For every action there is a positive or equal reaction. For however much damage a bunker absorbs I should be dishing out just as much if not more because we are a pure glass cannon build.

You borked non-bunker glass canon D/D elementalists. By nerfing RTL and Zephyrs Boon you successfully reduced our mobility and crit. None of the new changes help glass cannon.

How does either of these help?

Frost Aura: Incoming damage is reduced by 10% while under the effects of this aura. Enemies are only able to be chilled by this aura once per second. This affects all frost auras.

You’ve increased my cool down to 40 on frost aura but compensate me with 10% reduction? 10% is jack kitten with 14K hp. With the increased cool down you have reduced my fury proc using Zephyr Boon. Why would a bunker build need a 10% reduction? They are already bunker. Why would a glass cannon build need 10% reduction? They rely on mobility. Who does this benefit?

Flame Aura: In addition to the burning condition, this aura now grants 10 seconds of might each time the player is struck. This aura can activate only once per second. This change affects all flame auras.

As a glass canon with 14k HP incoming damage kills me. Why would I want to get “struck” for might? I rely on mobility to play. You increased my RTL in place of giving me might upon the premise that I stand there and get whacked.

Did you forget that elementalists are one of the hardest classes to play with the steepest learning curve? Is there no compensation for this as a glass cannon? Instead you bork us. At 14k HP I have less mobility and less crit chance. Awsome. Even as a full glass D/D cannon ele I still have less mobility and burst then a thief. Most thieves have perma stealth with the ability to burst damage up to 17k. As a glass cannon ele I have to mash buttons and flip through attunements and don’t even come close to that kind of damage unless I crit multiple times.

Your changes haven’t made other D/D builds viable as claimed it would, Its actually reduced the viability of other D/D builds. Stovepiping into specific builds. Now people are forced to invest 30 points in Arcane. Have you even fixed Arcane precision proc rate or windborne dagger?

Most people are saying your changes don’t even change the bunker build as advertised in the SOTG address. Instead you borked the glass cannon builds most people aren’t even playing. WTF…

I get you want to balance between classes but what about balance within the class?

Yes it’s shady behaviour, but Arenanet would struggle to win any kind of case against him.

I don’t know of a single case in gaming history where a hacker was successfully sued for creating and distributing a third party product to allow them cheat within an online game.

If it could be done, it would have been stopped years ago. This type of thing has been rife in online gaming ever since the beginning.

Has it ever been tried? Or gaming companies just don’t care…

Similarly, using a hack in a game is not illegal either, though it does generally break Terms or Use agreements or End User License Agreements. This means that games developers have to police this type of behaviour themselves.

All MMOs suffer from this type of thing, but the best ones have a robust system in place that finds the hacker quickly and deals with them harshly. It’s likely that Anet does have systems in place to find this kind of thing, but investigating and acting could be taking too much time.

What happens in this case is that some people develop a ‘if you can’t beat them, join them’ kind of attitude and the hacking becomes more widespread, thus causing an even bigger issue for the developer.

SWTOR suffered badly from speedhackers in Huttball. I used to PvP in that game a LOT, and I would see tons of these guys grabbing the ball and flying to the other end. I won and lost many games as a result of this and the problem increased rather than decreased as time went by. BioWare did not deal with it quickly enough. I hope Arenanet do…

Yes it breaks the terms of use but that does not make it ILLEGAL, i.e against the law.

It is often the case that the only way a company can sue for breach of an EULA is if that EULA was signed, physically. Whilst acceptance via mouse click gives a games developer certain powers to police their own game, it does not allow them to sue players for breaching the rules. This may vary from country to country.

In many countries, local law will always supercede these types of agreements anyway.

Agree to disagree, this guy is making profit off of nefarious activity at the expense of a law abiding company. That would hold up in court.

By your logic, one could write up a piece of software to hack a website, sell it to anyone, and it wouldn’t be illegal. Its the responsibility of the owner to protect its data, so lets not call it illegal? That’s what I get from your synopsis.

If they don’t release a patch for it soon, it will most definitely be coming in with the Nov15th Patch.

One of the problems is its always a cat and mouse game with the patches. They patch, the guy releases another hack a day later. ANET really needs to take legal action to stop him from ruining this game like so many were ruined before. So patching doesn’t really solve anything.

Tonight was blatantly obvious in sPvP.

One ele was high jumping around in combat moving extra fast.
Another ele was teleporting multiple times in a row.
Classes other than mesmer and thief were teleporting while in downed state.

Any plans on stopping the hacks? Seriously, can’t NCSOFT/ANET sue the guy who makes these hacks under grounds of terms of agreement violation, illegal modification of code, and or source injection?

Its really getting frustrating, I’ve seen this website/guy hack other MMORPGS since 2008 and no gaming company has ever done anything about it.

Playing from the 808 state looking for casual pvp guild. Makes most sense due to time zone difference either a local guild or a pst guild. My play style is pure glass canon, bunker bores me. Looking for mature audiences, casual but competitive Tpvp or spvp. Not interested in extreme competitive emotional play. I suppose I can transfer servers if needed. Currently play on boralis pass.

A lot of people in this post recommend condition builds. However, I don’t get it? Everytime I play condition, every class has multiple condition removers. Its painful watching my massive condition damage get removed over and over at the snap of a finger. Its also too slow paced. Thats why I say its kitten because with a massive burst build, any good twitch player, can kick major kitten. I constantly get first place in the games I play due to instant kills. I’d rather put my eggs in a burst build, knowing that the only counter is invulnerability skill. Little can be done to negate the massive pain I put on people.

Did a quick fraps. Not pretty but you get the idea of the capable damage. Overshot the ranger on clip 2 haha but made up for it. Engineer was asleep. Burst down the warrior pretty good and did massive damage against the ele in zerg. This build is not an easy build to master. But once you get the hang of it, its fun as hell. Will post better videos tomorrow. THis was a quick put together.

I can instantly chain kill all thieves and elementalists (non-bunker), most engineers, most rangers, some warriors, few necros, few guardians, and few mesmers.

How do you implement this build without getting killed with only 15k hp!?

1. Patiently wait as your teammates engage the zerg first. Then pick out a thief, elementalist, ranger, engineer, warrior, mesmer, necro, guardian to kill (in that order).

Once you have instantly chain killed someone, ride the lightning out of the zerg, heal up, rinse and repeat.

2. The secret to fighting warriors and guardians is to stay out of range.

3. Dodge a lot.

4. Learn when to run away. Fight another day.

5. When killing someone in downed state, to avoid stomp, start kill and then mist form. You will avoid stomp and get the kill.

A little increase to our base HP wouldn’t hurt. Definitely our downed state needs to be fixed.

So, starting from the top: So your glass cannon kills other glass cannons who are too stupid to use stun breakers/dodge roll, this is 5 month old news.

So basically, you acquire the playstyle of your standard glass cannon Thief, except with less escape capability, less annoying mechanics to deal with (stealth in this game is by leaps and bounds more OP than in any other MMO), and at best 1/2 the damage as the same Thief.

Any decent player will instantly swap to a ranged weapon and start ye olde kite.

Dodging is nothing new, except you can simply strafe out of most Elementalist abilities without suffering because the front-loaded damage on most of them is terrible or non-existant; whereas strafing out of a 100 Blades is a good way to take about 5k more damage than you needed to.

I see a recurring theme here…..very similar to a Thief, only they’re better at it….much better.

Nifty trick, used it many a times myself, but as a glass cannon build it’s pretty dumb to blow your single defensive ability on a 75 second cooldown just to guarantee a kill.

I’d sell my soul for even a 3k increase to my base HP. And our downed state is indeed awful. No body is going to take more than 5 seconds to run to your corpse, thus ensuring you never get to use Mist Form because by the time they finish their execution, you still have a 3-4 seconds cooldown on it.

Agreed this is played like a thief. Except I can burs aoe damage and have shorter cool downs on my burst combo. When classes switch to range my ride the Lightning is usually off cool down or I’ve already cast updraft blow out, and run over them with burning speed. There’s ways to adjust.

From the looks of things, the damage you’re doing is in no way making up for the collossal amount of survivability you’re losing.

Practically no condition removal. One stunbreak on a 75s cooldown. No stability. No protection outside of an earth swap.

To be honest, it looks a lot more like a build that relies on getting your team mates to distract the enemy so you can play the opportunist and sweep in to grab the kill. If the burst fails you have only mistform to get back out, which limits you to either engaging once every 75s, or risking yourself for kills when it’s on cooldown.

Anything that shuts down your movement is going to make a real mess of you real fast, likewise if you get jumped by a high burst class. A bunker will probably kill you before you kill him (not that we have much chance at killing bunkers played well anyway, but the modus operandi is to tie them up and force a team mate to come and assist so they can get points from the objective they’re standing on again).

This has all been pretty general criticism though, which I guess doesn’t help much. Here are the exact problems.

Bolt to the Heart – +20% more damage under 25% is the same as +5% damage for the entirety of the fight. A reasonable portion of the time (in my experience anyway) we’re finishing with Fire Grabs or Churning Earths. They don’t benefit from that trait because they already hit like trucks if they hit. Having CE do 8k damage instead of 7k damage when your opponent is under 25% is pointless, because that’s much more HP than most people actually have when they’re under 25%. You want CE/Firegrab to hit hard, but they need to do it all the time, because they’re our main sources of single-hit burst.

Scholar Runes are only good between 100-90% health. Once you drop below that (which you will) you lose 10% damage, and the last thing you want is for your damage to get worse as you drop HP. Same problem with Vital Striking (which is 10%, by the way). So once you drop to 89% HP you lose 20% of your bonus damage. It wouldn’t be as big a problem if you were playing staff, because you have the range to stand-off, but as d/d? Most fights I’m sitting at around 50-70% HP constantly. I’m rarely above 90% for more than the initial few seconds of a fight, so I can’t imagine losing that much bonus damage guaranteed for anything beyond that initial burst. Seems like a bit of a waste.

Sigil of Superior Force isn’t terrible from a ‘damage right now’ point of view, but compared to something like Minor Accuracy, it falls short. 5% more damage on crits isn’t as good as 12% more crits (with max accuracy stacks) most of the time.

The main problem is that you’re a glass cannon, except you’re insanely glass, and the cannon part doesn’t, in any respect, make up for how glassy you are. If your opening combo doesn’t work you’re boned. If you get caught by a thief without mistform you’re boned. If someone is paying attention to you when you initiate, rather than being distracted by a team mate, things aren’t going to go well (assuming they know what they’re doing). It might work in 8v8 where it’s a zergy mess, but you’d get totally tooled in Tourneys.

I agree the scolar rune was a concern for me regarding the 90% health. However the point of the build is to get the first attack and unload. You cannot make any errors with this build or you are boned. I never admitted to this build being easy mod. However, if done properly this build is fun and deadly.

I’ve played bunker and honestly I get bored. The damage output is lackluster and the combat drags out. Just trying to provide an anti bunker alternative. It is extremely glass and maybe the damage output doesn’t equal the squishy factor, but unless we get a damage boost this is the best that can be offered.

This is a glass cannon build. For all those that complain about lack of survivability, Learn to strafe and dodge, kill your opponent before they kill you, and use mist. You are the burst for your team. I’ve never had any success with a condition build. Most people just remove your conditions over and over before it does any serious damage. Power and precision isn’t enough damage to make an impact. It needs to be coupled with %damage.

Everyone complains there is no glass cannon build. This does exactly what it says. I can’t tell you how many times my teammates are struggling to kill a bunker guardian down to half health when I swoop in and instant chain kill it.

I get it. No survivability, no toughness, to squishy, will get owned in pvp, blah,blah,blah. It’s a build that either works for you or doesn’t. Take it or leave it. But it does what it says. Stop complaining that there isn’t a glass cannon build. When I provide one that works people complain it’s to squishy. my screen shot doesn’t lie.

This build brings back the cannon in glass cannon. Bunker guardians and bunker elementalists I can drop to half health. keep in mind this is in 1vs1 situations. In group play its sick the damage I do.

How do you implement this build without getting killed with only 15k hp!?

1. Simple! kill them before they kill you! But use common sense! Patiently wait as your teammates engage the zerg first. Then pick out a thief, elementalist, ranger, engineer, warrior, mesmer, necro, guardian to kill (in that order).
a. thief or elementalist, Ride the lighting in. Use updraft, switch to fire, use burning speed, ring of fire, cast arcane wave+blast which will trigger 2 combos. If thief isn’t dead use fire grab. After grab, thief = dead.
b. ranger, engineer, warrior, repeat same as above except after ride the lightning, hit them with lightning whip, until their health drops to about 70% then updraft and repeat adding drakes breath if necessary.
c. mesmers, necro, guardians, repeat same as above except after ride the lightning, hit them with lightning whip, until their health drops to about 50% then updraft and repeat adding drakes breath.
Once you have instantly chain killed someone, ride the lightning out of the zerg, heal up, rinse and repeat.
If you get stuck in zerg, switch to water or cast shocking aura or mist, to give yourself breathing room to get out.
If you haven’t killed someone after blowing your fire load. Switch to earth or back to air if its up and they should be near death anyways.

2. The secret to fighting warriors and guardians is to stay out of range. Lightning whip has a range of 300. Learn the range because you can hit them, they can’t hit you. Kite until you get their health to about 50% and then unload the above. Fighting necros and mesmers can be tricky. Hit them with lightning whip and then burst them down before they kill you…Its a toss up based on their build.

3. Pay attention to the skills your enemy uses. Dodge a lot. take advantage of renewing stamina. With a crit chance of 49% it will usually always be up.

4. Learn when to run away. Fight another day.

5. When killing someone in downed state, to avoid stomp, start kill and then mist form. You will avoid stomp and get the kill.

Elementalist is not an easy class to play. Steep learning curve, but once you got it you will love it. I do believe their still needs to be better balance. It is true that we work twice as hard as other classes, with the steepest learning curve, just to stay on par. A little increase to our base HP wouldn’t hurt. Definitely our downed state needs to be fixed. Ride the lightning bug needs to be fixed.

Rejoice. I have figured out the secret. After two months of theory crafting and trying every possible sigil, rune, trait, skill, amulets, and weapons set I could think of, I figured out the problem to the lackluster burst DPS our class suffers from. I have a build that brings back the cannon in glass cannon.

A little about me. I am currently spvp rank 25. I’ve attached a screen shot of my scores in the past week or so to prove that playing an elementalist properly can and does work! It just takes a bit of patience, practice, and knowledge of your enemies. My screen shot sucks so BLUF, I have top score in every frame. Some with the most kills.

The problem is stacking power, precision, or condition doesn’t work.

Stacking power and precision = junk. You will blow cooldowns and never generate enough burst to take down an enemy fast enough before they heal back up.

Stacking Condition = junk. Most classes have multiple condition removals at their disposal. We stack on hardcore burn and bleed just to have an enemy remove it.

Hybrid = kitten. Not enough damage, health, toughness, or condition. To spread out. Results in lackluster performance leading to frustration.

Bunker = Works. But gets boring. Little damage output.

Power+Precision+%damage = Glass cannon

However, stacking raw %damage with precision and power will burst down most classes to a quarter health and instantly chain kill thieves and non-bunker elementalists.

I took 20 points in arcana because it gives about a 10sec attunement swap and with Zephyr Boon I can keep fury and swiftness up.

My build is 10/30/0/10/20

10% damage fire (in fire)
10% damage air (in air) + 20% below 25% health
5-10% damage above 90% health (water)(haven’t quite determined the amount on this trait)
10% damage above 90% health (scholar runes)
5% damage sigil of superior force
+3 might sigil of superior battle
+arcane wave + arcane blast
+Beserker Amulet/Jewel

Since the latest patch every 1 out of 3 games or so I get stuck in a loading screen after I die. I can hear the players around me, sound effects, and the music but cant get back to the game. I have to wait for the match to be over before it kicks me to next match. Weird thing is in the next match the announcer is still making announcements about points in the last game. Anyone experience this?

Thanks you are correct tested it on the moving golem and it does proc burning. How about 30% fire field duration. Does that only apply when a combo is initiated?

I’ve tested this multiple times on the Golems in the mist. Doesn’t cause burning as tooltip states. Also I’ve tested persisting flames and does not work with ring of fire. There is no 30% increase in duration. Would ring of fire not be considered a fire field?

This is a major skill for fire elementalists. I can live without the 30% duration, but come on! we are losing major DoT/DPS if it’s not proccing burning as stated.

Sure. I can’t speak for all conjured weapons. However, fire is useful for a burn condition build for someone who doesn’t want to attunment swap out of fire. With fire conjure, one can onload all fire weapon skills, cast fire conjure and hit skill 3,4,5. In spvp if built correctly one can achieve burn damage of 13k over 19s with skill 5. Then swap back to fire attunement and cool downs should be down. Rinse and repeat.

Basically just an option to provide more skills for current attunment without switching out of attunement. Unfortunately it’s not worth the skill slot because most skills except fire 5 suck.

Can you guys give an example of how to use the summoned weapons both in PVE and WvW? my ele is a little under 40 now. I don’t want a rant on underpowered ele kitten fluff. I want some info on how to use these weapons. Surely someone has worked out the skilled to use them.

I picked up the ice bow utility but it seems to be not as useful as my regular skills. I assume im not supposed to keep using it for a full fight or it has some situational use.
The iceblock is very powerful but the damage output doesnt seem to be up to par with the rest of my skills.

I try to solo fight pve content that is at about 5 levels higher than i am when i can and the ice bow just doesnt compare to normal weapons. I also try to pug dungeons when i can.

Just hit rank 16 in spvp. I play spvp between 3am to 7am est due to my schedule. After rank 15 I began noticing a trend. Most classes played to least.

1. Warrior, thief, Mesmer
2. Ranger, guardian, engineer
3. Necromancer
4. Elementalists

In fact I very rarely see anyone playing elementalists. Most of my games are filled with warrior, thiefs, mesmers, and rangers

1560 power 1469 condition damage. It’s more of a hybrid damage build — if you look at burn/bleed damage it may do you well

Burn and bleed is meh, conditions can be removed and the damage healed. Dot in spvp is junk. Burn and bleed doesnt do enough damage fast enough to win against smart players. Burst dps is better. I run a 51/52 crit build with 20k hp and can dominate most classes. Nice video but nothing really exciting. But it does show the power of d/d if played to it’s potential.

Warriors are right about where they should be, as you gain skill as a player the 100 blades builds will become easier to deal with. (they’re still scary lethal, especially if you’re already distracted by another player! But you’ll learn to cope.)

Thief, Mesmer, and Guardian are all a little ahead of the pack. I currently think that this happens in large part because of the Amulet selection options. Thief and Mesmer have illusions/stealth/shadowstep options that allow them to have relatively high survivability while taking Beserkers amulet.

Other classes need to look to their amulets for survivability options, and wind up with a compromised damage source and feel week. The exception is the Guardian, who just does better than any other class at staying alive and providing support to allies, giving them the option of playing alternative roles or – like the mesmers and theives – grabbing a Beserkers Amulet and going to town.

If they would open up the customization options a little more and give us spectator mode I think we would find new ways to use the existing classes and more insight into the balancing issues that persist.

8v8 is zergy garbage.

Seriously, that’s all there is to it. TPvP is all that matters when talking about balance.

Yeah but the difference is night and day between a melee elementalist and a thief or warrior. One class I can spam one button and have no clue what I’m doing vs the other where I bust mykitten with a class I have mastered doing less damage with less survivability.

Thieves and warriors? Well from my (mesmer) perspective I would say other mesmers are a joke and maybee guardians. Warriors are cannonfodder.

Mesmers were my easiest target while playing a thief I spammed heart seeker and cut through them like butter. Although I will admit their bird spell needs to be nerfed. Transmognified time is rediculously op.

well… those mesmers have been really bad then… if you didnt know mesmers are best counter to thiefs atm

Firstly: Go watch some paradigm or AC streams. Follow their ele’s. It’s probably a combination of l2p issues and needing to get your team to work on their cohesion better. If you don’t have a team, that’s also a problem.

Thieves are awesome, yes. HS spam is easy to counter though and leaves the thief dead meat. It’s called dodge. Luckily, every class can do it.

Warriors currently have akitten gimmick in FZ>BR>EP>HB. IF it connects it’s an insta-gib vs most people (engi’s and mesmers can get out of it 100% of the time even if it hits, thieves/rangers can do it if they’re slick). If that gimmick crap doesn’t connect, the warrior has a good 60 seconds before he can set it up again. Luckily there’s an ability called dodge which negates this gimmicky spec entirely and even more luckily every class has access to it for free.

Seriously though, go watch team AC’s ele stream for an hour. He’s unkillable, and nukes down people like mad. Proper attunement switching leaves him capable of tearing teams apart with extreme prejudice. Ele is fully viable, just takes some finesse. Warrior’s are becoming less viable as people discover the dodge key as the gimmick is their ONLY viable spec.

Talking strictly d/d. This is not about l2p but balance. D/d should be putting out same burst damage or nerf thieves. Makes little since that a melee caster does less damage with less survivability.

Neverwho, you are correct anything can be countered. That’s not the point of the post. Balance is an issue. These skills are op and easy mode. As a d/d elementalist I should be able to dish out the same burst damage as a thief or warrior or they should get nerfed.

Elementalists are fine.

Try playing d/d as a melee caster. There’s no way we have the survivability nor the burst to go head to head with other classes. Light armor with less burst damage is kitten. Even specced out with 30/30/0/0/10 we do less damage. It’s. Joke.

I support this thread. No harm done allowing us to use pvp armor skins outside mists. Its a feature I might even pay for if need be.

Allow us to use our spvp armor skin in pve. Working mykitten off to go through the ranks to get awsome looking armor only to store it in a locker or wear red or blue colors in a spvp game. Only time I can actually enjoy it is standing around twiddling my thumbs in the mist… Not advocated for allowing the use of pvp armor in pve just the skin.

Probably something to do with the fact they have mist form…

Mist form used in downed state eats kitten and doest do anything other than delay the inevitable. Wow, I can float away for 3 secs at a snails pace and flop back to the ground waiting to die.

You run either of these builds in spvp? If so how do you survive taking any damage using first build without investment into earth? If using second build how do you produce any damage without fire or air investment for power or crit? Neither seem viable in competitive spvp?

Tried every class and multiple builds, just about even one of them I can develop some “one shot” kill. Well not really one shot but kill them in 2 or 3 seconds.

My favorite is my warrior. I have 2 builds that do this. One is the classic charge / great sword burst (which can do 30k damage in one shot easy).

The next is sword / axe bleed / crit. Charge, axe WW move, then my F1 sword move. Most everything is dead by then.

My warrior has 72% crit and 3300~ power.

Let’s not even go into the thief cheese. we all know about that.

I can do it on my mesmer. Necro, Sometimes on my engineer.

Seriously the PvP in this game is too much of an instant kill / insta gib / one shot fight. There is no balance… no longevity in battle.

Ever seen three engineers drop down 12 turrets? No point in fighting that battle. Or any fight with 2 + theif or 2 + warrior. good luck.

Welp.. that’s it for me. That was quick. Guess I’ll wait for the next PvP game.. maybe it will have battles that last longer than 2 burst moves.

Go play a dagger/dagger elementalist for a challege no 1 shot or 2 to 3 sec kill for supposed Glass cannon…

What’s so good about Dagger/Dagger? I’ve heard people mention it a lot, but i never saw the appeal :/

Wouldn’t say it’s good rather just personal preference. I find it fun to play and faster pace then sittingback lobbing fireballs from hard to reach places in pvp. It’s challenging to say the least because of the micromanagement between all attunments and moving at the same time just to stay alive against other melee. To be on par with other classes using all attunments with points in earth and water is required, which ends up lowering dps and becoming subpar to other classes.

I feel penalized for being melee, when in fact we should be out dpsing range for the risk of being in close combat. Pve is ok but far lacking in pvp compared to other classes in melee combat.
