A good commander will keep in mind the morale of his zerg as much as the next strategic step.
A good commander plans many steps ahead and then adjusts on a dime.
A good commander recognizes when what they are doing isn’t working and changes to make sure that things are successful.
A good commander recognizes that at least 40% of the people following their tag are only capable of following their tag and so leads by example.
A good commander can read the ebb and flow of a battle and adjust accordingly.
A good commander has thick skin. (There are always monday morning quarterbacks)
A good commander is decisive and doesn’t get lost in though (zergs are glued together through momentum)
A good commander has a lot of patience. (There will be very poor players following your icon at times. Accept this and save yourself the need for blood pressure meds.)
A good commander is able to take in information from a load of sources (voice com, team chat, whisper) and process it quickly.
A good commander understand that they can’t help everyone screaming in map chat for help and makes strategic decisions (based on morale, viable targets, etc) without apology.
A good commander doesn’t get pulled into drama and tries to maintain good relations with the other commanders on the server, so that they can work together effectively.Probably others, too.

Here we are killing a bunch of upscaled Kaineng alts after holding off EB at Redwater. GJ to EB BTW, you put a ton of pressure on us with those thieves.
Here we are ninjaing the bay from Kaineng during primetime on reset night. We snuck in behind them while they were fighting EB. Thanks for taking down the outer wall for us EB. Awesome job keeping scouts in the bay, Kaineng. I hear bay gets ninjad all of the time by small groups in T1 during primetime hours.
We end up killing a lot of upscaled Kaineng alts before we getting overrun by enough numbers to freeze our clients.

Just a small reminder who think Maguuma is great. Some Maguuma lover Borlis Pass players double teamed Devona before they transfer to Maguuma while Devona was in 2nd place. Devona lost 2vs1 in that match up and still managed to take down BP. After morale was broken we lost some fair weather players causing a chain reaction of panic that people are leaving. And Maguuma got players from BP and other servers. In the end Devona proved that it has a loyal player base which are staying even if we lose very hard.
When we started in Devona we had an Idea and we still believe in that idea. We are here and we will be here. We born as Devonians, we die as Devonians.

Dragonbrand had lots of guild transfer over to them to cover NA primetime when they were in T5. Had it not been for that they wouldn’t have dominated T5 so much that they overtook two servers in T4 in score the following week. Maguuma dropped down one tier as a result since we came in third. Maguuma needed two weeks to match the domination that Dragonbrand put out on T5.

Hahaha I agree. They need a public test server to make sure thing are right instead of using regular servers as test servers.
How did maguuma fall from T4?
We’ve said it before, but t4 is where things get really rough.
After a long time (1 month?) of coming 2nd in yaks/mag/ebay, we finally pushed ebay to t5 and then won mag/db/yaks. The next week, ebay came with a vengeance for being sent down and made sure we got 3rd.
I know Ebay has lost some guilds (good ones) to mag, but I still think they’re pretty strong. They’ll be a real test for Kaineng.

Considering the number of choke points and gates if 5 target AoE limit is removed it will turn the game into warhammer. Set 5+ ppl to Attack ground AoE the choke point and not many ppl make it alive.
How did maguuma fall from T4?
Does this mean I’m going to get dogpiled by AoD? Seems like I’ve been there before…

Many servers already have this but it is a big issue to keep it private for only server’s players. Is it possible to have forums for each server only accessible by accounts in that server only that you play.
I am busy lately I will be moving from Los Angeles to Turkey and today is my birthday. I will try to log in at night and try to fix the points to keep devona in T5.
Well until free transfers stop and ppl start to root for their servers and match up system settles few weeks after there will be always complaining about zerg fests. Probably around end of February we will see more stable tiers.
Well I am glad they fixed the transfers and I hope they will do the rest as well.
Server hoppers whining… Go find a home and root for it and learn to be loyal.

Well to be honest we were planning to shoot ehmry bay too since we don’t know anything about them and they are coming from T4.

You know what is worse than portal bombing? Invisible portal bombing. That one really hurts
It is really hard to get suppressed if you are not typing same thing. It is good to have somebody repeat your commands if you an arrange that. PPL saying use TS is just guild commanders, to reach new players and ppl who doesn’t want to use TS it is better to use chat. Always keep in mind not everybody will join your squad also it is constant battle people log out log in all the time.
I play a balanced thief it works great. Anything but glass cannon is fine imo. And prefer something you can charge in first without dieing to boost morale and encourage team to push.
Well still It will be fun.
For people who doesn’t know what I am talking about:
Devona’s Rest, Kaineng and Ferguson’s Crossing fought each other in T8 for 10 weeks in a row due to glicko2 system and Devona’s Rest won 9 of those weeks. Most of the weeks score was pretty close and it was a great match up. Kaineng is probably the Devona’s favorite server to fight. Now Kaineng with it’s transfers and People like Chester’s efforts to unite Kaineng together going up to T5 next week. Ehmry Bay is going down from T4. It’s unfortunate Devona lost some population on the way.
This match up will be incredible and fun seeing old friends. Get your tickets now!

Some questions and suggestions about current match-up system:
I have been reading a lot about this issue with match up system for a long time and I would like to share a solution which is less likely hard for Dev Team to fix and I believe they can make most of these changes easily.
1-Game should encourage players to transfer to low populated servers and forbid to transfer high populated servers. Server transfers should be available every 3 months for each account for free and in all other times with a small fee and huge handicap in WvW after transfer for a certain amount of time.
2-Outmanned buff should have priority in Dev teams schedule to reward people playing outmanned and it has to have different levels. Harder you are outmanned better the buff gets.
3-Legendary weapon requirements has to get revised to stop transfers for WvW map completion and badge farming.
4-Jumping puzzle should be removed from WvW and work on its own.
5-There should be a system like guild influence which will work as server influence encouraging players to stay and build it in one server.
6-Guilds should be server only which means if you leave your server you can not be in that servers guild any more.
Extra: Players from different servers can instance(PvE dungeon) together. Which will prevent players from switiching servers to PvE with their friends and will encourage people to transfer only to play WvW together with their friends. This will help preventing certain servers to turn into PvE only servers and stay competitive in WvW.
Glicko2 system will work as intended if all these changes are made I guarantee.
If players are changing servers every week how do you expect glicko2 system to define a servers rating correctly in a weekly match up system. That is the main question should be asked.
Also Dolyaks should have more hit points. It sucks to send people to escort dolyaks because you are giving them an order to get bored to death. It is importent to escort dolyaks but boring as hell and not rewarding. Dolyaks are one of the most valuable resource generators that should be taken more seriously.
Well gate tapping is not a glitch but should be revised for sure. Maybe make it only contest by siege weapons.
What happened to WäR saying that they would like to keep things in good terms with BP and try to focus on DR this week? I see a fair number of WäR in BPBL, and I am torn between wanting to fight them and leaving them alone.
I can’t believe some folks still trying to double team Devona. Play to win. BP is the only server trying to contact and make deals with me personally and only server I had to block so many people. You guys play too much politics instead of fighting.
Devona is mad at BP because last week they double teamed Devona even when we weren’t in first place and killed this match up which could have been great. This double teaming issue caused some bandwagoners to leave Devona but our core players are still here and mad at BP for their politics.
Devona is recovering from its wounds. We will keep fighting no matter what. Loyalty is our second name.
It’s sad still only alt+F4 issue is fixed.

There is no system in the world that’s ever going to compensate for server transfers, or guilds taking a break from wvw, or differences in primetime play hours.
Pretty much this. We use gliko to help make sure the matches end up being somewhat competitive, but no systems can really predict and react immediately to constantly changing populations.
While glicko may not be the greatest thing to use for tiered competition, I think it’s actually worked fairly well to help ensure that a large portion of our matches end up being competitive. We haven’t been seeing nearly as many lopsided blowouts happening as we continue to have more matches being played out and then feeding those results into the formulas. The obvious exception to that being the worlds who either lose or gain large amounts of players in a short period of time and get caught in a matchup where they get dominated or are the dominating force.
However, even with all the issues glicko presents, we have seen that while it takes a few weeks for the system to adjust to the population shifts, it DOES adjust, and eventually those worlds end up playing in competitive games again once they reach a tier that suits their current population.
And yes, we need to get paid server transfers in. We all agree with that statement, and we’re trying to make it happen as soon as we can, while still making sure the guesting system is as useful and easy to use as possible. We’re agonizingly close, so hopefully soon we can stop talking about it and just do it!

I got the idea BP and Maguuma double teamed Devona last week but this week you merge servers and all BP transfered to Maguuma kinda too much imo

I think it was Colin who stated in an earlier interview (during development) that people should never have to leave WvW if they don’t want to. Do you feel that you’ve met this goal so far (or was it a misinterpretation on my part)?
You’re welcome! Things have been really busy around here since we shipped, and that’s a big reason why we haven’t had a chance to communicate nearly as much as we’d like to, so we’re trying to make an effort to change that. We want to talk to you just as much as you want us to tell you stuff
As far as being able to play just in WvW and never have to leave if they don’t want to, that most definitely is our goal, and I think we’ve done a fairly good job at that so far. We do need to make sure ascended gear is obtainable in WvW, but other than that I think we’ve mostly made it so you never have to leave WvW if you just want to play there forever. Feel free to point out why I’m wrong about that
